October 27, 2008 at 2:31 amWhat a cool idea! I have a stagnating bulletin board next to my desk but I think I need to re-purpose it. For a while I had a little posty on my laptop with a few motivational words but eventually I started ignoring it. I like the idea of an ever-evolving board that you can constantly add to. What a story it would tell! I’m going to do this… especially as the silly season approaches, I need as many reminders as I can get to STAY ON TRACK.
Natalia Burleson says
October 27, 2008 at 3:39 amWell, as you know I’ve created a motivational wall. I have some boards up and I’ve put my before pictures up and some recent pictures so that I can see the progress I’ve made so far. I bought a pair of jeans in the next smaller size and I have those hanging up on my wall as a reminder that I’m working towards something. I like to look at it. The jeans are there for me to touch. Sometimes I take them off the hanger to look at them and try them on.
There are some cards from people that are cheering me on. It’s just a way to remind myself visually that I am doing this!

October 27, 2008 at 3:44 amAwesome idea, MizFit! I don’t have a vision board, per se. I keep things/sayings that are motivational near my computer, but they tend to not be up on a board where I can constantly see them. They get buried on my desk… So, I think the vision board is a very cool idea – it gets this stuff up there where you can see it.
MizFit says
October 27, 2008 at 3:50 amThis really is something which has changed my life.
not even in the sense that my vision or gratitude is *different* at all but the having a concrete picture of it (or, if youre me, a smattering of words) truly helps keep me consistently (theres that word again) focused both consciously & SUBCONSCIOUSLY.

October 27, 2008 at 5:09 amI started a vision board last January and I know they do work in actualizing your dreams or your goals. It’s like they brainwash you into doing that which you want. For example: I started my process to get certified as a personal trainer in January. I posted on my vision board that on May 1st, 2008 I would be certified and helping others achieve health. I saw this everyday, several times a day. In my awareness thinking, I didn’t put a lot of pressure on the actual date I had posted… I just thought I’d take the test when I was ready. Well, life was getting really busy in the springtime and so I scheduled my exam based on a day that I was able to arrange babysitters and carpools so I could drive two hours away to take it. I passed the test that day, got home and stopped in my tracks when I had glanced at my vision board. I didn’t even realize it at the time, but the day I took my exam and passed the test was May 1st 2008 – and I already had two clients lined up and ready to go. It was then that I realized that YES vision boards really do work!

I like the idea.

MizFit says
October 27, 2008 at 5:18 amliz? So agree. For me I think it was as simple as BEFORE I merely did mission statements which I spent a lot of time CRAFTING but then shoved in a drawer.
The board helps me to (brace yourself….I know.) consistently be sending the same I’M WORKING TOWARD/I’M GRATEFUL FOR messages out into the world.
And Linda? You make a good point about sharing my Vision board.
I didn’t want to show the crammedwithPHOTOS Gratitude board but the Vision I could share.
I’ll do that when I post more about The Law of Attraction.

October 27, 2008 at 5:32 amI don’t have one but I really love the concept! I am afraid I wouldn’t be able to fit all of my stuff on a small board! I have a great place in my room for a board or two. MizFit says
October 27, 2008 at 5:43 amI always ponder that, FBG!
And for some reason even when achieved I leave my goals on the VISION and dont shift them over…now Im going to ponder specifically WHY.
it would NEVER (wink) be that I lead a fearbased life and think if I move em to Gratitude it’s magical thinking and they could vanish?
For me the Gratitude board is more people & experiences.

Now I have a photoshop file I update a lot, and make the image the background on my computer – which if you know me means I see it 98.4123 times a day π

Love the stress on the positive. This is such a good idea! Your boards look great. I need to set some time aside this week and make a board for myself.
I guess in a way I sort of do this in a different fashion- simply by keeping momentos and photos and inspiring books etc in plain view. One thing I have is a collection, of sorts, of maps, which I hang on my walls- it reminds me how much I love to travel and adventure and how big the world is! I also have a quotes book which I like to write down any quotes that I hear (LOVE words).

October 27, 2008 at 6:44 amVery cool. Yes I have something like that in my office- but I hadn’t called it a gratitude board- more like a goal board. Need to rethink it and work on it somemore. All my goals are shifting and not sure where to focus…
Lori says
October 27, 2008 at 6:46 amI’m a big list maker for goals, tedious and humdrum daily stuff, as well as other goals like weight, financial, home improvements.
Maybe I could make them more ‘fun’ with pictures or something.
For me – I love being able to cross things off a list as the goal is reached. Then I can look at it over time and actually see progress those times when I feel like I am spinning my wheels.
MizFit says
October 27, 2008 at 6:50 amyou know, I think I’d started to avoid the lists because I so rarely checked off (the biggies I mean…achieve fiscal responsibility type things) so I switched to the Vision board.

