Dizclaimer: This post was totally written ahead of time. As in WAY.
As in Ive not even left for BlogHer yet let alone experienced the bloggin’ mayhem which I’m certain was Chicago.
That sleep-deprived post comes tomorrow.
Until then—a question from you:
I’m curious, where did your name come from? I get it: Miss. Fit but how did you pick it?
To my surprise people frequently ask me this question.
My intent was a play on the words: Miss. Fit & misfit (Im more the latter than the former. hang out with me in real life and you’ll quickly agree).
And yes.
I went through many, many incarnations before settling on MizFit.
My favorite and the one which received a resounding NO WAY! from friends and family? SISYPHIT.
Get it? Because staying fit, healthy & balanced so resembles the myth of Sisyphus?
Yeah.
They didnt like it either.
At all. The most vocal of the bunch repeatedly stated it reminded her of a venereal disease (I have classy friends.).
That’s me. More misfit than Miss. Fit.
Now you.
How did you choose your blog name?
If you’re not yet blogging but use an alias when you comment—- what made you select that?
(and did you, initially, select one which closely resembled an STD as I did? Please to normalize for me in the comments.)
(awkward segue. embrace it. I know it’s why you love me.)
Originally I’d planned to merely give a shout out of thanks to the folks at V-Trim and be done with the giveaway.
I was just gonna cut & paste the cover, share how they appreciated all your comments and state how they contacted me about giving away a copy of the Eating Well cookbook.
Oh, and they offered to send me one.
And I freakin adored it.
What had I expected? A cookbook with a handful of recipes Id actually attempt and a few I might pass on to more motivated-in-the-kitchen friends/family.
What did I recieve? A cookbook, a journal, a workout guide, grocery shopping tips, sample menus, fantastic exercises for working through emotional stumbling blocks with regards to healthy living, amazing photographs of the foods I *will* actually attempt to create, ideas for ways to overcome emotional eating, tips for squeezing in exercise into hectic schedules….
You get the idea.
I was entirely blown away by the book.
Call me MizCynic but Id expected a VTrim promotional piece & received a comprehensive seven step program guide to getting healthy & staying that way.
(*insert sappy music here & a montage of MizFit skipping through a meadow with her Eating Well book*)
And no.
To clarify: Much to my chagrin They’ve neither hired me nor am I getting paid for this endorsement *and* you need only to comment to be entered to win.

Mary @ A Merry Life says
July 27, 2009 at 2:10 amI’ve actually been thinking and trying to remember my exact process since I had to throw out my blog name so often this past weekend.
I chose my blog name after I decided I know longer wanted to be tied to either location or my size. When I first began I blogged under “Losing in Memphis” but switched to “A Merry Life” because it represented the end result more than the process (well, process too). It is a constant reminder of my daily and long term goal of living healthy and being happy with who and where I am in life. Sometimes I debate on changing it because of branding, but I never will because it has a lot of personal meaning. Plus it plays off my name which is fun since it is a personal blog.
(And don’t count me as an entry for the giveaway – I would not use a cookbook except to kill bugs or for another improper and wasteful use.)

July 27, 2009 at 2:24 amLol I like it… but I love MizFit (the name and the lady)… I picked mine because I was pretty much always “vegging out” on the couch, I mean I picked games for the kids I took care of that meant the least “off couch time” but I traded it in for “vegging out” in the kitchen and raiding the produce drawer on the regular

July 27, 2009 at 4:04 amI chose my blogname/pseudonym because it described me at the time, but also by making those words a part of my identity, they were words other people couldn’t use against me because I’d already claimed them. Sort of a pre-emptive strike.

July 27, 2009 at 4:23 amHi I am Nancy and I have no blog and zero creativity!

I, too, am fascinated by the names people choose but mine is pretty damn self explanatory 🙂
hope the conference was fun Miz!
Yum Yucky says
July 27, 2009 at 4:23 amI…am…Yum Yucky. And so glad the domain for “TasteBuds.com” was already taken because that was a bad first choice.
I chose Yum Yucky because it sums up the good, the bad and the ugly of fitness and food.
Now what’s for breakfast???

