As I mentioned so subtly here Ive decided to run another half-marathon.
This proclamation was made much to the shock of Ren Man and, quite frankly, to myself as well.
The thing is I wanna give this whole race experience another try.
The Disney Princess half marathon was my first race ever and, on top of that, I received the invitation with only about five weeks to train.
(There was no way I was declining the invite, but the equation above definitely did not set this misfit up for success.ย Iย was grateful simply to have made it through the whole shebang without injury.)
And, since we’re coming clean about all of our past transgressions (because we are, arent we?), here’s where I fully admitย I ran only five a handful of times before the race and never outside.
Yada yada yada Im ready to try it again so when Leah suggested we train together virtually I finally caved leaped at the chance.
She & I are still hammering out the details–but here’s where we are as of today:
- We’re running the Rock & Roll half-marathon in Las Vegas on December 5th
- I long for as many of you as possible to join me there physically but realize, unless I find us a Splenda Daddy, this may be cost prohibitive.
- You may be thinking: You crazy, Miz.ย Running is NOT my thing. Please to make note of the fact this race ROCKS for those who wish to walk a halfmarathon.
- More than anything I want to drag the collective you along for the ride of making December 5th a day of goal achievement. Run your own personal half-marathon on a treadmill or in your ‘hood, find a 5k race to walk or run on 12.5, focus on making December 5th the day you walk further than you ever have before—you get the idea.ย Join me virtually on 12.5.10 for a day of ACHIEVEMENT however you choose to define it.
- Ill be posting about my training experiences, seeking *your input* on all things running/walking/stretching/CARDIOing (here’s where you pitch yourself, People!) & generally nagging cheering you all onward as we march together toward December 5th.
- Id love for you to let me know if you’re joining me. Whether it’s literally in Vegas or virtually in any fashion.ย Email me, tweet me, blog about it & send me the link.ย In addition, for those of you on Twitter we’ve created a hashtag so you can follow each other & us as we whine our way through this whole shebang.ย The hashtag is #MizBooRun( which makes this blogger giggle as, if said aloud, it sounds quite close to MISERABLE RUN.)
- Lastly, there’s a reason I’m wearing a runningDRESS in the video-snippet above.ย Another big motivator behind VEGAS as localeย is Ren Man & I plan to renew our vows that weekend (I plan to convince him it should be an all blogger/blog-readers invited event. When I share with you the deets of our FIRST wedding you’ll see why chances are he’ll agree).ย I have delusions of being married as I stagger across the finish line (oooh, or this?)…but we’ll see.
So that’s the plan & Id love love love for you to join me in my new found goal date of 12/05/10.
Are you in?
Ready to git to it & set a SMART goal for almost six months down the road?
Have some goal-ideas & wanna comment’versate about em?
Longing to hear more about Ren Man & my first nuptials?
Please to hit us all up in the comments.
Edited to say: For some reason the formatting is wonked (technical term) if you view this post from homepage and not comments page.ย Im fixing…

June 14, 2010 at 2:37 amMiz, you will know by end of August if I will be in Vegas. Finding out test schedule then planning my run! It’ll be perfect because I need to train for my Full (11.13.10). If I can’t be there, I will run a virtual race with you.
Andddd, here’s to VFFs ๐
By the way, I don’t care what they say about Vegas being “warm”, it’s going to be freezing cold in the early morning in December. Deserts do not fare well at night. So bring lots of layers aka gloves and princess beanie.
Gemfit says
June 14, 2010 at 2:41 amI sadly won’t be able to join you in Vegas but I’ll figure something else out to virtually join you. I think I could aim for a virtual 5k around my ‘hood. How’s that for a plan?
I think you should renew your vows with a webcam present so we can all watch and be there!

June 14, 2010 at 4:13 amI have to say, I am SERIOUSLY thinking that there will be a Fatass and her Trophy Husband crossing the finish with you! He loves the idea of Vegas in December, as do I. June 14, 2010 at 8:35 amhmm, very interesting proposal. can’t believe it but it IS making me think about running–I do miss aspects of it, but during the summer, REALLY wish there was a good gym I could join ’cause it’s AMAzingly HOT here (over 100 deg.). You are making me think about it though… I heard there was a new owner at the ONE gym in our tiny town. Maybe I need to investigate… =)
ps layout looks fine, but I’d ask folks who see “smooshy” what browser they are using (and what version if they know). I’m using firefox (3.6.3) and it looks dandy.

June 14, 2010 at 8:48 amI would LOVE to do this race! It sounds like a really fun race, and it would be awesome to get to meet a bunch of fellow bloggers all at once. The main thing that could hold me back is cost, since I’m coming from Alaska. I have some frequent flyer miles I could cash in and likely get the ticket for free. Then maybe I can find someone to split a room with.
The whole renewing your vows thing is awesome. That’s really cool that they actually have something set up during the race, that would be a pretty unique way of doing it! I already told you on Twitter, but my wife and I renewed our vows in Vegas a few years back. In true Vegas style, it was done by an Elvis impersonator. He was definitely from the “thin” Elvis years, and my sister-in-law had quite the crush on him ๐
This run is something I’d really love to do, and I’m going to start working my magic to see if I can make it happen!

June 14, 2010 at 9:00 amIf I ever reach my Final Goal Weight, that includes an immediate, spontaneous trip to Las Vegas! If I can shed these last 20 pounds by December 5th, perhaps I can see you in Vegas!!!
At any rate, I put the event on my calendar and I hope to run the half marathon with you, even if it means running it on the treadmill at the gym. So…consider me in!
In the meantime, I haven’t got the slightest freaking idea how to train for such an event. Please offer training tips for the running-dummy like me.

June 30, 2010 at 8:05 pmCongrats on your first half marathon. I did four half marathons in two years and loved it. It does take a LOT of time to train though. July 14, 2010 at 5:35 amGood morning. Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting on the heat. Yes, I usually run at 6 am or so. Just had a change of plans yesterday. When I start back at work in August, a lot of my short runs will have to be on the treadmill. This heat is yucky!

August 2, 2010 at 12:24 pmI may be in. I was just looking at the ad for this race in runners world and thought I’d love to do this. I just need the doc to clear me for running. Crossing my fingers!

August 18, 2010 at 10:34 amWow! This is such a cool thing to do. Well, count me in virtually. I want to do the half marathon with you and everybody else joining in my own little way here in Manila. This is such a cool thing to promote Miz! Let’s go and train more, spread the word and recruit more mizFITS!
