As I have rhymingly yammered above—I love me some Jackie Warner.
Yes, I agree that her tv show kinda plummeted in the final season (Im more about the dumbbells than the drama) but I adored how she truly cared about & unflaggingly encouraged/supported her clients.
Her style reminded me so much of how I trained people when I owned my studio (I KNOW! Please to file under prideful & cross-reference under MizFit has chutzpah.).
She’s a cheertasker.
A stickler for form. Relentless in demanding her clients work to push themselves to their limits. Yet always there to cheer them on & believing in them even when they are losing faith in themselves.
So it’s no surprise I leaped at the chance to review her new exercise DVD.
and YES. While I may never have the $400/hr she demands for her one-on-one training sessions the Personal Training with Jackie DVD is a fantastic poor-MizFit’s second choice.
The DVD offers five different workout options: a 15 minute total body circuit, a 15 minute abs only circuit, a 15 minute lower body circuit, a 15 minute upper body circuit, and a 40 minute total body circuit.
What did I love about the DVD?
- It’s almost as though she is right there with you. As an ex-personal trainer my favorite part of the entire dvd is how clear, concise, thorough & SAFE Jackie’s instructions are. She not only describes and demonstrates the exercises—she adjusts her ‘background exercisers’ during the workout and, if you are anything like I am, the adjustments are ones YOU needed to make as well.
- The workout is broken down into upper body, lower body & core work. So many videos merely gloss over the core work and Jackie divides her workout equally among these three pieces. Only glimpse at her midsection was all I needed to be a believer that her workout plan, well, works.
- It’s fast paced. As Ive said before I tend to grow bored during most DVD workouts. Jackie employs lots of supersets & what she calls power burns (doing an exercise for a full minute & then switching) which made the workout fly by for me.
- The Tornado loved it as well. As a mom it is more than a SMALL bonus that my daughter enjoyed hanging with me while I did the 15 minute workouts. She joined in for some parts (she’s a kickass jumping jack’er) & also pretended to be The Warner at others and freely adjusted/critiqued my form.
What didn’t I like about the DVD (subtitle: MizFit reaches for some sort of criticism):
- I wished Jackie had worn shorter shorts. As odd as that sounds I do think Id have benefited from seeing her legs during the lower body exercises (form) & I do think Id have benefited from seeing her legs during the lower body exercises (motivation. she is in amazing shape, People. Seriously.)
- I wasn’t in it. Who doesnt need a pretty-coordinated yet happy to remain in the background MizFit in her video? I was fortunate, however, to chat with The Warner by phone & procure some of her tips & secrets—watch for that post in upcoming weeks.
Would I recommend the DVD?
Yes and without hesitation. I wont lie and say that I found the 40 minute total body routine to be easy (at all) yet I dont think that it’s out of reach for any of us.
I’d recommend the DVD with the caveat of starting with the 15 minute workouts FIRST and working up to the 40 minute routine.
(Or, should you wanna employ the MizFit approach, begin with the 15 minute workouts & watch the 40 minute routine from the comfort of your couch till youre ready to join in. Good times.)
Attention skimmers! Now for the giveaway portion of our post. One about which Im really excited because I found the workout to be motivating, challenging, TornadoDistracting & fun.
I have FIVE copies of Personal Training with Jackie to give away.
You may be entered to win a copy of Jackie’s DVD for the low low price of a comment below.

December 2, 2009 at 4:31 amCheertasker LOL!
I would use the dvd because you said it is FAST PACED. I tend to turn ON the workouts and then get distracted by the mess in my house.

December 2, 2009 at 4:36 amIt would help with holiday stress because I am itching to try something new, but because of the cost of the holidays – gifts and food and travel and such – i don’t really feel right spending money on something for myself right now. Because I’m just a poor, chubby housewife. 🙂
I want a DVD. I like to win.

The video would be awesome for my hectic days this winter where a dark run or the gym just aren’t in the plan (or not all that inviting).