July 27, 2009 at 4:29 amWhat a great idea for a post. Well…..when I was in 6th grade we got AOL. My dad was working with me to try to figure out a screen name and we some how came together and thought itzybitzy because I have always been really tiny. My dad mistyped the name and my screen name became itzybizy. A lot of my friends started calling me Itzy and its just kind of stuck 😉

July 27, 2009 at 4:31 amI am totally changing now and shall use an “alias” 🙂
I have really wondered before when people comment how on earth they came up with their names (Baglady??) now I want a cool one too.
I for one love SISYPHIT!!

July 27, 2009 at 4:49 amI get asked why “Iateapie” for a website name too – especially when it has to do with dieting – I don’t remember!!! I think I went through a lot, remembered the movie “American Pie” where it was a nickname for the fraternity – and went with that. Plus I have a funky sense of humor 🙂
Mara @ What's for Dinner? says
July 27, 2009 at 4:50 amOk, I love the sisyphit name… but then we’d have to call you Sisy instead of Miz… hmm..
Anyway, I knew I wanted to call my blog “what’s for dinner” but “whatsfordinner.wordpress.com” was taken. So I did “I Made Dinner” and it kinda stuck…even though i write about eating out too.
Fitarella says
July 27, 2009 at 4:54 amI chose Fitarella for a few reasons…it reminded me of Cinderella and how she transforms physically into a princess, transforms back and then is finally able to live being herself and be loved as herself. Too loaded? Maybe. But it has a lot to do with growing up overweight and then “transforming” later in life. Another reason is to me it just sounds sassy & fun and I had visions of walking on the treadmill drinking pink champagne 🙂

July 27, 2009 at 5:00 amI’m game for that book! From your description it sounds great 🙂
A reader actually suggested “Balancing Act” as the name for my new blog when I switched over from the old one (Trying For A Tri wasn’t really applicable once I finished my triathlon!). I really liked it because I often feel like living a healthy life is often a balancing act with all the other madness that goes on in life. The name was taken though, so I changed it to The Great Balancing Act. Also the name of a stellar Canadian indie band 😉

July 27, 2009 at 5:17 amI love this question…actually have not ever been asked it so here it goes.
I signed up over at sparkpeople.com a few years ago and wanted to see a positive mantra each time I signed in, thus the IamSucceeding was born, and I truly was(am again) so hubby said to run with it and surround myslef with all the positive. SO I did and there ya go….IamSucceeding!
Welcome back, hope you share all the wonders of blogher with us and maybe just maybe I will get to next yeasr as it is in NYC!! 🙂

MCM Mama says
July 27, 2009 at 5:34 amI chose my blogging name thinking I’d only be blogging for a short while and for a specific reason. I chose MCM Mama because I’m a mama and I was training for the Marine Corps Marathon. I’ve continued blogging way past the event, so I’ve been considering a name change but have yet to come up with anything.

July 27, 2009 at 5:35 amI totally got (and liked) Sisyphit… very clever.
Eating Well is my favorite food magazine, I would LOVE that cookbook!
I got my blog name because a year ago, we moved from the city to the country and I’m a Mom. Not too clever but it suits me! Thanks for the give away!
Crabby McSlacker says
July 27, 2009 at 5:36 amHooray, you’re back! Can’t wait to find out all about it.
LOVE this idea for a post, because I’m finding the explanations for blog names & handles fascinating!
I can’t remember exactly how I picked Crabby McSlacker, but I definitely wanted to emphasize that even lazy, grumpy people like me can take charge of our health and fitness even if it seems like a huge pain in the ass.
I do, however, remember googling to make sure there was no other “Crabby McSlacker” or “Cranky Fitness” out there. So two and a half years ago, typing in those search terms would have gotten you no hits. Now, if anyone were to start using those names I’d be very, very steamed.
And yes, I suppose my name suggests a venereal disease too! I would guess even lazy crabs are still something you don’t want to catch.

