FTC? My bands were FREE. The dizclaimers getting old. Yessiree.
Alas, there’s a bit of back-story to this review/giveaway, People.
Take a seat and I shall try to keep the yammerings to a minimum.
The owner of Rubberbanditz reached out to me when I was experiencing the grumps a smidge of blog malaise.
I was over reviewing products & was firmly ensconced (once again) in the steaming sh*tpile Id created.
I almost deleted his email without reading (Im nothing if not honest!) but I opened it & was entirely blown away.
The owner of the company’s message was clear, concise, humorous, and personalized.
It was evident he’d read MizFit prior to contacting me, knew the types of products I reviewed, and actually had one of these products to offer.
(It’s sad how truly rare these kinds of emails are. Im pitched on everything from diet pills to fancy books about crafting.)
Still, I tried to say no the the review.
He was tenacious, however, in such a funny & amazingly genuine way that I finally relented and said yes.
Not surprisingly, I’m glad that I did.
What did I like about Rubberbanditz?
- They are entirely as represented. Sturdy, easy to use, & come with a FANTASTIC workout guide for all levels. In addition, should a band break within a year of purchase Rubberbanditz will replace for free.
- They’re portable and inexpensive. As a mom whose best laid workout plans are frequently derailed by a Tornado I appreciate having a way to strength train at home. The price-piece speaks for itself. While you can purchase the bands separately if spending my own money Id at least invest in the basic package. 39.99 is a deal, in my opinion for bands, a door strap, hand grips, an exercise dvd, an exercise book, & a travel bag.
- They aren’t intimidating. When my parents started resistance training they were intimidated by free-weights & machines (not to mention the gym). While it’s important to focus on form when using Rubberbanditz–one reason I love the inclusion of an exercise DVD–it’s also a perfect introduction into the concept of resistance training using something with which we’re all already familiar.**
- The company does community outreach. This fact is really important to me both as a reviewer and a consumer. It speaks volumes, in my opinion, about a company & the people who run it. Rubberbanditz uses a portion of its proceeds to set up exercise band gyms in the developing world & help promote personal health & hygiene on a grassroots level (can you tell the owner served in the Peace Corps?).
- They are a green company. Any returned bands are donated for use in arts & crafts projects AND the exercise manual may be downloaded (for 5% off purchase price) instead of received as hard copy as well.
What didn’t I enjoy about my Rubberbanditz experience (Im reaching here, People, as my entire experience from first contact to product was stellar)?
- They should update their blog more. Or perhaps I should update less? Please to talk amongst yourselves about that one.
- Im not featured on their testimonial page. Whats that? I never sent one in? Oh. Please to disregard…
Bottom line is I love resistance bands (for all the reasons detailed above) & I adored these & Rubberbanditz as a whole.
And yes.
Here’s where you cease the skimmage & can entire to win your own Rubberbanditz basic band package as pictured below:
How might you use the bands should you be lucky enough to win?
Be honest. Be creative. Be silly. Be snarky. Be blunt.
Please to hit us all up in the comments.

February 4, 2010 at 2:17 amPro – definitely makes working out easier as I could loop the bands around the balcony fence and get some AWESOME resistance going. I’d also freak our neighbourhood kindergarten kids out by seeming to bounce. There’s so much more you can DO with resistance bands and the starter pack sounds awesome.
Con – I can’t win. They should make their giveaways WORLDWIDE. Do you think it’s too late to drop hints to the Boy that this would be a better Valentine’s Day gift than chocolates?
I’m a BIG fan of often-updated blogs. If you or your company has a blog, update, update, update. Nothing worse than finding a blog and seeing that the last update was months ago.

February 4, 2010 at 3:08 amAw, man, I am with Gemfit! When are these companies going to realize that other parts of the world would love the chance to try their amazing product too? *sulks* Okay, I’m done! Loved your podcast today, Miz!!!

