Check out my new fave sports bra for running!
(and check out who finally discovered the THUMBNAIL option! )
Being of the small boobed variety it has constantly befuddled me that I struggle to find a comfortable bra in which to run.
Before I decided to join the running masses I either did ZEROimpact cardio (stationary bike) where *anything* worked or I donned two sports bras for highimpact cardio like classes etc.
As a result, it was with more than a little skepticism that I accepted a free sports bra from Kaos (yada yada yada FTC dizclaimer. bra was free & this review is brutally honest.).
Quite frankly I wasnt confident I could “guess” my appropriate size (Im broad around the ribcage which makes me a medium in many brands) & wasnt really in the mood to get a product review done before Christmas (types the Jew).
But for the sake of my sad little tatas I caved.
Not only did the man who contacted me seem to truly believe in his product—-I needed a good bra for my training and was willing to give anything a shot.
It arrived.
I immediately opened, yanked on, loved the hit, & hit the proverbial ground running.
The results? LOVE.
No chafing. No rubbing. No trying to adjust all thru my run because it just wasnt comfortable. And, most important to this 40 year old who’s fighting a war against gravity, it kept me pretty damn immobile.
In a really great way.
(I know. For all 6 of my male readers this post is probably just one big TMI.)
What didnt I like about the bra? Quite frankly I have to say nothing.
I am so smitten, in fact, Im going to check out the entire system of layering Kaos offers.Β A layering system which I’d initially scoffed at but, since my bra’xperience, Im now totally curious about these.
Do you need more reasons to go and check out their women’s line? Their entire Lady KAOS line exemplifies a commitment to environmental sensitivity by using an innovative bamboo charcoal fiber (!) that blends luxurious comfort & state-of-the-art performance with the latest βgreenβ technology.Β Now, I cant attest to the actual green technology (love the idea) but I can attest to the comfort.
So that’s it, People.
Im still lolloping along in my quest for a marathon & am 100% adding the Kaos sportsbra to my Good Lord I CAN do this! arsenal.
Bottom line? I begged asked nicely and have a sports bra to give away to one winner (*cue confetti*).

December 22, 2009 at 2:42 amI never seem to have enough support in a sports bra and always have to double up. I’d love to find something that really did do what a sports bra is supposed to do…support!
Gemfit says
December 22, 2009 at 2:45 amSince I’m outta the reasonable shipping range (and my tatas need a lot more support than they look to give), I’ll pass but I’m glad you found something you like. Support in every form is important when you’re running!

December 22, 2009 at 4:23 amoh man! I totally do the 2 sports bra thing right now (with the exception of a few UA sports bras that rock). I would love to give this a try as I don’t want the girls flying around while I teach class!!

December 22, 2009 at 4:25 amI’m shocked that you of the smaller boobs π use two sports bras when doing high impact!
I thought it was just us bigger women.
I looked at their website too—pretty cool.
I have so many bra horror stories (blisters etc) I’d love to win but would never post a photo! π

December 22, 2009 at 4:33 amI do the regular bra under the sports bra thing, which I know is stupid but I can never get the right fit from a sports bra. The ribcage part just moves all around, my bazooms are bouncing all over the place, and I just don’t need that. I hate cardio enough as it is.
I think perhaps the right sports bra would make me like cardio. Maybe it’s like magic.

December 22, 2009 at 4:41 amBiggest lament was when my fast cells were swelled and I lied to myself telling me the sport bra size I was wearing was perfect when I knew dang well it was too small.

December 22, 2009 at 5:26 amCute, cute, cute sports bras (the whole line, really), but I refuse to order a 2X anything ever again. Yes, it says it’s a size 10-12, but the psychological effect of having to check the 2X box again might be ruinous.
I could, however, possibly survive having to order the too-cute capris in size L (6-8). π
Thanks for sharing the info!

December 22, 2009 at 6:57 amOMG, do I need this.. my sports bras are so old!!!! I am like you, I am broad around the ribcage AND the upper back due to my weight training BUT I am a small booby person too AND fighting the age big time as these little ones I have still try to hit the waist area even being so small! YES, it is hard to find a sports bra that works & I do a lot of cardio!!! LOTS!!!!!!!!!!!! And HIIT too! So, my biggest lament, finding something that fits this bod right & does not creep up or does not leave marks & such… OH, I need a new sports bra!

