This is all the exercise that’s on tap for me today. Chair-plankage.
First an update of sorts from my Techfree Tuesday post.
I appreciate how many of you wished me luck breaking the concept to Ren Man & didn’t take lightly the notion he might have ZERO interest in joining me. The man loves him some technology.
That said, after I explained my idea to him (over dinner. at the table. sans TV) the only way to describe how he reacted was relieved. Ill let you know how things unfold—-but his immediate reaction was, essentially, one of readiness & anticipation. It felt as though he’d never have initiated the idea (we were both too in the plugged-in habit, I think, to even ‘see’ what we were doing) but is more than ready for some technologySILENCE in his life.
Next? THIS. Im totally being dragged lovingly toted to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for a NASCAR event. Any tips for me, oh readers of mine? Ever been to a NASCAR race? For some reason I dont think Ill be a fan of the noise-factor (I did snag the Tornado a pair of these). To amuse myself I plan on bringing Ellen along. She hasnt gotten out much lately.
In the better late than never category (& sort of an extension of my branding experience) Have you checked this How To Write A Better Health Blog ebook out yet? I love Mary & have been fortunate to meet her a few times already in person. She young but she wise. ‘Nuff said.
Speaking of bloggers meet-ups I purchased my TypeAMom conference ticket. The event is in Asheville in September & Im now hellbent on getting Id love for more fitness/healthy living Peeps to join me. YES the name does have the word mom in it but the event includes women of all types, dads, businesses & I even think there is a Kid Con(ference AKA daycare) in the works. We also have an opportunity to organize a Fitness Tribe session (small group powerbrainstorming). And yes. Im heading to Asheville sponsor-free. I adored meeting other bloggers at Fitbloggin & shall figure out a way to defray my costs. Join me?
Lastly, and kinda weirdly, I invite you to grab a large white tee & a Sharpie. Monday’s post is almost a crafty one (if by crafty you mean we are turning a white tee into a notsowhiteanymore—-which I d0) so consider this your heads up. It’s an exercise I like to do for myself (& plan to do again this weekend) and, as always, I long to drag you into the fray.
WHEW.
That’s me. Im techfree, heading to NASCAR, reading ebooks, excited for conferences, & trashing tee shirts.
You?
What’s shakin in your next of the net?
Will you consider joining me (across the board, People. Nascar? Asheville? Book reading? In tee & Sharpie gathering?)—please to hit us all up in the comments.

April 16, 2010 at 2:38 amI really love the idea of unplugging. I’m horribly addicted to my BlackBerry and really need to unplug myself from it. My thumbs needs a break from tweeting, texting, and toodling around the interweb.
So I will definitely be applying this to my life SOON!
Also, I’m really curious as to what we will be doing with a white tee and sharpie. I’m all about trashing tees! 🙂

April 16, 2010 at 3:36 amI have gone to one NASCAR thing and didn’t like it (sorry to be the bearer of bad news :)).
Maybe Ellen will love it? 🙂

April 16, 2010 at 3:52 amI can’t wait to be with Mary so I can turn off the computer. Seriously. I spent so much less time online because I was living life with her 🙂
I’d like to go to one NASCAR event in my life, just to soak up the atmosphere. I’m a fan of motorsport, but motorsport where drivers do more than turn left 😉

April 16, 2010 at 3:55 amFUN!
Any kind of white shirt?
Tank top ok?
MrsFatass says
April 16, 2010 at 4:40 amWow. NASCAR. Really?
You know, I love to find myself in situations like that. Wayyyy out of my comfort zone, doing something I never thought I would do. Hey, wait a minute, that sounds like me at the GYM right now!
Anyhow, it will be LOUD, but I would think that it’s the kind of thing everybody should experience once.
And I will join you, shirt and sharpie in hand. Oh, and when you send me The Package, can I have another tattoo? I have mine to @JBeyondSurvival when I saw her last week. My son loooves him some tattoos and I want to give one to him. Or, can we buy them somewhere yet?

April 16, 2010 at 4:41 amWe drive right by Texas Motor Speedway whenever we go to Denton to visit our sons – TMS has the biggest, brightest display sign that always fascinates me to watch change. This should be an EXPERIENCE for you – all I can think of is Ricky Bobby when I think of Nascar (yes, everything in my life is a Will Ferrell movie reference, lol). You will see a lot of interesting people there and I think this might put you over the top in convincing Ellen to have you on her show!

