By the time you read this Ill be en-route to Blissdom to serve as one of the Fitness Tribe Leaders thanks to my amazing sponsor Jockey. Random picture-filled posts to follow (Im STALKING this woman.) I just needed you to know that *I* know Im lucky. Quite.
Im lucky. Fortunate. Blessed.
And Im highly aware & thankful.
Beyond.
Yet, while Im grateful for all I have (so much so I tend to ask Ren Man if I tell him *too* frequently. Im a believer in ‘if you feel it—share it!’) Im also cognizant of the fact behind every lucky individual there usually exists an unseen crapload (technical term) of work.
Today’s post is neither for bragging about the aforementioned work I may (or may not) have done—nor is it to ask you to recognize me for my accomplishments.
Today I merely wanted to share with you some of my MizMuzings on the creation of kismet.
I believe, as with many seemingly random occurrences in life, we can all exercise (pun intended) a modicum of control and attract more windfalls into our worlds.
It seems to me lucky people tend to listen to their intuition/gut more frequently.
I cant tell you the number of successful people Ive interviewed who, when asked *how* they knew a certain choice was the right one, cited listening to their gut as the best predictor of a good life-decision.
I’ve learned the hard way (by ignoring) that frequently my first thought, my gut-reaction, is indeed the best one and the one with which I should go.
I’m dedicating my forty-first year to learning how to better trust my intuition & inner voice.
Lucky people also appear to have the ability to rebound & faith in their ability to turn around ‘bad’ situations.
I can definitely say for every “success” Ive had (on blog & off) there are 2394820948 attempts which crashed & burned.
Many of you whose email or phone numbers I possess have heard more than you care to about aforementioned crashing & burnings.
All the folks I know whom Id define as “lucky” are fearless when it comes to shaking up their routines & taking risks.
While Im pretty good with risk taking— it goes without saying the routine-piece is an arena in which I definitely need work.
Especially since the Tornado entered the scene. I love my routine. Kids thrive on routine. You do the proverbial math.
All the lucky people Ive known, read about or interviewed expect the positive. They appear to decide how a situation is going to ‘turn out’ & not waiver from their mental image.
Whether you believe in the Law of Attraction or not this one can never hurt. I strive to employ it in everything from my vision board to the way I speak (Im filled with health versus Crap the whole family is sick. I hope I dont get sick, too.)
So there you have it.
Four ways I believe we can all create more luck in our lives.
I know the popular quote is Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity
I’ve come to the conclusion, however, for me luck is what happens when an individual sees an opportunity & is ready, willing, and able to embrace or transform it through hard work, tenacity, & a thick slathering of misfitness outside the box thinking.
Which all leads me back to my initial question:
I’m lucky. Are you?
Please to hit us all up in the comments.

January 26, 2011 at 2:45 amI am lucky. Extremely lucky. I love my lifestyle, love where I live, love my work, love my partner; I’m healthy, happy, growing and awakening more every day.
These 4 ways you’ve mentioned are habits that I’m learning need to be practiced with dedication. I’m getting better at them, and I fully expect to become even more lucky 🙂

January 26, 2011 at 5:31 amI do also believe that luck has to do with your beliefs. If you think of yourself as “lucky” you will be! Our thoughts create our reality.
When I wanted to recover from my eating disorder I had to completely believe that it would happen, that I would be one of the “lucky” ones that recovered. And so I imagined it and visualized it as if it were already true. And it worked!
Great post, thanks

January 26, 2011 at 6:21 amCarebears! Wow!
I guess my faith is making me respond that I don’t feel lucky, I feel blessed. In so many ways. I have worked my a$$ off for my successes, but I still feel blessed to have had the opportunities to do so and to have had my efforts recognized and rewarded.
I have taken leaps on gut reactions (start law school in my late 20s with 2 young kids? bring it!) but usually pray over those opportunities and hope my gut is channelling some Divine guidance. 😉
An I am a glass-half-full optimist with a can-do attitude for sure.
Thanks for this empowering message!

January 26, 2011 at 6:40 amI am lucky AND happy! I think they go hand in hand! Hence the saying, “happy go lucky” 🙂 LOL!
Anywho, I believe happy is the key for me. And I choose it. I choose to be happy in most situations, despite how others want to react!

January 26, 2011 at 6:54 amAs always, a great post Carla! Yes – I am very lucky and was even considering writing a related post sometime this weekend about reaping what we sew (sow?) – obviously more research on how to spell is needed, but you get the gist 🙂 The more we give, the more opportunity comes. Congrats on your sponsorship to Blissdom.

January 26, 2011 at 7:04 amGreat points! It’s taken me a long time to fully trust my gut. But it has really never let me down. The other day I was given an opportunity that sounded just too good to turn down. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t the right thing for me at this point in my life. And I listened to my gut and turned it down. And I feel happy and at peace.
Have a great time at Blissdom!!!

January 26, 2011 at 8:54 amGreat conversation starter!
I think that luck comes as a result of hard work — it’s sort of a combination of getting TO the right place and right time, and being willing to accept whatever comes.
I’m a shameless Law of Attraction believer, and I have found that when I am not being open and honest, Karma delivers me a swift kick.
And, I’m lucky to be buddies with YOU. 🙂

January 26, 2011 at 9:13 amWhy WOULDN’T things go my way? And yes, I do go through life thinking that…which is why, even sidelined as I am, mere weeks before Austin, I really think I’ll be there, running through your fair city. Why not?!?
Lori (Finding Radiance) says
January 26, 2011 at 9:30 amI consider myself lucky in that I can view things from an optimist point of view. We do actually seem to have a lot of bad luck happen to us, but we can laugh about it and learn from it. I consider us lucky to do that because otherwise we would just wallow in misery.

January 26, 2011 at 12:46 pmI could kiss you right now for a light bulb moment. I’m just getting out of one of the worst experiences of my life and I have decided that I will rebound from this with grace and strength. This is an opportunity to sculpt and create my life, to grow and to prosper on a different level. Yes, I am lucky!

January 26, 2011 at 2:17 pmYes, and luck involves getting up every time you fall down. I’ve stayed down too many times – this time I’m getting back up each time, and that’s improving my ‘luck’. Cheers, Rick

January 27, 2011 at 2:55 amThis is a great post and it led me to look at your “vision board” post (I’m fairly new to your blog). My vision board is the pictures and quotes I’ve stapled to the wall surrounding my *ahem* commode. The other night I’d decided to wimp out on my previously planned exercise; but while sitting there, I read one of the quotes that ended up being my salvation and got me onto my treadmill! I posted it on my blog and recommend reading it to anyone who needs a kick in the pants! Thanks for all your inspiring work!