December 22, 2009 at 7:10 amMy only issue with sports bras are the ones with padding that likes to move around. I end up looking like I have a boob in the middle as well.
I’m not wide through my back and I’m small chested, so I don’t have too much trouble finding bras that work. I am however always happy to get a new one. ;o)

December 22, 2009 at 7:20 amI am SHORT. As in the distance from my hip to my ribcage is about…3.5 inches…eh maybe 4 if i stretch a bit. This also means the distance from ‘ribcage’ to shoulders is pretty darn short too.
Most sports bras I buy just aren’t ‘short’ enough. They are made for someone just a tad LONGER so my ‘girls’ end up bouncing around and screaming at me after about 2 miles. I push on through, but gosh darnit!! Not to mention the EXTREME cleavage I end up having if I wear just a tank top over it instead of a shirt. It’s ridiculous.
I actually almost ‘bounced OUT’ of my sports bra last thursday while teaching turbokick. Seriously!
SO SO SO annoying!
Natalia Burleson says
December 22, 2009 at 7:25 amYou are funny – you’re having a “war with gravity”? At least you don’t have two floppies that could give you a black eye, or rather two black eyes, if I even attempt to jump. I would love to find a sports bra for mine. But I don’t think they make sports bras that big.
I’m glad that you love this one, I’m off to check it out and see what sizes they offer. π
Natalia Burleson says
December 22, 2009 at 7:28 amWell that was quick, oh well, no need to enter me as they don’t have my size. But the biggest sports bra prob for me is that they flop no matter what oh wait that’s any bra not just sports!
Theres the company’s first tip though. it seems the need to fill a, well, NEED!

December 22, 2009 at 7:32 amMy biggest complaint is the lack of support. Most sports bras have this tiny little band that doesn’t do anything! And chafing when you do longer runs.
Jen, a priorfatgirl says
December 22, 2009 at 7:35 amSadly, this past year…I’ve gone from having me some boobies to having me no boobies. I used to be in the “I can’t find a bra that fits cuz they are so big” group to the “uh, I have no boobies but still need a bra to hold the so called no-boobies in place when I run” group. um. am I a dork or what? Love you & your thumbnails!
Jenny Rohrs says
December 22, 2009 at 7:37 amWell, I’m not sure if this bra will keep the D size girlies under control, but I sure have enjoyed the conversation. Furthermore, I agree with many of may sistahs – UniBoob is a BAD thing, and Kaos needs to adjust their sizing system. XL is 8-10? What a way to give a girl a complex. Yikes!

December 22, 2009 at 7:42 amUgh, finding a good sports bra is SO hard. I’ve got next to nothing in the chest and there’s very little (pardon the pun) in the stores that accommodates for flat-chested women!
The good thing is that once you DO find a decent sports bra, the chest doesn’t get in the way of a good workout π

December 22, 2009 at 7:48 amat my heaviest, just starting out, I was wearing THREE bras layered on top of each other to “hold me tight” – bouncing was extremely painful. I am in a 29 around now, but still in the DD or DDD range – so not sure that this type of bra would ever work for me. My current love is actually an underwire sports bra that hooks.

December 22, 2009 at 8:23 amI am of the BIG bust variety (36DD)…And just last week, when I was working out with my Zumba DVD, my little 5 year old girl commented that my “boobies kept going up and down up and down.”

Jody says
December 22, 2009 at 8:40 amI have a whole drawer full of sport bras. I actually prefer to wear them instead of regular bras as my girls are small and the sports bra just hold them down but my biggest issue is sometime the straps rub my upper back and drive me nuts. I always would love to add a new bra to my collection.
Rebecca says

December 22, 2009 at 9:03 amNot really a gripe, per se, but I’ve lost quite a bit of weight since I last purchased sports bras, and now they’re all too big and I have to pin them for them to be even remotely functional. Guess what I’m buying with Christmas gift cards…
Crabby McSlacker says
December 22, 2009 at 9:07 amI’m guessing your male readers won’t mind reading about bouncing boobs TOO much.
The bra looks great but I discovered once, after being stuck in a dressing room for about 15 minutes, that I can’t escape from those cross back kind once I put them on unless they have some sort of release in the front. But for your more limber readers, sounds awesome!

