It’s my favorite of days
A treat one. Yipee!
We established that it’s:
some for you…some for me.
A day to be silly.
Skip the gym? Just have fun.
Ive got me a tutu.
Did you get you one?
I’ll try & be focused.
Have a backdrop of Zen.
It helps me stay patient
with my little goblin.
She’s hopped up on sugar
(one day? she’ll be fine.)
You not eating the stuff?
Try this tip of mine:
Sugar can help you
keep cut flowers fresh!
One teaspoon in water
and they’ll look their best!
No flowers for me
(Ren Man? you there?)
Though a strong scent o’chocolate
is here in the air.
Speaking of Ren Man
He’s not in the mood!
I suggested this costume
(love Will. He’s my dude!)
Ren Man demurred.
Alas. Oh well.
I thought I was IN
(we both love cowbell!)
So in that same vein
a freebie Ive found
(an etsy BOOKMARK?
good thing to have ’round!)
From a blogger I love.
A creative? who knew!
A fun chance to win
more COWBELL for you.
Here’s the deal, People:
First, please to pretend that you TOTALLY knew what I was referring to with the More Cowbell stuff so I dont feel like a sad misunderstood MizFit.
Next? please to comment on whatever youd like.
You can share your weekend fitness plans if you want or, if you saw it, what you thought of Jillian on yesterday’s Oprah & what would be on *your* Life List to motivate you toward success.
Eh, Id also happily accept anything Will Ferrell related.
(That’s the way we roll here, huh? You show us the lines in which to color and we begin by immediately coloring out of bounds.)
EDITED TO SAY: You dont get the weekend off, oh faithful readers. Swing by at some point tomorrow or sunday for a special announcement.

October 31, 2008 at 3:01 amAw I ALWAYS ask for more cowbell at practice! I am so down with the cowbell, it’s so cheery (although sometimes I think our lead guitarist wants to rip it off the kit and ram it down our drummer’s neck). I loved the clip, it hit home so much that I didn’t even laugh, I just nodded in sage recognition.
THANKS for the Pilates link, that’s amazing! I’ve just got up before we leave for the weekend to do my fitball exercises and now I can have new back-friendly things to add to my core-strengthening plan!
Happy Halloween Miz!

All of ’em!
My weekend fitness plans include a long(-ish?) run tomorrrow (Friday…um, today?) of unknown length and 2 60-min elliptical workouts.
My school’s also trying to win the Pac 10 Fitness Challenge. Very gratifying to know the upper limit on workout entries was 120 minutes — 8 minutes LESS than my race. Muahaha.

Got up super early to go to the gym this morning to get my workout out of the way. My tiny apartment is the launchpad for some serious Halloween fun tonight, so I’ve got mega-cleaning to do before I leave for work…. Praying for 5pm to come early today!!
Besides my regular “gym stuff,” I’ve got a hike planned for Saturday. Can’t wait!

My “puppies” are still asleep right now, but we’re off to a Halloween party at preschool today(with me as a cat, accompanied by a dalmation and a “lapperdog” – aka labrador), followed by a visit from one of the favorite Aunts, topped off by trick-or-treating. Should be a fabulously fun day around here!

October 31, 2008 at 5:39 amDay two of “vacation”
Oh what will we do?
We’re two on a mission
I’m telling you.
We’ll get our car tunes fixed
a CD’s been stuck
if the warranty’s good
Please wish me luck.
An oil change, too
Since I drive all that way
And then some quick groceries
We’ve no time to stray.
Then home to the shovel,
to the garden we go
We’ll dig cannas and glads
And hope to find potatoes.
The boy is a redneck
Wants to go shoot his gun
But we’ve got to be sure
That the yardwork is done.
Then I’ll dress the boy up
It’s like Chucky he’ll go
And for me, a witch
Is the way I will go.
And we’ll walk the whole town
Getting treats ‘long the way.
And I’ll count it as cardio
It’s a gym-fitness day.
I should go to the gym
Don’t know if I”ll make it
Digging and raking’s a workout
Hey, I’ll still take it.
Tomorrow perhaps
It’s a hike we will take
Then it’s out for some football
For my highschool team’s sake.
On Sunday we rest
To a party Hugh goes
As for me I’ll be cooking
Just what no one knows.
That’s my weekend
As far as I know
But the best laid plans of mice and men…
You know how they go.