October 27, 2008 at 6:50 amLove the positivity! I think it is so important to remember to be grateful. I don’t have a board but I do keep a gratitude journal that I write in every day. I’m also a total goal-setter but I just type them into my computer and don’t look at them every day. I think I’m a little afraid of my own potential! Perhaps if I put it in pictorial form on a board it would be less intimidating?? I must try it! I bet my kids wuold love doing this too.

October 27, 2008 at 7:22 amI love this idea. I have been meaning to get my digital photos printed out and make a collage to go on the wall of family and friends as a kind of gratitude board. I’ve been meaning to do this for ages – I WILL do it before the year is out!
I think a vision board would be useful for me as my career and goals are so nebulous, and I often feel unfocussed. I’ve avoided doing it so far I suspect because I’m scared that I have no direction in life. I know this sounds backwards but there’s my hurdle!

October 27, 2008 at 7:23 amThat’s a cool idea… I’ve seen this before, but I really haven’t gotten into it much…
I keep wondering if a vision book might be ok, since honestly, I haven’t got a single inch of spare wall space anywhere in my house that I can see regularly, except maybe in the bathroom, and that would just be a bit weird.
I like to keep notebooks in front of my desk, usually with a quirky cute cover (right now “I have Rules For Swashbuckling: #1, Jump off things and laugh!” and “Cthulu for President, Why Chose the lesser of Two Evils?”) where I keep my to-do lists, shopping lists, recipes, people’s addresses and phone numbers, etc.
Anyway, I’ll think about this idea for a bit… maybe there’s something I can do here. (Flylady wants me to keep a focus book, too… so, you know, when a bunch of my favorite people start recommending the same thing, I really have to see about getting started!)

And TA? Not sure what it says that your comment makes *total* sense to me.
For as daunting as it was to try and capture my Visions on a board (“what if I’ve got nothing??”) it was powerfully crystalizing for me.
Helped me to realize how much focus I had and was entirely unaware of.

October 27, 2008 at 7:55 amI have a 3 subject composition notebook that I write goals & lists in one subject, workout plans and daily menus in another subject, and the details of goals (schools to look at, blog post ideas, ideas for places I want to live – close to lots of parks for the doggy I want, etc).
I also have a “gratitude box”, where I keep letters from loved ones, pieces of fabric, pictures, and an index card with dates and notes.

October 27, 2008 at 8:09 amLooooove it! I realized that I kinda do this with a side of my fridge- lots of quotes and a few pictures that I have been moved by are stuck here and there. I am in the kitchen all the time, so find myself re-reading them all. But I like the idea of making a board and having it have that sole purpose.
I also have an art journal that has turned into a visual/written epiphany spot for me. It feels more private for sure, but has thoughts that I would love my girls to read when they are older etc.

October 27, 2008 at 9:07 amI don’t have a vision board although I thought making one before, but for years, I’ve worked off of written goals with a plan.
This year, I started carrying a moleskin notebook around with me (I put my debit card and id in the back pouch to insure that I carry it with me everywhere). In the back, I write all of my goals for the year with my plan. Every month, I create a chart of my monthly tasks and every week, I write To Do list in-line with my goals. I have accomplished and exceeded most of my goals this year.
I was thinking of adding the vision board idea by pasting pictures into the goal section of my journal. That way, I have it on me all of the time.
What do you think?

I think I would want to either do a vision book (with each page a different area of my life) or at least keep it someplace way out of the main traffic flow…it just seems so private. I understand you not putting them out there for us to peruse! Thanks for the great post!

Recently I decided to clear it off because it was becoming a little overcrouded and I wanted a more clean and collective board of things. I never thought of it as a vision board but I guess that’s what it is. I have all my metals hanging from it(well most of them), race flyers, a list of goals, and pictures that make me challanged and some that make me just LAUGH! October 27, 2008 at 11:14 amEver since you mentioned having a vision board the idea has been rolling around in my mind, like small ocean waves lapping at the shore. I began to notice a trend in the pictures I chose, kind of pointing my feet in the right direction. I realized I am more focused than I first thought. I already feel happier.