February 4, 2010 at 3:20 amI’m saving money by not going to the gym with my husband. He does a lot of stuff that even several years worth of memberships could not pay for, but I’m okay at home 🙂 But, my husband saw the Gold’s Gym “Tube kit” that is the same idea as this, and bought it for me.
Let me tell you, I do NOT like it. The directions are horrid, the DVD didn’t work for some reason, and they don’t come with door straps. Maybe I just got a bad batch, but I’m pretty sure at $18, we got what we paid for.
Anyway, I really like the exercises you can do with these, I’m glad there are better companies out there making a better product. I would use these after my run to work out the muscles that are just slacking off while running 😉 I can’t have these skinny string bean arms forever!!

February 4, 2010 at 3:43 amThose look like so much fun!! I really love resistance training bands. They are so versatile.

February 4, 2010 at 4:33 amWow I’ve never heard of them. I’m a huge fan of resistance bands. I’m so used to Spri. These look wider though so I can use them to help with stretches after running.

February 4, 2010 at 4:33 amI would use them to continue to build fabulous muscles. I am loving doing strength training three times a week. My body is starting to shift…
Cindie says
February 4, 2010 at 4:36 amI would definitely use these. I don’t belong to a gym. I do all my workouts in my basement. I had something similar to this and just gave it to my mom for a birthday present! She loved it by the way. She and I just lost a total of about 150 lbs, so for every holiday I send her a little bit of my workout equipment. I hope to get it back piece by piece some day, as she gets overloaded with all my stuff! If I win maybe she will get lucky and get to use my Rubberbanditz too!
Lesley says
February 4, 2010 at 5:38 amI would use these one days when I could not make it to the gym. My gym does not offer child care so if my hubby has to work late or out of town going to the gym is not always possible. It would also be nice on those cold snowy days when leaving the house is no fun.
Melissa says
February 4, 2010 at 5:46 amI could really use something like this~ With a baby at home going to the gym is difficult. I can get all the cardio in the world in at my humble abode but have been having a hard time with strength. These would be great!

February 4, 2010 at 6:06 amI am a runner. And sometimes I do yoga. But really, I only “practice” yoga to fit some sort of strengthening routine in between my runs. The yoga that I do is downloaded and projected from the glowing light of my computer screen. Not that fun.
Right now, I cannot afford gym membership, a personal set of free weights, stretchy rubber bandy things, or even a simple foam roller to roll out my fabulous IT band post run. Actually, I guess I could afford a foam roller, but that new restaurant around the corner is calling my name…
Anyway, this would be the introduction to resistance training that I so desire.

February 4, 2010 at 6:11 amYa have to LOVE the name of this product!! After reading (yes reading) your post and checking out the Rubberbanditz site I HAVE to have these bands! Anyone who knows me knows how clueless I am when it comes to strength training and knows how much I love videos to follow – so this is for ME!
** This week, I am starting a girl’s fitness/life skills class at school and I think these bands would be perfect to use with the class.
Oh, and by the way Miz, you are sort of an inspiration for me starting this class with the girls at school! Thanks!

February 4, 2010 at 6:34 amI would love to have these bands, because sometimes I don’t want to go to the gym just to lift weights; and I don’t have room at home if I bought my own. Driving to the gym can be a hassle. When I’m ready to work out, I’m ready right then. Having the bands at home would be awesome!
Marisa (Loser for Life) says
February 4, 2010 at 6:35 amI might use these bands to try and bungee jump off my roof. I always wanted to walk on the wild side…
You said CREATIVE! 😉

February 4, 2010 at 6:36 amOOOOH, look at the pretty colors! I’d actually USE them. I could even find them because of the color contrast to my blue living room. We occasionally use resistance bands in boot camp, and they provide a dynamite work out. They would be perfect to throw in my suitcase when I visit my mom. And I bet I could get my son to use them; he refuses to go to the gym, but he does some stuff at home.
South Beach Steve says
February 4, 2010 at 6:36 amI have been curious about these bands for a while, wondering if they were all that. I am working on strength training, but my current exercise set is simply body weight exercises. Perhaps this would be a good addition.

