Stuck for a comment? Go here, read her blog post, think of a way she (and the WHOLE Bumbling Band) can refind their motivation this weekend and share that.
Seriously.
We can all use some inspiring in these EARLY DARK & GETTING COLD days.
**coming soon? TwitterGives. I shall twitter a question & the first emailed response I receive is the winner. Im nothing if not one to deliberately & consistently distract your from your work day. That’s the way I roll, People. You can thank me later.

November 7, 2008 at 5:01 amI love how, in my mind, the Toddler Tornado allowed me to slumber late this morning & I got up, grabbed my carry on and dashed to the airport like the Mama-On-Vaycay I am soon to be.
no such luck π
thank goodness for my coffee (cooled with coffeecubes & sipped through a straw quickfast so as not to make my teeth yeller).

I live heart healthy by really limiting salt in my diet. I believe that any dish that can be seasoned with salt can taste just as good or better if you replace the salt with some kind of spice. This, of course, from the non-cook:) (sometimes I like to pretend I know what I’m talking about).
Can’t wait to hear how it all goes!!

November 7, 2008 at 5:25 amI (try) to live heart healythy by avoiding foods with HFCS, enriched and partially (or totally:) hydrogenated oils. You’d be amazed at how good you have to eat when you cut them out!
I walk…but, will probably have to start doing workout videos soon…it just is dark too darn soon now!
Have a great time in Chi-town π

November 7, 2008 at 5:26 amtrue story:
last friday night we ate a lot of sugar up in herre (if by WE you TOTALLY mean *me* as the Ren Man was working late and I did ration the Tornado’s intake).
last friday was Halloween.
this monday? I backed up the candy and threw in the car and when we hit McD’s drive through for some milk/apples I HANDED IT ALL OVER TO THE CASHIER.
when I drove through again yesterday (milk again. dont ask) she said they now call me the CANDY LADY.

November 7, 2008 at 5:45 amDear Candy Lady,
I’ve recently been doing more short bursts of intense cardio rather than long steady state runs and rides on the bike. It’s made a huge difference in my fitness, and so hopefully, my heart is in better shape as well.
I also enjoy plenty of healthy fats as I love nut butters and eat some everyday. Oh, I must add that although it’s low in fat, I am loving the PB2 I recently ordered. I fix a little bowl of it every morning. Dip spoon in PB2…dip spoon in oats…stick in mouth. Heavenly!
Have a wonderful time in Chicago. Stay warms and learn lots. Can’t wait to hear about your trip.
Natalia Burleson says
November 7, 2008 at 5:45 amThat’s a cool idea giving your candy away!
I have rediscovered my love of swimming. And I’ve noticed that I’m a little less buoyant since I’ve lost weight! Though I still have to be careful due to opposing flotation devices! LOL (think boobs and belly)!!
I’m not eating fast food as much. Like once a month or once every 6 weeks. Sounds good then after I eat it, I think what the heck, and I have a stomachache!
Trying to get more sleep!
Have a great trip!

November 7, 2008 at 5:55 amI walk most mornings with the dogs, even in the dark. Will do that this evening since my morning-walk-mojo has disappeared. I go to the gym and do circuit training as well as cardio and the best HIIT I can manage at this stage of the game. I read labels. I cut down on fast food. I eat consciously – think before putting on plate and in mouth. It’s like work, but I feel really good these days.
See you in Chi-town.

November 7, 2008 at 6:01 amaww….Miz!!!!! Have a GREAT time π My recipe for heart health is cardio 5 days a week ……..sometimes more, a little olive oil every day, flax via a muffin most days, fish twice a week, oatmeal for breakfast most days, and a couple tsp of Metamucil for a little kick π I am hoping my heart is in much better condition now than it was 6 months ago when I had a diet of cookies, coffee, and my exercise plan was a big fat NADA!
BE safe π

November 7, 2008 at 6:48 amThe steel ground oatmeal for breakfast has been my change from the oversized sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on a hard roll. I really can’t believe I existed on those for many a morning meal.

November 7, 2008 at 7:26 amReading the “secret diet blog” it occured to me how many lives are interwined through your blog. Since we all realize our weight, health, and fitness are really just proxies for our mental health — it really is amazing.
Have fun on the plane.

