Subtitle: No Tornado. No cry.
Ahhh People.
Ive been derailed from the workouts PLAYouts over the last month or so.
It has been hotter than the proverbial Mo Fo in the ATX and, quite frankly, I chose (theres that word again) to follow the Tornado’s pre-K lead and do what she wanted to do.
- We colored (that didnt work the triceps).
- We painted our nails in bright circa 1980s flashy colors (that didnt work the triceps).
- We held hands and walked (ok that mightcould have been cardio had I NOT stopped every 8 steps to grab her by the chin and announce: I COULD EAT YOUR FACE OFF!).
- We practiced reading (Im woman enough to admit that experience worked my patience—but not my triceps).
- We giggled, snacked on crap & watched a million movies (That was good for my soul, but didnt work the triceps either).
In summation: it’s time.
I need to get back at it (three cheers for muscle memory!) and this post goes out to all of you who have ever commented, tweeted, emailed or texted me:
What’s your workout today, Miz?? SHARE!!
Here it is.
Im announcing so Im held accountable and resist urge to sit in corner counting down until Tornado returns from her book learning.
Im doing this:
Then Im doing a little of this:
Sure my workout could be longer–but you know me. Im all about setting myself up for success and THIS I will do.
Because if I dont—youll call me on it.
Right?
Because if I dont Ill feel badly about it because I know you’re playing along at home.
Right?
Are you in to join me?
Will you tire your triceps in solidarity with this getting back to it misfit?
Please to announce yourself in the comments below.

August 24, 2011 at 4:47 amI’m back in the swing of it today, though later than normal. Triceps will be one of my attentions this afternoon. Or tonight. Being tornado-less has its advantages. 🙂

August 24, 2011 at 6:10 amWhat is this “heat” of which you speak? 😉
Good to know that even YOU need a gentle butt-kicking on the workout front every once in a while!
I suspect my tris will get their workout in the pool this morning and with planks and cobra at yoga tonight. Yay?

August 24, 2011 at 6:17 amIf I tell you how wonderful my workouts have been will that encourage you to get that arse back to it! A cute arse at that! 😉
Ah, triceps!!! I have been having the best triceps workouts lately. I usually work them Monday & Wednesday BUT they have been so good on Mondays that I still feel them today – Wednesday – SO, I have moved day 2 to Thursday while this wonder of triceps continues!!! I mix it up but I am obviously doing a better job than normal. I am feeling every body part these days!
OK, does that get you motivated at all??? 😀

August 24, 2011 at 6:29 amBINGO wings fear….so do 40-50 pushups and swim 4 times a week. Soup cans????…I don’t think so!
Miz says
August 24, 2011 at 6:37 amI’m a soup can believer. It all depends where you (one) are starting from.
My grandma, who passed at 101, was the first woman I know who resistance trained and she lifted with canned goods her whole life 😉

August 24, 2011 at 6:44 amI’m in! Well, at least 50% of me will do it since my left arm is in a full to my shoulder cast. I can’t manage the chair dips with one arm, but I can do the others!
Heather @ Not a DIY Life says
August 24, 2011 at 6:51 amI love the supine extensions! A fab way to work the triceps without aggravating my neck, which likes to be grumpy sometimes. Love you, girl!

August 24, 2011 at 7:07 amYes ma’am!!
Crabby McSlacker says
August 24, 2011 at 7:07 amBroken elbow is mostly healed and is no longer a good excuse for me avoiding the Crabitron! (OK, so it’s just an old folk’s walker I use for dips, but I feel so much bad-ass calling it the Crabitron).
Thanks for the nudge!
Ollie says
August 24, 2011 at 7:09 amOh and yes on the stories Miz!

August 24, 2011 at 7:29 amMy strength training partner is my mom, coincidentally. She is leaving town for 2 weeks and I will need to get myself motivated without her. So… I’m with you!

August 24, 2011 at 7:32 amWOW!!! Perfect timing. I’m sitting at home with a SEVERELY sprained ankle, just getting wider by the day. These are the perfect way to start getting fit. Thank you again, MizFit!
Susan@Paleo Recipe says
August 24, 2011 at 9:30 amI love tough, but short workouts like these exercises can be……in fact, that’s probably how we were designed to workout. Chronic sessions of intense activity don’t seem natural.
BTW, I thought tricep dips were being outlawed as potentially harmful?
JavaChick says
August 24, 2011 at 9:50 amIn honor of Tornado’s first day of school, I will be sure to include triceps in today’s workout. Have a great day Miz!

August 24, 2011 at 2:22 pmI ran several miles, what heat? Oh that. Did one hour on the stairmaster while watching a movie, and just finished punching a speed and heavy bag.
School started this week in Florida 🙂

August 25, 2011 at 7:28 amI tried my first powerplate ever, after 3 weeks of doing absolutely nothing except moderate swimming everyday and a little waterski.
Man, it was hard.
Back at the office now, I’m trying to convince myself to workout when I go home.
I hate my arms! I’ll start with some tricepts. TODAY. Promise.
And I’ll go back to the gym on Sept 5 when school starts, for some serious elliptical training. Promise. Yeah.
Maria (RealFitMama) says
August 25, 2011 at 7:13 pmI’m currently P90X-ing it and finishing up week 4. There are days that my triceps get worked, days my abs get worked, days my bum gets worked, days I do different dog poses and days I get my cardio on.
Then there are days when my patience (like yours) gets worked. Who the EFF am I kidding?? That’s EVERYDAY!! 😆
Deb says
August 27, 2011 at 5:51 pm“Stuck” with my mainly upper body workouts, I am re-embracing the bar: Bench Presses one day; overhead press another day; and 2 days of bar bell complex movements to serve as my cardio.
I’m increasing the weight my smidgens every week (even using the 1-1/4# plates) but progressing and moving and using my limitation as a line of deliniation instead.
By the time I get a new hip, I should have my guns back.

August 29, 2011 at 2:02 amI have a really random question- I tore my achilles tendon and I’m stuck in a not-so-lovely aircast for the next 3-6 months. Not exercising is driving me crazy- I need my endorphins. 🙁 Walking is not fun- standing for 20 minutes or longer is not that great either. Is there some sort of exercise I can do sitting down? Is there anything you can recommend?

February 7, 2012 at 8:58 amNice post. I have found there are quite a few excellent bodyweight exercises anybody can execute without equipment. These work outs are effective for toning the body and increasing fitness. When on the road and staying in motels I use tricep dips, bodyweight squats, press ups, burpees as well as mountain climbers. All effective exercises for staying fit and toned.