February 4, 2010 at 7:20 amI used resistance bands for stretching purposes for the many, many years I was a ballerina.
Those resistance bands have since gone missing.. I’ve never thought of them as an “exercise” source, though, so I’d love to experiment with them!

February 4, 2010 at 7:22 amI would use them to set up a plyometrics workout

February 4, 2010 at 7:32 amHow would I use the bands… in every possible way I can think of to play the resistance game! I love building muscles & this is just another way to keep the bod guessing. I can use them at home for some of my home workouts AND take them to the gym too for more fun!!!!
OR, mmmmmmmmmmmmm, can I talk about the bedroom on this blog… best not! 🙂

February 4, 2010 at 7:37 amI’m a total newbie to working out; am currently slowly doing body-weight exercises. I NEED these….pretty pretty pretty please. I want to FINALLY get in shape. To let you know how bad it is, my goal is to be able to do 1 pull-up this year. I have never in my life been able to do even that. Love your blog and great giveaway.

February 4, 2010 at 7:40 ami’m really happy with how my gams are looking these days, but my arms still only have a little bit of muscle … and quite a bit of under-arm flip flop. these rubberbanditz would make waving to friends and dancing around less jiggly.

February 4, 2010 at 7:57 amSounds like a great company…the greenness and the community outreach aspect.
I don’t have the discipline to work out by myself, I will use it with DVD workouts.
bjbella5 says
February 4, 2010 at 7:58 amWould love a set. I have one band I use when I workout at home.
For creativity, hmmm, I once tried doing sitting rows by using the refrigerator door handles for a base, wrapping the band through several times. But alas, the door kept opening. Though it did make getting into the fridge more difficult. 😉
Rebecca says
February 4, 2010 at 7:58 amLast summer I completed a fitness program that used solely resistance bands for the weight training component. I saw such great results!! After the program was completed I picked up some cheap bands that shortly thereafter broke. I’m a college student that doesn’t have a lot of money and therefore work out in my basement with a treadmill and workout videos. I would LOVE to be able to add resistance training w/these bands back in to my routine!!!
Lori says
February 4, 2010 at 7:59 amI would get my husband doing a workout and prove to him that “yes, those little bands can cause that much pain!” They would be great to use on time crunched weekends and to take away on holidays!

February 4, 2010 at 8:06 amThese will be a great way to get extra training in for the marathon i’m running in May!!

February 4, 2010 at 8:09 amI’ve never tried to use resistance bands because frankly, they look pretty silly. But were I to get a set for free I’d definitely feel obligated to take them seriously for at least three weeks.
Jules - Big Girl Bombshell says
February 4, 2010 at 8:24 amI can add them to my collection in the corner in my exercise space. Then I could tie one to the door handle and the other around my waist to keep me trapped until I actually use them as they are intended.
Or I could put it around my waist and snap myself with it each time I needed to be reminded that I NEED to exercise!
messymimi says
February 4, 2010 at 8:27 amI can promise you this: If I cannot come up with creative ways to use, misuse, and outright abuse these things, my #2 Son, the 13 year boy, will do so. He and his friends can have creative fun with anything, and I’ll bet I’ll get just as much exercise tracking him — and the bands — down as I will using them for their intended purposes.
Jenn @ Watch My Butt Shrink! says
February 4, 2010 at 8:37 amWell, since there are several bands in the package, I can use one to loosely tie up my two girls. In the time it takes them to break out, I could get a serious workout in with the other bands! 🙂
These look AWESOME, and considering my gym up and split (closed their doors forever) – I could use something like this to workout at home.
Kyle says
February 4, 2010 at 8:38 amSimply put, my wife and I will be at Canyonlands National Park for 6 months starting early spring. I will not have access to a gym. Our housing is likely our 31ft travel trailer and there is NOOOOO room for extra fitness gear.
I’d also like to consider the P90X program (less the pullup bar) and I need me some bands baby!
Brandi says
February 4, 2010 at 8:46 amI would totally use those at home and I would use them as I begin personal training my friends. I have so many girlfriends trying to lose weight for weddings at the end of the year (that’s me…the bridesmaid but never a bride haha) so I’ve put together SO SO SO many workout plans.
These would be GREAT to have to help them with their home routines!
Thanks for the opportunity!

