First & foremost have you seen what this blogger is doing? pretty ballsy and you *know* we love the chutzpah up in herre.
Stop by & cheer her on if you have a moment!
I also wanted to give you an update on my tattoo-planning since so many of you were kind enough to join in my tremendous Seusscitement last weekend.
I met with my artist, gave her all the images & quotes I’d collected and now we, errr, I wait to see her initial sketch.
Because she said she didnt mind, I plan to post everything as it happens (figuratively not literally. there wont be any monday facetimes with the needle weaving in & out of Miz’ epidermis).
I’ll share the sketch/plans and pictures of the tattoo as it unfurls on my leg. Ive always wondered how larger pieces are put together/mapped out so I figured many of you may be curious as well.
Ill always post them on a weekend so if you’re not intrigued you can feel free to skip or skim.
First thing I learned is that the proper term for what I want is a three quarter pant leg.
Me? I still think I’ll call it a one legged capri tight.
I prefer the lilt of that as it rolls off my tongue when I say: Mom dont freak out but when I see you next I shall be well on my way to a one legged capri tight.
Onward.
A question for you regarding something Ive been pondering:
FREEBIES.
What are your thoughts, oh Bumbling Band, when you bump up against the same freebies promoted (at different fitness sites) repeatedly?
Is it a WOO HOO! Another chance to win!! or more of a Great googly moogly, People. This again?!
There’s no right or wrong answer (I still have the treats to give whether you feel the former or the latter) I’m just curious.
And, lastly, this (please to click upon for larger image):
Have you seen this print ad yet?
The first time I saw it I rolled my eyes at the very notion they’d merely print the word BLOGWORTHY and expect us bloggers to take the time to spread the word about their product for free.
The next time I saw the ad it was all over.
It so irritatedmestuckinmymind I whipped out the sidekick & took a picture for (alltogethernow) a blog post.
Here’s to you, Deli Creations People, you achieved your goal.
Cammy says
January 10, 2009 at 4:05 amYou sure you don’t want me to run down there with my markers so you can avoid all this needle business? I could study up on this pant leg thing and probaby come up with a pretty good imitation.
Re: freebies – Repeats don’t bother me unless it’s a product I don’t like. If it’s a mini-pc or a netbook, there can’t BE enough chances to win. Until I finally win one. π
Re: Deli meat – On the bright side, it’s a nod to the power of the blogger to be a targeted audience like that.
Have a happy weekend!

January 10, 2009 at 4:09 amThanks for the link… I like her site and have subscribed to her blog.
As for the free stuff – you’re talking about the Mary-Lou Retton platform, right? That thing would drive insane. I’d hit it with a hammer within a week…

January 10, 2009 at 4:39 amHey Miz,
Excited for you on the tattoo can’t wait to see the pictures!
Cool on the CNN Blog, you never know what door is going to open for you when you put yourself out there.
As for freebies, I’m grateful for anything that anybody wants to give away!! π
FLG says
January 10, 2009 at 4:45 amI’ve always been interested in the tattoo process, so it’s cool that you and the artist are going to let us in.
When it comes to repeated freebies… like Cammie said, if I didn’t win it the first time, and I still want it, i don’t mind π
And that ad is just great π You either think it’s so great it’s worth blogging about, or you hate it so much your blog about it π

perhaps (cue music which indicates NOVEL!IDEA!AHEAD!) not do so much for *free* for companies?
(please to discuss)
Hanlie? you made me laugh (and plead the 5th). not just the scale —- but in general.
and Nat & FLG good to know that you are as Id be: BRING ON THE FREE.
some days I do think: CR*P I STILL HAVE THAT TO GIVE AND THE TOPIC HAS BEEN BEATEN TO DEATH.
I cant lie.

January 10, 2009 at 5:09 amI am really excited to follow your tattoo process and journey.
I have always been afraid of the needle but like the look of art (when it is art as there are some bad tattoos out there) when it is on other people.
I agree with the others as free is always good in my book.
I will be honest and say that when I see items again and again I tend to not read posts and skip to the enter to win part.
It helps that you do creative presentations because while I will sometimes skim I don’t always.
(I’m honest!)

