Thanksgiving? So great.
Did not need this post.
No call for a mantra
to calm down this host.
My family came in
From far & from near.
Im so very thankful.
To have them all here.
Im grateful for Ren Man.
Oh hubby? YOU ROCK.
Spent time on my Thursday
To reflect. To take stock.
Im grateful for heath
For a roof o’er my head
For the fact that my Toddler
will soon sleep in a bed.
(Please say that she will,
She wont be in a crib
Until her PROM DAY.
Be honest. Dont fib.)
Im so very grateful
For each one of you.
Taking time from your day
Though youve so much to do.
To stop here and comment.
To drop by and read.
To ponder *my* writing
Im so blessed indeed.
I wanna say thanks.
Spread the gratitude thought.
With a freebie for you.
(yes, enter you ought!)
But before we do end
I urge you TODAY
Make time in some way.
The stories dont miss.
(Record if you choose.)
If no one will listen
the history we lose.
I love love love this freebie, People.
If I could win Id engrave the word GRATITUDE on it.
shocking, I know. I didnt just hit you over the head with that huh? we roll subtly up in herre.
You?
Were you to win the bracelet what 8 letter word or phrase would you use?
something near & dear to your heart or would you, instead, surprise a loved on with his/her favorite inspirational wordaroundwrist?
Please to hit us all up in the comments.
(And, alas, it’s usa only. Id say much to my chagrin but Im really plain ole thankful that Tina was willing to donate the bracelet. Shipping is so expensive huh?)

i think mine would be “stay true.”
as in, be true to yourself and those around you. and be down to earth and all that…

happy thanksgiving a couple hours late.

November 28, 2008 at 3:11 amGlad you enjoyed the day!!
I would have to go with ‘blessed’ to remind me of all the things I’m blessed with in life! When times get rough, just take a gander at my bracelet and bring myself back to present where I can take inventory of the many many things i’m blessed with.
Have a great weekend!
Hanlie says
November 28, 2008 at 3:46 amLoved the poem! We can all do with more time spent taking stock and expressing our gratitude.
My bracelet? “Live now”.
DinosauRN says
November 28, 2008 at 3:51 amAt this time of year, in this economy, I’m sticking with the power of gratitude. I’d do ‘gracias’. It could serve as a reminder to be grateful for what I have and to study my Spanish. I am grateful for your wonderful blog.

November 28, 2008 at 5:03 amHope you had a wonderful T-day! I LOVE the idea of Listening Day. There are so many stories out there to be told, so much to learn and absorb before we can begin to tell them.
TA (finished writing the book!) x
MizFit says
November 28, 2008 at 5:20 amI did have a great thanksgiving. nary a disagreement to be found and, with all kinds of family under one roof, that’s a big accomplishment π
I plan to practice listening day with my parents today.
and call my great aunts.

November 28, 2008 at 5:34 amWell we had a great Thanksgiving! When I’m a little more awake I’ll do a post about ours! π We have so much to be thankful for in our house, but lucky for everyone I won’t try to rhyme. Yeah, that wouldn’t be pretty! π

