I have to say I do….and I do not.
I do unplug from work emails (to my editorS’ chagrin Im sure. I will sometimes read the messages so I know what to expect come Monday morning, but if I work all weekend I find Im completely useless come the aforementioned Monday morning).
Blog-surfing?
Not so much.
For reasons I detailed here (at the beginning. I know. this whole link is prideful yet Im…filled with pride. so there you have it.) I actually LIKE to be connected & ride the wave of YOUR motivation all.weekend.long.
Sometimes I will chime in.
Sometimes I will just see what ya’ll are doing and that alone gits me to tear myself away from Bravo and out of the house and moving.
but always?
Yeah. Im semi-plugged in for the fitness motivation of it all.
You?
Please to hit us all up in the comments.
You know, unless you’re already unplugged in which case, uh, we’ll see you Monday.

January 15, 2011 at 2:08 amHonestly, I don’t unplug on the weekends. It’s hard for me to write fiction by hand because my hand hurts after five minutes of writing. And I often use internet for motivation, communication with other writers and even write directly to a web site called writing.com, where I store my works in progress. It may be a lot of sitting online, but then again I get to do a 10k writing challenge over the weekend with a writer/agent. There are benefits.
Just need to make sure I move around during the weekend too.

January 15, 2011 at 4:34 amI loVe where you say that in social media people meet you where you are, Miz.
That’s why I don’t unplug. I don’t have that IRl.

January 15, 2011 at 4:51 amLove what Loretta said! Me too, I unplug, but I’m here at 5:45 Saturday morning.
I thought your title meant unplugging from our healthy eating and moving plans! I have done that in the past but am hoping to stay plugged into myself, at least this weekend, if not the blog world. But I don’t think about my job one little bit!
Sarah says
January 15, 2011 at 5:08 amI just started tweeting and I like this idea you mention:
“Some use it solely for tweeting what they eat. That’s their whole account; they don’t really interact with people from that account, but it’s a form of accountability with people they never ever have to see.”
I hadn’t thought about using twitter that way.
Heck no I don’t unplug on the weekends!
What if you write a blog post? LOL
Jules - Big Girl Bombshell says
January 15, 2011 at 5:28 amNope..don’t unplug..its when I have the time to write and surf and socialize. I am in this for support AND honestly when the routine of school, job, etc changes on the weekends I NEED the support more than ever…

January 15, 2011 at 5:41 amI don’t even know how to spell disco what? It’s important to take breaks of course, but where else can you get information so efficiently. Remember “I want my MTV”? Yeah.

January 15, 2011 at 5:44 amI don’t post anymore and enjoy having a few days off. But I am still out here reading and commenting and maybe tweeting a bit. I like that there are less posts all around on the weekends; it is relaxing somehow. Have a great weekend – unplugged or not:)
Natalie says
January 15, 2011 at 5:57 amLOL at Sarah about you and blogging.
I unplug more during my hectic week and check BACK IN on weekends.
Reen says
January 15, 2011 at 6:03 amNope, not unplugged here on weekends. I NEED the motivation MOST on weekends. I have always in the past “unplugged” from my fitness routine on weekends, but I’m thinking that this weekend is the weekend I’m going to change that. Although I do normally skate on weekends for a 3 hour session, but somehow, that is so much fun for me that it doesn’t count as a workout. Don’t know. Anyway, I’m going to be heading to the gym either today or tomorrow, depending on how busy I get this morning, and get a workout in. Hoping that will help keep me focused more over the weekend.