January 10, 2009 at 7:09 amVery intrigued by the tat process! The Boy has two, but nothing as gargantuan as you’re going for. So exciting!
As for the giveaways, they only ever elicit sinful feelings of envy due to my ineligibilty to win anything….

January 10, 2009 at 7:19 amYay for tatts! Just do it sober. That’s my only advice. Not that I’d know from first-hand experience….
And the MaryLou thing is, yeah, not novel anymore. And here I thought I was unique :*(
BUT…the deli thing made me throw up a littlel (and not because I’m a vegetarian). Of course, if setan or soy cheese makers want to throw their stuff my way, I’d “review” it. I’m a blogger who can be bought on some things. hehe

January 10, 2009 at 7:29 amWhy would somebody be such a pre-transformation Grinch* or Scrooge* as to complain about FREEBIES? If you’re not interested, just do a little more work with that scrolling finger.
*I specify “pre-transformation”, because I’ve noticed something: How come when people call somebody a Grinch or a Scrooge, They’re always referring to the BEFORE, and not AFTER the transformation, huh?

And it just occurred to me that I (we? Anyone wanna join my ludditenessment admission?) may not be as much a DINOSAUR as I’d thought!

I made up my own workout plan from those and from Shape magazine.
Just an idea.
Happy Saturday all!

January 10, 2009 at 7:56 amYou may not have been refering to a scale, but we are! Seeing it 3 times (I’m sure there’s more) made me more confused about it. Now, some of the other stuff…I say give away all that you want! Especially those high ticket items that some of us can’t afford without trying it first. It makes the other multiple freebies worth it. Besides, free is free. Beggers. Choosers. you go it π
I can’t wait to see it! That’s quite a large piece. How exciting! I thought you’d get something small and hidden. lol. No clue where I got that from. You got me excited to get my next one! But, I haven’t found the right pic yet.

PS – Maggie isn’t new; she has a ferocious beast that says great googly-moogley, which also isn’t new, as my HS English teacher used to say it like 30 -aaack- years ago.

January 10, 2009 at 8:36 am1. WOW – that is crazyamazing what happened to that blogger when her vid went viral. I’m totally cheering her on! CNN? Love it!
2. OF COURSE I want to see every bit of your tat progress. Can I ask for video? I would love to see video. Fascinating. Especially one so large. I’ve seen smaller ones done (actually did the art myself, once) but never one this large.
3. I don’t know that I’m qualified to comment on the freebies as I’m part of the problem;) But I HOPE our combined readers are excited about the opportunities rather than irritated. Please do let me know what the consensus here is.
4. That inane deli creations ad even made it into a Sarah Haskins video!! It’s officially jumped the shark.

January 10, 2009 at 8:42 amWow, so amazed at the extent of the tat. I’m thinking something a couple *inches* for myself, and sounds more like you are talking FEET. Wow!
Freebies? All about the freebies. If I’m not interested in the freebie, i just don’t comment/don’t enter. Simple.
Love that the marketers got you with that ad. Works on me too at times.
Valerie says
January 10, 2009 at 8:43 amFirst, I cannot WAIT to see the tat-in-progress pictures! Very exciting. I shall stay tuned (well, I always do anyway, but even more) with anticipation.
I am in the minority as I don’t remember my tat being all that painful – but then it’s small, and one-color, and I had plenty of fat padding there at the time. I’ve been told that the less fat there is, the more painful, though I don’t know how true that is. Feedback? (I need to know this, as my next one won’t have NEARLY as much padding, so I need to know what to expect.) But, like you, I wanted it badly enough that I’d have gritted my teeth and Lamaze-breathed my way through it, I think. After childbirth, what’s a few needles? (…she said with false bravado.)
Secondly, freebies are always good, no matter how many places are offering them. π
Thirdly, the ad is a bit arrogant, but as you said, they did achieve their goal, didn’t they? No such thing as bad publicity, as the saying goes. Heh.
V.

