you so shall adore them.
be smitten. will swoon.
Onward to new things.
A book that I found.
To keep us outta the ground!
Why did I like this?
what NEW does it say?
It tells us to EAT
NOT to take away.
Inside the book’s covers
there’s no PLEASE NOT TO
it’s filled with YESYES
with foods we *should* chew.
Things we should eat
& reasons for why
(This Miz had no clue
hot peppers? she’ll try!)
Before I describe
how you enter to win
lets add some more links
get silly again!
Just a few clicks
Cant remember ’em all.
OK, People, I know you want the deets so here they are:
You can be entered to win the book for the low low price of a comment below.
you may state what food you *wish* were on the list, what food you KNOW is on the list & still refuse to eat, you may state what inscription you’d request should you win, or you may simply say what’s on your mind.
you know how we roll ’round here: mellow, MizFit’y & anotherMwordIseemnottobeabletothinkof.
I shall start us off: if I could win Id ask Dave to inscribe mine with:
To MizFit, a poster child for nothing. please to NOT tell people you’ve read my book. xo xo, DG.
now you.
please to hit us up in the comments. winner will be announced monday.
UPDATE : Dave so loves the Bumbling Band he has decided to give away five books!
hmm.
all of the foods i thought of (honey, chocolate, pomegranates, even persimmons!) are on the list.
i’m trying to think of one … i guess i don’t see wine on there. although, seriously, i could do without it.
oh and cheese!
Hi MF! How are you? Love the Friday rhymes! It must take you forever to put that together! Thanks for the kind comments about the Frankster the other day! He is finally feeling better! I’m so glad you <3 the wrinkles too!
alas, Erica, I write farfarFAR faster in rhyme—no idea what that says…
I must be careful. Back in the eighties I joked about lobbying to have chocolate declared a health food.
My inscription would read:
To sarahbb. Take this with you everywhere you go for quick proof that chicken nuggets and big macs are not foods that could save your life. No, really. DG
Wine is not on the list? Truly? Because sometimes my husband puts a glass in my hand just to save lives!
TGIF!
I do think wine IS but, shocker, Im rolling with the Toddler and on the handheld and away from my bookshelf.
Ill look.
is it just me or are YOU ALL dragging
asstoday?errr, I mean are you all GOODTIRED?
Miz – I can rhyme pretty fast as well – for some reason it just rolls for me.
I must confess to not discovering “the list” above. I did watch the Doc. stand there and toss the apple for a while. That was clever.
Since I didn’t see the list, I shall hazard a guess that turtle sundaes made with frozen custard are not on it. And I don’t eat bananas because I appear to be allergic to them.
Word spy is coo – I love me some words!
Make it a great day.
I look forward to your rhymes as well. that should be your second career or can you mix that in with the fitness?
that would make for a fun training session!!
and the facebook gifts link? is that a hint?
LOL@ evan as that was what I was going to ask.
about the gifts.
we need a holiday wish list then.
on my list is that book. PICK ME!!!
What a fun book! And the list is foods that are *good*, not weird.
I’ll pass on the milk (but I’ll do yogurt and cheese). And I definitely want to try those turtle treats. Did you see the pumpkin soup recipe?
Lots of stuff to explore!
you may state what food you *wish* were on the list:
Chili’s Chocolate Molten Lava Cake
Girl can dream can’t she?
Not enough time to watch the vid this early, but I just betcha that all of my “staple” foods are on the list: broccoli, spinach, pumpkin, tuna, eggs, cashews, bananas, etcetera etcetera.
I’ll pass on the dairy; this bod definitely does better without it.
nah, no gifthintage up in herre.
I’m not a subtle one. I’d have added a complete wish list to my poem.
And the video @ the site? I was more linking the site, D’Mamma.
In fact I was so caught up in the book I forgot there was a video (I can’t lie to you, People).
Your staples are *my* staples except for pumpkin.
Judging by your strength & stamina I need to add it in.
For some reason today’s rhyme reminded me of Dr Seuss. I need to find all my old Dr Seuss books. Can’t wait to read those to the twins!
Anyways, that book looks AWESOME.
Petition to put popcorn on the list- you in, MizFit?
I can’t wait to tell my dad about the word “returnment” 😀 And I LOVE the idea of the Tip of My Tongue site. That is so what I need.
I know what’s going on my Christmas wish list now, too- S’mores maker! This could be so dangerous but so wonderful at the same time (damn, graham crackers and marshmallows should totally also be on that list…).