July 27, 2009 at 5:40 amI just started following your blog…and am enjoying it 🙂
My blogging name is a combination of two things. I loved the character Ayla from the Clan of the Cave Bear books and at that time, I was training for an ironman triathlon…so I put them together and go by ironayla. I am not currently in ironman shape anymore, but still like what my name means to me.

July 27, 2009 at 5:43 amI think I read the story behind your name way back when I first starting reading your blog. I think I have to go with your fam as I like Mizfit better than Sisyphit!
I would love the eatingwell cookbook considering I love their mag.

July 27, 2009 at 5:48 amMy name was easy – at the time my plan totally consisted of the South Beach Diet and my name is Steve = South Beach Steve. Now the plan has changed a little, although I still follow the SBD pretty closely, but the name has a little bit of a catchy ring to it IMHO.
Although the book looks great, I am sure there are others here who would use it more. Please leave my name out of the drawing.

July 27, 2009 at 6:18 amWhen I first joined twitter I had no idea what my “name” should be. I came up with Jen_da_bookworm ~~ easy enough – my name is Jen & I am a bookworm. haha!
When I was trying to come up with a blogname I used bookworm in every possible scenario but settled on Bookworm on a Mission because that is what I am – on a mission – to learn & become healthy.
As you know I am switching formats soon and have been rethinking the whole name thing. I have settled on “Jen in Real Life” because this is so Real!! and we need to remember that that can mean good, bad, ugly, clean & gross! Life is messy, life is real! I havent figured out what my new slogan will be but I will remain “REAL”!!!
peace & luv,

Shelley B says
July 27, 2009 at 6:26 amMy blog name? I saw all the clever blog names out there and after being stumped for oh, 10 minutes or so, came up with “forty-something’s weight loss journey” figuring as I was a few weeks from turning 45, it would be good for a while! It did bother me that blogger wouldn’t accept the apostrophe in the web ID. Yes I was a journalism major, lol!
My user name is me…I added the “B” a few months ago when another Shelley would hit your comments earlier than me.
Fab Kate says
July 27, 2009 at 6:27 amMy blog name/pseudonym kinda evolved. When I started blogging, my blog name was Weight 1 Day, and my pseudonym was Minke369. A few years ago I was turned on to Marine Biology by my biologist daughter, and wanted a name to reflect that, but in the process, also chose an animal which I felt related to me.
I chose a small whale. 369 represented the weight at which I started the blog.
After a while, I began to resent associating myself with a whale. I also was beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel… and believing that I’d really come to goal. I changed my blog name to Fabulous @ 50 to represent that. As I continued to blog Fabulous@50, I realized that there was already a lot of fabulous to me, and to us all, and that we’re often so fixated on our weight and our weaknesses that we don’t see the GOOD that’s in us all. I decided that I was NOT a whale, and changed my pseudonym to Fab Kate. I was ready to use my real name, Kate, but there are a whole lot of Kate’s in the WL blogging community, and I needed something to distinguish myself…. and discovering and uncovering my inner fabulousness, the choice seemed obvious.

July 27, 2009 at 6:30 amI love the name Mizfit!
Mine was pretty easy, since my business name is “Nutrition by Eve” so I just added the wordpress to it. Nutrition by Eve was formed since I am an RD and started a nutrition counseling practice. I wanted to have the work Nutrition in it, and after collaborating with friends and family this one got the most votes!

July 27, 2009 at 6:32 amHehe–I like this story 🙂 For me I knew I wanted something about the word inspired or inspiration, and then I thought it would be kind of sassy to do a pop word like “thin.” I somewhat regret it now and have a completely love/hate relationship with my blog name!
Marsha @ Green Mountain at Fox Run says
July 27, 2009 at 6:34 amWe chose A Weight Lifted because we liked the play on words, too. Most people will likely think we’re talking about lifting weights, but while lifting weights can be part of a healthy lifestyle, we’re really talking about lifting the burden of weight worries and low self esteem that comes from them.
Great meeting you in person at blogher, Miz!

