Im frequently asked what *I* do and where do *I* turn when I look like the above and Im feeling overwhelmed & thisclose to heeding the call of the (pop)Tarts?
I turn to my list.
My decadence list.

January 17, 2011 at 7:58 amWhy does it make me a little happy you are normal and struggle, too? 🙂
I have a kind of list in my head and it prolly should be written down.

Just the name is genius as it will make me feel taken care of and pampered in those times I want to scarf a box of Krispy Kremes 🙂

January 17, 2011 at 8:02 amThanks! I needed to procastinate work a bit longer this morning! Here’s my brilliant comment. 🙂
I think this is a great idea. We are used to “drop down” menus on computers. Even my VOIP phone at work has a menu for “Your Current Options.” I like the idea of using a “decadence list” (and what a wonderful name for it) in the same way.
When I find myself having made an un-healthy choice, I usually wish I had at least considered other options. Just like our ocmputers don’t always have the options we are looking for (like “recover the document I just spend hours creating but now has vanished”) our list may not include “bury self in a pint of Ben & Jerry’s” but it can have more healthful–and more helpful–options.

January 17, 2011 at 8:03 amAs a new mom I most liked when you said your daughter notices you take the list out of your purse (I think that was it).
I want to try and teach my daughter the self-care I did not learn until I was an adult.

January 17, 2011 at 8:03 amOh and I liked too that you are normal and sometimes make a “bad” choice and just move on with your life.

January 17, 2011 at 8:05 amGreat idea, Miz. I’ve got a list of sorts, but I think I need to reframe how I think about it. I do believe in framing all things in the positive. Thank you for this.

I loved this Carla! I think this is super important. Right now, trying to find a way to make money & still doing my blog – the blog & all the time writing posts & trying to get to others can be overwhelming & my biggest gift to myself is to just walk away from the computer – unplug as we say.
I also have meet days with friends that I like to keep!

January 17, 2011 at 1:00 pmLove this idea! Earlier this morning I was staring into my bathroom mirror at my grey roots thinking I need to take care of those. With a decadence list they might get taken care of more regularly!! 😉

January 17, 2011 at 1:07 pmI think it is a compliment to you that I only want to comment here and not when you link yourself to other places.
You have created a community with a safe atmosphere.
I am struggling with a tendency to self-harm lately (I have a therapist lest you worry :)) and I like this idea so that in the hazy crazy moments I do not need to even think.
Thank you Miz.

January 18, 2011 at 2:48 pmHave I told you lately that I want to be you when I grow up? You are my self-improvement guru. Every tip you give makes me simultaneously think “Huh, I could do that!” and then “I SHOULD do that.” Off to work on a decadence list…

January 20, 2011 at 6:14 pmYa know… that’s a REALLY good idea! There’s always the likelihood that the candy treats are going to rear their sweet little heads and attempt to thwart our goals. A handy decadent diversion may just be the solution to the problem. Thanks!
