with a twist.
If you listened to the latest Two Fit Chicks podcast then youre already well aware how important I believe accountability partners are to goal achievement/overall life success.
If youre a lifer up in herre a long time reader then you’re well aware that we’ve done the MizFit Motivational Match-Ups twice already.
I’ll be honest with you, People. Some matches took off like the proverbial fire that is wild while others never really seemed to create a spark.
Such is life and, being the sad little NONCONTROL freak that I am, I merely matcheth & step away.
The rest, as they say, is up to you (dizclaimer complete).
Precisely what are these match-up things? (thanks for asking)
- Im all about the accountability partners. Peeps whom we may not even see on a regular basis but who help keep us on track with regards to our goals (which are, all together now, really just DREAMS WITH TIME LINES).
- Because Ive been blessed with fantastic support from people Ive never met (you know who you are…) I wanted to set you all up with the same kind of encouraging dynamic. Random pairings of supportive partners (IMO we need NOT share goals in order to cheer each other on to success. Sometimes I think it’s better *not* to share goals so the other person can be impartial/offer insights not tarnished by her own mission/goal striving).
- SUPPORTIVE. HEALTHY. These words are key and, since we are all adults here I shall leave it at that. If you cant envision how this might become UNhealthy with regards to encouragement—–email me. Ill happily enlighten you.
- What does this entail? Whatever you want it to entail!
Emails, instant messages, twitters, text messages, phone calls, small tokens of motivation mailed to each other—it’s all up to you & your partner! What I do suggest is that you take some time at the beginning of the relationship to DEFINE what you’d like to get from the partnership. I promise you it will make the entire thing more beneficial.
The twist? This time we are getting bigger and partnering with Jen of Prior Fat Girl!
What now? It’s all up to YOU. If you decide you’re in just shoot us an email to MOTIVATIONALMATCHUP at YAHOO dot com with COUNT ME IN! as your subject.
Unsure? Please to feel free to ponder but make your decision by Sunday Nov. 8!
Have questions? Seeking more clarity or details? Please to hit me up on the comments.
This is a terrific idea, and I hope a lot of people take you up on this offer and find a partnership that’ll help them stay motivated and healthy!
I’m fortunate in that my husband is my partner in my health and fitness goals too. It really does help to have support!
Great idea!
The last 2 times I wasn’t ready to do this because I was afraid to commit to cheering someone else on when I could help myself.
Any idea how people did it?
all email?
I don’t use twitter.
I am definitely in and appreciate the fact that you added the piece about being a healthy support system.
Sometimes when I read food blogs (THIS IS JUST ME. NO OFFENSE MEANT) I start to think I eat too much and cut back drastically.
A partner who encouraged me in this would not be good.
It there a set period of time for the matches?
Or are they “forver?”
🙂
FOREVER
I love this idea! Emailing now…
Hey Yentel, can you look back and see how long my partner and I have been matched?
All of you out there who are considering this? Carla has a much better sense of people than she does of shoes!
Bwahahahahaha ( I kid because I love… )
and I LAUGH because you funny.
back to answer questions in a bit……
I don’t need a partner at this moment in time but I must say that this is one of my absolute FAVE things you do for your readers! This is such a powerful tool!
Very interesting idea. How do you come up with these cool ideas of yours.
I will think about it for a bit.
I was too afraid the past few times you did this.
I’m emailing you this time!
This is why you’re the Mayor of Blogville 😉
I love the idea of the match-ups… and I think that the questions people are asking are really valid.
I think Lana is bringing up the point that you mention above, too: that sometimes we can be UNhealthy in our attempt to be healthy. But the match-ups can likely help a lot with that!
entirely Sagan
I added that piece above because when I worked in a university setting (with undergrads) I frequently saw competition to ‘be healthy’ soon morph into a competition to be the smallest/eat the least etc.
I like to think that those behavoirs wouldn’t surface in this dynamic—–but have seen far too many unhealthy relationships in my lifetime not to address head on.
I am crushed that my motivational partner can’t remember how long we’ve been matched…… of course, neither can I, but it seems as though we’ve known each other forever!
Carla did a great job with this match. Just don’t let her choose your shoes……
🙂
its spreading like wildfire! this is such a great idea- everyone sign up!!
Partners are a fantastic idea to keep you on track with your fitness goals. I’ve been in the iron game for over 25 years and believe that there is no better way to stay motivated and moving forward then to have a partner. A lot of the time we will let ourselves down but we won’t let down somebody else. Seems strange but it’s true.
Girl…that is so true…I wouldn’t have made it through the past 4 weeks without my gym/motivation buddy 🙂 There’s nothing like complaining to someone about your good sore and having them right along side you in the “I feel ya” department. Sorry if I’m not making any sense…I’m typing all hyped up on cold medicine…
Partners are essential to helping you stay on track, but not just actual workout partners: it could be just the support of family, friends, or even an online community that can keep you on track! Excellent post, and way to motivate people to get engaged with each other 🙂
This is such a cool idea! I’m so very introverted that it doesn’t even occur to me to partake of something like this, so inside my own head am I. But I like the premise of this and have filed it under “get out of my head.” In a good way. 🙂
I need to do this.
Love the motivation matchups! Support and community are key! Brilliant as always Miz!
Such a great idea! I don’t necessarily need a motivation partner since with workouts/food I am pretty self motivated.
I don’t know if you want to have a partner that just helps another …. I don’t twitter & don’t have a laptop or blackberry so I am limited to email only which is not great when I am out & about. Right now I can’t afford extra $$ on my cell phone unfortunately.
Thoughts?
most people did email or facebook!
Hiii!!! Does age matter? I read through all the comments and I have unfortunately fallen into the “university undergrad ‘be healthy’ soon” fad thing wayy too may times. It would be nice having someone to remind me that you don’t have to lose eight pounds a week! Can I sign up too?
ALL AGES WELCOME!
This is awesome!
…however, workout-wise I am generally a lone wolf. I could definitely see myself getting all competitive and possibly fostering/being encouraged into something unhealthy. I think I *personally* will stick with the sparkpeople community since it’s been working for me pretty well, but this is just AWESOME for someone who’s looking for support.
Yay Miz! 🙂
This sounds interesting Mizift; however, if I were to decide to join in, you might have some upset gal being paired up with the sole guy. Hmmm, I’ve got a few days to think this over.
Cheer up. It WILL get better.
South Beach Steve — I think lots of girls would be happy to have a guy “buddy”.
Miz & Jenn – thanks so much for doing this – what a great idea & it’s so kind of you to take this on! So we don’t give you any info about ourselves?
Love it!!! Looking forward to my motivational match! I need it.
Love this idea. Do you have to have your own blog to partake? How do you decide on the “pairings”?
Hi! I just sent you an email. I definitely want to sign up! : ) Jenni : )
Email sent…I need this right now!
V.
I love this idea! Who couldn’t use some extra motivation!?
i like reading food blogs because i am always seeking for new recipes.”.
