First, foremost and most importantly I want to thank UGIFIT.
If they werent sponsoring me for Fitbloggin—I wouldn’t be going.
I adore them. Their brand. Their product. Their passion for fitness.
Thanks to them I will be in Maryland in two weeks (!) talking Ugi, demo’ing Ugi, letting you play with the Ugi and giving away the Ugi!
For those of you who asked (after my last Ugi-post) for a video of the Ugifit ball I give you this:
(if youre checking in via a reader theres a 38 second video above)
Next.
Many many many people have been asking me yes which makes me laugh. Im nothing if not NOT stylin’ what to wear to the conference.
My answer:
Wear whatever attire it is which, when you have it on, allows you to be your best self.
Sure my mom’s adage applies of dress for the job you want and if you see Fitbloggin as an opportunity to network you may choose not to wear your pajamas.
That said, we are writers. Bloggers. We spend the majority of our time behind computer screens with fingers flying.
For this MizFit that doesnt translate to wearing business casual to conferences (yada yada yada dizclaimer this is just what I do).
To non-fitness conferences I tend toward nice (read: clean and not ripped) jeans, a nice (same definition) long sleeved shirts and cowboy boots.
For Fitbloggin? Im going comfy.
Im going ready willing and able to ‘drop & give you 20‘ at a moments notice. I’ll be clean, rip free, and presentable (*cough* jumpsuits *cough*), but I’ll be clad in clothing which allows me to be ME and not constantly wonder if my blouse is riding up or my skirt suit all twisted.
Onward.
Another question Ive been asked lately is: Im nervous about Fitbloggin. Should I be? Is everyone friendly?
I give this one a resounding NO! and YES (indeed I realize I cannot speak for everybody—but you get the idea).
I also gave these emails the response of Good GOSH I know exactly what you’re expressing.
Been there. Had those fears.
Was socially awkward. Did it anyway. If my experience from last year is any indication Fitbloggin is unlike any other conference Ive ever attended.
Not only are we all bloggers–we are all share the same blogging niche.
You may never have read *my* blog—but chances are really high we share the love/adoration of another blogger in common. Or hobby. Or passion for the same book.
Another thing I observed last year at Fitbloggin were no closed circles. A group of women might be chatting animatedly about a topic—-but if you approach and want to join in they ready opened up. Put yourself out there. It’s hard for all of us but at least at Fitbloggin Ive always seen people respond.
Lastly: REACH OUT TO OTHERS even if you are feeling shy. Do you spy that “popular blogger” standing alone at a meal? Go up and make him or her feel welcome. Frequently we assume (*raises hand*) shyness is aloofness. Often we assume someone is alone by *choice* not feeling awkward. Lets make this an assumption-free weekend.
Finally.
Whether you are able to attend Fitbloggin or not.
Please take a moment to THANK RONI.
I remember when the notion of a fitness conference was bandied about at a BlogHer conference a few years ago.
Roni moved on it.
Roni organized it.
Roni has worked her ass off on this and with a newborn to boot.
In short: Lets give Roni some love.
(yes ‘in short’ made me laugh as nothing else in this post is short. youll have that)
That’s pretty much it here on this Friday.
Im UGI-grateful.
Im conference .02 proffering.
Im in awe of all Roni and so many of you are capable of juggling on a day-to-day basis.
Please to hit us all up with your UGI, Fitbloggin or life-thoughts below.
Cannae wait to meet you at long long last my podcasting buddy. And can’t wait to feel socially awkward and hide in the corner too. Ha ha!
We can hide in the corner together, Shauna.
I am looking forward to every part of fitbloggin’ – especially getting to try the Ugi ball with you. =)
I’m also ready to meet bloggers that I’ve adored for two years and bloggers that I don’t know yet! In short, I’m ready! =)
Yay can’t wait to meet you soon
I can’t make Fitblogging but this post applies to a lot in my life anyway!!
Oh and if you got those arms from Ugi I am buying one today LOL!!
I can’t wait to meet you in person, Miz.
This is my favorite part of your post:
You may never have read *my* blog—but chances are really high we share the love/adoration of another blogger in common. Or hobby. Or passion for the same book.
You make a great point and I needed to hear that.
Confession: I am most definitely freaked out. This is way outside of my comfort zone. All of you guys hanging out with me…me? I probably wont go 10 feet in any direction without crying or hugging someone.
Totally want to mad a shirt that says “approach gently and guide to next event”
I am a little terrified about going to Fitbloggin.
I am afraid I will be the one in the corner no one talks to 🙂 thanks for the tips.