July 27, 2009 at 6:44 amHellooooo . . . I HATE coming up with titles for things. In fact my hubby and I wrote a song together for our band and the title of that is called ‘I couldn’t title papers.’ Soooo . . . blog. I wanted something cute and catchy that fits my personality and somehow by some act of a greater being “Shrinky Dinky” popped into my head . . . 🙂

July 27, 2009 at 6:47 amMy blogger name is my name. I chose my blog name, because at the time, I was more interested in heels than sneakers, did my makeup every day (even going to class in college), and could have passed for a girly girl if it weren’t for the fact that I could be found in the gym between classes, either ellipting or lifting.
And I became really skilled at cleaning up so that no one would know.
Dr. Rus D. Jeffrey says
July 27, 2009 at 6:48 amHey there MizFit!
Frame by Frame was not the original name for our movie review site. We started with FreezeFrame. That’s what we used when we were just on our local radio station here. But, when we added the blog, wrote our first book, and started adding radio stations where we review, we quickly figured out we needed to change our name.
FreezeFrame, you see, was a direct steal from the J. Geils Band song, “FreezeFrame”. We used to use an excerpt from the song for our theme song. But, when we went to a broader base, we knew we had to make a change. Well, actually, had a couple ideas if we stuck with the “FreezeFrame” name. We could either not ask permission and wait to be sued for copyright infringement. Or ask for permission, and probably have to pay a lot of money to use the name and music.
Obviously, we didn’t like either choice.
As a result, we started thinking about a new name! Since it’s movies, we came up with “Frame by Frame” as a name. It’s a play on words of course for the “frame” in a movie. This is also when we came up with Lloyd. He’s our film guy that’s also our logo. The name Lloyd comes from “celluloid”. Get it? 😉
So, now you know how we came up with Frame by Frame!

July 27, 2009 at 6:49 amI chose No To the Deuce because I don’t want to go over 200 lbs. It’s a take from the movie There’s Something About Mary – Matt Dillon refers to a girl as being “a deuce, deuce & a half.” I don’t ever want boys referring to me that way.

Goat stays in my mind.
My blog is a mixed bag of whatever like a dog’s breakfast. I thought that too obvious, but wanted something to suggest a bunch of different items cobbled together. Who’d eat anything? And so the goat’s lunch pail was filled.

July 27, 2009 at 7:03 amSo glad that the conference went well! Looking forward to hearing aaaalllll about it.
“Living Healthy in the Real World” was just randomly plucked from midair as I couldn’t think of anything else but really wanted to start a blog RIGHT NOW. So I figured I’d use it as a temporary name until something better came along.
…and then as a little bit of time went on and my blog developed, I realized that it was the PERFECT name for what I wanted my blog to be. Did the name make the blog or the blog make the name? No idea but I’m happycontent about it 🙂