January 10, 2009 at 8:55 amI am SO intrigued by your upcoming tattoo! Can’t wait to see it unfold here!
And for the same freebie over and over again, I’m usually excited to have more opportunities to win AND thinking great googly moogly!

January 10, 2009 at 9:02 am*shakes fist at deli creations people*
When I see the same freebies over again I usually get excited that there’s another chance to win. Although when it’s for something like food with HFCS or hydrogenated oil or any other unhealthy ingredient in it, that bothers me, because then food products are getting promoted even though they’re just processed junk.
Books/natural food/clothes/exercise equipment etc etc, I LOVE all of that:D Bring on the giveaways!
Also no Monday Facetime of MizFit’s tattooing process? Aw π Can’t wait to hear all about it! Just how long is it going to take?

January 10, 2009 at 9:02 amBeing ineligible for most of the giveways, I don’t really care one way or the other. (Well, occasionally I care, if it’s something I really would like and can’t have…..~~sigh~~)

January 10, 2009 at 9:03 amOMG The tattoo day is so soon?! How cool!! I can’t wait to see pictures!

POD says
January 10, 2009 at 9:06 amYou have the right kind of leg for one of those tattoos. I’m assuming that because you have seen so many pictures of me that somewhere in your design will be an image of my smiling face.
Freebies I don’t mind as long as I win some. Also it depends on who’s advertising. In the old days Philip Morris gave mini packs of ciggies away.
Where does the blog end and the advertising begin? I hope the blogosphere doesn’t let too many corporate sponsors take over this world too. I don’t think any lunch meat is worth blogging about in a positive way unless you’re giving out recipes.
Early here. Today I finally get my ellipitcal. Yay.

January 10, 2009 at 9:32 amAds make the world go round (not that I totatlly agree that we need all the crap that companies are trying to tell us we need.) January 10, 2009 at 9:59 amTotally intrigued by the tat process. Something I can’t imagine. Do they line in the whole thing, then come back with color? Do they do one whole part and keep moving down and away from start? Will find out, won’t I?
Freebies. If I want it, more showing it are other chances for me to not win. It’s great awareness marketing for the companiesl-it builds community and followers for the blogger. And some lucky ducks actually win something. All good. If I don’t want it, I simply don’t enter to win.
About BlogWorthy. So many foodies blog their meals, that it’s rather nice that a company acknowledges it. Suggests it. Expands the idea of blogging our lives to the little details.
But, yeah, the savvy company now – and the savvy blogger – would some kind of exchange for doing so. (says she who is about to start exercising the template from a book without getting anything more out of it than a bunch of workouts.) Yeah. What I say, not what I do.
MizFit says

Kel? You’re on.
I used to say to Ren Man that I’d so get a biga** tattoo if I were ever ‘really’ a writer.
If I knew I’d never have a traditional office job because my writing had taken off (then I moved to Austin, got older, & decided screw waiting).
That shall be my new plan.
Like a friend I have who swum in the olympics & got the rings tattoo’d on her ankle—-if MizFit reaches mindblowingpervasivenessinthefitnessrealm a Seal of Approval tattoo it is.

January 10, 2009 at 10:00 amI tend to ignore posts on the same freebies that I’ve seen a lot of. If I’ve read a review once, that’s generally enough for me. But, blogs have different readers, so I might see something 5 times, but someone else might only see it once. Or vice versa.

I think it’s great when people offer freebies – and I don’t care if it’s the same thing over and over again. If it’s health related, the more the better! If it’s stuff people just don’t want but want to pass it on to someone who may enjoy it, great! I think it’s just great that people want to give. And of course, I loved the quaker gift I got from you! We’ve started buying oatmeal on a regular basis now because of that gift. So thanks again!