April 16, 2010 at 4:47 amIs that conference like Blogher?
I love your tattoo, Miz. It’s badass.

April 16, 2010 at 4:53 amGlad the husband is excited for the challenge too!! My sister has been to a few Nascar races, she seems to enjoy them….I’m not sure I “get” them 🙂 Have fun. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. We’re having friends over for a bbq tonight, I have to teach tomorrow, other than that? Hopefully relaxing

April 16, 2010 at 5:16 amOkay, I have to tell you that you are getting younger looking by the minute! You look like a little girl in that pic! Forty-smorty. Gimme some of your Fountain of Youth!!! 😀
Yay for tech-free Tues! Glad Ren Man wanted to cooperate. You DID marry well 😀

April 16, 2010 at 5:22 amI am intrigued by the tee shirt thing, I will see if I can procure my supplies this weekend!

April 16, 2010 at 5:40 amOh so glad Ren man is on board with your tech free nights. I have yet to be that disciplined (as to make it a REGULAR night) but I do it occasionally. And am always happy by what I ‘accomplish.’ More reading, quilting, relaxing…
Yes, I am intrigued by the t-shirt thing. Hope I remember to get one at Walmart this weekend. Otherwise it might be a colored tshirt from the drawer!

April 16, 2010 at 5:44 amI need to check out the typea thing if dads are invited.
Is the TypeA for….retentive?!

April 16, 2010 at 5:45 amFor me, chair-plankage = bust your lip and take your two front teeth out as you fall. Not for those with chronic clumsiness!

April 16, 2010 at 5:55 amMy husband and I plan to spend less time with internet and tv and more time hiking and talking. I can’t wait, but for now I’m plugged in all the way!
Have a great time this weekend!

April 16, 2010 at 6:01 amI saw your tweet. Will there be a big fitness meet up?

April 16, 2010 at 6:02 amGot to love those planks & that one, I must try!!!!!!!!
So, you know I will be semi unplugged with my friend gathering the next few days.. I saw you commented already! 🙂 That will be my fun. Now I am afraid I might miss this Monday post with the t-shirt & all… I am going to try to read it! You have me all up & curious!
Have fun at the speedway & unplugged! Love that you got those earplugs for Tornado!
Sagan says
April 16, 2010 at 6:11 amI WANT TO TRY THE PLANK ON TWO CHAIRS.
Sorry. Kinda excited about that one.
I shall spend my weekend studying/moving. As I have spent the last couple weeks. And will spend next week as well. The good thing about it is that it kinda forces me to be unplugged! The bad thing is, well, it’s a BUSYBUSY month around here.
Have FUN at the Nascar event!
Joanna Sutter says
April 16, 2010 at 6:15 amI am so not a nascar girl so sadly I have no advice for you, my dear.
I have been doing a better job w/ my unplugging project. I hope to carry that into the weekend with great success!
POD says
April 16, 2010 at 6:27 amNASCAR is such a TX stereotype. You simply must attend. Isn’t this the event where you all wear those big hats, sipping quietly from mint julips? We used to take our boys to stockcar races when they were young and once had free tickets to a tractor pull and took them there too. They still love the races and wouldn’t turn their nose up at a NASCAR race. You *could* actually have a good time.
As for techfree Tuesday, it might be interesting to do a tech free dinner along with it.

April 16, 2010 at 6:28 amSO MANY THOUGHTS but alas life calls.
the short version?
*I think that TypeA is like BlogHer — never been before though. Im not heading to blogher this year.
*a dark tee will totally work on monday—just git you a black Sharpie (which most people have Im sure. only I roll with the purple :))

April 16, 2010 at 6:29 amI went to a NASCAR race a few years ago with my husband and in-laws before they were my husband and in-laws. We went for the whole 3-day weekend shebang. It wasn’t terrible, but I was ready to come home by the time it was over. The only real advice I have is to wear comfy clothes, comfy shoes and sunscreen. Oh, and smuggle in your own water cuz that $hiz is expensive once you get inside the gate.
Renee says
April 16, 2010 at 6:34 amI’d love to join you on the tribe session. I went to Type-A last year and I enjoyed it. This year I have evolved and become less of a “mom” blogger in general and more of a ‘fit mom blogger” I think that is great. Monday – I don’t think I own a white tee but I will wrangle one up.
Lori (Finding Radiance) says
April 16, 2010 at 6:36 amNASCAR? Ewwww LOL! I loves me some football, but I just don’t get car racing.
I have been unplugging earlier each night actually shutting off the computer instead of putting it to sleep (allowing me to get back on if I wanted).
Sharpie Monday sounds fun!