Dinneen | Eat Without Guilt™ says
July 27, 2009 at 7:20 amThis is long…but a good one (well, at least *I* think so!)
For many years I was a yo-yo dieter searching for something to end the diet cycle, overeating, binge eating and get me back on track so I could look better, feel better, and be slim. I spent YEARS eating low fat, low calorie, “healthy” foods. But I would lose weight, then gain it back. Then diet. Lose weight. Gain it back…you know how that goes.
I tried eating all the “good” foods and hated every minute of it. Eventually, I’d get so fed up that I’d eat half-a-gallon of ice cream, then feel guilty and beat myself up. Then I’d spend the next weeks (or months) punishing myself — I’d be back to eating my diet of cottage cheese, saltines, carrot sticks and salad.
Then…it would hit me…
I’d tell myself I deserved a chocolate chip cookie. So I’d eat one. Then two. Then three…before I knew it, half (or the ENTIRE) box of cookies would be gone! I’d feel so good eating the cookies — then feel so BAD afterwards.
The Guilt. The Shame.
And so would begin more days & weeks of eating right and “doing the right things.” But then the “cookie monster” would come back and so would the yo-yo dieting. This roller-coaster was causing me so much inner pain…
Then I lived and worked in FRANCE. It was there I learned how to enjoy food — all food — and not gain weight. Not only that, my attitude towards food changed and I no longer stressed about it. I learned how to enjoy it, without gaining weight AND without losing my mind.
I learned how to take pleasure in food and Eat Without Guilt (even if I ate a few cookies). If anyone knows how eat and enjoy life – while staying healthy and slim – it’s the French!
When I returned to the U.S. after living in France, one thing I noticed was
how women would comment as to why they were eating, especially if it was
a “forbidden food.”
For example, they would be eating a snack and say, “oh, I didn’t have
breakfast this morning.” Or, I’d be at a dinner party and a woman would
accept dessert and say, “well since it is Saturday night, I might as well
splurge.” And this one I’ve heard SO many times, “TOMORROW I’m starting
my diet.”
It just seemed so strange to me. Why were women constantly making
excuses or reasons as to why or what they were EATING? Why were women
eating with so much GUILT?
I then realized that *I* used to be the exact same way!! But after spending YEARS working on myself, my mindset and my relationship with food — I knew I could help OTHERS and save them years of frustration, self-destruction and pain.
I saw one of my life’s goal was to help other women with body issues and find a healthful relationship with food. I wanted to help turn their beliefs and attitudes towards food around and bring passion back into their lives.
I became so passionate about it that I studied nutrition, left my corporate
job, and started my own nutrition business. I wanted to help women lose
weight, be healthier, feel better about themselves, and EAT WITHOUT
GUILT. Hence the name.

July 27, 2009 at 7:52 amWhen I started my blog, I thought of debby’sweigh–because it was going to be about my weight loss, and I like to have my own way. But then I realized that was essentially the same as my first ever and favorite blogger that I read–lynnsweigh.
So then I though of debbyweighsin, which I still really like–the subtitle is ‘thoughts on weight loss and life,’ which pretty much gives me permission to write about any topic that I choose to write about!

Joy says
July 27, 2009 at 8:05 amSISYPHIT – love it! MizFit is probably easier for most folks to remember though. Even getting the reference, I’d be likely to mess up when typing… Sissyfit? Syssiphit?
How much fun it is to read about everyone’s name?
Mappchik is an accidental name. I’m a cartographer, so have been known as “MapGirl” to friends and family for years. By the time I got around to making it a web persona, there was a financial blogger who’d already snagged the name. “MapChick” was also gone. If you notice the first part of the comment about my typos – Mappchik was only supposed to have one “p”… Oops.
As for the cookbook, count me in on the drawing, please?! I’m constantly trying out new – hopefully healthy – recipes on the kids, all in the effort to add to the number of meals they’ll eat which do not include macaroni.

July 27, 2009 at 8:09 amI chose “losing it and loving it” because as far as my weight loss goes, I’m losing and loving the feeling. Not too exciting and I probably should have used a different name but that is what I went with and so it stays LOL