Love Will Ferrell. He’s just so over the top you can’t not laugh. At least, I can’t, but I’m known for having somewhat unrefined tastes.
Weekend fitness plans…well, I’ll be grocery shopping for several hours, does that count? I thought not. Actually I’m going to burn the heck out of my treadmill and weights this weekend, because I’m at a no-loss-no-gain right now and I really want to post a loss come Monday. I’m ALSO going through all the candy the girls brought home and getting rid of all but a very small amount. I don’t need it and neither do they. A little is definitely okay. A lot, not so much, and they got a LOT.
I did manage to stick to just a couple of pieces last night though, and it wasn’t even that hard. Very cool.
Didn’t see Oprah – and didn’t want to, because I’d already heard on Jillian’s radio show that Oprah barely even acknowledged them. Which I just found sort of wrong. π I’d have been so disappointed…

Valerie says
October 31, 2008 at 8:50 amMiz, I am a “not miss an episode” fan (but not for the reasons you might expect) so I’ll answer your query:
It totally, totally, TOTALLY messes with their heads, and their metabolisms. After reading some blogs and statements from past contestants, you do get a feel for what they go through. It’s the main reason that I now have such a love-hate relationship with the show.
I love that people are changing their lives. I love that the show inspires so many people in the “real world” to make changes that are healthier and less drastic than what the contestants do.
But I hate, truly and deeply hate, the drama and commercialism and associated BS that they use to bring in viewers. It is not what it is supposed to be about – and while these people are losing tons of weight, the things they are doing are not sustainable. It’s inevitable that at least some of the weight comes back when they return to real life (after the finale, not when they first go home), and then they feel they’ve somehow failed. Sorry, taking off 50% of your body weight is not failure, even if 10% comes back. And I hate that people who are watching feel that their 1 or 2 pound a week weight loss is “tiny” in comparison with what they’re seeing on the screen, or think they “should” be working out four hours a day. It’s not okay for real people, and I hate that there’s no mention of that.
So I love that they’re making changes. I just wish it were a bit more realistic, healthy and sustainable. And one reason I’m such a big fan of Jillian (the main reason I still watch) is that she doesn’t generally hesitate to express many of the same objections I have.
V.

A few favorite Will Farrell quotes. (imagine me giggling while typing all of these.)
“It seems that liberals and godless tax raisers are trying to make me look bad, by using such things as facts … and scientific data” (as Dubya)
“I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell.”
“Dear Lord baby Jesus, we thank you so much for this bountiful harvest of Dominos, KFC, and the always delicious Taco Bell. I just want to take time to say thank you for my family. My two sons, Walker, and Texas Ranger, or TR as we call him. And of course my red hot smokin’ wife Carley, who is a stone cold fox.”
“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.”
“I like to whisper too”
“I start my day thinking about the warming of the globe and how we can get it warmer” (as Dubya)
“let me just quote the late great Colonel Sanders, he said, “I’m too drunk to taste this chicken”
sweets&sweats

October 31, 2008 at 10:06 amToo funny! I love me some more COWBELL!!!!! That skit *still* makes me laugh every time I see it.
I’ve DVR’d yesterday’s Oprah and plan to watch tonight.
Love the rhymes miz!

October 31, 2008 at 10:08 amI love the Buddy the Elf costume….and the Elf movie! Huge Will Ferrell fan’s in my house. I might have to consider that for next year’s costume if I can talk my hubs into dressing up and going out somewhere π
Thanks for the fun and rhyme, it’s always a blast to visit your blog!
Amy says
October 31, 2008 at 10:12 amNo dressing up for me – too much pressure, I can only commit to costumes every 4-5 years or so.
HOWEVER, today is my 2nd anniversary, and the architect & I are going out to a swanky dinner after giving away all of our candy to the neighborhood ghouls. π

October 31, 2008 at 10:19 amMy weekend fitness plans? NOT doing my half marathon because of my Achilles π But, I do get to go visit the boyfriend and also be Paula Radcliffe for Halloween. Take the toddler trick-or-treating and have fun!

October 31, 2008 at 10:21 amStop acting like a cheertator! This is a cheerocracy! LOVED that movie.
My favorite Will Ferrell is anchorman. Haven’t seen it enough times to quote.
But a WF we use a lot is “we got a big saturday planned. home depot, maybe bed bath and beyond, I don’t know! I don’t know if we’ll have time!”

October 31, 2008 at 10:25 amI’m totally tied up with my daughter’s social life this weekend. God, I’m such a dork!
MizFit says
October 31, 2008 at 10:26 amsadly I can do most of WFs movies as monologues…one woman shows.
And 90% of them I see and think they are ‘funny’ and then upon the 283828th viewing I’m peeing my nike trail shorts.
And yes.
You KNOW I’m begging his publicist for a post, a quote or a mere comment up in herre.
He IS a marathon runner…
M., who will spare you her fave SAN DIEGO quote from Anchorman because this is a family show, errr, site.

