August 28, 2008 at 5:23 pmI am with chiarunner……I want to know more…..I read the PDF article, and I actually use IT for my runs. I start really slowly with a 1:1 IT ratio, and when I’ve revved up I bump it up over a span of weeks until about a 4:1.
What is the challenge? How do I get me some of that?

August 28, 2008 at 5:27 pmwoo hoo! Metroknow in the house 😉
The challenge? All TA’s.
Lemmie check out her site as well to see if she posted more specifics.
I think it is as simple as 30 days of HIIT.
Stop what yer doing now, hit the HIIT and shock your body into changing.
Miz.

August 28, 2008 at 7:36 pmSure, I’ve done it twice so far, and I like spending less time to feel far worse, so will keep it up.

August 28, 2008 at 8:02 pmI was here a long while ago and wanted to post but ran out of time. I should have said:
S.L.A.P.!!!!
I went to the gym and rode oneathem fancy bikes for 20 minutes (exceeding my 10 minute record, dontchaknow!) And I tried really hard to make it HIIT.
Then after guzzling some — huff puff huff puff — water, I got on the treadmill for 30 minutes and did HIIT on that! Yes I did. And it kicked my arse, but in a great way.
I can’t do it every day. But I will do it as often as I can get to the gym with plenty of time to get’erdun.

August 28, 2008 at 10:32 pmLOVE TA!!! (Wow, that sounded even pervier than I meant it. You know what I mean, girl.) Thanks for the reminder to go and check her out.
And you know how I feel about HIIT. Love to hate it. Or hate to love it. But I sure do it!

August 29, 2008 at 2:53 amYeah I intend to mix in a bit of HIIT, but haven’t yet.
You’re right about TA’s blog it is a fantabulous read, she can make you want to cry one day, and laugh out loud the next.
I think, you and she might be the owners of my two fave blogs right about now!

August 29, 2008 at 3:37 amThanks for the link Miz (and thanks Andrew and Charlotte!)
For those with a lazy link-finger, the deal is thus:
Six weeks of HIIT
The challenge was initially to do 20 mins – 1 hr a week, but pick your own rules – just allocate your preferred time for HIIT every week and stick to it.
If you start out and then decide you want to work harder then try upping your intensity rather than your workout time.

August 29, 2008 at 5:36 amI printed it out and read it as I rocked babies to sleep last night trying not to change the slow rocking routine into HIIT! Gosh, would that put them to sleep even faster?
I am going to try it this weekend! A question of caution though….how do you know if your body is ready to take this intensity? I don’t want to be lying on the country road with a heart attack! Maybe I should take a partner? When I first started out just walking, even one moderate mile caused major huffing and puffing. I have come so far in 4 months, but still worry sometimes. Call me sissy I guess.
MizFit says
August 29, 2008 at 5:40 amshort version, A, iin case you are heading out STAT.
Start slowly.
A walk alternated with what feels like a I COULD TALK OR SING BUT I DON’T WANNNNNA power walk.
Even if that feels *almost* too easy.
Then kick it up slowly to a j-o-g of almostpowerwalking proportions alternated with a run!
Help?
Miz.

August 29, 2008 at 5:54 amHIIT cardio is my thing. I DETEST long endurance runs. I’d rather do a hundred burpees (in HIIT fashion, of course) than run a mile.
Annette says
August 29, 2008 at 6:18 amthanks 😉 Yes, that helps. I will proceed with caution 🙂