January 10, 2009 at 7:14 pmI can’t wait to see your tat project as it progresses! I have 3 already and at least 2 more planned, one of which will probably be fairly large. I want to get an iris & hummingbird piece as a memorial to my late grandmother. I also want to have either the Chinese symbol for Dragon or an actual medieval dragon since I was born in the Year of the Dragon.
I haven’t regretted any of my tats because they all mean something special to me. I did wait until I was *ahem* a bit older before getting any of mine. I was 40 when I got my first one. I got the other two within the next 18 months after the first.
I thought it was quite the compliment recently when one of the 20-something guys that I work with said, “You know, you’re cooler than a lot of my friends that are my own age.” π Then again, given that I’ll be 45 in about 6 weeks, have a nose ring, 3 tats, and am an avid fan of rap/urban music, I might fit in better with his crowd than people my own age. π

January 11, 2009 at 7:36 amOh my, you’re getting a 3/4 leg tatoo! May I just say, ouch!
A coworker of mine has had half of his body tatooed, from his neck down to his ankle. He showed me some of it (with the underwear on, of course). It is just about the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. It’s taken hundreds of hours under the needle and thousands of dollars, but is a beautiful piece of artwork.
I can’t wait to see yours. I wish I was braver, but I can’t stand pain in any shape or form. I’m a major wimp. I’ll have to live vicariously through you on this one. π

January 11, 2009 at 7:39 amI, too, think the full suits when done well with a talented artist are stunning.
yesterday I saw a few women with facial piercings and thought: huh. dont love that.
it was the first time I GOT IT about tattoos as well.
piercings dont do it for me at all—-but are amazingly beautiful to many people.
my AH HA! ‘my leg shall not be lovely to the masses yet Im still so seusscited to get started’ moment if you will…

I think freebies are fun; I don’t usually win them (or the lottery either -dang it!) but, I’ll keep tryin π
That deli creations ad was interesting! Giving the blogworld a shout-out π

January 11, 2009 at 11:00 amLOL Miz! It is in the same e-mail to which you responded. I am not a very succinct writer. I sent you another one.
I am now intrigued by tattoos. Never have considered them in my life. I am afraid it would hurt like ….
I think I am too wimpy.

January 11, 2009 at 12:18 pmMaybe I shouldn’t say this but I think tats like that look freakish! I’m sorry, not trying to hurt your feelings (don’t think I could anyhow), but why, oh why would you want to walk around with something like that on your leg?!
MizFit says
January 11, 2009 at 12:31 pmlove that you said that, Angel!
Im drawn to them for some reason.
I love how one can chronicle life’s up & downs & sideways turns all in art on the skin.
A way to trace my own growth (and at times stagnation and backsliding) in a permanent fashion.
and I agree wholeheartedly that it’s a like or dislike thing—no gray area with the ink.

January 11, 2009 at 4:12 pmI don’t mind the same give-aways all over blogdom.
The ad doesn’t bother me either. It just shows that the ad agencies are aware of how important blogging has become.
Thank you for allowing us to follow your tattoo experience. I’m really interested, at least in part because my son is a tattoo artist, but also because you’re a mature, intelligent person whom I respect. Your perspective on this will be really informative.

January 11, 2009 at 4:58 pmThanks so much for asking the Freebie question–I’ve been wondering/worrying about the same thing.
We often all get the same PR pitches, and it’s discouraging to agree to one, then find out it’s been done to death already.
I think one thing readers might not know is how absolutely DREADFUL some of the stuff we get offered–they only see the relatively “good” giveaways.
I also wonder if readers know that those of us who do BlogHer can’t keep anything ourselves if it’s worth more than about 40 bucks? So we’re just as jealous of the winners as anyone else. Hell, I’d love a pair of running shoes or a fancy HRM or a bike or a Vitamix–but can’t get ’em myself, can only give them away.
If they were straight out ads, we might at least make a couple of bucks, but we write about this stuff for free.
(Now I’m wondering why the heck I’ve been doing so many of them??!!)

Freebies. Sometimes its annoying, but I honestly don’t mind because if its something I want I appreciate the multiple chances to win. π

January 11, 2009 at 5:16 pmHi! Happy New Year! I saw the comment you left on Lance’s site. I LOVE the way you treat your husband. So important! I’ve been there, with the babysitter that I couldn’t afford, but then friends would always remind me that it’s much cheaper than a divorce! Hope you have a great time!

As for freebies, I think it’s great of you and others to do that and the more the better.
Cool about Kim and her new found fame.
