Yes, People, this post is about the soup & the needing of warm foodstuffs in the wintertime (it’s been frickin freezing in Texas lately. What’s the deal with THAT?)—BUT it is also about a competition Progresso is having where you can enter to win a makeover trip to New York City.

(I want to win this, oh faithful readers. I joke, but the top of my head hasnt seen the inside of a hair salon beyond the Cuts which are Super in almost 12 years.)

Ok, maybe I wouldn’t mind winning…. but I live two hours out of the city… sooo how bout you win because I don’t enter, andddd I get to come chill with you in Manhattan.     Okay, it is so freaking cold up here in Wisconsin! Some nights we’d have wind-chills upwards of -30 degrees.

    Anyways, my tip/trick to staying un-frozen is to throw a blanket/bed comforter in the dryer on high and when you hear the buzzer go off at the end of the cycle, make a mad dash to the laundry room and wrap yourself in the warm goodness that is a freshly heated blanket!

    (Or, I guess you could just purchase a heated blanket.)

    I’ve been doing Random Acts of Fitness to stay warm…random kettlebell swings, bike sprints, lunges in short bursts just to warm up! That and lots and lots of coffee!

  6. Hola! I am in Florida. I know my northern friends will think I’m crazy, but this is Florida, people! It is NOT supposed to be 11* when I’m leaving for work! What I’ve done to stay warm is stay inside as much as possible, where a scarf and gloves if I HAVE to go out and when in, I either snuggle with my giant fur baby or my hubby. They both have body temps that would rival someone that has been sitting on the equator!

  9. I would love to win a makeover but I hate those essay entries…so I’ll hope for YOU to win. To keep warm this winter I’ve been doubling up on the blankets and snuggling w/ the hubby & doggie.

  11. We live in a very small 500 sq ft. apartment that is SO old! If the wind blows outside you need to bundle up INSIDE! Out wall heater is in the living room, so we have 2 small heaters scattered. One in the bathroom, and one in the bedroom. I have to put the bathroom heater on 15 minutes before taking a shower or there is NO way I can get naked! lol

    This is the first winter (since losing weight) that I have complained of being cold. I guess that is the side effect that no one tells you about. lol 🙂

    Lots of blankets, lots of layers, slippers and socks- oh and lots of cuddling has made this winter more tolerable.

    Warm Progresso soup would be a perk! 🙂

  12. Lots o’ soup & hot tea. Although we are having a thaw today, over 40!! However, snow is on the way tomorrow night. I’m stuck resting anyways…. had a little surgery yesterday.

  13. To keep warm and kick off my fitness life commitment I have been training to walk a half marathon on my birthday! PLUS I love eating soups and have a plethora of Progresso Light soups in my pantry!

    The Farmer’s Almanac is calling for another 20 inches of snow for us on the 20th of this month (after 3 blizzard like snow storms already) so I could really use some SOUP!

    And no, I don’t live in Minnesota or Colorado…I live in Missouri…and we don’t get these things on a reg basis!! We’re freak’n out!

  14. I keep warm every winter by making big pots of homemade soup!

    This year, I’m living on a vegetarian vegetable- have a bowl almost every day. Talk about a healthy easy way to get more vegetables into my diet!

    (oh summertime, what will I do when you come??)

    That said, it hasn’t been THAT cold in the bay- although we did have snow a few weeks ago. Now what do I do about all the frakkin wet that coming in this week??

  16. I was watching the temp in Texas and Florida etc, when the cold hit here, You have had some cool weather. Come up north if you want to see cold weather. lol
    My cajun Turkey vegetable soup is good on a cold day.

  17. It’s been unseasonably cold here in Virginia. I’ve been doing yoga (at home) to keep warm. I find a good yoga workout really gets me going and ready for more! And on some days, I have my mock “hot yoga” class, where I throw the mat in front of the fireplace and sweat away!

    In the meantime, I’m praying for global warming to kick in!

  19. Mmmm… soup is one of my favorite meals! (But *whispers* can I say this in the comments? I really don’t like the progresso 100 cal soups. So you can exempt me from the contest although the jump rope looks cool!) The way I stay warm in the winter? Lots of Muppet-pelt socks!!! (You knew that was coming…)

  21. Well, I do not live in the crazy east BUT we have had some cold weather for us here in southern CA.

    Me, working out heats me up no matter what the temp is AND I love my heated blanket!

    On the other end, my hot flashes heat me up when I don’t want them to! 🙂

  23. It is not really that cold here right now compared to some years. I am in Ontario, Canada. When I do feel cold I immediately starting doing jumping jacks! Just kidding. Soups are great warmer uppers in my world.

    what I’ve been doing to stay warm.. LAYERS and eating lots of progresso soups prior to my meals.. they help keep me full and from overindulging on the “main” course so to speak..

    Well, I would have to say that our winters average around 70 degrees out in AZ, so I haven’t needed much to keep me warm. My space heater does the trick 🙂

  30. when we got hit w/ the blizzard (middle of VA), my power was out for some time. the heat is electric. after 36 layers and no means of heating up anything, a dead cellphone, no tv, no time piece (yup, all watches had dead batteries), and knowing no one close, i tried to burn a large basket in my fireplace w/ matches. acrylic paint and unknown-material decorative baskets do not burn w/ matches. remained freezing.

  32. Warm? Uhh… what is this “warm” you speak of? I don’t understand the question.

    …but a new mug AND jumping rope may or may not (more likely the former ;)) be an excellent way for this frozen Cancuk to defrost!

    I think the folks at the Food Bank would appreciate the Progresso soup. They need to stay warm, too.

    PS VERY impressed with the ingredients in some of their soups. I approve. Tehe.

  33. i seem to be cold a lot, so i wear tons of layers. even indoors. i wear a fleece thing and a coat on a daily basis. i also drink lots of tea.

    on an unrelated note, i agree with the commenter above me and i’m super glad they finally got rid of the MSG in their ‘low-calorie’ soups in particular.

  34. oh and i forgot to add the waiting-for-the-bus shuffle also keeps me warm though probs looks kind of strange. oh well.

  35. I stay warm at my office by drinking lots of tea, coffee, hot cocoa, and hot cider. I do believe I have a couple of Progresso soups in my drawer as well! I stay active at work by running to the bathroom every 1/2 hour because I’ve had so much warm liquid to drink!

    Seriously. I’m so over winter in Canada. I hear the south of France is nice….

  38. Ok, we aren’t in Canada but Houston has been unusually cold for the season.. Last year was like the coldest and longest winter we ever had! It’s been really difficult to stay warm.. and I’m convinced Global Warming is CRAP! This soup looks delicious, and I could definitely use a makeover!