Heheheh to the Chili’s Molten Chocolate Cake comment – I so agree!!! Have a great weekend Carla 🙂
i lost my comment.
cant think of it.
it is on the tip of my tongue.
LOL.
I am in to win the book!!!
sagan?
when Im not running out I have a story for you about me, my thumbs and dr seuss’ literary agent.
I am definitely buying that smores thing as well.
it is never cold enough for fires around here!
It is definitely cold enough for fires around here. Well, it was yesterday. It warmed up again today. Hovering around freezing. Yahoo!
Here’s my inscription: “To Deborah, an old lady that wants to get a whole lot older.”
Hmmm….is cookie dough on the list? Some say eating “raw” foods is good for you…..RIGHT?!!!
ummm, i couldn’t find the list on the website? is it just me? maybe it was my staying up absentmindedly until 2am 🙁 wide awake. gotta stop exercising at night…
had to smile for the smores 🙂 i used to toast marshmallows in the toaster oven (they’d get toasty), then squish them in the smore and put em back in to make the chocolat egoey…
This is such a great book! One of my friends has it, and I was looking through hers the other night. She made one of the recipes in it for my husband and me, and it was amazing! I would love a copy of my own!
alas the entire list? In the book.
We shall force, errr, encourage the winner to share.
Here’s to raw eating 😉
Brussell sprouts. Hate.
Thank God it’s a friday around here.
you’re like eminem – such a phat rhymer. I love this:
Why did I like this?
what NEW does it say?
It tells us to EAT
NOT to take away.
Dave is so great and I love his book, too. No need to enter me – I have a copy. But have a wonderful weekend!
Wait a minute…peanut butter and pizza aren’t going to save my life? Sheesh.
Seriously, some of my faves (cranberries, yogurt, apples, almonds, avocados) are on the list and I’m feeling good about that.
Wish these could be on the “do eat” list: french fries and brownies…
probably on the list but I don’t eat it would be any meat products other than fish…
and I wish I could eat tuna but I can’t find reasonably priced US canned tuna anywhere…
Happy Friday Miz!
peeking in.
Eminem? High praise indeed. Love him or loathe him he is TALENTED.
I’d also take Jack Prelutsky, Ludacris, or Shel Silverstein.
Just sayin’ 😉
Peanut butter is definitely on my list.
Sure, in moderation (with almond, cashew and sunflower seed butter!) but for sure.
And the tuna?!
I KNOW.
We’ve established I eat a can a day (I know. I know. Not great) and it’s like 4.00+ (the family sized. Miz eats for the entire family ;)).
Is Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food on there? Probably not (sigh).
And I’ll probably drag BK to borders to get that book this weekend (poor impulse control on the book front), so if I win, give it to a Canadian (as they’re not eligible for half of these givaways).
I love wordspy. Lovelovelove. Oh wait, we’re supposed to be talking about food. I love chili peppers – enjoy your experimenting! My new fave health food is local honey.
Love your poems, I really don’t know how you do it!
I love the idea of a book filled with YES foods.
Celery is one vegetable I just can’t like, so I’m hoping that’s not in there. If it is, I still ain’t eating it.
really crabby?? not even if it’s married with the aforementioned ‘butters?!
Coffee is on the list?? Sweet!!! I’m all over that LOL!
Olives are on the list and one will never pass my lips. I can’t even eat a piece of lettuce that had an olive sitting on it, makes my throat lock up.
Please, please say that sugar and pie crust are good for me and make me live longer? How about the hot chocolate I’m currently cuddling up to? I should get this book for my sister who adores all things good and natural and ADORES telling me how my diet pepsi is going to make me grow a third eyeball.
And huge congrats, Heather McD! Sooooo jealous!
Your rhymes always crack me up. i don’t know how you come up with them….. Love it!
AMEN SISTER. Ive never eaten one. never will. it’s how I roll (if by ‘how I roll’ you mean Im a child—-which I do).
i love the rhymes!!! Congrats HeatherMcD!!!
i will be delving into the info on the book hoping, hoping to find that Peanut Butter Cups are on there.
i mean..its protein..right?
🙂
Hot peppers are only health food if they don’t make you sick for months when you eat them (me + spicy = bad news).
But I’ll guess there’s a lot of fruits and vegetables. YUM.
And I’ll take salmon, tilapia, chicken, turkey, peanut butter and bison for protein.
