(yes. if I possessed mad photoshop skills G would have a thought bubble reading how EXCITED she is to be here & how Im totally her imaginary BFF, too.)
As I mentioned here I was fortunate to have the opportunity to ask Giuliana Rancic a few questions.
This week Giuliana launches her new site FabFitFun (which makes her kindasorta a healthy living blogger) where she’ll be sharing insights into how she remains balanced, happy and healthy in the crazy world of Hollywood.
Please to enjoy my G-chat**:
I love your dynamic with your husband, Bill & inexplicably adore how you call him Rancic. You two seem to have a great balance of best friends and life partners all exemplified by that small action. (MizFit note: I realize I need to get a life. No need to leave that remark in the comments below) I know one of the keys to making my marriage work is remembering to laugh no matter what life lobs our way.
What’s your biggest tip for my readers regarding choosing a life partner?
A cute butt – just kidding. I think it’s really important to be friends with the person you are committing yourself too. Looks fade, there’s going to be disagreements but at the end of the day you have to enjoy the company of the person you are living with. After a tough day there is no one I want to come home to more. He is always my biggest fan and I am his. And fine, a good butt doesn’t hurt either.
Speaking of cute butts—is Bill as into fitness as you are? You both look uber-fit. Is working out something you do together?
Yep, he loves working out. We love to get outside and be active together – running, hiking, etc. – it makes working out a lot more fun. That was actually one of the things that attracted us to each other. We have the same philosophy when it comes to being healthy and in shape.
Since youre a longterm reader of MizFit I know you already know my running story. What started you running? Have you found the love of the run?
Im renown for ADORING the weights and only doing the cardio because it’s good for my heart. Any tips for finding the cardio-love?
I think doing cardio with a partner helps a lot. You tend to run faster and longer when you feel responsible for someone else’s workout. I did not always love running – it was something that I really learned to love. Of course now I am obsessed with it – I can’t wait to do another marathon.
If you are new to running or just burnt out I would definitely suggest doing sprints! In the morning before work, I hit the treadmill where I do a 5 min warm up, followed by a fast paced walk on a medium incline for 5 minutes. I then sprint for 2 minutes then go back to the walk at an incline for another 5 minutes then sprint again for 2 and on and on for about 50 minutes. It breaks the monotony of my cardio and allows me to make phone calls and read a great book on my IPad when I’m walking. Yes, I read and walk on the treadmill. I don’t recommend that to clumsy people but for those with coordination, it is a great way to make the time go by while working out your body and your brain!
I ran my first half-marathon at Disney World as a member of their Disney Princess Media Mixer Team (MizFit note: I was a tutu’d media mixer runner tootoo! we have so much in common Oh BFF whom Ive never met!) . If Id not been running along side women whom I wanted to think I was hardcore (and wearing a tutu!) I swear Id have quit. What motivated you to sign up? what got you through the training? what carried you through race day?
I think I just love a challenge. Bill has always been a big runner and I think I just wanted to prove that I could do it as well. What, do I sound competitive?
Since Im temporarily running derailed Ive been forced to get really creative with my cardio (hello! freeze tag with child! Greetings hula-hooping!)—whats the silliest thing you’ve done or tried in the name of fitness?
I once raced this dog. Seriously I was convinced I could run faster than this Chihuahua down the hallway of my condo. That bitch beat the hell out of me. Okay, so I’m a little competitive.
Ive lifted weights with my husband for almost 17 years and cant imagine having another partner. Do you have a training partner? or are you a solo-exerciser?
Rancic is definitely my workout buddy but because of our hectic schedules I do go solo often.
I covet love your mom (on the show. Im a fan but Im not a stalker.). And I *love* the looks of all her food-creations. How do you enjoy all the Italian treats and stay lean?
My mom is an amazing cook! I love Italian food – I just try to keep everything in moderation. If I indulge in a plate of lasagna for dinner – I will probably go for a lighter chicken salad type lunch the next day. And most likely go to the gym. I just try to live a really balanced lifestyle.
When I began my career I thought I wanted to work in television. After interning at a CBS affiliate I saw the immense pressure on-air talent felt with regards to looks & decided to pursue more behind the scenes work. How on earth do you stay sane and normal when you know your dressing room is filled with sample sizes & there’s always the pressure to be red carpet ready?
There is definitely a ton of pressure in Hollywood to be uber skinny. I think I created FabFitFun to get away from all of the craziness. It’s a place that promotes a happy, healthy lifestyle. Although we all know looking good is great, the truth is that feeling good is even better. FabFitFun is filled with tips to feel good from the inside out.
I frequently receive comments/emails that it’s ‘really easy’ for me because I’m already fit. Have you ever struggled with your weight?
Of course – everyone struggles with how the look – especially when they are in the Hollywood spotlight. I have just learned to take it all with a grain of salt. I work hard to look and feel my best and try to forget about the rest.
So there you have it, People.
My teeny tiny brush with Hollywood and most likely the closest Ill get to ever being on E! News.
And you?
If you’d had the chance to interview my new friend G** what would you have asked her?
You never know—I mightcould be chatting with her again soon…
**No. I never asked if I could have permission to refer to her as G. I merely did so. I possess what my people call chutzpah.

January 11, 2011 at 7:35 amFun post!
I would want to know if it’s difficult for her to go for a run, hike etc. I would assume she can’t just go out wherever, whenever she wants. Don’t people stop her to talk to her because she’s famous (and beautiful)?
Does she work out to DVDs? Subscribe to any fitness oriented magazines? What is your very most favoritest way to work out?
Great interview. Loved it.

January 11, 2011 at 7:36 amHey, a cute butt is extremely critical selection criteria and is highly under-utilized in my opinion.

January 11, 2011 at 7:37 amSo cool Carla!!! You are a great interviewer.. you need to go mass! 🙂 I had no idea she was so into weights did you. How we both love that!!!! Course I am not one to follow Hollywood really close even though I live so close. It can get you crazy & me, as self critical as I am, make me worse!
Thx so much for this.. loved it & YOU, you need to be on TV doing the interviews!

January 11, 2011 at 8:50 amG-Chat…mwahahaha.
I have really fallen in love with G&B because of their honesty and transparency with their pregnancy struggles. I so love the way they have gotten closer rather than drifted apart.
And I LOVE that she’s a runner.

January 11, 2011 at 12:13 pmWell, Miz, if you ever decide to make a cartoon Giuliana (a la Elle D.) you’ll have no trouble creating a lookalike stick figure.
Kidding.
This was a great interview.

January 11, 2011 at 12:38 pmI’ve been waiting for this post!!I love Guiliana for how honest she seems. It seems like so many celebs say they eat whatever they want and walk their dog for exercise so it’s to hear someone who not only admits to exercising hard but to loving it!

January 12, 2011 at 7:55 amThanks for the great interview with your BFF “G”. She’s mine too, especially more now that I know her take on exercise and healthy living. But I sort of knew that already from watching her and Bill on their show. Also love your before picture, it actually gives the rest of us a lot of inspiration…I too, might be able to get that lovely muscle definition. Well, I’ll keep on trying!!

January 12, 2011 at 6:45 pmAwesome interview and I’m totally jealous. I watch the show even though my sister made fun of me for it. Boo on her anyways. I’ll have to check out her web site.
I’m not a runner, yet, but have a suggestion for the clumsy on treadmills. Audibles.com = audible books. Still counts as reading and less worry about turning pages and maybe falling. I’ve tried the walking and reading, which is fine and I may do it once the treadmill is working again. *prays to the fitness gods it works again*