I didn’t put much thought into other names, to be honest. I knew I wanted it to include my lobster placemats (because at the time, they were all that I was using and could afford). July 27, 2009 at 8:21 amLike you I chose a blog name that’s sort of a play on words, although I’m starting to think it’s a tad obscure. Sandwiched says
July 27, 2009 at 8:21 amI chose “Sandwiched” because it describes my current season of life: I’m a mom to an 8- and 5-year-old, and just under 2 years ago, my mom moved into town. Let’s just say she hasn’t aged well, and her younger 3 siblings have already died of heart disease and diabetes complications. Mom is a 70-year-old cardiac and kidney patient with myriad other ailments.
So, not entirely willingly, I became a member of The Sandwich Generation. Within 6 months of Mom moving into town I was in therapy and on antidepressants from the stress.
I started the blog as free therapy; I liked the idea of journaling but didn’t like the fact that it’d stay in a notebook forever. And I found when I blogged it, I repackaged the stories so that it was less moaning and wailing and more “Can you believe what happened to me today?” Which made me look for the humor in my situation and in turn, made me appreciate my life and blessings so much more.
For now, the name works; even if Mom kicked it tomorrow (God forbid), I still have my aging 79-year-old dad and my in-laws.
I am working on starting another blog with a girlfriend centered more on healthy living with a spiritual point of view. It’s at http://sohelpme.wordpress.com. The idea is that we’ve tried so hard to lose the weight and be healthy, and haven’t been as successful as we’ve liked on our own. We need help: “So Help Me, God.”
As an aside, the movie scene that inspired the title was from Monsters, Inc., where Mike sings about Boo: “Take that thing back where it came from or so help me…so help me!”
The Twitter handle I picked to go with that account is @sohelpmekath. My real name is Kathleen, and all my close friends and family call me Kath. It’s a reflection of my desire to make the new blog as real as possible.
And thanks, Miz! I’ve been agonizing for weeks as to where to start with the new blog, and I think THIS might be my very first post!
I was SO excited to meet you at BlogHer, and your panel was great. Excited about the new blog your started (http://watrd.wordpress.com/) too!
By the way, am I the only one here who reads cookbooks like they’re steamy romance novels? Just wonderin’.

July 27, 2009 at 8:37 amI’ve changed the name of my blog a couple times. It started out “Fit by Fifty.” And then I realized I was in this lifestyle change for good, not just to reach a birthday at a certain weight.
“Lee” is my middle name. I’ve never liked it much but I’m accepting of it now & even learning to like it.

July 27, 2009 at 8:44 amI picked my alias (Daria) because I loooove that show and because Daria and I share some character traits. I picked my blog title (Summer of the CSAs) because I looooved Wilson Rawls’s books when I was a kid (Summer of the Monkeys, Where the Red Fern Grows) and it’s a good description of what I’m blogging about.
And for the record, I like Sisyphit. 😉

July 27, 2009 at 8:54 amI love Eating Well magazine so would be so excited about that cookbook.
I started my blog (and chose my blog name) in a fit of self-loathing. My motto was, “I love food, and hate my body.” But that has transformed so much in the months since I began my blog. Now I can say that I am STILL a foodie, I still love food, but GOOD sorts of food, and I am developing a deep love and appreciation for my body which I never had before. So happily the name still fits, but the intonation and the feeling of it is so different.
Thanks for asking, it gave me a good moment of pause.

July 27, 2009 at 8:54 amI picked mine based completely on my obsession with my red kitchenaid mixer. It’s a food (really, more baking) blog, and it made sense to me to pick something that was central to my baking. That was definitely my mixer.
Of course, I have several other names and blog titles now, and in the past… but there’s no need to get into all of that!

July 27, 2009 at 9:09 amI picked my URL because I like alliteration. I call my blog “Losin’ It” because I’m trying to lose weight, which sometimes makes me feel like I’m losing my mind, so it works both ways. 🙂

Well, my blog name came from my church back in Cali. All the women’s events or groups are called the SHE community and within the community they have SHE heals, SHE exercises, SHE dessert nights… ect. So, I decided with She-Fit… a community for girls that want to get fit and healthy 🙂

July 27, 2009 at 9:19 amMy blog name is “shut up and run.” I came up with this because there were so many people around me who talked the talk constantly about wanting to eat right and to exercise, but never followed through. I have found that the most success comes from just doing it and not overthinking it. Hence, the name. Sometimes the way to move forward is to do things even when we don’t entirely feel like it…