Off to get caught up at work.
I like the idea of the book. Nothing like a YES to motivate me to eat better.
I am guessing that fresh baked chocolate chip cookies aren’t on the list, nor the dough that they come from. Both make me weak in the knees…
This book is going to be a must read for me! I will definitely pass on the site to others. Thanks!
I hear chili peppers increase your metabolism too… But cool that red peppers fight cancer.
every friday i’m impressed by your mad rhyming skills
i just checked the link out– looks like a great book. i can’t find the complete list on the site (still waking up) but is shrimp on there? i hope so 😀
happy friday!
I bet beans are on the list. I love beans! Such good protein and fiber. And, no matter how nutritionally powerful fish may be, I will never eat any type of animal flesh.
And I would have the inscription read: ‘To Ann, may your life be a banquet of nutrition-packed foods. Fresh fruit and vegetabally yours, Dave.’
If you do find
please keep me in mind
a way I can use
my phat rhyming muse
I do it all day
while the T & I play
it’s just how I am
A live poetry slam.
Excited about chocolate being on the list!
I haven’t tried teff. Maybe I will.
I love FRDAY POEMS!!! You are so talented!
I look forward to your rhymes, Miz and to winning and finding out if my dark chocolate is on the list.
and my cinnabons.
LOL!
if you get the book/win the book PAGE 109. Banana Mocha Swirls.
love em. chock full of coffee goodness.
Ill check with Dave to see if I can type the recipe in…to be sure he doesnt mind.
Liver. I don’t care if it is discovered to be a cure-all for everything. I can not eat it. As a kid I never liked it then when I was pregnant I wanted to try it. Gag. Who can eat that stuff?? Sorry, don’t mean to offend you liver-lovers!
What a fun book! I don’t need one, but I have to say that I refuse to eat carrots. Cooked, raw, seasoned, unseasoned – they are G-R-O-S-S.
(In all fairness though, I only think that because that was ALL I ate one summer. I got thin, but I sure had a funny-looking “tan!” HA! But, yeah. I’ve not been able to look at them since.)
Liver IS awful unless you go to a really fancy restaurant and pay top whack for it. Then it’s amazing.
Personally I KNOW there will be oily fish (sardines, mackerel) on there. I want to like it, really I do, but I can only eat mackerel in pate or risotto, neither of which are particularly healthy. Anyone got any ideas for making good-oil-fish exciting?
In fact we should make it a challenge to make our Yuck foods into Yum. Where there is a good cook and good fresh produce (and maybe a will) here has to be a way.
TA x
I’m so jealous of the headset winner, but the book could be cool too.
Tequila is a food? Who knew?
Eggs can save your life – if your radiator has sprung a leak in your car, crack an egg into it and it will seal the leak. It’s only a temporary measure, but if it happens in a place like the desert, it could make all the difference between life and death!
I daresay you could use a long strip of beef jerky for a fanbelt too…
anything can be solved if you just apply a few strips of beef jerky…
And there’s your yuck to yum, TA!
Wrap in jerky (or slather with the ‘stuff from oreo double stuffs) and all things are yum.
Right? 😉
woooo i would love to read that book!
CHEEEEEEEEESE!!! I mean, I can’t live without it. Can. Not. Hmmm…. I feel like goat cheese now.
Dude, anything that doesn’t mention beer is sheer blasphemy to me.
I hope you are doing awesome Miz!
ATTENTION:
I need to be at computer to change post but Dave Grotto emailed me and said he will donate 5 books now.
How generous is he?! He adoreth the Band. What’s not to love??
I won’t eat Bluberries, but I should. I wish that Bleu Cheese was on the list.
I will donate books too but they won’t be Dave Grotto’s book. Is that okay?
As long as the ingredients for PIZZA are there, I’m good. I was glad to see chocolate on the Resources PDF I found on the web site. (Go to the first link Miz put in the rhyme, then click the “References/Resources (pdf)” link at the very bottom, next to the pumpkin. Direct link is: http://101foodsthatcouldsaveyourlife.answerstv.com/AnswersTV/Media/Files/101_Foods_References.pdf)
I, too, love your rhymes, Miz. (And I always found poetry writing easier than fiction…I’ve got a total mental block for fiction.) Have you thought of making a kids’ fitness book, in rhyme?
I need this book. for the list and for the recipes.
and of course Dave loves us!!
sure POD. Unless they contain inappropriate subject matter and in that case please to ship them directly to me.
