(Why yes. This misfit DOES eat at the computer. MINDFULLY. Mindful of how much I love my snack.)
First, before I proceed to regale you with how selfish I am and then quickfastandinahurry shift gears to how giving I can be, Happy Valentines Day!
Sure it’s a Hallmark holiday (oooh, did I ever tell you about how I applied to work for them in their card writing department? So.Fun.)—but who doesnt like being wished a happy anything.
So happy Valentines Day.
To be candid, we’re not much for celebrating these types of holidays at Casa Miz.
We tend to be the How about we’re loving and kind to each other 365 days a year? that mightcould work better! kind of a family.
We are, however, a clan who *loves* to surprise each other with random treats (I have a point here & it’s all tying into the photo above. I promise) whether it’s an expensive somethin’somethin‘ or simply a treat Im typically too selfish to share she’s not usually allowed to have.
Allow me to back up a wee bit.
A decade-PLUS ago bit.
I’d been eating gluten free for a while already and because of how much better I FELT I was happily puttering along.
Except for the fact I missed my cereal.
And, to be totally honest, I missed a sweet cereal to satiate my sweet tooth.
I wish I could recall precisely how I found them (Kays Naturals was founded in 1997 & this was probably around 1999) but since I did my cupboards have always been stocked with the snack pictured above.
And my car.
And my purse.
And my suitcase when I travel.
(even when not outside the house I tend toward the single serving bags. Methinks I love the cereal too much to trust myself with portion control even now.)
How does this all tie back into Valentines Day & gestures of loving kindness?
Im a misfit who is loathe to share her Kays Naturals gluten-free stash with her child (yes. I will give you a moment to digest that).
From the cookie bites to the Parmesan protein chips these snacks are all mine.
Until they’re not.
And I surprise her by bestowing an ENTIRE!BAG! of ‘Mama’s treats’ upon her.
A few weekends ago I did this at a movie (Tangled for the millionth time) & the delight on her soon-to-be cereal coated face made me grin….and reach out to Kays for a freebie treat for you.
FOR FIVE OF YOU.
On this SPREADING THE LOVE Valentines Day.
Kays Naturals has *generously* offered to send five of you USA-types a sampler pack crammed with my favorite Kay’s treats.
You may be entered to win for the lowlow cost of a comment below:
On this day where we’re practically compelled to do unto others (never a bad thing in my misfit-opinion) what loving act will you perform?
From sister to stranger. Life-partner to office-mate.
What small gesture will you do today to (metaphorically) surprise a Tornado with her very!own!cereal!pack!
I think you’ll find, as I always do, the act brightens YOUR day as well.
USA only
winner announced 2.21.11
FTC? I paid fer my own cereal!
We have those kinds of treats in my house. They’re Mrs. NoMo’s and none of the testosterone types in the house are allowed to touch (including me).
I think I’ll surprise Jackie by letting her unknowingly share her treat with me. Bad idea?
OK, really what I’m going to do is surprise her with a surprise date tomorrow night since she thinks our date at the basketball game on Friday was our Valentine’s Date. She’s getting her hair done tonight so she thinks our dating is done. The date is not going to be a sporting event. Just her and I going somewhere simple and enjoying. Oh, and please don’t show this post to her until tomorrow 🙂
Can’t wait to find out more about the Kay’s and buy bushels of the stuff for our GF snack cravings.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
I’m giving in and finally watching Star Wars with Hunni. He always suggests it when we are bored at home and I don’t wanna. I always find something else to watch like Love Actually or PS I Love you.
Tonight I’m unplugging and watching the original Star Wars with my Hunni who owns all the movies and books. I’ll be his dream girl 🙂
I’m remembering my single friends on Valentine’s Day.
The cereal sounds yummy! Something both Josh and I would enjoy! On this Valentine’s day, I made Josh a few special treats (waffles & cookies) and got him a fun card to wake up to while I’m out teaching at the gym 🙂 Happy Valentine’s day!
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, Miz!!
My random act of kindness will definitely be for a stranger today.
I’ll do it and come back 🙂
The name on that package has me SOLD! I am the queen of protein…or one of them anyway!
I will find a way to share some love with the world today…but first…coffee! 😉
Anything you hoard I want to try!! 🙂
Tonight I’m taking my sister’s kids out to see Gnomeo & Juliet so she can have a night off.
She’s a single mom.
I’ve never seen this company before.
Do you think we’d like it even if we aren’t gluten free???
Yesyesyes!!
Oh and that link to a plixi picture is blank.
Is it just me??
Happy Lurve Day!!! Thanks for the chance to win, I’ve never heard of it but have googled it now. Yum! I teach kindergarten so we will have lots of lurve today 🙂
We’re the same way, about celebrating V day! It just all seems so gimmicky to me.
My loving acts today?
