Dear sweet everything please let this be the LAST workout RUT I get myself into!
First? I FREAKIN ADORE YOU PEOPLE.
There was nary an ounce of humor when I said I was really apprehensive to hit PUBLISH on the #FitAfterFitbloggin post.
I wont lie.Β I thumb typed it from the lobby of the gym where Ren Man was upstairs cardio’ing and I was downstairs…not.
It was blogged from my heart & for the first time I felt *vulnerable* when I sent my words from phone to blogesphere.
I knew, in my heart of hearts, if no one commented Id feel alone in my rut’nessment.
But comment you did and thank you.
And then you asked.
About the plan.
If there would be ‘challenges’ involved.
If you could blog about #FitAfterFitbloggin, too.
(none. no. and HELLS YES.)
You see, for me #FitAfterFitbloggin is all about accountability.
About harnessing the power of our entire Healthy Living Tribe as virtual workout partners.
About knowing at least 80 of you are out there rut-bustin’, goal setting & getting up *each day* and re-committing along side me.
Im a misfit.
I dont do challenges.
For me the end results–from push-ups to planking–are FLEETING.
Ephemeral.
Challenge over? I return to my rut previous ways (please to see above clarification about the fact I can’t lie)
So, instead of a challenge, Im pledging as for this misfit the mere act of public-announcement is *challenge* and accountability enough.
You may join me (I printed this out, asked the Tornado to color it, & taped it above my computer).
You may create your OWN (please to send it to me along with any of your #FitAfterFitbloggin links!).
You may design a challenge and ask me to help you promote (Im happy to! Im just not a joiner).
Whatever you do —please to hit us all up with your #FitAfterFitbloggin updates & plans in the comments below.
My #FitAfterFitbloggin Pledge:
I (state your name) do solemnly swear I have finally learned after (insert your age here) years I can not let my workouts plateau and expect to grow more healthy, fit and strong.
I recognize the importance of cross-training, of trying new things and of letting go of my vice-like grip on my self definition.
I will greet each day with a renewed commitment to my overall health & wellness and remember I am never as far away from my healthy living path as my very.next.choice.

I plan to take body pump all summer and see how AWESOME I am by Labor Day!

June 1, 2011 at 3:48 amOH.
I clicked over in hopes you would have a challenge and a badge π
You make a great point about the returning to old behaviors as the number of challenges I have done is almost the same as the number of pounds I’ve gained the past few months.
I shall give the pledge a go.
THANK YOU.

June 1, 2011 at 4:30 amI found it normalizing that you’re human with the exercise, but even more with the comments.
I would have thought you posted blogs and knew we would all read and respond.
Thank you for sharing that you feel hesitant at time and sad if people don’t comment.

June 1, 2011 at 5:15 amYou have NO idea how much I need to hear all of this right now. I’m in a rut – and I need to do something different. I’m just struggling right now with what that different is going to be. It’s very hard for me to get out of a “routine” that I create and move into a different one. But I have to. My weight loss has stalled – and I’m just frustrated. I need to find something different to do before I just turn back to the fridge.

June 1, 2011 at 5:24 amI need this challenge-free challenge Miz!!

June 1, 2011 at 5:45 amWhoop! Love it! Right now, I’m just about maintaining my fitness with less than 8 weeks to go! But as soon as that baby is born, there will be re commitment! I can’t wait to run run run and get back to teaching two of my classes I gave up due to the out of control heart rate π

June 1, 2011 at 5:47 amOops.
I had been waiting for a challenge.
This is all food for thought for me.

June 1, 2011 at 5:51 amI’ve been training hard for my Half, so I need to ease up once I make it over that bridge (twice!). But I am excited to switch to some non-running goals. Maybe I can try to get my arms to look like yours after a fitness rut. π

June 1, 2011 at 5:56 amI dont do challenges either – as you say once the challenge is over ……. I will start desiging some work-outs just for me and maybe buy less ice cream?…

June 1, 2011 at 6:22 amCarla, you know I am all about this!!!! I change it up all the time & have thru the years. My bod “talks” to me!!! π
Like you, I don’t do challenges either & I challenge myself enough – bod & mental! π
I change up the food too – maybe not so much adding a bunch of new stuff but how I season or cook, not always eating the same thing each day at the same time – stuff like that.
Love the post!

June 1, 2011 at 9:43 amI’m pledging in my head and my heart. Because this time it’s going deep. It’s more about learning about the record playing in my head than it is about a ‘challenge’. Because that is going to help me get to the same level of maintenance as you.
Cammy@TippyToeDiet says
June 1, 2011 at 9:57 amI’m not a joiner, either. One of the things I learned is that I do best at this by going with my mood of the moment. (Of course, this is my post-entire-life-conversion mood, not the one that would have stayed on the sofa all day.:))
But I have pom-poms and can cheer!

June 1, 2011 at 10:17 amSo lovely…. Alas, never another rut? that would be superhuman I would think. Just for now… Just for now… Just for now… I’m walking to work. And YES I LOVE our tribe – I love the twitter nudges – I love the “let’s do 10 burpees NOW” – I love supporting others!
Thanks again Carla!

June 1, 2011 at 12:16 pmLately, I’ve only been glancing about blogs – not really in the here/now..but today, I read yours. You have articulated everything I have been feeling over the past 2 weeks. Thank you so much for this pledge. I’ve been trying to not beat myself up over what I eat, but I’ve let my eating plans slip. I try to recommit every day but let the NBA finals get in my way. I have found every excuse to not do what I know I need to do. And the scale is showing me that is the lamest excuse in the book. So again, thank you for the pledge.

June 1, 2011 at 11:53 pmLove your pledge! You have such a way with words that is super motivating. I’m not just saying that.
I needed a date to keep me motivated. One I reach that one I’ll set a new one but for now this is my plan to keep FitAfterFitbloggin’ http://www.girl-heroes.com/2011/05/31/fitter-for-the-fourth/ Thanks for the inspiration!

June 2, 2011 at 7:58 amI pledge too!
I love how well you know yourself and how you are willing to do what works for you, but not what doesn’t work, even if others expect it. I’ve come a long way in that area since my guilt-ridden traditional Mennonite (almost Amish) upbringing, but I still have more to learn … thanks for helping me!

June 2, 2011 at 8:46 amI pledge too! I’m going to try Zumba even though I’m super uncoordinated.

June 2, 2011 at 8:58 amI was just talking (read “bitching”) about this very thing last night!! No change in muscle tone/definition and I “wonder why”… Maybe because I’m also in a fitness rut and need to rethink my workout routine.
Thanks for the motivation!!

June 3, 2011 at 11:43 amI didn’t go to Fitbloggin, after I heard about it on twitter I’d love to go next year so I will take your pledge and post it on my blog but not quite yet, it will be up in a few days. It’s my birthday and there are festivities I’m totally taking part in but when that’s done it’s time for 100% focus. Your pledge couldn’t have come at a better time

June 5, 2011 at 5:46 pmCarla, I use your blog to “shake things up” excersize-wise all the time. I’ve done some of the “boot camp” workouts that you blogged about a few months ago or so. And I joined the 5k running course with Up & running online. Which I’ve completed & am now working on their bridge to 10k course. Thanks for the suggestions. You keep me from getting into a rut in the first place!