November 7, 2008 at 7:31 amI love your rhymes.
I love being distracted during the day (dare I say it’s the only think that keeps me from going completely postal?)
I don’t love that for some reason Twitter doesn’t seem to like my BlackBerry. π Or vice versa.
What do I do? Well, I try to do some form of cardio pretty much daily. I do eat oatmeal pretty regularly, and I take a fish oil supplement (enteric coated! Cause I so don’t love the backlash, if you take my meaning.) and I try to avoid bad fats. I eat my almonds and my whole grains…and in fact, I try to eat as cleanly as possible, as consistently as possible.
I try to do a lot. It doesn’t happen every day, and it hasn’t been happening very consistently lately, but I try. π And in the end, I guess that’s what it’s all about…?

Mrs. Jelly Belly says
November 7, 2008 at 8:08 amOn a daily basis I avoid unhealthy fats and eat oatmeal. Lots of oatmeal. Too much oatmeal. I think the Quaker Oats Company puts crack in their Old Fashioned Oats. Despite that, I do what I can to keep the abdominal fat in this old jelly belly to a minimum.
Have a fantastic weekend!!

November 7, 2008 at 8:15 amI workout (running, biking, ellipticizing, stair climbing, weight lifting, stretching) at least 5 days a week, and I eat oatmeal almost EVERY morning! I love oatmeal!!! π I like to mix chocolate protein powder and a little peanut butter in plain quick-cooking oats. YUM!
Also, my cholesterol went down 50 points in two years!!! It was 200 total, and now it’s 150! The only things that I really changed were eating oatmeal and exercising. I’m 26 and at a healthy weight, so I was surprised to have borderline-high cholesterol. Just goes to show that we really can take health into our own hands!
Have fun at the oatmeal party!!!

I try to get enough sleep (with the time change, it ain’t happening. I HATE Standard Time!).

November 7, 2008 at 9:01 amI so want to win the oatmeal package….
Ummm… heart healthy? I try to eat 90% non-packaged food, lots of fruits and vegies, whole grains, fish weekly, flax added to stuff. I work out 4-6 days a week. But one thing that I think is REALLY important for my heart? I try to find happiness and joy in all facets of my life and limit stress.
Have a great trip Miz! (Although I don’t envy you going to Chicago this time of year! Brrr!)

November 7, 2008 at 9:07 amAs you know, I am learning to love me some runtime. I say learning because it hasn’t always been love but it’s getting there. I’m up to 5 1/2 miles now, just shy of my impending 10k and all that cardio’s got to be makin my heart happy. Which is a huge leap from my barely one-mileness from just a year ago. I also love me some oatmeal, I try to eat as clean as possible and except for a little (hopefully planned) treat here and there, I keep free from the bad bad fats.
And maybe a little red red wine.
Have the best time ever on your triptoquakerness! Love the rhymes!

November 7, 2008 at 11:55 amHave a BLAST in Chicago! I hope you run into Oprah. I wish I could meet you at Panera, it’s one of my favorite midwest guilty pleasures. The cookies and danishes are good, so is the black bean soup…I could go on.
I keep my heart healthy by living an active life – my bike is my transportation, I walk my dog, do yoga, and do more intense cardio at the gym. When my knee is better I will run again! I don’t do HFCS, hydrogenated fats, or fast food, and I am always trying to do more whole grains, veggies, and fruits. I’ve been interested in incorporating more raw foods into my diet lately. AND I get 8 hours of sleep a night! Now if I could just stop eating these cookies…

November 7, 2008 at 10:53 pmSheesh! Finally a second to actually watch your vid (instead of staring at empty space on my YouTube-blocked work computer). First, don’t go with the “read more” option- I prefer the scrolling. But of course it’s up to you. Just my $0.02.
About the heart-healthy living, I do a lot of little things that add up to big gains. Of course I try to get in a decent workout several times a week, varying steady-state with high-intensity cardio. I also make sure to stay away from saturated fats, and get healthy mono- and poly-unsaturated (you know, the olive oils and the omega-3’s and 6’s).
I have never ever smoked, and I eat a lot of oatmeal (with flax, like apparently the entire Bumbling Band), and I try to keep my weight within a healthy range.
For proof: I’ve never had high blood pressure, my cholesterol is exemplary, and my resting heart rate has gone down 10 points to 58 (bpm) since I started running regularly (back in May).
Have fun in Chicago!! I so wish I could be there, but of course I’ll be there in spirit. = P
