(As in really really post-race.ย Pre-shower.)
My initial thoughtsย about yesterday’s runtastic experience.
And yes, perhaps to your chagrin, a longer post is coming later Im sure.
Forย today Im off to play grownup in Disney (which is, indeed, an oxymoron).

March 8, 2010 at 2:26 amWell done! Mazel tov! Congrats! Woo hoo!
Miz, I think you should be VERY proud of yourself. I’m proud of you (which makes me feel like my mother, which I’m not so upset about actually).
I’m in awe of you. All the time.
You are awesome, in every sense of the word.

March 8, 2010 at 3:19 amWell done Miz! We all knew you could do it. You look very fresh on the video … not at all like you’ve just run a half marathon!
I’m betting those thoughts are creeping into your head now … “I’ve done a half, how hard could a full marathon be?” ๐

March 8, 2010 at 5:34 amCongratulations! I LOVE how candid you are about it being long and boring! Best 2 min. of video ever. And you do not look like you were post race.
I hear you on not doing the marathon. Just had a friend do a half and say 10 mi. was good for her, anything longer is one mile too long.lol So the halfs are out for her never mind the full. Great job none-the-less, that was no small feat! WOOHOO!!:o)

Well, not sure it means Im running another step (I kid you not about needing to mull all this over!) but Im not too sore this morning.
Im still a buffoon ๐ when it comes to training for this whole thing (dont ever be me) as I never ran outside—-but I made it through ok so far.

I’m not a “runner” either, so I’m really impressed with you stepping up and going for it!! I just ran my third race on Saturday. It was a 5K. I don’t train for them, but like you say I really like the comraderie, and the early morning being out and something fun.

Now I better go check on the ipod rule because I can’t workout without music so I don’t know how I would make it 13.2 miles running without it.
You totally inspire me!

March 8, 2010 at 10:21 amI was really disappointed by the half marathon we ran in Disney. There is a LOT of highway, and you’re right, NOT a lot of spectators! You should do another race soon in your town… there are sure to be lots of spectators (the Philly half had a bazillion!)
JewliaGoulia says
March 8, 2010 at 10:25 amMiz, congrats on completing!
I seriously appreciate how honest you are! In my mind, I say. . . “Ya, a 5k, I could do it someday.” That’s true I COULD (will) be able to do it, but will I WANT to.
Sorry about the ipod/no ipod “rule” mix-up, that sucks. I would die without my tunes. Okay, maybe not die, but I would be less than motivated to run.
Whether or not you enter a “run” again, you can chock this up as another experience in life. ๐
You are one amazing lady!

March 9, 2010 at 7:06 ammy gawd, how do you manage to look so good after running a race like that? i look like a train wreck afterwards.
congrats on accomplishing what you set out to do!
yes, those miles without spectators make the race seem longer, but i’m sure the parts where there were spectators helped give you some wind at your back.
well done!
Katie says
March 9, 2010 at 7:07 amCongratulations! It stinks that it wound up being boring and left you wondering if you’d do another. I ran the regular Disney half in 2005 and there were almost no spectators, so I understand. And the headphone thing is so silly, everyone wears headphones for the long races! You mention maybe running 5k’s rather than sticking with halfs. I think the best way to stay interested in running is changing it up. 5K’s, 10K’s, 10 milers, and halfs are all great races. They’re all a little different. Also, it sounds like you trained mostly on the treadmill? I have a treadmill and love it, but learning to love running will be difficult to do on a treadmill. I’m already madly in love with running, so treadmill running gets me my fix, but running outside is where the magic is…