Im doing an awesome bloggyland giveaway myself! check it out http://bit.ly/fw31oi (sorry for the shameless plug there MzFit!)
Lola and I are making LOVE COOKIES today-gluten and sugar free as well as not-so-sugar/gluten free LOVE CUPCAKES for hubby and the g-parents.
We are making Vday Cards for the grandparents with her favorite, messy art things–paint, markers, glitter, glue!
It should be a FUN FUN day with my girl
Cereal is my *crack*, so maybe I shouldn’t enter this giveaway. . . . Aw, what the heck! If I’m gonna eat cereal it might as well be a good one. 😉
Today I left a Valentine card and small bag of valentine Jelly Bellys (both purchased at Hallmark!) for my 16 year-old son, cuz even if he thinks he’s all grown and has a girlfriend, he can’t escape some mom-mushyness on a day like today. <3
Happy V-Day to you Carla & your adorable family! And thx for all the links to food I now want to eat! 🙂
I have done a couple random acts of kindness already in the gym but I will do more during the day… along with a special love hug for my hubby!
Than for spreading the love Carla.. you always do!
Dear Kay’s,
Don’t you love us in Canada too? *tear*
Love,
Blogger with a hankering for a protein-rich gluten-free tasty-looking snack.
I will show love and compassion for MYSELF. I have trouble with this and it causes too much sadness in my life. It’s time for a change of that!
Happy Valentine’s Day Carla!
How fun. I’ve never heard of this brand. The things I learn on here 😉
Today I plan on taking my boys to the library and stopping at Starbucks for a treat. It’s a school day, so we’ll call it a field trip! They’ve no clue.
I *love* cereal….especially healthy cereal!
I’m with you – I want my family to know I love them everyday. I am going to cook a nicer dinner tonight (lobster tails) to “celebrate”.
Okay here’s one for you – I am showing my love by not making any delicious meals. Because, my dear husband scheduled his routine colonoscopy for tomorrow and can’t eat today! So I’ll keep my own eating on the down low. BTW – hubby used to work for that greeting card company. Not as a writer though.
hiya, Miz! My Mom discovered that she feels MUCH better when she eats GF, too. I hope that i win so that I can send her some foodie love down in sunny F-L-A. (AAnnnnd i might keep one of the samples for me! don’t judge…)
so, thanks for this chance to win!
keep on Rockin’ it!
be Well,
-gene-
Great giveaway- was JUST told i have to go gluten free for autoimmune disease! I am going to cook a nice dinner for my boyfriend tonight.
Great giveaway- was JUST told i have to go gluten free for autoimmune disease! I am going to cook a nice dinner for my boyfriend tonight.
I have a slight problem with cereal obsession. This cereal looks delicious and I would be so grateful to indulge!
We are keeping VDay very low key. Breakfast sandwiches for dinner. Yum!
I’m cooking my husband his favorite dinner. And giving up some of my activities to spend it with him.
Having a great V-day here with my hubby and son. I’m surprising the little guy by taking him to The Paint Spot (paint your own pottery place) this afternoon. He’s been wanting to go – and I got a Groupon!
I love, love, love cereal – and I’m always looking for new yumminess.
I will fill out and hide the aforeboughten cards for my loved family. I will not let a terribly sick Chickadee dissuade me from my purpose.
Much.
I just made healthy cookies (but they are still good, and full of chocolate) to bring to my classmates!
Happy Valentines Day Miz!
Thank you for the sweet comment today.
I’ll be doing something nice by letting my husband cook dinner for us tonight…believe me, that is nice, because he will invariably use every size bowl (why doesn’t he just start with the biggest?!?) and most of the pots and pans…but I will sit there and graciously appreciate his efforts. 🙂
I love how simple cereal is, and yet I’m always concerned about the low protein. This certainly fits the bill, doesn’t it?
I’m back after buying coffee for two strangers this morning just to brighten their valentines day!
It did brighten mine too.
I’ve seen Kays a few places and haven’t had the chance to try yet.
I think I would smuggle mine to the movies too.
Pretty much just a normal day for us. I will make a homemade pizza in the shape of a heart for dinner tonight.
At our house today, love is a crock-pot full of grass-fed short ribs, and a table that’s cleared of clutter so we have a place to eat them.
I’m making cards for everyone who really means something to me, plus baking some GF yums for my celiac mom 😀
Food is love. haha! jk
Roses are red,
Oranges are orange.
I love me some MizFit
F*ck… nothing rhymes with orange!
they look yummy!! I have almost sworn off cereal because it is either super sweet & sugary or cardboardy and gross….I hope this is different!
oh, and valentine’s day should be celebrated EVERY day – I try to show my family EVERY day that I love them!
I gave in and celebrated Valentine’s a little early (my 6 year old just HAD to give me what he bought–his little ploy to get his gift early:)
The greatest gift I have been trying to give is my time. That means putting down the cell phone and refusing to check work emails when I am with him (and my husband:).
