One upon a time, in a land far far away there lived a MizFit.
A gluten-free MizFit but a misfit who adored her some meateggssoyandCOOKEDFOOD.
A misfit who erroneously thought she’d not be a fan of anything, well, Pure2Raw.
Then this naive MizFit traveled to Fitbloggin10, met a set of fabulous twins & had GENEROUS opportunity to sample aforementioned rawtreats.
She mind was instantaneously & permanently changed.
The rest is, as they say, IMMEDIATELY-begged-for-a-guest-post history.
Hello MizFit readers,
We would first like to thank Carla for letting us be a guest on her site. We had the honor to meet MizFit at Fitbloggin, and what an amazing lady! We are thrilled and honored to share our story of starting up our company, Twin Cakes Bakery/Pure2raw.
First we are the Pure2raw twins. We are fraternal twins who happen to be best friends, business partners, and roommates. On blog is where we share our journey of living the raw foods lifestyle. We are passionate about health, fitness, and creating recipes that we share on our blog.
How did Twin Cakes Bakery get started?
We have always loved baking and entertaining. Growing up we have struggled with some health issues and never really got better as we got older. We took it upon ourselves (the entrepreneurial spirit in us) to figure out why we were sick. We started to realize that what were eating was making us sick, so we took most of the common allergens out of our diet. (we share more of our story on our blog) As we started to realize the food allergies we suffer from, our older sister was showing similar symptoms. So over time we have helped her transition to this lifestyle of eating high raw gluten free diet, among other things.
We took some of the recipes we grew up with and made the free of gluten, dairy, sugar, soy, peanut, eggs, and corn. It was a long journey to get our bakery where it is today. We had a lot of trial and errors with recipes and finding the best quality ingredients we like in our products. We wanted to offer products that any one could eat and enjoy it! Our bakery’s main online store is www.twincakesbakery.com This allows others who do no live locally to still be able to receive our products. Our online bakery features our dry mixes and our raw foods product line. We will be constantly adding more information and more products as well as working on a cookbook.
What is Pure2raw?
It is our raw foods product line. Raw foods are consider living foods, where nothing has been baked over 115 degrees so all the nutrients and enzymes remain intact making the food easier to digest. Raw foods are full of flavor and contain all the vitamins and minerals to give you energy. We created our raw food products for people on the go, athletes, busy moms, and even kids. It is a great way to incorporate healthy snacks into one’s lifestyle.
On our blog, we want to show others that eating what sounds like a limiting diet is not limiting at all. Eating a raw foods diet we have never felt deprived. On Pure2raw we hope to inspire others to just to be more open-minded and realize labels do not truly resemble what that lifestyle is all about. We show how we maintain a balanced life through eating well and exercise, and still having fun and enjoy life’s pleasures. We not 100% perfect, just realize our bodies thrive when we eat a more clean diet that happens to be mostly raw.
Hope you stop by and say hello!
Thank you again MizFit!!
xoxo

April 7, 2010 at 3:21 amLove the blog and the philosophy. I went raw a while back and still maintain about a 70% raw diet – it just feels good. It’s also nice to see some SAVORY raw goodies on the market – Lara Bars and yummy but way too sweet for my salt tooth. Those Swiss Chard Black Sesame Seed Flatbread
sound scrumptious!

April 7, 2010 at 3:45 amJohn & I are almost at our one-year mark of being gluten-free and it’s always exciting to find new (or at least new-to-me) shops & folks to follow! (Online, of course … not in person. That would be freaky and stalkerish.)

April 7, 2010 at 6:15 amI admire you two beauties for 2 reasons:
1. The ability to go into business with a family member AND remain friends.
2. Building a meaningful business.
I admire you both and wish you all the success in the world! Now I’m off to check out your site! See you there!

April 7, 2010 at 6:52 amFor me, eating raw is very seasonal. In spring and summer, I naturally gravitate toward raw food; smoothies, salads, fruit, etc.
But when the weather is cold, that’s when I want thick stews and curries with sweet potatoes, sauteed onions and chunks of meat! Raw, heated up soup doesn’t do it for me.

April 7, 2010 at 7:03 amThe raw foodstuffs look enticing and I’d love to try them, but I can’t seem to find the nutritional information anywhere. Are there plans to release that info?!
Miz says
April 7, 2010 at 7:05 amI know there is a plan for the nutritional info to be listed. They need to jump few some fda hoops first I believe. Ill see if I can get them to answer this for you….

April 7, 2010 at 7:18 amSince I went raw for the month of January, I’ve been really curious about other people who live the lifestyle… that’s awesome that they sell raw food products from their bakery!

April 7, 2010 at 7:23 amI really admire the fact that you took your health into your own hands. So many people would have sat back and complained and let their health deteriorate. It’s great you’ve turned the whole experience into something positive. I don’t eat raw, but I wish you nothing but success!

April 7, 2010 at 9:21 amA gym I used to work at had a raw cafe in the lobby, and it was heavenly!!!! Then they changed to a typical cafe and I lost my classes there. (Coincidence? Hmmmm…)
I don’t only eat a raw diet, but really enjoy raw food. ANd when there are macaroons involved? Woo-hoo! I am SO there!

April 7, 2010 at 11:33 amI can’t imagine how much healthier America would be if they just at more raw some of the time. I was happy to hear your story and I am glad there are people out there trying to make better and healthier food for everyone. Because we sure need it. I hope your blog is wildly successful so more people can learn about what you are doing.

April 7, 2010 at 11:45 amSee- I’m kinda the opposite. I think I would ADORE raw food (indeed I’ve the loved the dishes I’ve tried) but I really want someone else to do all the prep work for me:) I really don’t love cooking or “cooking” so I’m afraid a raw diet would just end up being crudites for me. Love the twins! I’d love to try out some of their stuff – it sounds delish.