Pubsgal? I HAVENT!
I have a collection of kids rhymes on development (any agent out there want a collection of GIGGLE & GROW rhymes addressing such riveting subject matter as the transition to underpants and giving up a paci? Im your MizFit) but nothing on fitness.
hmmmm.
and THANK YOU.
I would like the book to be inscribed: Dear Liz, please share this book with you hubs as proof that these are foods he should eat, xoxo DG
Donuts, are donuts on the list?? Inscribe as below: Christy, no donuts are not on the list, xoxo DG
Hee! 🙂
Wish on list: cheese(cake) A girl CAN wish.
Won’t eat fish. That’s on the list isn’t it?
Inscription: To a jack of all trades, master of none…
May you master weight-loss with One Hundred and One!
Well you said silly so here’s some silly for you. For some unknown reason this came to mind so I went with it.
My Dr. Suess rework I thought up:
I am Dave
Dave I am
That Dave I am!
That Dave I am!
I do not like that Dave I am!
Do you like green leaves and clams?
I do not like them, Dave I am.
I do not like green leaves and clams.
Would you like them here or there?
I would not like them here or there.
I would not like them anywhere.
I do not like green leaves and clams.
I do not like them, Dave I am.
Would you like them in a salad?
Would you like them with a mallet?
I do not like them in a salad.
I do not like them with a mallet.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green leaves and clams.
I do not like them Dave I am.
….
So there you have it Dawn’s very bad take on Dr. Suess. I would like to note that I’m sure I would like Dave very much so no offense Dave *grin*.
For the first time in awhile, I don’t have time to read all the comments above before writing myself. Nooooo! I will come back tomorrow morning as I sip my morning tea. (Is tea on the list? Black? Green? If not, I’ll have coffee, thankyou!)
Seriously, I love books that make me excited about eating healthy food. If I don’t win this, I’ll buy it.
Food I wish could be on the list: whole milk dairy products like cheese and ice cream. I am still waiting for the study that reassures me they are healthier than the skim.
“Veggies = Happy” I know there in there and that would also make a good inscription =).
“Krystal- “Veggies = Happy” Now, you can understand why, and find good reasons to eat more of them.”
Honestly just his sig would be good form me….Unless he has any words of wisdom that aren’t already in the book.
He could write…,
….,
hum,…“anotherInscriptionIseemnottobeabletothinkof”
Another side note from yesterdays post. Today I was not only thankful for my hot shower, but the shampoo. Might sound weird but it smells great and does a good job, and I’m grateful to have it =) Krystal
Ooh, I hope figs are on the list! Then he could inscribe my book: “To Fig, a life-saving food herself” or something like that.
DAWN? I love it. (I think I said we are getting new tats up in herre for hanukkah. from Seuss’ Sleep Book)
tfh? Im with you on the full fat versus skim thing. I shall put that on my vision board 🙂
fitness surfer? I had no idea until now what your real name was! Im liking this give more & more…
and lainie? you are SO HEALTHY. especially dipped in chocolate and chilled for a few hours.
and did you see GenerousDave has a blog? CLICK HERE.
I think that LARABARS should be on the list 😀 Or how about some FRESH, MEDJOOL DATES???
Maybe it will tell me why I could not eat enough healthy stuff my first pregnancy and why now I little interest in healthy food! Perhaps that is why my little baby needs more iron now…
On a tangent — I had no idea all the rules about iron intake…who knew you should not have dairy with iron for maximum absorption —
Dana
As long as chocolate is on the list (and I know it is) I’m good!
I think it’s a much better approach to tell people what they should eat instead of listing all of the things they shouldn’t eat. I hope whole grain pasta and rice are on there, because although I was able to cut out white rice and white pasta from my menu, I can’t get rid of them all together.
Oooh, I think I need a handful of tart cherries after the lack of sleep I’ve been NOT enjoying!
So love your poetry. And a kids’ book you are working on?! Awesome. I hope it gets published sooner than later.
I wish chocolate chip cookie dough were on the list.
I won’t eat celery either (raw, anyway…if it’s in chicken salad I will live with it). And not sure if pickles are on the list, but I hate them with a passion. Can’t even have a pickle spear on my plate or near my food. Blech.
Have a super weekend!