November 28, 2008 at 6:03 amI AM HERE.
that is what I would have my bracelet say.
I’m not longer meek and quiet!
lovelove the poem MizFit!!!
karen says
November 28, 2008 at 6:05 amI hope you had a good thanksgiving!
I am trying to be grateful all weekend.
who knows how that will work!!! LOL
cammy says
November 28, 2008 at 6:13 amI’m so glad you had a great Thanksgiving! I did, too, and I practiced listening with my grandmother who is currently revising most of the family history. Not surprisingly, she’s coming out pretty saintly in most of it. π
I’m not sure what I’d put on such a bracelet. I like the ‘no doubt’ as shown, or ‘no fear’.
Have a great weekend!
MizFit says
November 28, 2008 at 6:18 amCammy? Are you a member of the MizFit Clan?
My favorite thing about our family (ok one thing….but a big one) is the family member who will tell a story NONE of us recall happening in that manner.
Always tweak to make us look like a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie family.
And when you askchallenge him/her about it the response is always:
THAT’S HOW I CHOOSE TO REMEMEBER IT.
It has become a running family joke.
In a good way.
dragonmamma/naomi w. says
November 28, 2008 at 6:47 amHaha, that’s like our yearly Christmas card photos. We all look so exuberant, you can’t tell how much behind the scenes chaos is going on. Like the time I set the auto timer then caught my foot on the edge of the carpet while running back into the picture and did a face-plant; but I look so happy and unbruised in the picture!
I’ll put more thought into a bracelet word if I win. At the moment all I can think of is “more turkey”!
The Bag Lady says
November 28, 2008 at 6:49 amI have one uncle still alive on my dad’s side who has a revisionist memory, but I love him anyway! Should call him today…..
Heather McD says
November 28, 2008 at 6:56 amGlad you had a good Turkey Day! The potluck I went to was quite the spread, and they didn’t have to roll me out of there when we left. So, it was a good day filled with good friends and good eats. I love Thanksgiving as it’s like Christmas without the stress of gift giving. The focus on time with friends and families is so enjoyable.
On my bracelet, I would put the phrase “Breathe”. Breath is so important for every aspect of life, and we often forget to do this simple thing. At least I do. I would love a daily reminder on my wrist!
Katy says
November 28, 2008 at 6:57 amMy bracelet would say TODAY … as in, live life for today. That mantra helps me get through the days I don’t want to work out, and the days I just want to sit around and eat everything I see!
ellie says
November 28, 2008 at 6:57 amI can’t win but if I did live in the usa and could win I would have mine say FOREVER.
it is a but trite but true.
I have made a number of chnages in the way I love my live and I am not going back.
for anything.
Tina Gasperson says
November 28, 2008 at 7:04 amHi y’all, thanks Miz, you’re very kind. I can’t wait to see who wins the bracelet! I would also like to offer all Mizfit readers free shipping to the US and Canada on any purchases $20 and over at my shop, http://tinahdee.etsy.com. Just let me know in the “notes to seller” section and I will instantly refund your shipping charges through Paypal. π
Nita says
November 28, 2008 at 7:22 amMy word would be “Dance” because I love the phrase, “I hope you dance.”
It reminds me to not worry about what everybody is thinking or doing – just do what feels right to me. Make my own music. Be true to myself.
Sagan says
November 28, 2008 at 7:25 amWow, THANKS TINA for being so generous! Those are such beautiful bracelets. I likes some free shipping:)
There’s something so nice about listening. There’s so much to get out of it! People and things are interesting so when you listen you can really appreciate that.
Just right now I’m grateful that my dad has the strength to fly across the world for justice, my best friend sticks by me no matter what, and the opportunities to do what’s right are endless.
Fitarella says
November 28, 2008 at 7:27 amMine would say “I AM WHOLE”
Love the idea of Listening Day. Very fitting as I am taking pie to my 88yr old neighbor today, she is filled with the most fantastic stories & experiences to share.
Happy belated Turkey day to all the Mizfits!

November 28, 2008 at 7:28 amI was a little disappointed when I clicked on the link. It says the item is sold out and gives other items that may be purchased. But alas, I was rewarded in the comments with what the item was. A BRACELET!! WOW!!
My word would be…endure. Well that’s not exactly 8 letters but neither is persevere and that is my favorite word, so I had to look for a synonym and that’s the closest I could come.
I always try to persevere in every aspect of my life. And like most of us that’s no easy task at times.
Lori says
November 28, 2008 at 7:29 amHappy Thanksgiving!
Truly love your site.
Your poems are always so Delightful.
I think I woul have to say my word
would be “Believe.”
I can think of many more, but
that pretty much sums it all up!
Thanks for all you do.
You Rock, MizFit.

November 28, 2008 at 8:00 amHey, I get to be part wolf, too! I’m a Dog Year.
Listening is important. People need to know they’ve made an impact and/or left an impression. Or that someone else acknowledges they are here.
Linda/Hughsmom says
November 28, 2008 at 8:01 amI’m stumped. I want “perservere”: To continue without halting despite difficulties or setbacks. But it’s too long.
I guess I’d go with persist…abide? prevail? pursue?
I don’t know.
My niece is visiting and I told her about National Listening Day. She wants to know when National “Shut the hell up Day” is…
(yikes, genetics!)
Hey, Miz – get off yer butt! ha ha ha ha.
Oh and Toddler Tor will definitely leave that crib. And probably move into your bed. That’s what That Hugh did, and it took forever to break him of that. (Whew! Right?)
MizFit says
November 28, 2008 at 8:03 amsigh. so.many.thoughts fer you linda.
It’s a post in & of itself.
Leah? It is that last sentence in your comment, IMO.
Knowing we were heard and hoping we will still be ‘heard’ after we are gone.
Fitarella says
November 28, 2008 at 8:07 amLinda – how did you do it?!! Our tot has hijacked our bed!
Linda/Hughsmom says
November 28, 2008 at 8:15 amFitarella – I don’t remember now how I got That Hugh out of my bed….I made him his own room and let him pick out the accessories; got him a tv; let him leave it on all night. Put him in there after he was asleep. He’s 10 now. Every once in a while I”ll let him sleep with me, but I always have to invite him…like when he went thru some crazy depression a couple of months ago and I was worried about him. It was more about me than about him.
Keep putting baby-kins back in her/his own space. Eventually, you will win the battle.