January 15, 2011 at 6:20 amchecking in and laughing. apparently Im unplugging this morning as the Tornado is already yell: let’s get this party started!
Ive no clue where she’d EVER get that from…
Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind says
January 15, 2011 at 6:53 amI’m VERY plugged in – TOO plugged in some would say – almost always. I work online, and spend a lot of my free time online. The key for me is where I’m focusing my attention. I try to avoid most work-related things over the weekend, but blogs, interesting articles, etc. are how I WANT to spend my time, so the never-unplugged thing doesn’t really bother me.
Stacie says
January 15, 2011 at 7:51 amI love this!
I am plugged in but in a different way thank during my work week.
I ready blogs and borrow motivation when I need it.
Happy weekend!
Coco says
January 15, 2011 at 8:17 amI am almost always plugged in and draw energy, motivation and support from my on-line friends and my IRL friends that I connect with on-line. I try to ignore work emails on weekends, but sometimes I tackle work projects “so Monday won’t suck,” especially if my “boys” (husband and son) are watching football all afternoon.
Ron says
January 15, 2011 at 9:05 amI have just been unplugged for about a week, blogs, twitter, emails…etc…. not sure I am ready to jump back in yet… I have twitter and read others tweets all the time, but don’t tweet a whole lot myself. Work has seemed to take up so much more of my time in the past few weeks.
Sheri says
January 15, 2011 at 9:05 amI love to read my blogs! I never unplug except for work on weekends. 🙂
Cammy@TippyToeDiet says
January 15, 2011 at 9:33 amSome weekends I do, some I don’t. It depends on my schedule, the weather, and to some degree, how caught up I am on my reading and email. I limit FB and twitter to 15 minutes/day MAX, so it’s not like I’m unplugging from a lot. 🙂
Lori (Finding Radiance) says
January 15, 2011 at 10:12 amI unplug a little. I don’t normally write a blog post on Saturdays as my way of unplugging. I do like to spend a little time commenting more on the weekends on blogs I normally just read without saying much if I can. I actually used to work on Sundays (until as of this week) and only had Saturday off, so I don’t know as unplugged for a whole weekend really applied. Now that I don’t have to work on Sundays, I’ll have to see.
I just like reading blogs and surfing the net, though. That can be down time for me.

January 15, 2011 at 11:40 amGreat article!
Or I’d say that if I weren’t unplugged for the weekend 😉

January 15, 2011 at 11:51 amI have my Saturday Funny which is fun to post but I stopped the Sunday stuff unless something important comes up. I do get on & read & comment here & there depending on my time…. I think I need to unplug more! I get burned out.
OH, Carla, you must read my Saturday Funny today! 🙂

January 15, 2011 at 11:55 amI would like to, but my schedule is so crazy during the week that weekends are the only time I would be able to get my net time in 🙂
This is why some days I can be a comment maven or a dark lurker in the blogosphere.
Fran says
January 15, 2011 at 12:39 pmI don’t unplug totally at the weekend. During the day I do other things but early in the evening I catch up on blogs since I’m sometimes too busy on weekdays to read everyone’s blogs.
I try to unplug one evening on a weekday which I use to watch tv shows I recorded or watch a movie or just read.
There was a time I was online almost 24/7 but that didn’t make me happy and I cut back, the past year I cut back my online time even more and now I enjoy it instead of the feeling I had to be online.
Drazil says
January 15, 2011 at 2:47 pmI read on the weekends but don’t post….it’s just the routine I have. No real reason….

January 15, 2011 at 4:49 pmTotally plugged in all the time. I don’t understand the unplugging on the weekend thing since this is not my work, this is my social, my support, my fun. I am plugged!! (so if you are lonely, don’t hesitate to shout out!)
Melody says
January 15, 2011 at 5:01 pmPlugged in. For all the reasons you mentioned in the article.

January 15, 2011 at 5:17 pmI don’t completely unplug, but I’m not on nearly as much on the weekends as I am during the week. I don’t think I’d mind completely unplugging for a day, I just haven’t tried yet 😛
Kerri O says
January 15, 2011 at 5:24 pmIt changes. Lately it seems I’m around a lot monday, tuesday, and wednesday, then less thursday and friday and sort of hit and miss on the weekends. I do make a point to unplug completely nightly for a period of time. Family time. Occasionally I do this for entire days, or entire weekends, to recharge and focus on my family. I do a lot of my post writing on the weekends. And write the occasional rambling comment…like this one 😉
Get A 6 Pac says
January 15, 2011 at 7:28 pmNope not at all, I try and work weekends too.
Joyce Cherrier says
January 15, 2011 at 7:41 pmI check in and out on weekends. It’s the only real time together we have as a family unit so that’s the priority. Some weekends I’m on twitter a lot, some weekends just a bit, but I’m always peeking in!