December 22, 2009 at 9:10 amI have been searching for the *perfect* sports bra since I started running years ago. Being in the C/D range, and with gravity NOT on my side, I have a hard time a) finding the right amount of support, and b) not looking like a pancake.
It’s difficult to find a bra that offers support while still maintaining a girlish figure. =)

December 22, 2009 at 9:14 amI am currently doubling up on sports bras, which is not so much fun AFTER the workout, trying to peel off two damp, sweat-soaked, cold bras! My first layer is too big, actually – as I’ve dropped a good 45 pounds since I bought it. I would love to win this and will try not to have too much of a complex at having to choose the size “2XL” π

December 22, 2009 at 9:58 amMy gripe with sports bras is that they always assume that anyone larger than 1x also has a large RACK! What about us with a larger band size, but no need for a HUGE cup?
Dani says
December 22, 2009 at 10:02 amMy biggest issues is after all the searching high and low for one that fits right, one that doesn’t chaf, one that supports the girls, and one that doesn’t instantly convert them to a uni-boob, they inevitably get discontinued. I then spend months searching online, in outlets, on vacations to find any leftovers, and stock my reserves.
I’ve lost a bunch of weight over the past year and have dropped several band and p sizes – now my quest is on yet again because none of the reserves fit anymore. Your post timing couldn’t be better π

bunnygirl says
December 22, 2009 at 10:36 amI guess I’m lucky that most sports bras work fine for me. Being small helps a lot in that department. But geez Louise, getting the darn things off and on requires Houdini-like contortion skills! It’s bad enough when they’re dry, but after a long run in the summer heat and humidity, I’ve been tempted to take the scissors to my sports bra just to get the wet, going-nowhere thing off of me.
Tiffany says
December 22, 2009 at 10:38 amI am so lacking in the chest department, and also have a broad ribcage, so the sports bras that fit the girls are way too tight at the band. Add to this the heart rate monitor strap that I wear under the bands, and I have trouble breathing!
Katie says
December 22, 2009 at 10:45 amMy biggest lament is fit. Finding something that fits my larger chest but not so large rib cage is a pain in the butt AND expensive.

December 22, 2009 at 10:48 amI wish there was a sizing chart linked from the bra page. I am on the opposite end of the boob spectrum, and although I would guess that I’m probably an XL or 2X in boob size, it’s hard to gauge, since in some bra bras, a 2X is equivalent to a 40-something C cup. I have a LOT of angry feelings about sports bras, due to the fact that it is really difficult to find a REALLY good, affordable sports bra with maximum support if one is bigger than a C. (SO MUCH ANGER. MUST STOP THIS COMMENT.)
*ahem* I agree w/ Casper’s statement that sports bra sizes should correspond with regular bra sizes.
Jenn (eating bender) says
December 22, 2009 at 10:50 amI was so excited the first time I actually felt I needed to wear a sports bra for “support.”

December 22, 2009 at 10:54 amNo need to enter me in the contest, but I just wanted to chime in and say thanks for running this!
Here at Lifescript, we editors were thinking of doing a “road test” of a variety of sports bras because we ALL have trouble finding the perfect one. For me, personally, I’m with bunnygirl all the way — the contortionist skills required to get some of them on and off are enough to make me want to just fling them to the heavens! And spending a whole day in the dressing room doing that??? No way! (That’s why I love these personal recommendations! Thx again!)

December 22, 2009 at 10:55 amAs one of your six male readers, I am going to surprise you and leave a comment. My wife always complains about the movement when she tries to exercise. She attempted to start running last year and quit because the bouncing was too much. You wouldn’t think it would be that hard to design a sports bra that would make the assets immobile.

December 22, 2009 at 10:56 amMy biggest lament has to be that I am wide through the rib cage too and can never find a bra that is comfortable and doesn’t cut in. I would love a new bra to aid me in my upcoming half marathon training!
deb roby says
December 22, 2009 at 11:00 amMy biggest sports bra lament? May I have two?
1. I am not THAT big- a 34C. Why must all supportive sports bras turn me into a uniboob?
2. THE BIG ONE. I wear these bras when I lift. By the end of most workouts I am a sweaty mess -and we all know how sticky a bra can get when it’s moist. And usually my muscles are so shot that I physicall cannot pull or tug a bra off my body without crying.
Why don’t they make more front-zipping/ front closing sport bras? I usually have to wear my bra into the shower, get it completely wet and soapy and then be able to get it off.
And re: the Kaos website- I want a size chart. No way am I going to trust anyone’s definition of a size without some measurement standards.

