Please welcome Jessica. She’s badass. She’s hardcore. She’s a friend of mine. She’s a woman who KNOWS life is too too too short to spend it over-training…
Many of us workout to get sexy.
Cut biceps, lean thighs, and endorphins are some of the few things that keep us coming back for more.
However, you can have too much of a good thing.
Meaning, you can exercise too much. (MizFit note: translation–dont be me!)
Clear signs you might be on the “burnout train” include, decrease performance, mood changes, delayed recovery, fatigue and insomnia.
These symptoms are clearly, not sexy.
So instead of working out super hard everyday for 90 days straight and then crashing, try to take at least one recovery day a week. (MizFit note: rest rest rest is SO underrated)
Create sustainable energy loops in your body by checking in on a daily basis to see what is available.
Don’t get it twisted, getting an 8-pack in a few months is impressive, but it’s not worth your health.
True health, being of sound mind, body and spirit for the long haul is REAL sexiness.

what year is this?
I work out to compete- with myself and others.
Never for vanity-but sadly most gym rats are there for that reason only.

February 1, 2013 at 9:10 pmI used to not take off when I was younger but I learned & now take off 2 full days each week. In my younger days when I finally would take a day or 2 off, I still felt like I need to do abs or core or something. Now * for years – 2 full days! 🙂

February 2, 2013 at 8:09 pmI totally agree and take one total rest day every week. I do nothing, not even if I want to. I also do one active recovery/low impact day at barre class.

February 3, 2013 at 12:14 pmHey Ladies!
Jessica here.
First off, thank you Carla for featuring my post.
You are a serious badass, and I am super impressed by your content and COMMUNITY!
Second, to all the ladies that could do without the work “sexy”, I hear you.
It sounds like most of you here do not workout for such reasons.
However, many many women do (and I was one of those women), and I was just looking to give them a different way to relate to their workouts and themselves.
However, for futures, the “s” word will be left out 😉
Third, so happy many of you relate to the TRAIN SMARTER, NOT ALWAYS HARDER mantra. One of the biggest reasons why we plateau is because we have too much stress in our lives…. and remember exercise is a form of stress. Work with the natural ebbs and flows of your energetic system and you will be more effective for the long haul.
More postings to come, and if you have any specific topic requests, post them here.
Looking forward to more.

February 4, 2013 at 11:22 amNot too many people can go week after week without rest and continue to stay on a fitness regimen. You’re right that at least one rest day a week is vital to good health. Sometimes its hard to not do anything so a walk or something is okay, but compromising your health and physical well-being is not worth it. Pushing your body day after day to feel good is not worth the weeks you may be out if you get injured.
Morgan@Balanced Daily says
February 4, 2013 at 1:55 pmAgreed! It is necessary to have at least a one day rest period every week for your physical health. It’s better for you to take two to three rest days a week and on those days either take them off or do a low intensity workout like a quick yoga session or stretch!