January 15, 2011 at 7:42 pmUse a chat room to keep me from napping and becoming a slug.
Also, if i miss a day checking email or anything, it piles up. Have to catch up a little on the weekend.

January 15, 2011 at 8:49 pmI unplug from nothing. I spend less time online on weekends but unless Iam on vacation I remain wired to all things home, work, family, friends etc. whether it be plugged or not.
Janice - The Fitness Cheerleader says
January 15, 2011 at 8:57 pmI skim twitter all weekend, and write most of my blog posts for the week on Sundays while hubby has the girls at gymnastics. I try to be only semi-connected most of the time, with the exception of 45min each night (I’m not a TV watcher).
Shelley B says
January 15, 2011 at 9:05 pmI don’t feel the need to unplug, but I already self-limit by not doing the Twitter. I think if I did that, I’d feel the need to unplug more often.
Ava says
January 16, 2011 at 4:18 amI don’t unplug so much as get more selective.
During the week I will read blogs at work, but on the weekend I try to focus on my family and only ready my faves 🙂

January 16, 2011 at 6:35 amI am not totally unplugged. I catch up with my friends on Saturdays on FB commenting on long series of notifications. And on Sunday, I only get to read posts and blogs late at night after our cell group church study. This year my new year’s resolution is to stay unplugged on social medias on weekdays, and so far I am struggling with it…

January 16, 2011 at 7:19 amI just limit it to the weekends. If I’m having an off day or just need to unplug I will. Family is way more important then the internet to me!

January 16, 2011 at 7:01 pmI should unplug more than I do! To be honest though, my week is spent running around from 5AM to 8 or 9 PM. Sometimes its nice just being a veg on my couch w/ the laptop and reading things online.
I also find writing in my blog more of a relaxing/therapeutic activity so I don’t feel like I’m working when I write in it!

January 17, 2011 at 12:05 amIt’s 1am on Monday morning and I’m right now working and plugged in! (thank you, dear coffee…”yawn”..wait! where’d that come from?)
I go with the flow on all days except Friday night. On that night I don’t touch the laptop at all. It’s my couch-azzing night. I need that precious time to misfunction normally.

January 17, 2011 at 7:25 amSimilar to you, I unplug from work but not as much from the blogosphere… although, these days I seem to only be on the Internet over the weekend long enough to write Monday’s blog post, tweet once or twice, and maybe check e-mails briefly. And honestly… I kind of like that break from the computer 🙂
JavaChick says
January 17, 2011 at 8:17 amI do – mainly because I’m usually busy doing other things. Usually mundane things like cleaning the house and grocery shopping and laundry – all those things I don’t have time for during the week. I will likely check personal email once or twice, facebook once or twice, maybe write a blog post if I can squeeze it in…So not completely unplugged but it’s enough to feel like a break from the computer.

January 17, 2011 at 9:16 amI stay semi plugged on the weekends. I check in on what you guys are saying on Twitter, but most of the time I remain fairly quiet and just be. Our weekends are family time and while that doesn’t really exclude being connected, I find I’m a bit less interested with my loves sitting next to me. 😉

January 17, 2011 at 5:00 pmHey Miz, do you ever surf past my blog? i have been unplugging on weekends. Not entirely, but I don’t sit in front of the computer at all. Anything I do is from my phone, so it is really just goofing around a little. I would love to take one day completely off. And maybe I just will sometime soon!

January 18, 2011 at 8:54 amIt’s funny because I really enjoy my online time but I’m also learning that I’m not in balance with it. Sigh… so I’ve been unplugging a lot more lately – it is uncomfortable – but as my empty nest approaches, I continue to seek balance with work, “try” to adopt a more healthy lifestyle, and figure out who the heck I am LOL, I think it will be nice. Gosh, it can’t be a bad thing to develop other hobbies besides twitter, right? I’ll keep you posted though because the jury is still out LOL.

January 19, 2011 at 10:15 pmI’m semi-plugged in on weekends. There’s usually a ton going on in the Fit Mom household. Fit Boy scooting around causing mayhem, me going swimming and trying to muster up the motivation to do something active that reeks of awesomeness and not-so-fit Husband watching sports. I like to stay plugged in because I miss the motivation, chatter, goings-on when I don’t.