November 28, 2008 at 8:19 amGreat poem. And I love StoryCorps. NPR plays one each morning on our commute into work and sometimes the story will really put things in perspective if we are stressed. Or they will make us laugh.
As for the freebie. I do love freebies. It would have to be a gift for my sister who is teaching English in Korea right now. But I don’t know what it would say…I’d have to ponder that a bit more.
Fitarella says
November 28, 2008 at 8:19 amThank you Linda! She is 4 going on 15 and as of this morning just started calling me “MOTHER!”…(sigh)…ahhh, parenthood π
Sorry all for hijacking the comments.

November 28, 2008 at 8:35 amI would put “SUCCEED” on mine.
I already wear a bracelet that says “Make the Better Choice” so I’m ready for a major upgrade in the bling department.

November 28, 2008 at 9:09 amThanksgiving went off without a hitch this year! I joyfully got to do all the cooking while my husband and MIL played with the girls, it was hosted at her house and she cleaned it all up. I love cooking, she loves my girls and cleaning, it was a totally win/win situation.
Tonight is the other side of the families post T-Day bash where we eat leftovers and play board games and volleyball. I can’t wait to sit up next to my grandpa and hear the stories he tells- between v-ball matched of course.
Mine bracelet would probably say “BringIt” or something like that.
MizFit says
November 28, 2008 at 9:11 amuh oh. Now I want my bracelet to say:
McLovin’
Crabby McSlacker says
November 28, 2008 at 9:16 amLove your awesome poem! And Charlotte’s post! And that bracelet is just too cool.
As a fellow sometimes-giveaway blogger, I feel like I can’t really enter other folks’ drawings because if we all started giving each other stuff it might look suspicious, no matter how up-an-up the process is. But dang, that is one cute bracelet. I swear mine would not say CUPCAKES but something much more serious and inspiring. Or hell, probably CUPCAKES.
adrianna says
November 28, 2008 at 9:44 amwell, i’d probably get one made for my sister, who struggles to really appreciate who she is and all that she offers. so much self doubt and self punishment, and yet THE smartest, most generous, adorable woman.
for her… “love self”
and if i got one for me… “live it up.” π
MizFit says
November 28, 2008 at 9:50 amcranky you’d have to do CUPCAKES (secretly enters you in drawing) and adrianna?
I love that (your sister).
Totally choked this MizFit up.
I’m a softie that way.
Marianne says
November 28, 2008 at 9:57 amStill basking in the glow of a turkey day that came off without much of a hitch, and those things that did hitch? I laughed off as the product of letting go and allowing the kids to actually take part instead of being participants. They did such an amazing job. NOT how I would have necessarily done it, and not exactly the results I expected, but the pride the little pilgrims had was way worth it. And thus, my phrase is BREATHE. (Because that is NOT how you make struesel and you just diluted the brine and there are onions FLYING around the kitchen and the sweet potatoes need to be cut in EXACT cubes and…and…and…breeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaathe.)
POD says
November 28, 2008 at 9:57 amI won my gift (the necklace from Elemental Memories) already so I just stopped by to say that I hope everyone’s weekend/holiday is going well. I am still in bed & didn’t eat too much.
It was difficult watching my sister trying to deal with food issues one week post gastric bypass surgery.

November 28, 2008 at 10:06 amMy thanksgiving was great… yours sounds great too!
deb says
November 28, 2008 at 10:20 amMy thanksgiving? Untraditional to say the least (movie and calamari.) For that I am thankful.
My bracelet? would either read: Be Kind.
or Breathe. Because I often forget to.
I’m heading to the gym today; some hard cardio and some heavy lifting will get me on the right track.
Merry Mary says
November 28, 2008 at 10:25 amSince phrases on jewelry tend to be reminders of some sort, I would want mine to say: LOVE MORE
Dr. J says
November 28, 2008 at 10:59 amI saw a dead wolf on the side of the road on this morning’s run! You don’t want to be that one! Also a big black wild hog walked by!! Not as cool as yesterday when a huge bald eagle flew over the road very low! Got to take what I get, when out doing the wild thing π

