and Ill show you the blogger?
Ok, so it doesnt flow quite as well as my fave fave quote: show me the FRIENDS and I’ll show you the WOMAN but you get the idea.
The point of this post is three-fold:
- VOLUNTEER.ย My mother is renown for saying “the best opportunities are outgrowths of volunteer efforts.”ย This could be job-related.ย This could be friendship/relationship related.ย For her the notion crosses all arenas and I have to say Ive found this to be true.ย The writing opportunity I have today is a direct result of volunteer efforts from yesterday.
- WE ARE PERCEIVED TO BE LIKE THOSE WITH WHOM WE SURROUND OURSELVES.ย In this instance Im honored to be listed among highly trained experts & very respected writers & hope ‘outsiders’ view me as one of them.ย In other instances, in my younger days, I made some, uh, poor “surrounding” choices and deserved the assumptions made about me as a result
even though at the time they pissed me off.ย This whole concept—while a semi-complicated one–is something Im already striving to teach the Tornado.ย It’s amazing what assumptions we (the royal) make about people given the crowd they hang with.ย Is this right? I dont know that it is.ย Does it happen?Heck yes.ย This is a notion I think about frequently.
- Im frazzled.ย There are lots of life-things happening right now.ย Some great.ย A few not so.ย Im in a go go go place & either compelled to JETTISON exercise or stop take.a moment. and PRACTICE WHAT I PREACH.ย In a fitting fashion my post today over at the Life…supplemented blogย (managed by the Council for Responsible Nutrition) is about precisely this: fitting fitness into a busy life.ย Im hectic. Im stressed. More than ever I need to be sure I plan in time to workout.
Im over there hanging today.
And Im over here fitting in this:
And this:

do dah dippity.
And taking many many deep breaths.
And you?
It seems we are all jammedslammed this time of year—are you making time to fit in some fitness?
Have you, too, spent time reflecting (hello high school years!) upon the notion of “show me the friends and Ill show you the wo/man?”
Wanna join me in a fittingitin office workout?
please to hit us all up in the comments below…
Congrats Miz!
I am significantly younger than you are and still see this in my life.
I run (pun intended) with a group of crazy girls and people assume I am as they are.
You always make me think.
I’m both inspired and awed by the women I run with, both in bloggerland and in real life. There is NOTHING more powerful than a 50 something woman with some time on her hands and some change in her pocket. Seriously, a force to be reckoned with.
As for exercise – I’ve got a dry erase board in my kitchen upon which I have written: Priorities – Bike whenever possible, all else can fill in the gaps.
I’m in awe of the dips! Maybe one day….
I like your Mama.
When we give of ourselves freely as with volunteering you never know when it can lead.
CONGRATULATIONS on the new position and the badass arms ๐
And I see already in my son the concept of “show me the friends”
I am grateful he has some strong friendships.
Miz… you have a very busy life. Mine’s not so busy, but I fit my exercise in if I incorporate it into my day (lunchtime or after work). If I come home first I’m screwed and can’t get out of the house again.
I’m all about doing something that’s sustainable and this approach is really working for me now. My days (work, commute) etc are long, and this way I have NO excuse!!!
As for surrounding myself with people who inspire me… I have bloggers like you for that! ๐

Very cool! I commented over there as well. I don’t think many people have any clue how hard those dips are….you are strong!!!!
I really like your blog and I think it is very inspiring.
You know, I don’t agree 100%. I think if I had the choice, I’d rather be a Mother Theresa than a Donald Trump. Sure, Trump makes all the money, hangs with successful people who also lick his boots, but who so many agree is a total jerk. Then there was Mother Theresa, who hung with the poor, sick and downtrodden, and was well loved for her kindness and love.
I don’t think it’s WHO you’re in the company of that shows what kind of person you are, but what you’re doing in that person’s company that does.
ok I’m running out but had to respond ๐ I don’t know the Donald but as an outside peeking into his world——it seems who he surrounds himself with are so like he is. A weetad smarmy and superficial ๐