I hope they work!! 🙂
See you there!!!!
Thanks for the video!
I had no idea, either, how to correctly pronounce their name.
Good gosh lady your arms are amazing.
I can’t imagine you feeling awkawrd or shy, MizFit.
I so so so wish I could make it to Fitbloggin to meet everyone. It’s only about a 4 hour drive for me, but not in the cards this month. 🙁
I’m sure you’ll all have a great time and can’t wait to hear about it.
And the Ugi ball… just put it “on the list”.
I am eager to see that ball at Fitbloggin!
Your arms blow me away.
I’m still trying to figure out if I can crash Fitbloggin. Sneak in between lacrosse games or some such? It’s killing me that it’s so close, but forced to choose, as I was, I chose my son’s tournament. So, I guess I should stop whining.
have so much fun! Wish I could go. The ugi ball looks really cool. Hooray for sponsorship 🙂
Will you be blogging from there?
I couldn’t afford to go this year.
SO SO SO SO EXCITED!!!!! to see you and see everyone again! Fitbloggin was THE MOST awesome fun social blogging event I have ever been to. It was one giant fitfest of open social circles (would that make it a big social line dance perhaps?!) it was about healthy lifestyles and everyone on their own path coming together, it truly was amazing! CANNOT.WAIT!
Ridiculously excited to meet you and everyone else that makes up this wonderful community. If anyone sees me by myself, come grab me! And that being said, I’m likely to randomly jump in others conversations to not miss any of the action!
I’m stealing all of this for my work retreat this weekend.
Except the UGI 🙂
I want to steal that.
Okay, I don’t want this to sound wrong, but the thing is, I’m NOT socially awkward. I’m one of those butterfly types. I flit.I love being in groups, I get energy from you guys, in real life. I’m an EXTROVERT, people! So what I’m saying is, I will be talking to as many people as possible, as often as possible, so don’t be shy, or more importantly, try not to be overwhelmed by if I just suddenly pop over and start blah blah blah blahing at you. I can’t help it! Deal? Let’s shake on it!
Miz, I love these conference recommendations. Last year, I went to my first conference (cough.. Blogher) and I was SO OVERWHELMED. While I was there I was dreaming about fitbloggin, and much smaller, more intimate conference, where I would have opportunity to see all of my twitter favorites and online heroes. That said, there is always that socially awkward bit at the beginning. Thanks for writing this, so glad I can start my day EXCITED that it’s only twoish weeks away!
YAY! I can’t wait to meet everyone but I am afraid I will be the girl in the corner all by herself saying “eh?” a lot.
I’m going to make it a point to introduce myself to random people, though.
I. Must.
I am with Marzipan!
I’m nervous, socially awkward, AND have nothing to wear! *freak out* LOL. The fact that I feel I ‘know’ a few people makes me feel better though. That and I’m going shopping since nothing fits, woot for new clothes!
Well, when folks see me wearing a bathrobe the whole time at Fitbloggin’, I’m pointing ’em to THIS post.
how many push ups can you do in your bathrobe?
I am definitely both way excited and nervous! I’m no extrovert and I don’t have some huge popular blog. This will definitely be an exercise in stepping outside of my comfort zone.
I’m no extrovert so this will definitely be an exercise in stepping out of my comfort zone. I do understand that I can be my own worst enemy in these situations. I think I’m going to have to do a bit of faking it until I make it. If I look comfortable and approachable instead of nervous, maybe it will be so!
I so wish I could go just to meet you & all the other wonderful bloggers including Roni!!!! Such a wonderful thing & looking forward to seeing pics & reading stories. I can’t afford it right now so we shall see next year!
Good for UGI for sponsoring you! Now that is awesome – no bettepersonon to represent them! When things are better I hope to try UGI out but for now, no dollars beyond bills to get by….. BUT, how about a video of you doing it! OR, did I miss that? 🙂
Well, it looks like the corners will be well populated! I don’t consider myself shy, but I’m painfully new at this and terrified to boot, so the corner may also be my new hangout. No matter what, though, I can’t wait to meet you all!!

This is a GREAT post. I’m more excited than nervous. Can’t wait!
I’m so excited I can’t stand it. And I want to say – if anybody feels shy, worried about cliques or alone, look for Team FREE HUGS!!!!!!
http://foodfoodbodybody.wordpress.com/2010/12/10/no-cliques-only-free-hugs/
Three cheers for Roni! (with an Ugi on top)
Not going to lie: I think I’m going to wear yoga pants and sports bras for four days straight.
So excited for Fitbloggin’ for SO many reasons. It’s going to be a ball.