February 4, 2010 at 8:47 amI’d use these bands to help rehab my injured knees. I used bands like this in physical therapy to strengthen the muscles in my knee, and they were great!
Marste says
February 4, 2010 at 8:48 amOoo, NEAT! I would love some bands so that I could do more *coughANYcough* resistance training. Because let’s be honest here: I’m just not likely to do it in the gym. I’m WAY more likely to do it on the living room floor while I watch NCIS.
Jody says
February 4, 2010 at 9:02 amI work from home and during the day when I’m on conference calls I like to get up and move around. I could set this up and could do some serious multi-tasking, as long as I’m on mute of course.

Sorry, it had to be said.
More likely, I’d use them for their actual intended purpose. SO boring, I know. Although I second Debby’s comment about the pajamas. Pajama workout = awesome.

February 4, 2010 at 9:43 amhmmm, bands….
Sadly enough, since I’m injured right now, resistance training is all I have to hang my hat on, as I can’t be jumping around. Resistance bands would keep me from having to go out to exercise, and I could workout at home! 😀
Kelly says
February 4, 2010 at 9:44 amOMG, I would LOVE to have these. We like to travel a bit (not far away but still). Camping, hotels, parents, etc. I’m trying to incorporate more exercise into my life but I hit a wall when I’m away from home! I go into vapor lock. Yeah, I could go for a walk (and I do) but what about strength? I would so LOVE to have these with me! Plus it would be nice to vary exercises at home.
If that doesn’t work I bet they could put a naughty husband in a world of hurt. That’s a pretty big rubber band to be smacked with!
Heather (Heather's Dish) says
February 4, 2010 at 9:50 ami’d love to use these in addition to my free weights for at-home strength training since i can’t afford a gym right now!
Beth says
February 4, 2010 at 10:00 amOk, you said to be honest…the most use for these will be my 4 year old working out with me. He loves to do exercises and to have more than one band in our house would be SO USEFUL!
And the TRUE reason I’d love to win would be because I’m travelling to Portland Oregon in 6 weeks and I would love to have something portable like these to take with me. A way to workout in my hotel room before my day full of conferences.
Lyn says
February 4, 2010 at 10:17 amYou don’t need to enter me to win the bands, because I bought some bands at Walmart and you would not believe the projectiles flying around my neighborhood when my teenaged sons decided to use them to make a giant slingshot.

February 4, 2010 at 10:36 amI’d love to win these – and would be interested to see if the door do-hickey works better than the one attached to the tube I bought at my local Academy…that one had a sudden detachment and wapped (is that a word?) me in the head!

February 4, 2010 at 12:00 pmHello – I just put my hand up. Yes Please!
Poor me, I have a terrible life. During the spring, summer and autumn months I’m drug out on our 31ft sailboat by my husband every weekend. Actually it’s great and it’s a wonderful way of getting away from the hustle and craziness of the city. What I miss on the weekend is my training. Sure I can get a run in but it’s challenging to get in strength training – squats on a bosu ball is nothing compared to squats on a boat.
This kit would be PERFECT to wrap around cleats and stays and pull away.