I stil cannot decide if I like the fact I can send people gifts just from knowing them on facebook or if it opens up a whole nother realm where I feel as though I should send gifts?!
and that mobile shopping link could be bad for me 🙂
I KNOW that my favorite food (cheesecake factory cheese cake) is on that list 🙂
What, Miz, you live in Austin and you don’t eat Hot Peppers? I don’t believe… I love the sound of this book–sounds like my thing. I rarely deny myself anything, but can love a roasted beet as much as a chocolate covered almond. Weird, I know.
to me the most interesting thing about food is (are?) people’s individual tastes.
Id do pretty much anything NOT to eat salad dressing (*gag*) or guacamole but love carrots, celery & tunafromthecan.
roasted beets, kara? never.
I wish French fries were on the list. 🙂
now I need to check…are sweeeet tater fries?
I vote for homeade chocolate chip cookies and dirty vodka martinis. I think BOTH have saved my life (okay, perhaps my sanity) at some point or another! =)
And per your comment – yes – I am fortunate enought to get to hang w/The Gazelle, Alisa from Ambitious Aspirations and Sarah from Maximum Heartrate! There is quite the posse of Portland blogger gals. You should come visit one of these days!
i wish… white chocolate macadamia nut cookies were on the list! or what about white chocolate macadamia nut cookie dough?? there’s a bucket in my freezer…
I wish fabulous 1200 cal Chipotle burritos with extra rice were in there! Mmm burrito.
Is Fluffernutter a food choice?
Love your poems, I wish I was as creative as you.
I wish double fudge brownies with moose track ice cream was on the list (((sigh))) but alas that is wishful thinking.
And I wouldn’t touch lima beans with a 10 foot pole. Nope, noway, nohow, lol.
Inscription: Sandy,
I’ll consider brownies in the next book for you. Here’s to wishful thinking, may your dreams come true… one day.
holla to peanut butter and coffee. 2 things i’d die w/out.
but where the f*** is icing? any flavor, just add spoon, please…
Yep, “not take away”… that’s some good advice!
Who would win in a rhyming challenge…. Miz or Rev. Sharpton? My money is on the Miz!!
All the Best,
Andrew R
Wow, that Dave seems like a cool fella!
Love the rhymes! have a great weekend!
Ouch. I can’t do the hot peppers, but still worth a look. I just got the Hungry Girl cookbook today! Yay me!
Did you see the Heavenly Balls advertised? Those look. . . well. . . heavenly! I want to try some of those!
well, you know blueberries have to be in there because of all those antioxidants and whatnot, but i soooooo wish pepperoni pizza was in there. at the top of the list. that would be my dreamworld. i know, i’m sad.
no clue what inscription i would want. give me some time to think about it and ask me again when i win.
I need Coke to be on the good list. It is my one vice…I slipped today and had two:P Bad me:(
Could caramel be on the list?
OK, People, so many thoughts and I cant not share:
together? (alas Im not joking–that sounds tasty and weve already established I HEART my PB2. I mightcould mix that in my coffee!).
yay YOU Sassy Stephanie. Do we need to get Hungry Girl back up in herre for another interview? thoughts?
Laura your final sentence in your comment made me laugh!
and NAP WARDEN?? *one* vice?! please to come here and whip my vicelist into shape.
and YES debby. it could be. IT ISNT (rimshot?) but there was, indeed, a chance 🙂
Miz.
I am about to go to Denny’s for breakfast.
don’t tell Dave or DO. then I may win!!
Hmmmmm. Do we think that barbecued ribs with a side Boston Baked Beans will make the list?
I think not, but I can dream, can’t I?
What a great book – can’t wait to read more about it…
I wish, wish, wish, that pizza was on there, and one thing that doesn’t appeal to me is fish – of any kind. I’ve tried to like it, but it’s the smell, I jsut can’t get over it.
And for the inscription that I’d love…
Dear fabulous Jessica….
When it comes to fitness and being healthy….it’s NEVER to late to be, what you might have been….
So go get ’em you hot mamma –
Regards….
Dave
stopping by to say I would love to win and that I appreciate you Miz!
I so would LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK! I am praying that pumpkin is on the list! I adore Pumpkin! I eat it at least a few times a week, year ’round! Love all my fruits and veggies, but could not live without punkin!
I have been a vegetarian for 19 years, I have lost close to 90 something pounds… since 2001… I am fit and healthy and would never go back to the “way it was before!
Leslie:
Pumpkin is on the list! Congrats on your success!!
would LOVE if gravy was on the list, but i’m certain it’s not…
Would be nice if pizza and friench fries were on that list…
