(MizFit note: if you press yer ear close to the photo above you’ll hear me whispering we’ll return to talking about 2011 tomorrow. Today Im compelled to ramble about something I unexpectedly loved. Perhaps that will be my theme of 2011: unexpected love. Who can say…)
Way back in the year 2010, BornFit generously reached out and offered to send me a Windom tech shirts to examine, exercise in & review.
I, of the supaflyfast email responses, took a while to reply.
I was derailed from running. I live in a hot climate (who the heck needs a tech shirt? I erroneously thought). Im tank-top mcgee (please to see previous sentences).
That said, I had a trip on the horizon to a colder clime & figured if nothing else it would save me having to spend money find something else warm to pack.
(new reader? youll learn this about me. Im nothing if not always brutally honest.)
I replied, informed the generous BornFit peeps Id bring the shirt on my obligatory inlaw visit vacation & planned not to think about the tech shirt until then.
And then, as oft happens in this misfit’s life, the shirt arrived & I was immediately smitten.
I wore it around town (frickin loved. comfy, jacket-like, & I felt fancy given the unique collar-thing).
I wore it to the gym & back (same. felt fancy & had something to keep me warm in the Texas-we-use-our-air conditioning-year-round chill).
I WOGGED IN IT (Ill give you a moment to digest that one. Yes I wogged (*cue confetti*) & the shirt rocked the wog).
I could keep yammering at you—but decided SEEING is BELIEVING.
(if youre browsing via a reader there’s a 54 second video below)
And yes, People.

January 4, 2011 at 4:33 amGirl, how CUTE are you?!
I am not a runner I am a walker in a cold climate.
That’s what I would use my Windom for!

January 4, 2011 at 4:41 amI laughed that you felt fancy and then I saw the video.
I wanna be fancy, too.
I’d wear mine to and fro 🙂 the gym.

I am a runner in Minneapolis freezing to death 🙂
I love the review and want to try!

January 4, 2011 at 5:07 amLurve the shirt and you are so adorable. Thank you for thereview. I am the same way about things around my neck. I like to be warm but the neck thing gets very choky if I’m not careful. I love that you can unzip it for a non-choky experience! Have a great day, Tess

January 4, 2011 at 5:25 amI could really use some gear for layering! This would be great!

January 4, 2011 at 5:43 amHey, Miz, this would definitely be a great addition to my “running wardrobe”. I like running outdoors, and IT IS COLD here right now.
Jennifer S says
January 4, 2011 at 5:45 amI would definitely use it for running outdoors. I live in Massachusetts and run outside year round. Thanks for the chance!
Erica says
January 4, 2011 at 6:18 amI love the zip neck! What a fabulous idea! It is unseasonable cold in SC right now and has moved my walks & runs from outdoors to the gym. This could save them!
melissa @ the delicate place says
January 4, 2011 at 6:28 amgirl needs some layers, i’d use the windom tech top to run outside! i get a bit of cabin fever so these types of things are nec. in the north 🙂

January 4, 2011 at 6:54 amI’m getting ready to run in my first 5K at the end of February and I need some warm running clothes – and I’m clueless. This would be a great addition to my wardrobe!

January 4, 2011 at 7:00 amIt’s adorable! I’d wear it to the gym because I live in the mountains where it is always brutally cold… I have to layer upon layer just to step outside this time of year 🙂
(Try leaning down for a contest in it to add insult to injury… WOOO)
Lori says
January 4, 2011 at 7:01 amLooks nice! I think it would be great for biking. I always start out cold when I bike and then when the sun hits I am too hot. The zipper would be great to allow for some ventilation when you do warm up!
kia says
January 4, 2011 at 7:19 amI would use this for running, hiking, walking, yoga, carrying baby, carrying guitar, vlogging (oh yeah I’ll vlog in it too), and trying to be like you (a.k.a. lookin’ good!) 😛
Kim says
January 4, 2011 at 7:36 amI love the top on you Miz and long to see it on me.
I would walk the dogs in it during the winter!

January 4, 2011 at 7:47 amOoh, I like! I would feel fancy, too! It would be nice to exercise OUTSIDE instead of the smelly (and currently overcrowded) gym.
Tracy says
January 4, 2011 at 8:01 amI love it! I’d use it for walking and running in the cold weather. I’m not one for wearing a coat so I’d say it’d get more use than that.
Patrick says
January 4, 2011 at 8:03 amOh I can see a Windom Tech shirt being a fine piece to wear out for my wintery walks. I like to layer up when I walk, or when I hunt, or go watch the kids outdoor sporting events. If it is comfortable, functional, and makes me look incredible too, whew; I am a happy guy 🙂

January 4, 2011 at 8:04 amI’ve been looking for the perfect tech shirt to use during my training runs in this ridiculous New Jersey weinter we’ve been having, this would be perfect! Having lost over 100 lbs in the past 5 years, I’m finally training for my first half marathon in April! But I am NOT looking forward to having to spend the money on expensive cold-weather running gear!
Susan says
January 4, 2011 at 8:11 amCute shirt! I am finding it VERY hard to get motivated to wake up early and do my weight routine in the cold garage, or drag myself out in the blustery wind. If I had this shirt, it might be easier! 🙂
Leah says
January 4, 2011 at 8:19 amI would wear it to yoga which is at 530 am in an ice cold room…..and in a downdog position, my bootie would be covered!
Emily says
January 4, 2011 at 8:24 amNot writing to enter, just to lament once again that us fatter-but-fit ladies would love performance gear like this that goes larger than a size 12/14!
Scale Warfare says
January 4, 2011 at 8:30 amI sorta heart that collar! Perhaps once I can fit into “regular” sizes, even the XXL I will treat myself to one!

