Today Im neither writing about a new fitness trend nor cajoling others to GIT TO IT!
Today Im neither fretting about giveaways & nor yammering lovingly about setting an example for our children.
Today.
This morning.
Right now.
Im bring my excuse-laden arse to the kitchen and choosing to do an exercise I love…to hate.
Im lunging.
Please to join me?
I’ll save you a hand towel…
(Later in our morning) UPDATE.
Mimicking? Mocking? It’s such a fine fine line.

August 31, 2010 at 4:37 amHave you thought about making a home workout dvd?
Is there a place where all your videos are?
I’m a new fan.
Sarah @ Low Stress Weight Loss says
August 31, 2010 at 4:52 amThat looks like it could be fun to do with kids too – and if the kitchen floor starts off dirty… double-benefits!

August 31, 2010 at 4:54 amTell me that the Tornado joins in and that you SCRUBBED your floors for us π

August 31, 2010 at 5:42 amI did 10 on each leg. My son wants to have me committed. He thinks I’m crazy. I think he’s right.

August 31, 2010 at 5:53 amGreat! Another exercise to add to my ‘traveling’ repertoir. Most hotel bathrooms will have enough room to do that. LOVE the Tornado’s interpretation. My form is a little similar to hers at times.
Bea says
August 31, 2010 at 5:55 amAnd no excuses for not working out today π
I did these to music and felt them in my legs and heart rate.

August 31, 2010 at 6:03 amYes, Ma’am. I don’t like lunges, either. I consider them penance, but if you can do them, I can also.
MizFit says
August 31, 2010 at 6:18 amI laughed when a friend (in real life-friend) tweeted at me this morning that, judging by my videos one would think I only lunged at the grocery or at home.
I told her INDEED SHE WOULD BE CORRECT.
At the gym lunging for me plops the WORK back in WORKOUT.

August 31, 2010 at 6:13 amMy quads hurt just watching your lunge! I will try these next week – I’m intrigued by the towel idea – but for now, my quads are on a lunge break.
Tornado is fun as always… π

August 31, 2010 at 6:30 amMy friend Adam who is just off major knee surgery had to do lunges in rehab. When the therapist told him to do them, he gave the guy the stink-eye and proclaimed:
I’m a trainer. I MAKE people do lunges, I don’t do them myself.
After the therapist made him do his lunges – he called me and apologized for making me do about 100 throughout a 1 hour workout.
At home, I’ve been known to lunge back and forth across my deck (40′) throughout the day. But why ruin a pleasant day in the sunshine with lunges?
Jody - Fit at 52 says
August 31, 2010 at 6:39 amGot to love the lunges for what they do for the bod!! Tornado.. toooooo cute!
Emergefit says
August 31, 2010 at 6:39 amTwo things I always like to add to the conversation when it comes to lunges are:
A) They are more than an exercise, they are also a life-skill.
B) Really, lunges are just a 1-legged squat. When put in that context, people tend to do with with greater focus and increased concentration.
BTW: Blair Witch wasn’t so bad π
Syl says
August 31, 2010 at 6:59 amMiz, you put Jillian to shame – seriously!
Sagan says
August 31, 2010 at 7:14 amYou have such a pretty kitchen. I love the idea of the sliding lunge.
Come on, now. Be honest. Is there a blooper reel to this video where you slipped mid-lunge? π (I just KNOW that my attempts at a sliding lunge would wind up with me toppling over in a very ungraceful, unladylike fashion!)
Hannah says
August 31, 2010 at 7:26 amI <3 lunging. There must be something wrong with me. My goal last summer was to be able to do a football field from one end zone to the other and back. I barely made it, but felt so freaking awesome and couldn't walk right for days! I will try these today!
Yum Yucky says
August 31, 2010 at 8:40 amTornado has perfect technique – no “knee past the toe” action going on. You’ve taught her well.

August 31, 2010 at 9:32 amOh my god. I thought I was the only one who did kitchen core. I do sets between chopping, stirring and tasting! Awesome!

August 31, 2010 at 10:00 amYou are such a great example to your daughter! I can totally envision you having an early morning workout show on Nickelodeon/Disney Channel! Wouldn’t that be awesome?! You AND the tornado! “Workin’ Out With The Mizfits”!!!!! Pitch… fun Seuss-style workout with read-aloud cooldown (you reading your children’s books, of course)!
A total hit, right?! π

August 31, 2010 at 2:38 pmIt’s weird, I can hardly see the leg-sleeve in this video. For some reason I thought it was more prominent.
My trainer made me do lunges one of our first sessions and I almost didn’t get back up from one. Now I can do more of them, but I don’t like them any better.
Julie says
August 31, 2010 at 4:50 pmYes, I agree with Gretchen! I keep looking for the Suess! π

August 31, 2010 at 10:59 pmLunges. *shudder* It’s been a while.
I’m okay with walking lunges, but with stationary lunges, I always feel like my form is off.
Maybe I will try these…but probably not unless you come to my kitchen and MAKE me.
Ugh. Lower body. Meh.

September 3, 2010 at 3:05 pmI just came across your health and fitness blog. Your article about lunging and your videos included were especially interesting. I especially liked your comments about how to use the kitchen towel to aid in the lunge process. I am adding you to my favorites. We’re in the same industry, the business of encouraging health and fitness. We market a product called The AbStand: http://www.theabstand.net. We would love for you and your readers to check out our ab workout product. Any feedback would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