July 27, 2009 at 10:20 amMy blog name came from when I worked in awater lab…the organic compound geosmin is the earthy smell that water has when it is full of organics before it is treated. Marste says
July 27, 2009 at 10:24 amThis is fun!
Marste is my real name. Pronounced like “Marcy,” but with a “t” in there. It’s a combination of my parents’ names. 🙂
My blog name came from a metaphysical interpretation of the “take up your bed and walk” story from the Bible. That interpretation is that we are born into tribes/families that we don’t quite fit with, and the reason for that is so that we can learn more about ourselves. At some point, we have to thank our tribe/family/whatever for being exactly what we DIDN’T need so that we can move on in our internal growth and development with self-knowledge and self-awareness. We learn to “take up [our] bed[s] and walk.”
Jules says
July 27, 2009 at 10:29 amMy name and blog name are really an internal thing for me. Jules is a play on my real name. A Knickname I’ve had since I can remember. It’s me. So i use it, kinda nice being “me” without hiding my real name from creepos in the world 🙂 As for my blog name. I started it as a weightloss blog. But I picked Meltawayjules because in truth not only do I need to melt away the pounds… but i also need to melt away the walls and crap i’ve put around myself. To unhide the REAL me that has become hidden all these years. To become the me I know I am, not the me I’ve let people think I am. So in a away… I’m melting not only physically, but mentally too. 🙂
I LOVE cookbooks. I don’t buy them though, because they are usually expensive and I just can’t afford them. This one sounds amazing in more ways than one. Would love to check it out 🙂
Welcome home. 🙂

July 27, 2009 at 11:15 amOK, I so think that book sounds awesome!!!!!!!!!!! I had to get that out of the way!
Also, I sometimes write posts in advance. I want to do it more cause I get on this computer & never get anything else done!!!!! 🙂
As for the name of my blog, Truth 2 Being Fit, it was not meant to mean that I know everything or are the end al of info. It was quite the opposite. I just wanted to “intrigue” people to come read by the name of my blog and then let them know that getting healthy & being fit is not a one stop/one size thing. I wanted people to know that there are so many ways to be fit & to not fall for the “you have to do this to lose weight or else” thing. I wanted to share the many paths one can take to get there. After reading other blogs, I was going to focus on food & exercise but have incorporated the other necessary elements like your mind & soul as well…. THX MizFit as you are one that got me going that way!

July 27, 2009 at 11:31 amThat book recommend is a breath of fresh air. I love that it encompasses the emotional side of healthy living not just a cookie cutter regime of only diet and exercise. 🙂
I came up with my blog name, But You Have Such A Pretty Face because that was all I heard growing up and I still hear it today. “It’s such a shame that you have such a pretty face but are so overweight.” “If you could just lose the weight you would be gorgeous.” Yeah, never thought of that. 😉
Thank you for your inspirational blog!

July 27, 2009 at 11:57 amLove the name Mizfit! Totally suits you and rocks!
For me, KK is a nickname I have had since I was little. Running Through Life (blog name) stems from the fact that I started running and is a twist on a song from Wicked–Dancing Through Life. Add to that that my life is crazy busy and I am running from one thing to another and there you have it!

Lainie (Fit Fig) says
July 27, 2009 at 12:20 pmMine is a bit silly. My weird dad always called me Fig or Figgy growing up (uh, actually still does, come to think of it)–he chose that nickname for me when I was born because he already called my sister Prune and I guess Fig seemed like a good name for the little sister of a Prune. I have embraced my moniker more than she has because figs are pretty cool. I’ve been using Fig in variations of email addresses ever since first connecting to the internet, so it was natural to attach it to my blog. First I was Fitness Fig and then I shortened it to Fit Fig. Of course I like alliteration, as well.
Now I have another blog and an Etsy shop and I call those Fig’s Frippery. Sticking with the Fig and another F theme.

July 27, 2009 at 12:43 pmI chose my name because I didn’t want something too cutesy. I wanted something that reflected me and the fact that my blog wouldn’t necessarily be only about weight loss or exercise. For me life is always up in the air because of my job and my schedule. So for me everything changes constantly. It seemed to fit even though I hate change. It’s just something I’m getting used to.
Lola says
July 27, 2009 at 1:04 pmgood question. I came up with mine while watching Oprah one day. She was interviewing Beyonce and she was talking about her latest album – I am Sasha Fierce. Beyonce was saying that in real life, she’s really very shy and to do some of her numbers, she has to become another “persona” entirely to be able to have the confidence to pull it off. Sasha Fierce was that person for her.
That’s how I came up with Lola Fierce. In real life, I always put others before me. The real me, doesn’t care about what I look like and doesn’t make myself a priority…but Lola Fierce – Lola is tough and strong and apologizes to no one. She takes care of herself and doesn’t think its silly to spend time or money on little things that will make her happy.
I mean, I love myself…but Lola is just an amped up version of me — bigger, (well, leaner), fitter and better. :o)
Thanks for asking. (I love your name.)