October 31, 2008 at 11:31 amtotally understood the more cowbell reference, as it’s the go-to phrase ’round here when i don’t know what to do/say.
also, i would give my right arm for the cowbell necklace (or any of her stuff on etsy, for that matter!). i think that’s my new weight loss plan, btw…giving away extraneous limbs and/or bodily organs in exchange for cool stuff! no? oh…bummer.
P.O.M. says
October 31, 2008 at 11:32 amI’m jealous of your tutu! I wish I had a tutu. I have about onemilliongillion bits of pieces of costumes, but nothing in full. Just going as a school girl, because I actually have that entire outfit just sitting in closet. Go figure. π
Happy Halloween!
Juice says
October 31, 2008 at 11:41 amMore cowbell!!!!!
My dog modeled a tutu at a doggie fundraiser. She rocked the tutu. I should have bought it for her. Would have made a killer costume with a little tiara.
Anyway, more cowbell.
Alex says
October 31, 2008 at 11:45 am…the only cure is more cowbell! Of course we know it!
I picked dark chocolate for the treaters (still candy, better than HFCS or milk chocolate). And wine for the adults!
AND Workout plan is like any normal weekend – got up this AM and did today’s! Will do something both days this weekend – come cardio, some resisitance, some cleaning. wait…
And if you can figure out where we can watch Jillian, much appreciated. Perhaps some of us don’t follow Oprah like you do, MF!

October 31, 2008 at 12:12 pmInterestingly enough, I wouldn’t have known what the term “more cowbell” meant before about a month ago. A co-worker mentioned it in a joke, I didn’t know what she was talking about…she was shocked, so she promptly looked up the skit on YouTube and made me watch it!

Good stuff, Miz. LOVE the Pilates link. I can always use more/new/creative ways to do Pilates!
And the tutu . . . are you really wearing one today? I can’t wear tutus anymore – I work too many in my teen years. (What? I DANCED, ok? I didn’t wear them as a fashion statement! *dies laughing*)

October 31, 2008 at 4:07 pmmy comment (about anything!) is that i find halloween – valentines day terrifying for nutrition and weight loss and that sort of thing especially because i’m 2 lbs away from my weight loss goal and i just got here and i don’t remember how i dealt with the solid 4-ish months of holidays.

October 31, 2008 at 5:30 pmI took today off so as to fully enjoy Thing 2’s last year of preschool Halloween revels. (I’m grateful that it’s also my manager’s favorite holiday, so he groks.) Thing 2 (the pinkest butterfly fairy ballerina princess) rocked the tutu today; I wore my regular mom-wear (with nice Halloween tshirt) and she plunked a tiara on my head and dubbed me The Mommy Princess. π Thing 1 was cool as a red Power Ranger.
Miz, when you mentioned “Will” I immediately thought the character Will Turner, Pirate. :-9 Although I guess most men would prefer to dress as the more salty Captains, Jack or Barbosa…
…and you can NEVER have too much COWBELL!
Happy Halloween, Y’all!!!

I loved the episode. I actually made spaghetti squash for dinner tonight. π

November 1, 2008 at 6:22 amThe census skit was great; never seen that before! I’ve met real-life people who seem to be that clueless. Sadly, they weren’t as entertaining as Walken.
Without intending any Walken connection, hubby and I watched Sleepy Hollow last night while waiting for trick-and-treaters. A great performance by Walken as the mercenary/headless horseman, and he never even said a word!

November 1, 2008 at 11:05 amI checked out dailyom, and the first thing I see is horoscope, so of course I clicked it (Scorpio). It was about “Giving Possessions Their Value”. So here’s today’s lesson:
“consider that the value of your possessions lies in their ability to benefit people…find great fulfillment in taking stock of your possessions and donating those objects you no longer use…derive pleasure today from watching the people in your life put your possessions to good use…one of the supreme joys of ownership lies in using what you own to improve the lives of others…a possession that sits untouched or isnβt enjoyed is of little value to anyone…
Sharing your possessions will help you see the many ways you can use your blessings to aid others today.”
Therefore, (after I run) I am going to clean out my closet. ‘Cause Heaven knows, I have enough unused clothes and shoes for an army.
On a not so serious note, love the graveyard cake (and the spooky finger cookies- I need to make those!), and would pay good money to see the Hubs in yellow tights (or anybody’s Hubs for that matter). And boy does that Will have serious rhythm!!
I have the Oprah on Tivo- because thanks to modern technology (and Kiki, from whom I found out about the episode) I was able to go online at work, and request that my Tivo at home record it (how cool is that?).
I am going to thoroughly enjoy today, because it will be 70 degrees and sunny. Doesn’t get much better than that. If anyone else wants to join me (in Utah), feel free (plus I could always use help in the closet)!!