January 4, 2011 at 8:32 amA shirt like that might actually get my laziness outside on a cold morning to run. Dig the weird collar thing. 😉
Marie says
January 4, 2011 at 8:36 amLove it! I live in Minnesota and it is cold here 7 out of 12 months. I would wear the shirt running, to the gym, chasing after my 5 yr old twin boys, errand hopping, relaxing, hiking, biking and so much more! I need some style up in here!

January 4, 2011 at 8:40 amLove that collar! I’m also in the ATX, so I apparently know it will be good for working out in our weather (thank you for the local testing!) and can use it for errands & dog walking. I’m also a sometime-coxswain out on the local lake though – which involves sitting still and using a microphone to encourage (not yell at) other rowers in the dark and cold. So I’d definitely use it as one of my layering pieces when I can’t be the one moving and working up a sweat!
Helen DoingA180 says
January 4, 2011 at 8:50 amRunning, of course!
But I can’t believe you don’t wear tech shirts for everything in every season! I think sweat wicking athletic clothing is the Best. Invention. Ever. I am completely repulsed by the cotton stuff anymore.
Jody says
January 4, 2011 at 8:54 amI’d be wearing this to the gym, to dance class and probably all day long while working. So bascially all the time. I love shirts like this because I tend to wear 3 layers this time of year. A tank with built in bra with a tshirt over it and then a hoodie/jacket of some sort. Yes, while inside. I get cold except at the gym/dance class where I end up stripping down to the tank and then layer back up over it when I head out into the cold.
Tina says
January 4, 2011 at 8:57 amI’d use this for everything.
Thanks for the 360 modeling 😉
Tessa Walker says
January 4, 2011 at 8:58 amI’d wear it on my chilly predawn training runs for the Missoula Marathon. Because Austin is 40 degrees and cold in the morning!!! And also to look stylish going to and from the gym.

January 4, 2011 at 9:08 amI love your reviews because I know you will say if it sucks.

January 4, 2011 at 9:11 amThat tech shirt would be forever appreciated while walking the dogs and attending baseball games. …because I live in the Bay and as Samuel Clemons said: The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco.
Random gods, be kind to your girl….
Kimberly Henrie says
January 4, 2011 at 9:13 amLooks like a great shirt! I’d wear it to look hot and professional at the gym that I own and would zip the collar up to make the trek between home and gym because IT IS COLD here in Colorado this time of year! Would love to put it to the test.
Great review!
Jaclyn says
January 4, 2011 at 9:15 amHow tall are you? The sleeves look pretty long…but…I am 6’….I am always looking for brands that have long enough sleeves!

January 4, 2011 at 9:16 amOooh, I wanna be fancy! I’d use mine for bike ridin’ with the kidlet and walking outside during the colder months.

January 4, 2011 at 9:32 amThat top looks really cute on you and I must say, I was SOLD as soon as I saw the stylish side zip! I would wear it when I am out running in 28 degrees, like I have the past two weekends…brrrrr!

Kelly Happy Texan says
January 4, 2011 at 9:49 amYou look hot in that thing. You should wear it out to dinner or something. 🙂
I’d wear it for running and biking. I don’t appreciate the length of the long sleeve tech shirts I’ve found in the store. I still have a tummy pooch that makes me self conscious and finding something to cover it is almost impossible. I would be so happy to have a shirt with long sleeves, wicking capabilities and has a longer length.
Katie R says
January 4, 2011 at 9:59 amI owuld wear the Windom top when I visit my parents in IL. Their climate is so much chillier than mine.

January 4, 2011 at 10:18 amWarm, comfy, and stylish?!! I would wear a shirt like that everyday! It’s sooo cold here! I just survived a -30 degree day (and then the wind came up and pushed it down to -40 with the wind chill), and nothing — absolutely nothing — keeps a chilly human warm in those types of conditions! 😀

January 4, 2011 at 10:28 amLike my daughter used to say when she was a wee little one: “want.” That’s it, simply “want.” (Says everything, doesn’t it?)

