April 14, 2008 at 4:53 amYikes! Pushups! Seeing this has brought back some repressed memories from PE class. 🙂
Crabby McSlacker says
April 14, 2008 at 6:09 amI don’t do push-ups regularly, ’cause I’m too lazy to do multiple sets and would rather do bench presses (the wimpy machine kind) with heavier weights and be done quicker.
But I use them as a spot-check and to reassure myself that all my muscle hasn’t turned to flab whenever I’m away from my regular workout. There was a time back in my thirties when I wasn’t weight training and was shocked to discover I couldn’t even do ONE full body push up. So now if I can still crank out 25 I figure I’m doing fine.
Great instructional video!

April 14, 2008 at 6:09 amMizfit? I love the push ups, but they make my carpal tunnel flare up so bad that I can’t use my hands. Any suggestions on how to make them easier on the wrists? I’ve wondered if those handle things you see on TV might do the trick, but I’m not quite ready to shell out the money for them if they’re a waste.
MizFit says
April 14, 2008 at 6:16 amKim that made me laugh (your MizFit? TOTALLY PICKED LAST IN GYM CLASS. I hath zero hand-eye coordination…still!)
and there’s nothing like a CRAB SIGHTING. no need to even expand upon that one.
and GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE Gena.
that exact question is addressed this week in viewer mail.

April 14, 2008 at 6:52 amThis was perfect!! I was just having a convo with Gym Buddy Candice about proper push-up form (and not of the Victoria’s Secret variety). The end result is that neither of us knows. I’m totally sitting her down in front of your vid today. My pecs thank you! (Hers too)
PS> What – no Tornado perched on your back?? My kids love making my push-ups “resisted” if I am insane enough to do them in their vicinity!!

April 14, 2008 at 8:19 amI love push ups! They are tough but so effective!
The Bag Lady says
April 14, 2008 at 8:23 amOuch, ouch, ouch. The Bag Lady can’t do them. It hurts too much. (Sheesh, what a wimp!!) That said, the wall push-ups might/could be easier on her back, right?

Love pushups.

April 14, 2008 at 10:20 amCharlotte/Jen—-oh that I werent so committed to my Toddler Tornados anonymity. there are a TON of videos on the cutting room floor (aka my kitchen floor :)) for that very reason.
And yes, O’Katie, they are new. WHOLLY UNDESERVED but a better pick-me-up than, say, a pint of Ben & Jerrys.

MizFit says

April 14, 2008 at 10:56 amNice demonstration! What do you think about push-ups using your forearms (to try and work another muscle group)?
Diana the Scale Junkie says
April 14, 2008 at 11:34 amThank you for showing this for all fitness levels and explaining the breathing and stretching in between. You really make this so simple, anyone can do it! Thanks MizFit!

April 14, 2008 at 12:02 pmI love push ups too! They are a portable exercise. 🙂
I always hold my core tight, but that baby blubber just hangs in the wind. (sigh) Someday…..
MizFit says
April 14, 2008 at 12:18 pmW.O. Mommy?
I cant verify if what you are saying is *true* but I can say that it made me LAUGH…the hanging in the wind.

April 14, 2008 at 12:31 pmFAVORITE PUSH UPS EVER- put weight plates under your hands and spread your grip wide as you go down and then slide them in really close when you push back up.
I will intercept Sagan’s mail and laugh as i read. HA.

The Bag Lady says
April 14, 2008 at 2:20 pmThe Bag Lady did wall push-ups today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And repeated the mantra you told her:
MY CORSET’S TOO TIGHT, MY CORSET’S TOO TIGHT
And, after she recovered from her giggle-fit, she really actually did do the wall push-ups. Maybe someday she can join the club, too……….
MizFit says
April 14, 2008 at 3:02 pmBL? You, like it or not, are part of the Original Bumbling Band.
and GO YOU on the wall-ups!
(Ok, I was trying that name out—-doesnt quite work :))

Randi says
April 14, 2008 at 4:44 pmI love pushups. Mostly because people are scared of pushups and being able to talk about doing pushups and just whipping out a few really really impresses. *super bragging moment* in high school, I could do 1 arm pushups. yes, I’m that cool.
Aside note for me, what nice legs you have Mizfit! even kneeling you don’t get that inner thigh squish. my inspiration!
MizFit says
April 14, 2008 at 4:47 pmHOLD ON A MINUTE THERE MISSY (aka Randi)
once upon a time in a story you may never hear MizFit entered a fitness competition (please also to see EMBARRASSING and lack of tata’s).
try as she might she never could do a one arm push up.
You are MY inspiration for ever doing even one.

April 14, 2008 at 5:07 pmI haven’t attempted a push up in many years…perhaps I need to give them a try again. Sigh…I always hated them because I associated them with PE class which pretty much guarantees most children will hate anything fitness related because it seems all gym teachers were sadistic, unhappy people who really enjoyed using dodge ball to humiliate those of us who weren’t incredibly coordinated.
Susan says
April 14, 2008 at 5:48 pmI won’t even try to boast of possessing upper body strength in my little arms. I don’t like push-ups, but I make myself do them – the bent knee kind.
Can I put a photo of your arms on my fridge for inspiration??? 😉
Sue says
April 15, 2008 at 6:08 amThis is what I needed! Thanks! I definitely will try pushups today for my workout, and the word is TRY haha.

April 15, 2008 at 2:08 pmgreat vid! Yesterday I alked into the kitchen andmy husband, who was there a second ago, was gone. I called his name and he yelled back, “Down here!” Um, yeah, he was doing pushups – as many as he could in a minute. Apparently he had just read about what a good measure of overall strength that is and decided to just hit the deck and go forit. I think he did something like 40. Yummy.