December 2, 2009 at 4:45 amOooo, I love Jackie Warner as well. Is this the workout DVD she taped during the last season? I think she’s amazing as well.
My reasons are the same as Sue’s above – it’s hard to spend money on myself right now.

December 2, 2009 at 4:56 amI would KILL (ok not really) for a dvd which my kids might even watch for five minutes so I could work out.

December 2, 2009 at 5:03 amAh! I love Jackie. I miss workout so much (the weights and the drama ;)). I hear you on the shorter shorts- even as group fitness instructors, we’re encouraged to wear clothing that allows our participants to see our knees! I would love to have an at home weights video.

December 2, 2009 at 5:20 amI would love to win this as a gift for my wife.
She stays at home with our four year old twins and if you are correct and THEY would like to watch the dvd too she would adore it.
Your tweets about The Warner cracked me up too.

December 2, 2009 at 5:25 amI totally love Jackie’s style. Since I never work out at home, but really wanna, I think I’d be more motivated by a video that’s my style like this one – meaning, more weights & boot camp style.

December 2, 2009 at 6:35 amIt would help me so much because it’s yet another INDOOR exercise I could do! I’m running out of things to do indoors, and it’s getting colder and colder (and wetter) outdoors. My hands are drying out from all of the cold wind, and I’m now getting cuts in the skin despite all of the lotioning I’m doing.

December 2, 2009 at 6:42 amwow. I loved the show, and I’d LOVE the video.
Today I was just about to post a confession that I’m no where near as fit as I thought I was. I’m actually a bit weaker than I was post surgically, and although I have better endurance, I’m still not doing what I want to do as far as cardio is concerned. I think a lot of it has to do with an over-all lack of conditioning, so any help would be good at this point.
Something like this? GREAT HELP!

December 2, 2009 at 6:59 amWell, since I finally figured out how to hook up my DVD player after owning it for 7 years (?) I am so anxious to break in some workout DVD’s to supplement my workouts when it is just too snowy, too cold, and/or I need a time saver during the holidays. Oh, and it would come in handy when I’m on vacation and staying at a hotel with NO GYM! Yes, I checked!

December 2, 2009 at 7:28 amOMG I love Jackie too!!!! I watched her show & yes, the drama was crazy at times BUT I loved the workout parts & yes, how she really wanted good for her clients! Me, too, I want to be in her video!!!! She is a stickler for form & I love that!
As for how to make my life stress & holidays easier… well, being a gym person at crazy hours, if this is as good as it sounds, I may stay home to do it & my hubby might well, a bit too x-rated for here but you get my drift. I would be in bed instead of the gym!!! 🙂 That is a stress reliever whether it is sleep or something else, right???
I would so love Jackie at home!!!
PS: Can’t wait for the post on your chat with her!!!!
Sagan says
December 2, 2009 at 7:29 amI’m kinda with you about things like shorts making it harder/easier to see legs, which is key to understanding the moves. There’s a REASON why gym clothes are often tiny (besides the overheating-from-exertion aspect).
I like that she’s all about the form! Too many instructors are, sadly, NOT. It sounds like a fun dvd to do when it’s too cold to go outdoors!

December 2, 2009 at 7:35 amI would love a new DVD that would get me inspired to start the journey to lose the weight…100 lbs to be exact. I loved her show and wish that I could have worked out with her when I lived in LA…the story of my life.

December 2, 2009 at 7:43 amIf I were to win this DVD, it would make my stress less by giving the DVD away as a gift to someone who would use it and it would help my holiday workout routine by NOT sitting on my butt while watching it.
I love her. i had no idea that was her final season. She should do the RHOH along with the boys from Million Dollar Listing. Jackie would wupp her some real estate ass.