I love LOVE so Valentine’s Day to me is just a great excuse to spread the love. 🙂
I’m kind of inpired by Nina (a couple comments above me) and though I don’t normally go to coffee shops, I may go to one today just to buy someone a drink!
We’re not huge into Valentine’s Day either – just big on loving each other all the time. But my acts of love today include leaving a note on the bathroom mirror for my hubs AND going to the gym, to love myself. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
I love your question! I’m going to continue practicing patience, openness, compassion, and affection to those around me 🙂
Smiles for strangers!!
Gluten free granola? I’m very intrigued! And the Tornado loves it too? Even more intrigued!
I TRY to be all about love all day every day, but today is super special because I can pass out cards to strangers and not be highly suspect! YAY For Hello Kitty valentines!!
The Cereal looks super yummy! I’ve missed cereal SO much since cutting out gluten, I had no idea there was another option!
Okay, I’ll be nice today! I’m taking salad AND dessert over to a neighbor’s house to watch the Westminster dog show. Does that count? She’s the only person I’m gonna see today.
I’m gonna take Noah for a walk in a minute–that should count for something.
Anyway, these look like terrific snacks. I’d love to try them.
I sent out an email to all my single girlfriends that said:
I LOVE YOU! You deserve to feel loved and admired regardless of whether or not you have a man in your life.
(which I stole from http://www.postsecret.com)
I made cake balls for my friend’s 86th birthday! (Okay, so that was kind of self-serving since I ate two of them.) I treated myself to a day away from the computer so I could be outdoors.
This has been an all-about-me kind of V-day. 🙂
Haven’t heard of these products before, so I’m off to explore!
I am newly GF and miss my cereal too 😉
Off to check them out. I loved Attune when you sent me to them!!
hmmm, my step-dad had to move to another town three hours away to work a job that pays more so he and my mom will only see eachother on the weekends. the worst part is that he had to leave today! so, tonight, i’ll be making dinner for my mom to try and take her mind off of it.
Today (since much of it has passed) I asked my kidlets what would they liked to do. Ready for a laundry list of wants and preparing to play taxi driver they both asked to cuddle on our huge overstuffed pillow on the floor and watch movies. I think it was more a love gift they gave me then I gave them by far. ~And btw, seriously miss some yummy cereal too!
I took my mom & godmother/aunt out for pedicures to pamper them on Valentine’s day 🙂
It kinda looks like a bag-O stuffing. But I do not discriminate. Feeds me the protein cereal, peeze. the loving act I performed? Whoops! Lemme get back to you on that.
I gave my husband a bag of dark chocolate that I wanted for myself – how sweet is that? I might sneak some later… shhhh. xoxo
I like to give Valentines (either homemade or store bought) – to express my love because – sure, verbally, I tell my family daily that I love them – but sometimes it’s nice to get a little hand-written note of kind words.
I made sure my single family members received gifts, and i gave my Hunnie my undivided attention for the night. (which is rare for us since we both have full time jobs and five kids)
I brought some yummy cupcakes to the office – everybody deserves a little something on Heart Day! And I’m not sure this counts, but I also emailed a coworker/friend’s boyfriend to strongly suggest that he do something nice for said friend. Hopefully it paid off for her!!!
I sent goodies for my daughter’s class yesterday. She was so pleased to take care of the snacks! Hmm, would love for her to try your snacks.
Winks & Smiles,
Wifey
I have two kids, so I set aside an hour each to just have mommy time. Both appreciated the one-on-one attention.
Hubby also got some one-on-one attention, but I’ll be keeping it G-rated for this comment and not share the details with y’all.
wooo! i think i need some more protein lately. so i ordered some of kay’s cereal online. i’m excited to try it out.
and i’ve been volunteering at my local npr station this week. i guess that’s how i have been metaphorically gifting cereal.
We’re aren’t the kind who celebrate Valentine’s Day either and since the Hubs will be at class until well after dinner time the girls and I will be having Mommy & Me time (like every week night) to enjoy the Day of Love.
We ended up curling up together on the couch and watching (for the millionth time) Shark Boy and Lava Girl whilst munching on mini red velvet cupcakes from a previous Love Day school party. 🙂
I’m a wee bit late with reading my emails, but I gave two co-workers a jar of my favorite body butter from The Body Shop because they love the smell when they walk past my office. They were completely surprised and their smiles made my day!
Oooh I would love to win! I have been volunteering at my church.
I will start with myself first, NO negative self talk! When I am happy with myself then I can begin to help others. Cheesy, but true!
It’s really a excellent web site. You actually have a lot of useful ideas and information. I am on the “7 on 2 off diet” ( I’m sure that is what it’s known as ). Anyhow, it’s worked really well for me, I have lost close to twenty puonds since the first of January. Keep up the good work, I am going to check back in.