January 4, 2011 at 10:29 amI love your reviews and your brutal honesty. 🙂 And yes, I want one, too. It would be awesome for taking the dogs for walks on cold January nights. (And February and March nights, too.)
RG says
January 4, 2011 at 10:30 amI would LOVE to run in this type of tech shirt. I’ve been reduced to running for most of my exercise, and most of the time wear a cotton turtleneck like this with venting zipper. This works fine when I change immediately after, but when I went to the grocery store after my long run I caught a cold from the sweat that made me quite chilly while shopping.
Elise says
January 4, 2011 at 10:35 amI’m a “wear not much” exerciser myself (if I was inside I’d probably go nude if not for the bouncing nasty bits) so if you like it, then I would too!
Count me in for an entry 🙂

January 4, 2011 at 11:31 amEven though I grew up in Michigan, I hadn’t experienced cold winter weather until I moved to the mid-west prairie. Now I love layers.

January 4, 2011 at 11:33 amThat looks like such an awesome shirt! I need all the warm shirts that I can get. Spokane has been freaking cold lately. I ran in 6 degrees 2 days ago, and I attempted to run in -12 degrees about a month ago. Ack!
Shawnna says
January 4, 2011 at 11:55 amI’d wear it on my walks, which will soon become my runs! I’m such a cold weather wimp, but wearing a cute top like that would help!
Amy says
January 4, 2011 at 11:57 amWell, I live and run in the cold, cold, cold of Northwestern Pennsylvania. More specifically, I live in a region known as the “snow belt.” I would use my Windom to help me have even less excuses to not run in the winter. (If I win this, then my only excuse left would be ice. Anyone giving away Yak Traks??)
Jeanenne says
January 4, 2011 at 11:57 amDid you know Buffalo is cold? Like, really cold. I’d wear that all over town. I might even run in the Flurrious! 2 mile race in it.

January 4, 2011 at 12:08 pmHeck forget only running or cold weather walking I would wear that thing to work were I live. I ride in the front of a very cold bus with the door coming open every 10 min’s and then when I have to help my handicapped girl out the whole dang blasted wind hits me and goes right down my neck. Yep I would wear it every dang snowy cold day on a bus plus all day long at home to0 cause truth be told I am always freezing just ask the kids and Hubby, my Christmas present was a portable rolling amish heater:)

January 4, 2011 at 12:22 pmIt’s freeeezing here in Boston and as a college student (aka poor!) training for a half marathon you should see the type of clothes I wear outside. I pretty much layer every long sleeve free race t shirt I can find and head out to freeze my butt off! I’d love love to wear that shirt during any one of my training runs 🙂

January 4, 2011 at 12:39 pmI HATE running in the cold so much and this NYC winter has been very cold so far. I try to run on the treadmill mostly, but that gets so boring. Maybe the windom top could get me out of bed to face the chilly weather!

January 4, 2011 at 12:47 pmWhat wouldn’t I wear it for? Running, running errands, lounging around the house (in my dreams)… it would make me feel like a (sexy) ninja and isn’t that what every woman wants?
Peggy says
January 4, 2011 at 12:56 pmIm live at the base of cold, snowy mountains. I could love that jacket as much as my long underwear. Perfect for getting out even when every ounce of my body wants to curl up under a warm blanket and drink sugary hot cocoa.

January 4, 2011 at 9:00 pmI LOVE running fancy! It somehow balances the sweaty, smelly, red face, I look like I wanna die found at the end of a long run. I’m training for the New Orleans Rock and Roll 1/2 in February. I’d wear it proud on race day and not only run fancy, but sport it with those FANCY finisher medals! And if I don’t miraculously WIN one, I might just purchase my own fancy BornFit top.
PS – Thanks for the great reviews and honesty. Your brutal honesty (and dry sense of humor) are the reason I keep reading.

January 5, 2011 at 12:04 amHow awesome! Although I do run outside (and the shirt would banish those whiny “but it’s too cold!” excuses) I would love to have it for something entirely different: I’m a professional ballet dancer, and I’m always freezing during my walk from the car to the studio and have a tough time warming up at the start of class. The shirt would keep my muscles nice and toasty! I’m also a poor college student, so anything free is hugely appreciated!

January 5, 2011 at 7:33 amI live in the northeast and have been walking with my best friend every morning. I rise at 5:10 drive to her house to walk for 30 minutes every morning. Stylish at the gym and walking the dog (I get the late night shift) I am not. I am a poster child for “What not to wear”. Currently it is whatever is nearby and looks warm.

January 5, 2011 at 6:44 pmSuper! I’d wear it to my next triathlons in Feb. and March. I wish I had it for my tri on Sunday 1/19. It’s suppose to rain! Anyone know any reverse rain dances? Brrrr!

January 7, 2011 at 7:59 pmBeing in another warm climate, I wouldn’t have been sure, but it has been COLD here in Phoenix, and I would wear it to my track training group.

January 8, 2011 at 4:22 pmI’d wear it for working out (live in Kansas and right now it’s in the 20s and going to snow tomorrow) and for running around (errands and stuff) in the cold….looks so comfy and cozy. Plus I am lazy and always wearing my yoga pants/workout gear during the day instead of putting on real clothes. LOL.

January 9, 2011 at 10:52 amI only have one cold weather shirt! It would be great to have this one! I would run in it, wear it skiing, and going to outdoor events! It would have been nice to have had to throw on after our dip in the ocean on New Year’s Day up here in RI! Brrr!
