(Which total only 5 because G-d forbid I do things the proper way.)
Blogging, writing, editing, and (for the most part) vlogging are all pretty solitary acts.
I adore what I do.
I can get lonely doing what I do.
(doo be doo be doo)
That’s one of the reasons Im happy to be part of the Fitfluential team.
We support each other and, more than that, we unite to support others.
This post is one of a series of ‘7 fitness tips’ posts we’re all doing and I hope other Fitfluential ambassadors link love their 7 tips posts in the comments.
Me? Im messy. Im sweaty. Im just S.T.A.R.T.ing out.
Please to enjoy:

December 7, 2011 at 2:09 amSo your advice is not to be “super wedded” to old habits. Yet you are super wetted from the Austin rain! Coincidence? And why are you taping by the refrig? Got good stuff in there? May I have it? Love your 7, I mean 5, I mean 12 tips when you add them. Aaaahhh Running sounds easier than all this math

December 7, 2011 at 5:08 amI love how you remind us to take time to celebrate.
I do not have a blog so I hadn’t heard of non-scale victories before.

December 7, 2011 at 5:19 amI needed to hear what you said about setting ourselves up for success.
I tend to find a new workout routine and begin too fast and burn out.

December 7, 2011 at 7:47 amAre you going to be at the Austin marathon in February? I am running my first half with my sister and am so excited!! I have lost 100 pounds over the last year and a half and running a half will be a culmination of a lot of hard work.

December 7, 2011 at 8:15 amStart Small. Amen.
Julie says
December 7, 2011 at 8:43 amThis was perfect for me today. Thank you! I especially needed to be reminded to “start small”. I don’t think that’s in my vocabulary. I also know my limits right now. I was tempted to go back to a studio I was at prior to my surgery but there is NO “smart small” there. (you get a free t shirt if you puke LOL) Well, that and my trainer quit and went back to biochemical engineering….sigh

December 7, 2011 at 1:40 pmThis is the perfect advice for newbies & “oldies” like me!!! I love it Carla. I so agree with it all…. I had to learn these along the way & often I don’t even take my own advice now! 😉

December 7, 2011 at 1:41 pmMy goal is to “try new things”. I’ve been running like crazy (hello – my NSV this year was running my first marathon!) but I’m HORRIBLE about adding in new things. I need to do MUCH more strength training than I do now. (Since I’m currently doing NONE, adding in even 1 day a a week is going to be an improvement).
Starting slow is huge, too. My 14 y.o daughter decided she’s going to run a 5k with me in less than 2 weeks (cuz her dad was gonna run but he’s injured, so she’s taking his bib). She ran 2 miles on Monday and could barely move on Tuesday. Guess I should have coached her a bit more first 🙂
Great post, Carla. Love the vlogs (I should really do more of those myself).
Rhonda says
December 7, 2011 at 1:52 pmI love this.
I’d love a written piece, too, so I can print it.
Thanks Miz.
Andrea@WellnessNotes says
December 7, 2011 at 3:26 pmGreat tips! And all things we all “should” know but so easily “forget”… I especially find the “start slow” difficult at times. I’ve had numerous injuries this year and always seem to think I can start somewhere near where I was before the injury. And it just doesn’t work that way…
Roz@weightingfor50 says
December 7, 2011 at 5:28 pmStart small!!!! Thank you so much for that reminder. It’s so easy to be a “big picture” thinker, not taking baby steps, and celebrating the steps along the way.
KCLAnderson (Karen) says
December 7, 2011 at 5:32 pmThank you thank you THANK YOU!!! I love all of it, but I especially love the part about stopping before you think you should so that your body wants more. I mean, that’s true for beginners and for those who are super fit! And yet so many of us think we’re supposed to kill ourselves with each and every workout. Lately I’ve scaled it back and am seeing interesting (positive) results!
Nicola says
December 8, 2011 at 2:11 amYou’re right ti be careful and start out slow with the running – you don’t want to lose those beeautiful muscles! I’m a runner trying to do more strength training!
