Remember:
- Feet are a bit wider than shoulder-width for stance.
- Only lower your body until tops of thighs are parallel with ground.
- When you resume starting position do not lock out knees. Pause *briefly* and lower again (and again and again…).
- Always keep your midsection/core tight.

Where did my comment go?
Thanks for the reminder about these (and how to do them) I hadn’t thought about using my kettlebell!!
Ok I just did a few of these WITHOUT any weight and it killed my legs.
I also am stopping by to say that I think I’m the only one who has to go to work today π
Where did my comment go?
I giggle that I got up this morning and wordpress had lost its everlovingmind π published 2 random posts and then ate them (?).
So I republished.
could be an interesting day around here π
I found your youtube channel!!!!
Any thoughts on making a dvd for us?
I think people wouuld buy it and I would love to workout with you in my house.
Im going to fitbloggin!!!!
I love the plie squat. I feel so…ballerina-ish when I do them. π
I did these suckers yesterday with a dumbbell yesterday in my “home” gym. I went to jot it down in my journal and I could not for the life of me spell the word plie. Is that how you spell it??? Who knew?
It’s the tattoo-less Miz! Well…at least the Seuss-less tattoo-less Miz…
(call me quick: I get the “revisited” part…)
I love the plie’ squat! My poor inner thighs love it, too.
THANK YOU for explaining this, Miz.
Oh and I am with Rhonda (#5)
I would definitely buy a DVD.
Thanks for your hint hint. I’ve posted my list!
I have not done that exercise before, looks good, we should swap legs, yeah!
I wish I could do this but alas my knees say no. You look amazing and I think a DVD would be a great idea!
I watch my daughter do these in a pink tutu every Saturday at 10:30 – no wonder she’s tired after ballet.
Ah, Miz, I love these! I use them all the time in my leg workout! I squeeze my butt big time coming up too to get that work in there too! I vary the weight & also the items I hold.. dumbbell, weight plate, whatever I can get my hands on! π Sometimes I pulse at the squat position or even as I come up, I might go up onto my toes. This is what is great about weight training.. so many ways to do it!
I hope your readers love this move as much as we do!
You didn’t mention the burn that sets in once you get to rep 20 or so! Love that because it lets me know I’m really making it happen, so to speak.
I need to revisit some plie squats myself. Thanks for the video!
I love the pliet squat using one dumbbell like you do with the kettle bells. I have these on the list for my next strength program! Yay!
Wow girl your legs look awesome!!!! Thanks for reposting this. I haven’t worked with the kettle bells yet, but I’m sure it’ll be coming soon at the gym if my trainer has anything to say about it. π
I like the kettlebells! Have to get me some! Squats are my enemy and my friend! Love the vid!
I need to get me some of those – you always make everything look so easy π thanks for sharing, loved the video
and remember you can do this holding a dumbbell or DUMBELLs or SOUP CANS!
I’m in with the campbells chunky π
I don’t own a kettlebell. Will a teapot work just as well?
I’ll have to try these! The inner thighs need some work as no light shines through them π
This is a great variation on the squat! You look so natural and comfortable in the squat position that I really wonder if your strongstrong muscles actually feel it at all π
All the issues I have with my knees I thought there was no way I could do squats but I have learned to LOVE squats – lunges on the other hand are a NO GO!
Thanks for this variation on a squat and might I add…
you have the most AMAZING legs!!
Ooh, this looks fun! I shall try it today during my “at home, week without my trainer” workout!
These are my very most favorite-est squats to do. Sooo much easier on my poor deteriorating hips and knees than any other version. I, unlike my darling Cammy, do not feel ballerina-ish, though – more like a sumo wrestler. π

Oh, and the breakthrough tip that helped me learn to love squats? To always imagine lowering yourself backward into a chair. It helps me keep my weight centered where it’s supposed to be instead of pushing it too far forward where it will strain my knees. Changed my life. π

“Second position, grand plie!!”
Wait, sorry. I just had some flashbacks. π
Sometimes when I really don’t want to do any strength training, I plug in my iPod and run through a whole barre routine. There isn’t really anything super-great for my arms, but it’s a good leg workout, and a nice walk down memory lane.
Sounds like what I need. Thanks for the great demo.
Thanks for this one! I will add them into my lower body routine.
I envy how warm you look. My creaky knees are protesting the squats lately. Have to watch it. It’s snowing like crazy right now. I am extremely jealous of how warm it looks in your video right now.
I’d forgotten all about these π They’re on my to-do list!
I love pile squats. I love doing squats in general. They do an awesome job on my thighs!!
Also Mizfit, I wanted to say that I loved your photo in the January 2010 issue of Fitness Magazine!! You go girl!! π
Thanks for sharing Miz – this is something I might try to add in this upcoming year.