My desk is U-shaped, and I like having reminders anywhere I turn. π

I think ‘the secret’ is more about about intangibles than tangibles — more spirit-chu. But I *did* ask for a free couch and got not only a free couch but a beautiful matching chair to go with.
Then I thought I’d test it more by asking for Optimal Health. So I’m doing it!

October 27, 2008 at 5:13 pmMaybe the first thing on my vision board should be a clean desk & washed walls? I wish I was kidding. It sounds like a great idea though!

October 27, 2008 at 6:12 pmI think this is a wonderful idea.
I do it mentally but I think having something tangible would probably work even better.

October 27, 2008 at 10:57 pmWe must be on the same wave length today. I just wrote a post about how I joined 43 Things to help keep track of my goals. I love vision boards and I made a ‘digital’ one that I look at on my website.
I love the Gratitude Board idea – it’s on the to do list.

why do you call your toddler “tornado”? sorry if this info is imbedded in your blog. i’m guessing, because she is a cute troublemaker who likes getting into things??? i love the name though, it reminds me of “boo” from Monsters, Inc. =P

October 28, 2008 at 5:57 amooh, sorry i’m a bit behind miz, but i love it! i’ll work on it π slightly different I just posted all my bib numbers from races (5k, 10miler, half, sprint tri’s) in a corner of my room to remind myself how far I’ve come and that I can really do this (motivtion’s been tough lately as i didn’t get to race at all this summer i felt i had nothing to work for…). anyways, i want a better close up π love things that make you feel positive… i’ll put my brain cap on. that is, when i wake up.

October 28, 2008 at 6:41 amCatching up here, slowly…
I started my Board just a few weeks ago, totally inspired by yours, and I can’t say enough about it. There’s still LOTS of space on mine – it’s on the wall in my office, because that’s where I seem to spend the most time – but every thing on it has a very special meaning.
For me it’s, so far, been about reminding myself of how blessed I am, for those times when I feel cranky/depressed /put upon/frustrated with life. As in, every day. π But there are also some quotes on mine that fall more into the “vision” category – like your “worry is praying for something you don’t want”, for instance, and I have a Bill of Assertive Rights on there that my therapist gave me years ago.
I am going to spend some time thinking today about some other things I could put on in the “vision” category, or maybe I will do a separate board the way you’ve done. I do love the emphasis on everything being something that will inspire a positive reaction, though.
I think it’s an amazing concept and I must now admit to not having read “The Secret”. π I’m always WAY behind the times…but it’s on my “must-read” list, as of today.

October 28, 2008 at 1:19 pmYes, I have a vision board. I actually started using vision boards when I first started a home business back in 2001. But it wasn’t until 2005 when I started my new healthy lifestyle that I use it for that. My current vision board has both personal and business stuff on it. It’s located in my home office so I see it constantly throughout the day.
Kara from MamaSweat says
October 29, 2008 at 6:27 pmthe vision board had been on my to-do list for some time, but two weeks ago I finally started it. First thing that went up was a “mock” cover of the book that is currently being shopped by an agent. The NEXT week my agent says she has a publisher who wants to see the whole manuscript. Coincidence? Maybe, but I have a whole lotto respect for that vision board now. My daughter Kendall drew me a “way to go” mom card: Me, with my book and a trophy with ice cubes in it (don’t know either and didn’t ask)–that’s now up on the vision board, too. Don’t yet know what this publisher thinks of the book… but I think i may just go put their name on the vision board… hey yah! That’s what I’ll do! Anyway, Mizfit, thanks for the inspiration. You definitely helped prod me in doing that (plus all the Olympic medalists that said they used one, too:-)

October 31, 2008 at 2:22 pmI have a sort-of vision board. It’s a bunch of stuff that I keep taping to the bookmark in my day planner- it’s getting pretty hefty. I have several quotes that are inspiring, as well as my “Secret statement” (I am so happy and grateful that I am…). It also has several weight-loss success stories with pictures, that motivate me to keep going, and that help me to believe I really can be more fit (this includes a picture of Kelly Ripa- from a recent Shape magazine- with superstar abs- with my face pasted on).
I also have a separate page of just quotes, and another whole page of things that I want in my life (more Secret stuff). I checked my Secret page recently, and realized that 2 things have already come to pass, so I checked them off!
I am visually stimulated, so it really helps to have those reminders there all the time.