April 16, 2010 at 8:14 amOh shoot… (note to self: get white t-shirt!)
And that’s great that Ren Man was so hip to the tech free idea. That’ll make it so much easier!

April 16, 2010 at 9:25 amOh, Nascar, it makes me think of one thing: earplugs. lol I bet you’ll enjoy it, though.
The t-shirt. I don’t know your plans, but often in the back of my mind I’ve wanted to grab a white t-shirt and my Sharpies and make a workout shirt–with all kinds of great words, feelings, about myself on the shirt. Anxious to follow along on that one!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
April 16, 2010 at 9:26 amAnother left turn 🙂
I will grab one of Hunni’s new white t-shirts for monday.
In my neck of the woods I’m working on breaking my sugar habit while baking my hiney off for a bake sale. Not so easy.
And I’m easing back into running after taking some time off. I love it but right nowmy body is fighting me.

April 16, 2010 at 12:00 pmNASCAR huh?? I’ll admit I’ve never been either! And I’ll also admit it will probably stay that way as I don’t have much love for any sporting event of that sort:) That’s just me though. Can’t wait to hear all abuot your experience!
Skyler Meine says
April 16, 2010 at 1:41 pmNascar is fun. Watched a few races this year for the first time. Really just trying to fill the void left by the end of football season.
I wasn’t sure if you were looking for a sponsor to the blog conference? I am not sure how this stuff works. Do good bloggers get sponsors to this kind of stuff and in return for what? Just trying to understand this whole thing a little new to the blogging community.

April 16, 2010 at 4:31 pmBoredom is good for my productivity and creativity. So, I strive to keep my plugged-in activities to a minimum.
It depends what your goals are though. If it involves a big ‘net presence, then it is going to part of your equation.
Although, I am growing [not very quickly as it’s not my main priority] in tech spheres and I do find some of it productive, useful & furthering my goals, I find the same happens out on the street talking to folks face-to-face.
As a writer, I am solitary most of my day. So, I enjoy the face-to-face interaction when I get a chance to get out.
Anyway, I always strive for balance. If something is taking too much of my time and pulling me from progressing in my goals, then I set it aside now and then. If that makes any sense.
That’s one thing I love about working at the observatory, totally unplugged every weekend all summer. To me, it’s like soaking my feet. It feels that good.

April 16, 2010 at 5:31 pmOooo, is this the Monday t-shirt project? Sorry, couldn’t resist. 😉
Thing 1 would be very jealous that you’re going to see a NASCAR race…he’s even picked up a drawl watching NASCAR, having got the parrot gene from me.
And so glad that Ren Man is on board with the unplugged nights. I kind of had a feeling he would be. Friday nights tend to be our plugged in nights, because we keep it as unplugged as possible during the week so that the Things get their homework done and to bed on time.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

I’d LOVE to attend Type A, but I just checked it out and it’s the weekend of mine and my son’s birthday. Boo. Would have been awesome to drag some of the Sisters to Asheville for some good fitness blog talking….
I’m sure you’ll be representing us well 🙂

April 18, 2010 at 7:51 amHilarious that you are going to TMS. It is quite a site to see. I had to go there several times for work when I was a reporter at the Star-Telegram. Lots of long days.
And as for TypeAMom: WOOT!

April 18, 2010 at 11:46 amNASCAR is a whale of a good time in person. I went to the Cup race in Michigan a number of years ago. Loved it and would go again in a heartbeat if I had the money and could swing it.
We will likely join you on the “no technology” bandwagon, but for us, it’ll likely be just one night a week to start. When I proposed it to my husband, his response was, “but what will we do with ourselves?” I told him that response was why we needed to do this. We could cook dinner together, go for a walk, play games, talk, anything except plug in to our techno toys.
We’ll see how it goes.