November 28, 2008 at 11:21 amwhat a cute poem!!
Miche says
November 28, 2008 at 11:28 amOh, how I love your posts! ‘Tis so important to listen – a skill I gots to work on hugely! And must try to include (in journal) one thing I’m grateful for every day. I think I can do that, considering the bennies that apparently come back 10-fold as well. Bracelet? Hmmmm. “Present.”
Stacey says
November 28, 2008 at 11:37 amMizfit, I had to comment today to let you know that I credit you with helping me on my journey to lose weight. I have lost 67 pounds and am 3 pounds away from my “only in my dreams” goal. Even though I am no longer “overweight” I would still like to lose 10 pounds and I know I can do it.
My bracelet would be engraved…ACHIEVE
Why? Because I can!
SeaBreeze says
November 28, 2008 at 11:42 amI wish I could capitalize on the freebie, but I can’t. If you draw my number anyhow I know some US residences that would love it though. That being said, your post with Charlotte was awesome.
I’m headed to the gym today to make up for my unplanned rest day on Thursday. *crosses fingers* shouldn’t be too busy on a Friday night.
Teresa says
November 28, 2008 at 11:43 amI’m glad your Thanksgiving day was a good one. Mine, too.
I’ve come up with several phrases I would put on my bracelet (Be Kind, Breathe, Create), but the one I believe I’d go with is ACT NOW. I’m a huge procrastinator and no matter what it is that I’m trying to do (breathe, create, etc.), I’d better JUST DO IT! So, ACT NOW is my final answer. π
Geosomin says
November 28, 2008 at 11:43 amI’d put Serenity on it…if I lived in the US. π
Kary says
November 28, 2008 at 11:56 amWell, I can’t win that bracelet because of the delivery issue, but anyway, if I had a bracelet like that I think I will write two words: CARPE DIEM. I know it’s from a movie, but it defines what I want to do everyday: be focus on living the present, seizing every opportunity to be there and do the best thing for me, my family and love ones.
And I hope Miz, it’s okey to do this: leave a comment to another commenter π
DinosauNR: If you want to learn Spanish I can gladly help you if you have any doubt. π

November 28, 2008 at 1:01 pmI love that spring.

such a life lesson for me as well.
and what I want/STRIVE to pass on to my daughter.
the notion that being who she is in itself is enough.
Andrew R says
November 28, 2008 at 1:42 pmThat would be pretty hard to figure out what my bracelet would say in 8 letters or less…. I’m thinking “I ROCK!” just for fun!!
Thanks for the post!

November 28, 2008 at 5:18 pm“I AM LOVED”
That would be my choice. And I’d be giving it to my daughter, Cay, who is struggling with her teen years.
Mz Fit, there is always so much to be thankful for. No matter how things get, there is always beauty in the world, always people who care, and always some moments of peace. Thanksgiving is a big thing in our house… It’s a time of looking forward and looking back. And it’s a time for togetherness, because the one thing we are always most thankful for is each other.
MizFit says
November 28, 2008 at 5:22 pmthe below, Kate, is why (like it or not, huh?) you are such a role model for how to live, embrace and appreciate all life has to offer:
I feel for Cay. My teen years were ugly—but made me who I am today.

November 28, 2008 at 5:59 pmSounds like lots of nice Thanksgiving celebrations! Ours went well; it was hosted by other family members, potluck-style. We all had a great time, and no leftovers to challenge us…except some fruit (we brought a fruit tray) and a few brownie bites for the kids.
Those bracelets are cool! I would get either “aloha” or “mahalo” (thank you in Hawaiian), because I love Hawaii and both words are good reminders for me.
Tricia2 says
November 28, 2008 at 6:10 pm“Try”.

November 28, 2008 at 6:59 pmI’m glad you had a nice Thanksgiving! I just got back from Richmond myself, and I can’t seem to find anyone to go out with tonight so it looks like I’ll be staying in.
Great bracelet. Very lovely. I’m not sure what I’d write on it, but I’m sure I could come up with something ultra-rad.
Ann says
November 28, 2008 at 8:17 pmI think mine would just say ‘do.’ You know, like take action now. In my field (sociology) there is a lot of criticism but not much action. I definitely think the critique is necessary, but I cannot keep a grip on my sanity unless I work to make things better.
Plus, I procrastinate:) But I like so many of these other ideas!
Brianna says
November 28, 2008 at 10:43 pmMine would say BALANCE. It covers many aspects of who I am and reaches into every corner of my life. And, the same phrase would make a great gift for my mom, for whom BALANCE holds much meaning and a strong reminder of her own dreams and goals.

November 29, 2008 at 2:51 pmCan’t believe I missed this! I’m sure I’m too late to enter, but I immediately thought that I’d want the word, “HOPE,” on this bracelet…a word I cling to.
Thinnerme says
November 29, 2008 at 4:01 pmI had a wonderful Thanksgiving…mainly because we went to someone else’s house and I didn’t have to cook π
I love BALANCE, but I think my bracelet would say BE STILL because I am often too impulsive for my own good. I need to remind myself to take that deep breath, ask for help, listen, think things through and then act.

November 30, 2008 at 1:03 pmI would have to go with “blessed”. I have led a very blessed life and need to be reminded of this often. Thanksgiving went MUCH better than planned and I was very blessed by that as well. Kate’s comment touched me.
