The biceps exercise I mention.
The shoulders exercise I mention.
The triceps exercise I mention.
(good gosh those videos feel like they were filmed eons & not mere months ago. go figure.)
EDITED TO SAY: Im still collecting commentdonations here. I shall total christmas eve morning and announce that day. Looks like we’re heading toward 20cents a comment so that RM & I can reach our personal goal. I can admit we were hesitant to say that initially as we feared a spontaneous 100,000,000,000 comments and having to tap into the Tornado’s college fund.

December 22, 2008 at 4:10 amNice vid. I’m basically doing the split squat for my physio. Instead of using a chair to balance, I just keep my hand against the wall. They’re awesome, and I hate them π

December 22, 2008 at 5:27 amGreat Video as always. Do we have to do these in the kitchen? How about the dining room or any room in the house for that matter, in which case these can be called homexercise? Hummmm…I’m terrible at making up names, oh well. I like the routines you show here. Thanks.
MizFit says
December 22, 2008 at 5:29 amlaughing SpinDiva as I read that as HOMERcize and immediately thoughts SIMPSON π

December 22, 2008 at 6:23 amCute outfit Miz! I have a problem doing the split squat, can’t get my let up on the chair. Not very graceful am I! π
MizFit says
December 22, 2008 at 6:26 amnatalia? please to enjoy merely standing or doing a little plie squat while you hide & raiseliftcurl your soupcans π
And bea? Um, yes.
That, perhaps to a somedayTweenTornado’s chagrin, is MizFit out of her Nike trail shorts.

December 22, 2008 at 6:37 amWhat a great idea. I don’t need to hide from relatives, they won’t be here for Christmas (thus the ‘all is calm, all is bright,’ Miz!) But I do need to increase my exercise quotient during this endless snow-now rain!
Lynn says
December 22, 2008 at 6:47 amGreat tights!
And the instructions are to “curl” not “hurl” the soup cans? Just needed to clarify π
The Bag Lady says
December 22, 2008 at 6:51 amIt’s really hard to “hide” in Bag Lady’s ‘open concept’ floor plan house, and the stools at her island would make the split squats nigh on to impossible! BUT she might lead the entire family in a wee exercise routine….
And Linda? I’m afraid I do have you beat, temperature-wise, although this is NOT at contest I’m happy to be winning! It’s -38C here this morning, which in Fahrenheit is still damned cold!

December 22, 2008 at 7:11 amI love you in your stripey tights. They are ever so cute.
This looks like a great (possibly painful after 20 reps) exercise, but I love that it’s functional.
I’m wondering, is it okay as a holiday guest to be the one hiding in the kitchen (or wherever) exercising?
Oh, and we’re having a heat wave here!! It’s 35 degrees- holy cow!! But we have yet another snow storm coming later today, which means the commute home will be a nightmare, and my run today will be plan B (the dreadmill). = )
tokaiangel says
December 22, 2008 at 7:11 amLove the stripey legs, Miz! I vote for more streetclothes in Facetime.
Think my mum would hit the roof if she came into the kitchen and saw me doing anything remotely sneak-exercisey π luckily I’ve pesuaded her to take me to the gym on Saturday, so we have a compromise. NOW all I have to do is put up with my step-dad’s snarky comments throughout an entire 90 minutes of my workout DVD for the rest of my stay….
I would say generally if you’re looking to keep active over the holidays, remember NEAT (Non Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) and get washing up, tidying up and bounding up and down those stairs to fetch granny’s slippers π

December 22, 2008 at 7:44 amAm giggling because when I was doing split squats for the 100 reps challenge I was using a stability ball and fell over at least a dozen times. It’s a good thing we’ve got your videos to show us how to properly carry out these exercises!
I like exercising in unusual places, like the kitchen. Except at work its kind of awkward if I’m exercising in the back room and a client walks by to use the bathroom… I’m pretty sure they all think I’m crazy:D

December 22, 2008 at 8:38 amLove the tights. Great exercises. I keep a set of dumbbells in the kitchen, and these will be great to do while I wait for my cookies to finish baking…if I can get myself off the computer first. Thanks!

December 22, 2008 at 8:41 amGotta say this one scares me. I could feel my legs giving way underneath me as I watched. I would feel me not being able to do the rising part of the exercise. It’ll stick with me all day and I’ll have to try it to get it out of my system.

December 22, 2008 at 9:27 amDuring the holidays, I usually can manage to fit in my runs (once I escape the house, nobody can catch up to me, I chortle wickedly), BUT the minute I try to sneak in some strength training a million kids and animals are climbing all over me asking questions and everybody else needs my help cooking/finding things/polishing off the pie. So. I am going to try to sneak some in here and there. Except for me it will likely become basementcercize or laundryroomercize– much better spots for hiding.
Yay for Tornado moving into her big girl bed! I don’t have kids and so all I know how to do is gushgushgush. By the tears and “mommymommymommy” part I’m usually outta there.

December 22, 2008 at 9:37 amI am digging the Pippi Longstockings tights there!
Won’t be exercising in my kitchen. The spouse is home for 2 weeks, so I need trips to the gym to keep “justifiable homocide” off my record.
Crabby McSlacker says
December 22, 2008 at 9:46 amWhat a great way to slip in a little exercise without bundling off to the gym!
I’m imagining my family’s reaction were they to catch me imitating you in the kitchen. They wouldn’t bat an eye at the split squat, but if I were wearing the tights, given my usual drab wardrobe choices, they’d really, really wonder what was going on.
You look so adorable in them!

December 22, 2008 at 12:02 pmI sometimes throw these in at the gym and hold dumbbells which actually helps my balance somehow. I always get weird looks when I do it (use the bench instead of chair) but hot damn do these suckers work! Great video and I’l chime in for the 100th comment saying you look cute. Very cool about the gym membership!
Regarding transitioning to the big kid bed…the first few weeks were rough for us but then it worked out no problems really. We try and follow a routine of jammies, brushing teeth, reading or telling a story and then it’s lights out. At first we closed his door because we didn’t want noise distracting and enticing him out of bed but now he freaks out if we don’t leave it cracked open. We just repeatedly put him back in bed, calmly over and over until he stops. Also putting a favorite toy in time out helped get over the intial hump. I’m sure I could add things but this is getting way too long…if I think of anything earth shatteringly helpful I’ll shoot you an email. π THANKS SO MUCH!!
Pubsgal says
December 22, 2008 at 12:03 pmThis video warmed my Monday heart…I will definitely give that exercise a try, but maybe not in our (as my mom-in-law calls it) OAK or one-a$$-kitchen. I heart those tights, and you look so cute, Miz!
I think it would be HOMERcize if you use beer cans instead of soup cans…use those big ol’ oversized Fosters ones for extra effectiveness. π
To all: Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Habari Gani, and Hau’oli Makahiki Hou!
