Oh people, you know I love me some acronyms.Β
Sure, I could give you the boring 1.2.3.4 list, but it’s simply not the way I roll.
My four tips for fighting the frazzle are contained in the acronym E.A.T.S.
E.A.T.S. is the way I mitigate my holiday stress & an easy way for us all to remember— even in the stress of the holiday moment—-four key strategies for success.
I know the vlog is a long one.
Watch it now.
Bookmark it for later.
Pop in yer earbuds and listen when the boss’ back is turned.
Do whatcha gotta do, but take 4 minutes and 35 seconds for yourself as I promise it will pay off in the weeks to come.
This post is brought to you by the fit-mindedΒ Peeps at Sears Fit Club.
A group whom this misfit is now confident shall be E.A.T.S.’ing their way through the holiday season.

The arms. Oh lord your arms π Do you share how to get those? π

November 15, 2010 at 4:17 amHi Miz,
I love what you say about planning ahead for triggers. Holidays are hard for me because my mom tends to do the backhanded complements and they trigger me to overeat.

November 15, 2010 at 5:37 amCarla, really an ah ha! moment when you spoke about the concept of each day being a new one.
I tend to get off track one day and then it is months before I get back on.

November 15, 2010 at 5:46 amGreat acronym! Such a good reminder about Each new day – and of course I love the tire-slashing analogy, lol!
P.S. I worked all afternoon yesterday and then had to stay for a one-time mandatory work meeting. They brought in dinner – chicken fingers, biscuits, gravy, cookies. I brought an apple – had that plus peeled the coating off of one chicken finger and ate that. Was just enough to get me through the meeting until I could go home and have something a bit on the healthier side…I practiced Set yourself up for success without realizing it!

November 15, 2010 at 5:51 amI won’t lie, I’m a little freaked out over the upcoming holiday stuff. This will be my first time around conscious and active in my behavior / choices / movements.
I need this acronym like you wouldn’t believe!

November 15, 2010 at 6:00 amGreat tip about making on the calendar all the party-days.
It feels like there is no chance for me to stay on track this holiday season.
I am going to mark and I’ll report back π

November 15, 2010 at 6:34 amI agree wholeheartedly with planning ahead.

November 15, 2010 at 6:36 am“A” caught my attention… that by putting ourselves first, we won’t resent the “otherness” later. We will already have cared for ourself… that really stuck out to me. And totally made sense to me.
I can see that I do that… I still have things that I need to do for MY health, but get interrupted and then resent the interruption. Hmmm… gonna think of how to implement this one, for sure!

November 15, 2010 at 6:37 amI agree with Joanna.
I’m just beginning to do video and wondered how many ‘takes’ it is for you to get the video you publish?
Miz says
November 15, 2010 at 7:16 amwell, Im not sure it is a good thing π but Im the ONE TAKE WONDER.
I plan what Im going to say.
99% of the time I even write it all out so it’s solidified in my brain in a clear and coherent manner.
And then I shoot.

November 15, 2010 at 6:39 amI need the every day is a new one reminder and plan to steal your mantra of we are never as far from our path as our next choice.
Fab video MizFit.

November 15, 2010 at 6:40 amGreat video! I think taking time for yourself during the holidays is super important- it creates sanity. Even 10 minutes away from the hustle & bustle can work miracles.

November 15, 2010 at 8:13 amLove this! Especially as you are like the most non-plussed person I’ve ever met. I need to make your “E” (every day is a new day) my new mantra. Seriously, I’m going to focus on that phrase during my next meditation. I look to the past so much I’m surprised my head isn’t on backwards.

November 15, 2010 at 8:24 amGreat tips. I especially love the tire analogy. (I am to analogies what you are to acronyms!) And I had not thought about the triggers that are not food related. I am picturing the potential now.

November 15, 2010 at 10:47 amLet me just say that I LOVE this video and every letter and word you spoke is absolutely true true true! But what struck me this time is that every word you spoke is also one of the Weight Watchers’ “Helpful Habits” and I have spoken those same words, day in and out, at my meetings. We are all on the same page!!

November 15, 2010 at 12:26 pmI hear you about the time for yourself. I’ve been crazy busy lately and just taking a few minutes for me keeps me sane (relatively anyways!)…that and realising that I don’t have to do everything everyday. Skipping a day here or there will not completely derail my fitness. It’s just life. π

November 15, 2010 at 1:12 pmLove the video Miz, you snuck some fabulous tips in there that I hadn’t thought of at all. I just somewhat survived my first big holiday of the season yesterday. I think I handled it overall much better than usual, but some things still went out of control. I’m going to see if following some of the stuff in your video makes the rest of the season run even smoother. π

November 15, 2010 at 5:46 pm“EATS” is a cruel, cruel acronym π
My problem with saying “each day is a new one” is that I seem to be continuing to let myself off the hook for flubbing up yesterday… again and again! I think I need to be more firm with myself these days.
But YES to the triggers; that one is HUGE for me too. That’s why I decided NOT to get the next season of How I Met Your Mother. I love the show but I’ve taken to EATING whenever I watch it (I tried exercising instead. It hasn’t worked so well). So instead, I’m just not watching TV shows alone, even on my computer. It takes me downhill. Sighs.

November 16, 2010 at 7:04 amI especially enjoyed the Triggers part where a family members says I see you didn’t lose all that weight you said you would lose. Planning ahead for me in that case would be to bring a baseball bat and use their head as the ball for a holiday game of headball. Gawd, I hope no one says things like that anymore. I guess they still do but maybe just not to me. Maybe cuz I’m such a good planner aheader. Loved the acronym as usual, Miz. And your arms look great. Oh, and so does the clean house.