December 2, 2009 at 7:44 amI’m off to snag the proverbial worm.
Gummy worms, I hope. Because otherwise . . . ew. 😉
I would LOVE a DVD. I’m currently combing through every DVD I can find for GOOD workouts in under 20-30 minutes. Why? LAW SCHOOL. I’m trying to find things that I can manageably do on days when I leave my house at 7:30am and walk back in the door at 11:00pm. You should see me at Target poring over the DVDs, looking for running times on the back. It’s kind of hilarious, actually.
And more immediately, I started a goal yesterday to workout every day in December (even the holidays). A DVD would be PERFECT.
Joanne G says
December 2, 2009 at 7:55 amLiving in the “north” makes for outdoor workouts near impossible over the holidays….and my gym closes for a couple of days. It would be great to have a DVD to do at home…plus variety is the spice of life!

December 2, 2009 at 7:55 amThis DVD would give me an exercise that’s not running. I enjoy running, but I’d like to be able to do some strength training as well. I just can’t afford a gym membership (or anything else) this Christmas season. Also, it’s really hard to run in the rain / snow / sleet / general cold.
My GOSH! Her abs are ripped! Please let me have abs like that.

i probably wouldnt use the DVD now but I would use it come January 1st when Lifetime is flooded with newbie gym resolutioners!!! ugh.. I’m already dreading it… and if I don’t win this DVD set will be forced to go out and by Jillian Michael’s Shred DVD, because I refuse to step foot into the gym come January!

December 2, 2009 at 8:36 amThis is something our DVD shelf should have! I admit I need to lose some excess pounds but I never to seem to have the energy and time to go hit the gym. December 2, 2009 at 8:46 amWinning this DVD would definitely give me a fresh focus – I have a hard time selecting DVDs as I like a solid, well directed workout and I like to workout at home. I need a new workout DVD and have had real trouble finding one. One with the Mizfit seal of approval sounds great to me 🙂
With my life ramping up as I start grad school I am getting into a routine in the holiday month so that I am really on a routine once January comes. I figure if I can keep it up over the holidays, nothing can stop me 🙂 I need to ramp up and keep a solid workout that is under 40 minutes to add to my workout days in the mornings to keep me fit and happy. I want to make sure I look after my body while I feed my brain.
Sign me up! I’d love this…

December 2, 2009 at 8:48 amWould love to try this DVD! I have a decent collection of DVDs, but I often wish I had one that made it easy to do separate upper body/lower body workouts on different days – I find most DVDs are total body workouts. Which is fine, but sometimes I’d like to be able to separate them and do a short strength workout every day.

December 2, 2009 at 9:15 amThis dvd sounds great! As more of a “slackleader” than a “cheertasker”, it sounds very motivating.
I too suspect I would like to see her in shorter shorts. Um, so I could check out her “form”, yeah, that’s it!
And seriously, a rhyming FTC disclaimer that includes the word B#llsh%t? That’s just too awesome.

December 2, 2009 at 9:18 amSounds excellent. I like the fact that you preview these tools and give us your honest opinion!
For me, why/how it would help – it’s where I live…remote-so not a lot of options and…I can’t just run to the store and grab whatever dvd is good-I’m 2.5 hrs away from stores! ( I don’t have any due to the fact I don’t know what’s really on them and if they are any good) AND…the weather keeps me in during this season! High winds and heavy rain equals a stagnant pond so to speak!
Thanks for considering me.
Have a great day!

December 2, 2009 at 9:21 amThis DVD would make my life so much easier this holiday season because with work, school, my 2 volunteer positions AND xmas shopping PLUS seeing my family and friends, I’m lucky if I have enough time to sleep, never mind travel a half hour each way to hit the gym. But I’m sure I could find 40 minutes to work out at home. And this sounds like the perfect DVD– upper, lower and core all in one package? Almost seems too good to be true!
Stacie says

December 2, 2009 at 9:31 amBetween the Christmas shopping, the parties, the work related functions, and my ever expanding baby bump — free time is something I have less and less of. This DVD would help me to “sneak” in workouts even in the midst of my biggest time crunch of the year.