Mine’s pretty obvious. There are much more “fit” moms than me, no doubt. But to me, “it” is about doing what’s reasonable and possible while keeping the rest of life (relationships, eating yummy food, living simply, having fun) in balance. Not surprisingly, web searches didn’t yield any name-twins either…

As for my blog, I explain it on my site thusly: Once upon a time, my friend R-dogg would tell Great. Little. Stories. Since I stole my blog title from that experience, let’s just say this is dedicated to him. Anytime someone tells a story that seems to really have no bearing on anything, my friends call it a Great Little Story.

July 27, 2009 at 8:03 pmI love your name and your blog and personality and humor. Need I say more!
How did I pick the name The Bold Life?
I’m freakin gutsy, loud and a risk taker. I stand out instead of fitting in and couldn’t fit in if I tried.
I’m one of 10 kids, 6th from the top and boldly pushed my way out of the middle demanding to be heard even if I had to get in trouble to do so.
In school if someone bullied me instead of running and crying to anyone I dared give it right back.
I’m much more tame now and learned how to be a little more classy. (not much more)!
In fact due to this (taming) and my blog has evolving I’m thinking of changing my tag line and even the photo.

All through my life (thus far) I’ve made decisions based on my gut-or Faith. Moved to AZ for school based on nothing, but my senior year I met my husband. Got married because it felt right, even though everyone was sceptical, and this year marks our 10 yr anniversary. We moved to Austin, TX after selling our house in AZ, no new house yet and no jobs. Bought a house on the internet, drove down here, found jobs and so far all is good!
I’ll keep leaping, I’ll keep believing – in me.

July 27, 2009 at 9:50 pmWhen I decided to blog about my weight loss it didn’t take me long to decide on the name. I actually based the name on John 3:30, He must increase, but I must decrease. It is my goal to lose weight and grow in my relationship with God.

July 27, 2009 at 10:13 pmSo… Shannon and I had our great idea to blog, but it took us a while to come up with the name. The night it came to us we had tried to get tickets to watch “Wicked” to no avail, but thought about using something around the idea of wicked, but since we liked the acronym WTF we wanted to incorporate that. Shannon also thought something with the word fabulous since I always say it and… well we think we are pretty fabulous! 😉 We also knew we wanted to be totally out there with the fat word and not skate around calling us anything else.
So… we came up with Weightloss with the Fabulous Fatties. WTF?! Which has now been shortened to The Fabulous Fatties.
There is our story… thank you for sharing yours!
Losing Waist! says
July 27, 2009 at 10:36 pmUh… lets see…
I always pondered the true meaning of “Losing Face”… and when I decided to finally get my shit together to lose weight- I knew I would kind of have to breakdown, unravel, and even reveal all of what I was hiding (cracked pride).
The other portion is that my ultimate goal is to lose my waist, and actual pounds are not the priority. I started out with a 65 inch waist (5 feet, 5 inches in circumference), and knew that before long it would catch up with me. My waist is also my biggest “zone of shame” with my body image issues….
SO- Losing some face to lose my waist= Losing Waist!

July 27, 2009 at 11:28 pmBlogname? Hefferblog comes from my girlfriends…how we came to call ourselves heffers is pretty well documented on my blog, but the short version is that it came from a bar game and “livestock” was too many letters…so we became heffers (spelled wrong too…go figure).
Alice is a pseudonym. When my husband and I are being particularly snarky with each other, he calls me Alice (like from the honeymooners) and I call him Walter (I have no idea why). That way it’s Alice and Walter who are being snarky and short with each other, not Cindi and Mike 🙂
