Last week MrsFatass & I announced our plan to interview the little people around us & see what they had to say.
More precisely how they would define for us (the royal us as my girl definitely grasped her video was going up on MizFit) the words exercise, strong & support.
Without further adult yammerings I give you the Tornado.
Defining the word exercise:
Defining the word strong:
Defining the word support:
At first viewing my thought was good lord I could eat that child’s face off I frickin love her so much uh what?! what on earth can I learn from those clips?
And then I watched the videos again (& again & again).
I learned one can not accurately explain the concept of exercise without launching a series of bodybuilding poses.
I learned she inexplicably relates the word strong with showering & getting clean (?).
(I longed to clarify that while I appears she’s picking her nose on camera she is not. It’s a scratch)
I learned that she thinks of her dad immediately upon hearing the word strong (love).
I learned she still remembered the sign for help & could come up with people outside our tripod family-unit to whom she’d look for support.
I learned although Id not *said* much of the information she parroted back on camera the fact I practice what I (long to but do not) preach means it’s s-l-o-w-l-y sinking in anyway.
I learned it can be really really challenging to get a 4 year old to STOP moving & stay in frame–but when you do the results if not life!altering! were, to this mama, #comedygold.
So that’s me.
- Violating the primary rule of healthy living blogging: making it all about the child (I kid–but we all know more truth is said in jest).
- Merely the first half in this two!part!post!
- And mad with curiosity with regards to whether any of you joined the Mrs. & me in our harebrained, child-filled scheme.
Please to hit us all up in the comments and, should you have jumped into the fray, feel free to link your post!
(Meh, feel free to link away in general. Share your post du jour & tell us why we should read. Let’s git our linking on…)
SOOOOO cute. Okay. I’m moving to TX. And that girl? BRAINS AND BEAUTY. There’s nothing she can’t do.
Okay, I feel like I have to clarify, being that we love ourselves:
By beauty, I mean inside out. Her comfort in her skinsuit is obvious and beautiful.
Disclaimer over.
She is so adorable. I admire your fortitude with the scratch. I would easily allow it in front of real people. But I have yet to settle my compulsion on video. I will though. Scratching is necessary and natural. I pick my nose.
Anyway. Here is the Survival Family Interpretation.
Off to get strong, and sweaty and eat healthy. (exercise)
CURE VIDEOS!
My girl doesn’t talk yet, but we are doing signing too.
The sign for help was adorable.
Those poses are too funny.
Have you brought the Tornado to a show?!
Or did she make them up?
You are an amazing mom.
This makes me wish I were a mom.
I can’t wait.
Gosh, the child is growing like a weed! I must come back down there before she’s elected governor. 🙂
That tank top is so cute on her.
The poses are priceless, Miz.
Kids just know how to boil it down to “simple” don’t they? I will admit the strong connection with showering and cleaning up did make me wonder if your Tornado had ever exercised with Mr. Helen. Because when he gets done with a karate class, a Muay Thai class, and a Brazilian Jui Jitsu class, he looks and smells strong.
Tornado has it going on…I did my post too! A lot of similar thoughts…I’m coining a new phrase from this lesson of yours and the Mrs….
Mindful and Intuitive Exercise….Check my out…

From your videos I’ve learned that the Tornado is a sponge soaking up every word and action that her parents say and do consistently. And that you should shower after you workout. I think. 😉
Thanks for the lessons and for encouraging me to participate. I’m glad I did. Here’s the link to my post:

She’s too cute! I think I know her train of thought on that strong = showering thing. As my grandfather always said: You’re strong–but odor isn’t everything. Har dee har har.
I particularly love the definition of “support” – I think that this is one place that we lose ground as we get older – asking for support. Children do it so organically – they recognize their limitations and reach out for assistance. If only we could get back in touch with that sense of needing others.
Did my comment not post?!?
I am just starting to think about having a child.
I love this!
This is awesome! I cracked up at her definition of Daddy strong!! Looks like he might not need any support cuz he can do everything all by himself! LOL!!!! She ROCKS! You can SEE how well loved she is 🙂
Yep. She’s a doll. The arms behind the back pose (which she only did after turning to face a reflective surface) was freaking awesome!
Here’s my little Brady talking exercise:

All. By. Him. Self.
I had forgotten how focused the littles are on that!!
Oh BTW love the shirt!
She’s amazing. Loved her answers, as well as the bodybuilding poses. I forgot to do this with my 9 year old, and she’s ditched me to go to work with her daddy today. I may have to do it later anyway to see what she comes up with.
If it’s a rule that you can’t write an entire healthy living post about a child the a) I’m in trouble and b) that rules needs to be scrapped. Tornado is adorable, succinct, thought-provoking and already has a great presence on camera (just like her mama!). I think her def. of strong was my fave:)
I love the immediate need to act out the body building poses! Adorable…
love today’s post!
That’s right. I can do everything ALL BY MYSELF!
sure, if ALL BY YOURSELF you mean everyone needs MamaMiz’ help up in herre—which we do, right?
careful. classic.
BUT….
I think it proves something that is washed-over (seen Jennifer Aniston’s recent comments) that fathers ARE important.
What a little starlet. All shiny from the inside.
how many sets and reps should I do to get strong like that?
🙂
Fun post.
Miz – that child of yours is UNBELIEVABLE. I just can’t even stand it! You must just be laughing to the point of tears, all day long. THAT said, yesterday I wrote a post about being a “pretty fat girl,” the hierarchy of fatness, and the difference loving yourself can make. I would just love to hear what you MizFit readers have got to say about it. (and thank you Miz for asking me to share. xoxo)

So, SO cute and smart. This was great!
LOVE TORNADO!
Seriously, she is just as charismatic as her mommy.
So cute that she said her daddy was strong and that he can do things ALL BY HIMSELF. Interesting that when we are young, “all by yourself” is what you want, but as you get older you start relying on that “support” she talked about.
🙂
You make me want to be a better mom.
I did not join in (I am not a blogger but almost did on facebook) because I am afraid to ask my kids what they think.
I am afraid of exactly what you said you celebrated that they would repeat what they hear me say.
Jess
She’s so cute. I love the poses 🙂
My “I don’t have my own children” version is at http://itallchanges.com/2010/08/13/kids-say-the-darndest-things/
Love the posing!
Too cute. Seriously. Kids know way more than we give them credit for.
I would have given the same answer for strong at her age. Actually, I’d probably still give the same answer, shower, dad and everything!
A big smile is on my face! Loved this!!!!
Gosh she’s adorable and obviously comfortable in front of the camera. She always reminds me of my 5-year old but he is slow to warm up once I turn the camera on. It’s hard to capture his vivacious personality on tape.
I did this with my two oldest boys over on my blog. I liked that they both think they are strong. They first said someone strong could maybe pick up a car but then said they were strong because they could pick up a chair. 🙂

My girls and I watched these which sparked Mya to go on and on about being strong and healthy. And then we made a green smoothie. You are doing good things with that girl!
What a doll! I love her answers. She is lovely Miz. You do good work.
Impressed that you did not eat her up, she’s the cutest thing since sliced bread.
Uh, you know what I mean, right?
Miz, Love her, you can see some very wise teaching for a uber awesome mom in there. Once again a fantastic idea and enjoyed being apart of it.

That’s my babe doing her thang. She loved this. A movie star princess is what she felt like.
Oh gosh she is so cute – love the poses, love the sunnies, love how impressed she is by her daddy (and I’m sure her mama, although you know we never get enough credit when they’re young!).
Well, that’s embarrassing. I kept getting an error message so I thought my comment wasn’t posting. Instead I did a triple comment. Oops.
Tornado is such a cutey 🙂 The poses killed me, as did the shower comment!
again a gorgeous post 😀 how eloquent is she?! just shows a child that is spoken to rather than spoken at!
had to laugh as help in american sign lannguage translates rather differently in British sign languge!!
WOW! All I can say is that you must be proud of the positive image that your little munchkin has replicated from her “superhero” mom…which by the way, love that tank! I also love how she showed us her “guns” in her pose and the fact that being strong not only includes eating and exercising, but also taking a shower! Cute cute cute! I’m slightly addicted to you and Mrs Fatass. You guys inspire me ALL the time 🙂 Great job!
What a great idea!! I going to talk to the little people in my life
aww, LOVE it 🙂 my dad can do everything all by himself, too 😉
Okay, I remembered to do this nearly a week late, but I finally got my post up! I asked three of my younger kids (but not the baby), and the results were definitely mixed.