December 2, 2009 at 9:35 amThis sounds like the greatest new DVD I’ve seen in a while – would love to have it! As a broke vet student, I’ve had to kill my gym membership, but my meager pile of DVDs are getting to where I know them by rote – winning this one would definitely give me a new boost for the winter chill!
Thanks for the review (and giveaway)!!

December 2, 2009 at 9:40 amI live two subway lines and a bus away from my gym now (figure over an hour travel, each way), and running outside in my neighborhood at night isn’t the safest idea unless you’re toting a knife. I’m relegated to working out in the (relative) safety of my apartment now, and putting my bike on my trainer gets pretty boring after 45 minutes (plus I’m always nervous that one of the cats is going to get curious and stick a paw into my wheel). Add on to all that the fact that I may be having shoulder surgery next week and will be stuck in my apartment recovering for at least two weeks.
I am in desperate need of workout DVD’s. Jillian Michaels 30-day Shred is awesome, but gets boring.
It would also be nice to just watch Jackie work out while recovering from said potential surgery in a drug-induced haze 🙂

December 2, 2009 at 9:57 amHow would winning this DVD lessen my life-stress & make my holiday workouts easier?
We have 3 inches of snow (and there will be more over the holidays), so no planned run and I don’t want to drive to the gym. It would be much less stressful to pop in a DVD and workout!

December 2, 2009 at 9:59 am“I wished Jackie had worn shorter shorts.” – awesome.
I am headed to Colorado during the holiday to a remote area w/ no “equipment” aside from a jump rope. I would prefer not to freeze my butt off outside trying to get in my activity. The DVD would be lovely because I could workout in warmer than freezing temperatures and do it early or late in the day w/o regard to other plans and sunlight 🙂

I think this video is a great place to start!

December 2, 2009 at 12:12 pmThis video would be PERFECT for our 1-2 week breaks between boot camp sessions. I have no problem running on my own, but for strength/core work I like to have someone telling me what to do! Otherwise, I’ll do a few reps, say “this is hard” and plop it on the couch!

December 2, 2009 at 12:13 pmIt would make holiday working out easier because I could take it with me anywhere! December 2, 2009 at 12:30 pmOoo, I love workout videos with short segments, so I can feel like I’ve at least done *something* on the hectic days. Plus I’m really slacking on the strength workouts at home. (Might be because Things 1&2 always want to use my dumbells when I’m trying to use them…guess it’s time to get the kids their own tiny ones.) Your recommendation is the icing on the cake! December 2, 2009 at 2:28 pmLove Jackie! I workout with her exercise on demand stuff. Winning would de-stress my holiday season because I wouldn’t have to worry about what’s on exercise on demand. I could just pop in a video (right now, my dvds are limited to pre-natal yoga and some ancient step workout that I’m too uncoordinated to use!).

December 2, 2009 at 3:14 pmI would use it because … DAGGONE it …. I have to do something, and I loved her show, and 15 minutes … I CAN DO IT. I keep feeling the need to take care of everyone else this season (actually the past 4 years) and I have completely lost myself. I have to start taking care of me, and I need a kick in the rear, and I also need to figure out how to start a blog – I love reading you and Jen (Priorfatgirl), and if I could voice my thoughts as well as you two, I could be the person I know that I’m meant to be!
Thanks MizFit for making me realize that only I can take care of ME first, so that I’m healthy to take care of others.

December 2, 2009 at 3:22 pmI had to give up my gym membership due to financial issues and I HATE boring workouts! Nobody will work out with me, so I’m often stuck doing boring, repetitive exercise alone. I’d be much less stressed about exercise, and much more likely to do it, with a good DVD!

December 2, 2009 at 3:25 pmSounds like a nice workout. I enjoy workouts that are simple, easy to follow and kick some butt.

