OK.
You know better than to expect from this misfit a Six ways to lose weight in 2011 kind of post–right?
Im a loner, Dottie.
A rebel.
(Please to raise your hand if you knew immediately the movie to which Im referring.)
Today is the day we—the royal, nameless, faceless media we— are meant to exploit the vast insecurity & motivation on the ‘net, blog something chock full of SEO (?) & promises, and sit back and wait for the hits to roll in.
You know better than to expect from me any knowledge of SEO or desire to exploit my Tribe.
Today’s post is something I decided to do for myself and, as always, you are being dragged along for the proverbial ride.
When I worked as a career counselor (Greetings masters degree I never use!) I frequently employed the Obituary Exercise with clients.
This year, to kick off 2011, I decided to do a shortened/tweaked version of that concept for myself (I dont do resolutions).
I stopped & pondered:
If it were 12.31.11 what would my *biggest* healthy living accomplishment from the past year have been?
(I know, Law of Attraction much? Im a believer.)
My answer?
I found the ever elusive harmony in my workout life. I discovered how to OM, STRETCH, LIFT & PLAY enough to keep the booty-pain at bay and train for another half-marathon.
I typed the sentence above into my computer using BIG ASS FONT SIZE, printed it out, framed it and immediately hung it on my office wall.
(dramatic pause which serves as gentle segue into the fact I dont possess mad technical skills)
And then I tossed the same question at you.
And you know you love me.
Seriously what would you do if I launched 2011 possessing the knowledge of how to make my screen-shots readable size?
Please to enjoy a smattering of your thoughts and CLICK upon them to enlarge the size:
And now the here-right-now-reading-you.
Typed in red so you know how important I think this is whether you chime in below or merely write sentence(s) for your eyes only.
If today were 12.31.11 & you were reflecting back on the year whats the BIGGEST healthy-living accomplishment you would have achieved in the previous 365 days?
Write it. Print it. OWN IT. LIVE IT. ATTRACT IT.
Oh, and please to hit us all up—or not—–below.

January 3, 2011 at 2:08 amHello! I’m delurking after a painfully long time to say that my accomplishment for 2011 is going to be my first-ever 10K!
You’ve inspired me (who never thought I could run again thanks to a chronic pain condition) and my dad (post-hip replacement) to take up running this year! Since we live on different continents, we’re meeting up in September for our big race!
Thanks for everything you do! Hope you have a rockin’ (and pain-free) New Year!

January 3, 2011 at 6:19 amLooking back on 2011 from 2012 I would want to see the following:
1- I had an impact on people through Marathon Makeover and changed their lives forever. Showed them that a healthy lifestyle is not impossible and is actually quite fun.
2- I did not take one training day for granted. I completed each session with passion and had fun doing it.
3- I smile everyday regardless of how the day went.
Thank you for this post it was amazing.

January 3, 2011 at 7:02 amAs 2012 approaches, I will reflect on how proud I am for moving further along my path toward mending a tattered relationship with food. Throughout 2010, I made great progress. And in 2011, I solidified that progress on the inside, and it was reflected on the outside.

January 3, 2011 at 7:47 amQuite a post Carla! Mine, to be earning the money I need to take the stress of that out of my life. Stress is very harmful to the health so that is why I call this a health goal & one that I plan on ending this year ahead of the game! Thx Carla as always for these thoughtful posts!
AND… keep on stretching & getting better! I ma back as close to 100% form my back thing but I think I may always feel a slight twinge. I have stretched for years but the back specific rehab I did to get better will remain always even though I worked it before…

January 3, 2011 at 8:06 amWell other than getting to goal weight, which I am totally going to do this year BTW, I would have to say that I would would want to be even fitter: 1) having learned how to properly do strength training and see the results and 2) be able to fully run a 5K.

January 3, 2011 at 8:56 amThat I achieved “normalcy” and balance. This means that I took back my power that I have seemingly given over to food. January 3, 2011 at 9:35 amI would be looking back to see that over the course of 2011, I resolve my emotional eating issues and can settle at a (lower) weight that really makes me happy. That’s my biggest health concern: getting past the emotional eating and understanding – REALLY understanding – my personal relationship with food, and how to improve it.

January 3, 2011 at 9:42 amLaughing at the PeeWee reference. When our bikes were stolen last year, that was what came to mind about how much PeeWee loved his bike like I did mine.

On 12.31.11, I will have accomplished a significant chunk of my weight loss (but probably not all). I will have finally finished that book. I will have tried a lot of new experiences.

January 3, 2011 at 8:10 pmSimple, a year from now I will be looking back with unparalleled joy & pride at 2011 being the year in which I conquered the hardest quest of my life; weighing 199 or less!

Hmmmmm….mine would be oh boy I dunno. Okay this is sort of weird but I really really want to learn how to make a good fermented sourdough bread. I very much want to eliminate all grains and breads that haven’t been soaked, sprouted, or fermented. I’ve been trying for year but it takes a huge amount of preparation and work. I need a routine but it hasn’t happened yet. Sort of random guess. I also wouldn’t mind being CA state champ in my division in taekwondo but…that seems like there are more variables out of my control.

(In 2011, for the first time ever I didn’t do any resolutions. Instead, I created a mantra — idea from you of course. I tried to pick one word, but failed and instead picked 4: focus*BELIEVE*achieve*Balance. I love it. Thanks for this idea too.) :o)