February 4, 2010 at 8:02 pmHey! These are awesome! Honestly, I never heard of them until now. I have heard other resistance bands, but they were thin, and cheaply made. I tried one once (one of the thin flat ones) and it snapped slapping me in the face with what was left. *I can laugh now, but wasn’t then*
If I had these, I could use these at work….I’d sneak in the bathroom and get a quick strength workout in with these!!! 🙂

February 4, 2010 at 11:08 pmWow.
Just before my Amber went back to the Peace Corps in January (after a holiday visit), we hauled ourselves over to wally world and picked her up a pair of therabands/resistabands.
Now if I received these rubberbanditz (after I thoroughly studied them of course), I send them to her, in her next care package to Mongolia. Wouldn’t that be a hoot, that a Peace Corps dude, would benefit another Peace Corps volunteer? (and she might stay a third year!!)

February 4, 2010 at 11:13 pmWell they look fabulous…but I would be terribly afraid that I’d have it under my foot while pulling up and POW! I now have a black eye! Cuz I’m crazy coordinated!! Just sayin…

February 4, 2010 at 11:27 pmI really , really need them. My version your Tornado, I call her the little ski princess, has missed 20 plus days of school thus far. As a parent I should be talking about all the quality education that she is missing with these random and frequent illnesses. And yes we had the swine flu, too. But NO it is not the education that concerns me it the missed workouts. I do have a fabulous gym that I frequently go to. But when the sniffle/fever/stomach flu… hits the little p I’m stuck at home. With these bands I could continue on my quest to be super buff and still tend to my sick child. Thus not getting arrest for child abandonment or neglect. Does anyone know how long you can legally leave a 10 year old at home alone? Just curious…. I guess if I really had to go to the gym and little ski princess was under the weather, I could use the Rubberbanditz to tie her to something to keep her safe while I was gone. Or I could just stay home. Please help me to be a better parent and send me the Rubberbanditz. xoxo

February 4, 2010 at 11:28 pmIf I am lucky enough to win, these puppies will be set up in my office! There are days when I plan to sneak away for a workout but the you-know-what hits the you-know-where and getting to the gym is out of the question. This would be a great replacement for me on those days, and when traveling. Me please!

February 5, 2010 at 12:43 amI would use them to fling my overgrooming cat out the door. Sometimes. Ok, that probably wouldn’t work anyway.
I have a jam packed schedule and it’s easy for me to do my workout at home. My resistance bands from WalMart are falling apart, so in the name of safety, I need new reliable rubber stretchy devices!!

February 5, 2010 at 1:43 amI would use them… carefully. I don’t trust myself not to snap myself in the face with them! But it does seem a much better option than buying lots of weights.

February 5, 2010 at 8:17 amI would totally use these, I am trying to do circuit training now and they would really help me. I would even lend them to my husband; he travels A LOT and he would definitely use them. So you would get two for one in this household!

February 5, 2010 at 11:28 amI do all my workouts at home; I’ve lost 65lbs all at home, no gym! My bands came from the “dollar” section at Target — I’m sure they could use an upgrade. Throw my name in the hat, please. 😉

February 5, 2010 at 12:17 pmIf I win these bans, I’d use them to exercise in hotel rooms. I’d also use them in ways that aren’t fit to print on a family blog. ;-0

February 5, 2010 at 5:24 pmI would take up traveling just so I could make the best use of these bands. And with the money I saved not going to the the gym, I could travel near and far. (Okay, mostly near.)

February 5, 2010 at 7:28 pmIf I should be fortunate to win these, I would be sending them to my daughter. She’s been wanting something like this and now (in the middle of a divorce) does not have the resources to get them. She would so love a set of these. And I would so love to be able to give them to her.

February 6, 2010 at 7:20 amI wonder if I could use them to tie myself just out of reach of the red velvet cake?

August 27, 2010 at 7:06 pmBe sill & blunt.. in the bedroom! Oh yes, old people have fun 😉
Truthfully, I would take them to the gym with me & create all kinds of new ways to work my bod & at home, the same. I am all about weights & lifting & that includes the use of bands & all kinds of other equipment to change it up & “Make it happen” as the Project Runway saying goes!!
I love what this company stands for MizFit! Thank you so much for introducing them to us & cool that they came to you and had actually READ your blog.. LOVE IT!!!