December 2, 2009 at 3:35 pmWinning the DVD would mean less money spent. Too much spend already for Christmas.
And it would be a NEW workout. Instead of once again doing the ones I have done a million times (which by the way do not have a Miz in the background either), I will have something new to do. And new workouts usually mean new weight loss. (a shock to the body you know!)

December 2, 2009 at 3:43 pmHi I am a newbie to your blog!
I would love to win this DVD since I currently only have 3 DVD’s in rotation and I am looking for some new fun workouts that are super fast paced. I tend to get bored quickly and from your description this is exactly the type of DVD I need.

December 2, 2009 at 6:06 pmI would totally love this dvd! Ya know me – need to not be bored but not so good at the strength training stuff – at least not on my own! I thought I was the only person who watched Jackie Warner because of the gym stuff not the drama!
So come on – send me the Warner! It is as close to a personal trainer as I can afford!

December 2, 2009 at 6:24 pmoh yay! i would love the dvd because up here in MN, it gets dark at 4pm and it’s reeeeaaaalllly cold, so sometimes i just don’t wanna go to the gym, so i burn through some dvds. this dvd would lessen the stress of trying to get to the gym during the holidays.
i just completed the 30 day shred and am looking for something new! i found 8 minute buns/abs, but i’m thinkin that just wouldn’t cut it 🙂 hehe
thanks! 🙂

December 2, 2009 at 6:40 pmWinning this DVD would definitely de-stress my workouts over the holidays. It would mean one less trip commuting to the gym (less gas!! + less wasted time = YEAH!). I love Jackie Warner and have been a fan of her Bravo show since the first episode. I was so depressed to hear her show would not be returning. So the DVD would give me my “motivational Jackie fix”.

December 2, 2009 at 7:13 pmAfter 5 years as a stay-at-home mom doing freelance work, I returned to “real” work in September (hubby got laid off and we both looked for work; I found it first, so he’s home now with the kids). Evenings are strictly family time, which leaves only mornings to work out. I am very glad to have a recommendation I feel I can trust for a video, since I need an option for days I can’t drag myself to the gym at 5:30 a.m. or want to work out evenings after the kids are in bed.
Katie R says
December 2, 2009 at 7:53 pmThis DVD will make my life easier by giving me another option for an at-home workout. Sometimes, its just too challenging to get to the gym…Plus, maybe I can inspire my husband to workout with me (or maybe Jackie can 🙂 )

December 2, 2009 at 8:04 pmA new DVD would be great motivation to keep me going through the holidays. I normally do my workouts in the morning to help me make better choices through the day. I use it as a reminder that I worked really hard and wouldn’t want to ruin it by eating poorly.

December 2, 2009 at 8:06 pmWinning this DVD would definitely help in the working out department over the holidays…as in…NO EXCUSES! Especially when the gym is closed or I’m running behind because of holiday cooking, gift wrapping…or any other excuse I can come up with. Easy Peezy when its staring right at you!

December 2, 2009 at 8:44 pmSince I don’t actually belong to a gym, this DVD would help me to workout more effectively and safely at home. And, I think I can fit a 15-minute workout into my daily routine. 🙂

December 2, 2009 at 10:04 pmI would love to win this as I am trying to fall in love with strength train and am doing it three times a week, but only for about 20 minutes at a time (if 20 minutes works for Miz, it works for me!). The DVD would work perfectly with that time limit!

December 2, 2009 at 10:41 pmI would really love to win this. I love Jackie Warner as well. She is definitely inspirational. Since I have a lil infant at home I work out from home right now and this would certainly help kick up some inspiration for my current plateau. Losing baby weight while working out at home isn’t always super easy, so some Jackie motivation (and form corrections) would be fantastic. Not to mention…I never know how long the little will sleep and thus how long my workout will be. 15 minutes sounds like a great start.

December 3, 2009 at 5:50 amYou may delete my comment if you want.
I think you are wasting your time and talent, MizFit, with all your blog entries promoting other people’s work.
Write your own book.
Film your own DVD.
Judging by the number of comments your posts garner I believe you already have an audience waiting.
I work in public relations and marketing & mean this in the kindest way possible.