I ALWAYS wear two sports bras. I have tried every bra under the sun, from underwires to the zip up the front ones that Oprah swears by and I still have to wear two. I don’t even care about the uniboob; my only concern is keeping the girls in place. You’d think it wouldn’t be so complicated?
I will spare you the gross details of the rubbing, poking and overall discomfort that comes with wearing (and then removing) two nasty, sweat soaked bras.
If this is as good as you say it is, I have a plethora of well-endowed friends who would be willing to shell out some cash in exchange for only having to wear one sports bra to work out in. Of course, I’d have to win and try it first! π

December 22, 2009 at 12:20 pmFor me it is quite a quest to find one that actually provides enough support. When I was about 100lbs heavier it was near impossible to find one big enough. Now the challenge is to find one that provides support because I carry some excess skin in the chest area now. Right now I use two at a time for any high impact activities but that isn’t the most comfortable solution.

December 22, 2009 at 12:35 pmI have a size 32 ribcage and DD cups so it’s hard enough finding a bra that fits, let alone a sports bra!! Usually I have to wear 2 bras if i plan on doing the (gasp) jumping jacks that Jillian Michaels seems to love so much!
If a sports bra fits my ribcage it smooshes down my boobs so much that my chin is practically hitting the girls when i do crunches. Oh, and nothing is worse that wearing a sports bra with clasps when you’re repeatedly coming down on your back with every sit-up! It was clearly not a woman who decided that THAT was a good idea.

December 22, 2009 at 12:37 pmit is SO hard to find a good running bra! i’ve been running for 13 years and it’s always a struggle. i’ve done the wear two-at-a-time thing too to keep the girls in check, but that is pretty uncomfortable. this one does seem pretty awesome, so as a fellow runner, i’m very happy for you!

December 22, 2009 at 12:38 pmr they serious?? a 2x = a size 10-12???? π ugh.. so no cup size?? geez that’s so generic
my biggest issue is that my back is bigger than my cup and usually doesn’t match so to speak so I have trouble finding a decent sports bra with enough support when I’m teaching my cardio classes vs. when I’m running..

December 22, 2009 at 1:23 pmMy biggest sports bra lament is that they are never supportive enough for me. I’m either bouncing all over the place or feel like a boa constrictor is smooshing them to death. The first place I gain and lose weight is in my chest so I’m always trying to find a bra that fits. When I’m thin I’m a strong C and when I’m heavy I can get into the DD category. I’m looking forward to seeing the C cups again. π
You look fabulous in your sports bra!

December 22, 2009 at 1:26 pmWhat bothers me about exercise bras is how short the “honeymoon” period is. When I first get an exercise bra, it feels great, the girls stay in place, and all is well with the world. But after a few months it feels like I might as well have left the bra in the dresser at home, for all the good it does me while running!

December 22, 2009 at 1:54 pmMy biggest lament is that I have the opposite problem as you – Despite having lost over 50 pounds in the last year+, I’m still a D-DD cup and now have a smaller yet inbetween ribcage measurement (think 37 D & 1/2).
I’ve developed a love of running along with the lifting of heavy things and am still trying to find a sport bra that doesn’t smoosh too much but gives supprot so I don’t have to do the double bra thing on high impact days. π

December 22, 2009 at 3:47 pmBeing of the larger-chested population, and one who has subsequently LOST size d/t weight loss (yay and boo all at the same time), and one who is fighting a very losing battle against gravity….my problem is always support and prevention of the tatas meeting my mouth (or shoulders, or knees) during my run.
I’ve done the double-up, hell, I’ve done the triple up at one point. I’ve done the greased-monkey-squeal to take off said bra. I’ve done the mambo and the cha-cha to take them off as well….sometimes I thnk the doffing of the sports bra is as much of a workout as the actual workout!
So needless to say, I am quite interested in this line.
Thanks for the great giveaway, Miz.

December 22, 2009 at 4:02 pmLast time I wore sport bra(s) was in my indoor soccer league (Ah how I miss it, but the team fell apart. sigh.). I would usually wear two-three of em, in part for the compression, but also it helps avoid the elbow-to-the-breast pain.
Here’s the shameful/painful part >.>
that was oh…about a year and a half ago.
So when I go to the gym (2-3 times a week) I wear…
my daily underwire bra.
Not particularly comfortable would be an understatement.