Hearing you on this. I’m just about hyperventilating at the schedule that is before me this week and next. But I have the workouts scheduled ahead of time, so they are getting done. Without them, I couldn’t manage the rest!
I liken exercise to ‘paying myself first’ – if this gets done then the manical, well easier to handle (as well as all those bovines on their way home )
Cheers
Liz;)
PS- I don’t know if we can ever achieve ‘expert’ status. Everytime I think I know it all, I invariably have a setback – therein is my lesson I think!
oops I meant the manical side of my day is easier to handle. Pardon me, was kicked by my sidekick bovine who is telling me to go to bed…
ahahah row row row your band. i love you ๐
I will do dah dippity with you, Mizzy.
LOVE Carla! Hey, I did my dips with weight plates today! ๐
You sure know how to make us think! And yes, I think we are perceived by who we hang with…. CONGRATS to you!
Hope the not so good stuff gets better. HUGS & positive thoughts for you & niece!
I am having trouble restarting after healing from a broken foot! I was a tad obsessive before so it’s kind of strange. I think I just need a kick in the butt…if you can fit it in, surely I can!
I’m actually relieved to know that even you consider ditching a workout when you’re super busy…but inspired that you remember how much it does help, in so many aspects, and then see that you actually do it. ๐
I always go back to the saying we become like the 5 people we are around most. I’ve taken that very seriously this year in my world. I choose to surround myself with positive peeps.
PS you have been there so much for me, let me know if there is ANY way that I can be there for you right now.
To me you are an expert because you are human, Carla.
You don’t know how I appreciate you sharing your shortcomings as well as your biceps LOL
I find that I am less likely to skip my workout if I register for classes, since I don’t want to waste my money. This especially works for classes that get progressively harder, such as kettlebell, where if you miss a few you get really behind everyone else. I am kind of competitive in that way; I don’t like being the worst one in the class.
I’m in a “I gotta say NO” phase. It hurts to say no sometimes, but it’s SO needed right now.
I am working hard at putting exercise as a priority in my life again. I am walking and am blessed to have a track in my back yard. It is 2/10ths of a mile and I am working towards walking a 5K again.
Congrats too Miz!!
I’m definitely going in circles with life right now and trying to cram it all in, but for me fitness is something I don’t negotiate. I need it. Where you have your food dialed in that’s the part that I am probably always going to be a bit of a work in progress on ๐
great tips again as always!!
Once I became used to running in the early morning hours, finding the time became a lot easier for me.
Ever hear the saying, “success breeds success”? If you surround yourself with other successful (happy) people, you in turn will start to feel that as well. And when you feel good, good things happen to you. And yes, good things can keep you insanely busy. ๐
Life is always a rush here. I need that post.
And now we’ll all be singing “row row row your band” the rest of the day ๐ I love it!
I need to take more deep breaths.
Or Valium.
Thanks for this thoughtful post. Working out at work is so not weird any more:)
I love to find healthy ways to get my co-workers together…signed us up for an office race the other day!
Summer here- so teachers are not working. (Taking classes yes, but that’s different!) It’s winding down time for us -but days begin at 4 a.m. to ride/run/whatever because of the heat. Love the afternoon family nap time and more indoor activities like yoga and….WEIGHTS of course!
And really , if one is finding time to read blogs (or write them) its life really that hectic?
First off… LOVE THE PURPLE!
Secondly, great post and you office is all fancy like. ๐
I’m more likely to jettison the dish washing than the exercise. ๐
YES! The hardest part is fitting the HEALTHY LIVING in when life gets crazy and not easy! When it’s just easier to be stressed out, frazzled and give in to junk food and not exercising. But I for one always feel better after I work out or eat something healthy.
I joined you! I was on the playground though instead of the office floor. I like the whole “row, row, row your boat” though. That would go over well here. ๐
I’m lucky for the moment that I seem to be doing good fitting in at 4 workouts a week for the past two weeks and I’m halfway finished with week three!!! I’m also working on the healthy eating aspect and have been doing more better than bad, LOL!
I have to admit I’ve never heard that quote before.
It’s summer! Time to take advantage of the opportunity to be outdoors and MOVE! ๐