December 3, 2009 at 7:15 amI would love to have this DVD. I have just recently given up some of the cardio world and entered into the weight lifting world. I’ve been reading all kinds of books on lifting and form, but actually seeing someone do it is so much easier than reading.
There are days that I don’t want to even think about “ok, do I need to do my biceps now, what exercise should I do, where did I put that log?” This DVD would be great to turn on and just let someone else tell me what to do and remind me of good form.

December 3, 2009 at 8:17 amWinning this DVD would eliminate a lot of stress in my life this month. December is always a hetic month. I struggle with finding balance in my life. I am a RN and work on a busy pediatric unit at our local hospital. December is crazy at work. We are often faced with bed crunches and other demands from the increase sick kids in our community. I generally work 12 hour shifts. Doing so makes it difficult to fit in my workouts. When you add the other demands on for the month, I feel like I am going crazy. Christmas parties, shopping, decorating, baking and of course Christmas shows snuggled by the fire with the kiddos. Who has time for the gym. I struggle everyday trying to achieve the balance I need. UGH!! Having this DVD at home would allow me to workout after my kiddos are asleep or when I finally get home from work at 9pm.

December 3, 2009 at 8:46 amI must confess, I…. fell off the workout wagon.
Being unemployed, you would think that there are enough hours in a day to squeeze in a workout. However, what is often overlooked is the depression and time consumption of searching for jobs. I spend more time on my butt researching jobs than when I was employed getting work done(getting up to go to the copier, hand delivering reports, walking to meetings, etc). When I was working, it was a lot easier to fit in a workout. Sounds wierd, right?
I would love this DVD. If it is as motivational as your review claims, it would be perfect to get me back into shape and look good and confident in my interview suit.
Wishing everyone the happiest of holidays, whichever holidays you follow!

December 3, 2009 at 11:49 amHonestly, I’m not sure any thing could make this time of year less stressful – it’s all about the attitude for me. But having this DVD would give me the novelty I need to motivate me to do workouts when I’m stressed and trying to find excuses to skip my regular ones.

December 3, 2009 at 5:32 pmI <3 the disclaimer rap. Awesome! I’m also a big Workout fan. Jackie has a new show coming out, right?
A new DVD would make my at-home workouts more fun–so the stress of bundling up and freezing on my walk to the gym would be avoided! But it sounds like many more people here commenting deserve it way more than me, so I’m gonna put this on my Santa list 😉

December 3, 2009 at 11:47 pmWell, I am a full time college student, and I work full time. I try to make it to my school’s gym as often as possible because my tuition pays for it- and I can afford free! But the gym closes during the holidays, and I am forced to rely on outdoor and DVD workouts.I have a slew of them, but many are from before I lost the first 40 pounds, and are not challenging enough for me anymore.
It would be great to have a new motivating DVD- something to get me through the tricky holidays!

December 4, 2009 at 7:58 amWhat a great giveaway! This would definitely “de-stress” my holiday in the fact that we are traveling a lot this season and I have just started getting in the groove of a daily workout. I’ve been concerned that I will totally derail when we are at my parent’s home. They live in the woods, and usually have a fot of snow by the time we get there so running outside, as I have been doing, doesn’t sound as appealing as usual. I’d love this video!!

December 9, 2009 at 11:13 pmI did a homw workout called Pole Dance Aerobics. I bought a pole and put it up in my living room with my DVD. Started my exercise and haven’t stopped since. That was 7 years ago. I have lost a total of 75lbs within a 2 year period. Plus it was so much fun. That inspired me to offer this exercise to other women. So I opened the first pole studio in the midwest 5 years ago. I now have 2 locations and am going strong. If you have a class like this in your area I highly recommend you try it once. Alos you can do what I did and just get a DVD and do it at home. You won’t be dissappointed and will be sore as ………!!!!
