Odds: I did hear back from this fabulous blogger woman.
the coffee maker ICK to which she referred in the comments here? URINE.
As in: people inexplicably PEE in their hotel room coffee makers (an answer which only served to point out to me what a vivid imagination I have. Id gone all *sorts* of grossdarkkplaces with this one & as a result thought, “pee? huh. ok.”).
Another place I went was pondering if I should haul vinegar along with me now on my travels as I ALWAYS (used to always? who can say) use the in-room Mister for my drinking and eating pleasure.
Blogher attendees? you gonna bring a bottle along?
Ends: Yes (*sigh*) we’re still waiting to hear back from this guy (but I hath all faith he wont leave us hanging too long):

June 28, 2008 at 6:20 amHuh. I never would have thought, but it does kinda make sense. I guess. Vinegar is and will forever be on my packing list- and I am not going to think about the hundreds of times I have used that little pot for making oatmeal and coffee and soup and and and. *shudders*

June 28, 2008 at 7:51 amEwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Once upon a time in a summer I used vinegar to rinse my hair. I left the bottle in the bathroom I shared with my brother. He was sure it was for douching. WROOOOONG!
Shows how much he don’t know about women folk.
Sorry – vinegar triggered the memory.

June 28, 2008 at 8:16 amOh that is just gross!! I’ll never use one and not think of that, thanks 😉

June 28, 2008 at 8:27 amI think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Although I also had gone much worse places in my head than pee. (I think it was the reference to her friend being a Vice cop that freaked me out.)
So, yeah. I really needed another excuse to spend every waking morning of my LIFE at Starbucks. No, really.

June 28, 2008 at 8:32 amThank goodness I don’t like coffee! And vinegar would be pretty handy in general when traveling. You never know when you might need a bottle of vinegar (thanks for the tip page!).

June 28, 2008 at 9:26 amI won’t use anything in a hotel I can’t wash properly myself, which is nothing.
Remember if you’re traveling by air to keep your vinegar bottles to less than 3 oz (100 ml) and it must fit will all your other liquids in a 1 qt ziplock bag.

June 28, 2008 at 9:42 amOnly at Mizfitonline will you find Douche, Peeing in Coffee Pots and Vinegar in the same conversation. You gotta love it!
May want to check on Peeler, he had a shoulder injury last bulletin I saw from him.

June 28, 2008 at 10:03 amOK, I admit that I have often used coffeemakers in hotel rooms. I will definitely check them much more closely before using them in the future!!

June 28, 2008 at 11:07 amAlways wondered why the coffee in my hotel room tasted “different” from home…..

June 28, 2008 at 11:51 amDisgusting is all I have to say about the coffee maker. YUCK!

June 28, 2008 at 11:57 amHeard from Brian (is he a closet MizFit reader? Who can say.).
He has been traveling a bunch and doing meetings about/for his new TV show but we’ve not been forgotten!
The video is coming…

June 28, 2008 at 12:32 pmAt least urine is sterile (right? this is what I’m told).
But I’m thanking my taste buds for my lack of interest in any coffee products.
Just don’t tell me what *really* goes into the bottled water I guzzle at hotels (I know. I know bottled water has fewer regulations than tap water and some bottled water is just tap water, etc. etc. etc., but I’ve switched to filtered tap water at home and it’s all about the baby steps people).

June 28, 2008 at 12:32 pmEEEEEEWWW!
I’m definitely getting my coffee from Starbucks when I travel…
Are you going to BlogHer? I’m going for the first time, and I’d love to meet you!

June 28, 2008 at 6:19 pmPeeing in coffee makers? I think I taste a bit of vomit in mouth.
Love the shirt. My favorite is the “be present” shirt.
Have you thought of doing bands with different logos like these? Think that would be a great idea! 🙂

June 28, 2008 at 10:11 pmYou can be funny and gross at the same time!
I now admire you more than ever. 🙂
Hotels are gross and filthy, by the way. Even the best of them.
So, does this mean you ARE coming to BlogHer??

June 28, 2008 at 10:47 pmThank God I don’t drink coffee. Although I wonder a lot about the chairs and seats around the hotel room.

June 28, 2008 at 11:24 pmAm thanking my lucky stars I don’t drink coffee. Although there are so many things, really, that are nasty about hotel rooms. I just usually grit my teeth and mutter “It’s good for my immune system” and then make sure my Hep A & B shots are up to date.
You going to BlogHer???
Crabby McSlacker says
June 29, 2008 at 5:15 amThat’s incredibly gross. What kind of psycho would pee in a coffeemaker??
I can’t imagine it’s common, so I think I may put that in the list of “things I don’t even want to think about.”
MizFit says
June 29, 2008 at 5:23 amI agree, Crab.
I’d gone so many worse places (with the words VICE COP in the comments & all my potty training time as of late) in my head that when Renaissance Man said to me:
Guess you’re not drinking&cooking a’plenty out of that thing any longer when we travel!
I merely shrugged and figured I’d be lucky to remember to run a cycle of pure boiling water first.
As with how we’re supposed to believe that eating raw cookie dough is gonna kill us (the uncooked eggs…) I’ve lived this long without incident so I figure why fret.
M., who isn’t going to be at Blogher (*wipes a proteintear from eye*) but is fo’ shizzle at the next one (& is clueless but assumes it’s a year away?)

June 29, 2008 at 8:17 amNo really people do that…why do people mess up such a good thing.

June 29, 2008 at 1:11 pmCome on folks, can’t we find something better to do than pee in the coffee maker? That is not the “paying it forward” we should all be doing!
WeightingGame says
June 29, 2008 at 5:34 pmcoffee pot aside, I usually get grossed out by the glasses in the bathroom in hotels. I just feel like they don’t get washed often. Then again, there’s the whole bed/sheets/comforter issue…I’m sure they’re cesspools, even in nice plac e. I just need to start staying with friends or at 5 star places only 🙂
DaDivaStreet says
June 29, 2008 at 9:51 pmI always travel with a plastic bottle of vinegar. You never know what you have to wash & disinfect! Saw a news report about the glasses. The maid was just rinsing them out in the (dirty) sink & putting the paper covers on them … yuck! As far as the comforters & blankets go, they are the first thing I take off the bed, I don’t even sit on them. While the sheets may get washed, the comforters & blankets are just put back on the bed. P.S. Use the vinegar to wipe down the sink, toilet, remote control, desks, tables & door knobs. Not a germ-a-phobe, but things aren’t cleaned like they should be!
The Bag Lady says
June 29, 2008 at 11:04 pmSheesh. The Bag Lady never gets to travel. Now she doesn’t even WANT to!
Nitmos says
June 30, 2008 at 12:16 pmNow why did you have to go and tell me that? Now I can’t drink coffee from the hotel room anymore. Can I still lick the hotel remote control??
Cynthia says
June 30, 2008 at 12:49 pmPee?? In the coffee pot?? Why?! I am so glad I have given up coffee and I refuse to think about all of those times I made coffee in my hotel room while I was traveling!!

June 30, 2008 at 8:55 pmOh GACK.
I am too OCD to even touch one of those things anyway, but… OMG.

June 30, 2008 at 9:39 pmThat is SO disturbing. It never even occurred to me (obviously, as I almost always use my hotel room coffee maker)