December 22, 2009 at 4:08 pmOOooooh, yeah. I have one underarmour I splurged on a year ago that I can single-bra and everything else is a double bra affair. And I have some pretty wicked chafe marks around my cleavage pretty much permanently the last 2 months before a long race unless I’m diligent about the Vaseline (which this year I have not).
This is probably a TMI comment to match your TMI post. But in summary, *oh hell yes* I’d like to win. π

December 22, 2009 at 4:22 pmI am the most impossible to find sports bra size, also regular bra size, but why on earth are bras sold S, M, L? Seems highly ridiculous. Anyway, my poor triple layered sports bra gals would so appreciate something a little more supportive and well-fitting!

December 22, 2009 at 5:18 pmMy bra-story (history) first came when I was in college. Until then, I wore one sports bra and suffered during HS sports. Then in college I played rugby. And I needed TWO bras AND a supportive tank top to keep las ta-tas in place. I still use two bras when I’m running or doing cardio. I’m bigger busted and although they shrunk (a little), I still have to have LOTS of support. Otherwise it’s another excuse not to exercise.

December 22, 2009 at 6:28 pmI have never found a sports bra, or ANY bra for that matter, that is comfortable to work out in. I’ve tried dozens of sports bras and even doubled up. In the end, I’m stuck with the real bra plus sports bra combination. The rubbing and chafing is horrible – not to mention being poked by underwire constantly. Definitely not ideal, but it’s the only way to keep ‘the girls’ from giving me two black eyes!
Suzanne says
December 22, 2009 at 6:56 pmBig boobs? Try the Champion line – they have an underwire running bra that – ahem – sort of lifts and separates, but in a good way! Keeps the girls totally inert, no chafing, etc. The best thing? It comes in cup AND back sizes. I’m a 36 D – off the charts beyond a 2X according to kaos. I know others have commented on this as well, but mizfit? How can you support a company with such messed up sizing? Talk about giving someone body dysmorphia…

December 22, 2009 at 6:57 pmAmen Tracy! I have never EVER found a sports bra that fit OR didn’t fit but was at least comfortable.

December 22, 2009 at 7:10 pmPlease to omit me from the drawing – they don’t have my size. π
I wear a 42DD, and I’ve been very happy with the Glamorise Sport Max bra (less than $30 on JMS.com). It has front hooks, so it’s easy to get on & off, and I’ve found it to be very comfy and supportive. It’s the only bra I will wear for running and triathlon, although I use some of my other ones for other activities. No chafing, either. The only downsides are that it’s not attractive (if that’s an issue when you’re running), tends to look somwhat “uniboob”, and with the front hooks is probably not a good candidate for those who like to wear their sports bra on its own as a top. (I also tried the Glamorise Magic Lift Plus Active Support Bra; it worked for me for lower impact exercise and general use, and is less “uniboob”, but I’ve had it chafe my shoulders when running.)

I won’t tell you which one I’m in but I’ll hint that I need to go to two different schools in the morning to drop certain small people off.

December 23, 2009 at 9:46 amI always struggle to find one that fits snugly without being too tight. I also once had the misfortune to try out a sports bra that fit great but zipped up the front. December 23, 2009 at 12:45 pmLadies, I must say this has been some of the more interesting reading I have had in a long time. As the National Account Manager for KAOS, I have to say it has also been very insightful and educational for us as a company. Trust me when I say that all of your comments and concerns are being taken to heart. There seems to be lots of questions on the bra sizing. Hopefully this will help you all. XS=28-32 AA/A, S=32-34 A/B, M=34-36 B/C, L=36-38 C, XL=38-40 D/DD, XXL=40-42 DD. Good luck to all of you in the contest and we look forward to serving all of you.

December 23, 2009 at 2:30 pmMy biggest sports bra lament? That I’ve found ONE and only one sports bra that I can run in–and it’s over $50.
Why is it so hard to find a good, supportive sports bra in a DDD cup or larger? Womens’ fitness apparel manufacturers seem to be under the mistaken impression that women with …huge tracts of land don’t participate in any sort of high-impact activity.
Which, sadly, seems to include KAOS (no need to enter me in the drawing, obviously–they don’t make anything for my 38DDDs)
Second: they don’t seem to make anything else (except maybe the shorts) to fit me, either. I’m also not terribly eager to give money to a company that calls a size 10-12 “extra-extra large.”
I’ll stick with my good old Enell + cheap compression bra on top, thanks. It doesn’t completely kill the bounce but at least it holds ’em down to about a 2.5 on the Richter scale.
