The Way to Well bus is in OAKTOWN!
The following is a sponsored post by Walgreens & the Way to Well health tour.ย Walgreens had no previous knowledge I pretty much LIVE at the corner of happy & healthy and all opinions are my own.
When presented with an opportunity I know immediately if it’s a fit.
As soon as I was contacted about the Walgreens Way To Well bus tour, I knew Id say yes for two reasons.
First, this misfit LOVES her Walgreens.ย Some women adore fancy shops–the Husband knew Id be overthemoon our new Oakland home is walking distance to the ‘Greens.ย Vitamins, snacks, nail polish, toys, gifts, cards, protein bars all under the same roof? Whats not to love?!
The second more important reason is the Way to Well tour was created for similar reasons to why I launched MizFit.ย I wanted to giveaway my knowledge to people who might not have the funds for a trainer.ย Walgreens started the tour to bring *free* health testing to communities with high incidence of the leading diseases & uninsured/unemployed members.
The tests, valued at over 100 dollars, include: total cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, body composition, skeletal muscle, resting metabolism, visceral fat, real body age and body weight.
I was honored to be invited to attend the 10,000th event (!) and share my healthy living knowledge with my community.
And yes.ย As soon as she heard—the child announced she was coming, too.ย We all love Walgreens around here.
The Way to Well event was amazing.
Everyone was excited to get started serving the community.
Our community.
It isnt overstating to say we knew we had the opportunity to change lives through the tests offered and information shared.

The team and me!
They initiated me into the Way to Well tour crew:

Im official!
Next we headed inside the bus.
The doctors office on wheels behemoth where the testing takes place.ย I walked through each testing module & saw not only were participants assessed–they were given privacy and undivided attention as they were evaluated.

The bus was HIGH TECH heaven.
And then I was set free.
I mingled and shared healthy living tips.
I chatted with one woman about N.E.A.T. and helped her realize there were ways to squeeze calorie burning into her crazybusy life.
Another man & I brainstormed healthy eating options he could find inside Walgreens—somewhere he said he stopped virtually daily already.
More than anything I was moved by the stories.ย
One couple drove from over an hour away determined to get the health tests as they’d missed the bus last time it was here.
Another woman shared with me how glad she was for the Way to Well health tour stop in Oakland because for the past two years she’d thought she might have diabetes.
I felt proud of my Oakland community and grateful to play even a small part in the Walgreens Wellness Tour 10,000th event.
The event I attended is part ofย Walgreens’ Way to Well Commitmentยฎ.ย A $100 million initiative to improve the everyday health of Americans nationwide.
I knew I loved my Walgreens.
I just hadnt realized how much they loved me–the royal ME. the nationwide consumer ME.—back.
- Do you think it’s important for stores to invest in the community around them?
The Way to Well tour leaves Oakland May 19th and continues across the country.ย Dates for your city can be found here.
This is a wonderful program! I’ve never heard of the Way to Well bus. Such an awesome service!
What a cool day! We love Walgreens too. Twas there twice last week alone.
I just checked the site and doesn’t look like they are coming near me anytime soon – I would love to get these tests done for free!
I love Walgreens. Their pharmacists offer the best customer service EVER. They are efficient, but take the time to answer questions and make sure you understand the directions. And, yes, I love the one-stop-shop-ability. I do think it is important for companies to invest in the communities that keep them going–it sounds like the Way To Well tour is fantastic. And you made the Oakland stop that much better!
i haven’t heard of the way too well but itz awesome you got to be a party of it!!
and you’re always a party, but i did mean a PART of it haha
Sounds great! I don’t think we have any Walgreens near me ๐
That is very cool of walgreen’s to do. Very cool. I like in Tiny Town, so we don’t have anything like that with our Walgreen’s.
Looks like this was a really fun event! Our local Walgreens here in CLE is great. Their stores put together a huge team for our Arthritis Walk this past weekend. They are a great supporter of the community in so many ways.
I don’t know if we have one coming, but sounds like a super idea!
I have health insurance now for the first time in decades.
I’ll never take for granted.
What a great idea, Walgreens!!!
LOVE that they are bringing healthcare to the masses. As a Canadian gal who take full advantage of our public health care system, I simply can not imagine what it is like to be without it.
They ARE coming to my city.
Thanks Mizzy.
Wow, have a Walgreen’s right down the street, guess I should walk down and take a look instead of driving to Walmart !
Me too!
I think that’s great that Walgreens is working with local communities– when companies do stuff like that, it makes me want to shop there over the nondescript competitor.
Plus, Walgreens always carries the coolest, most random stuff known to man ๐
This looks so cool! Healthcare is still such an issue everywhere. I love community events like this.
You know I love this Carla!! SO IMPORTANT!!! The only thing I wish is that some of these clinics came to middle class communities too since there are a lot of uninsured too – people that are self employed & can’t afford to get it on their own & those struggling to get by while living in a place better for their kids & those that just got eaten up by the economy.. BUT a great thing & I wish more would do it!
I love they chose you to join them MIZ.
Oakland is lucky to have you, too.
Wow. Awesome event and movement. Before this I had never heard of this campaign! I only hope it continues to grow and impact lives
This is so awesome. Yes, I do think stores should invest in the communities. I realize they are there for profit of course, but when they integrate and actually care, that builds trust as well. I think we need more of these types of things.
Walgreens is spoiled.. by YOU! They NEED you and YOUR HEALTHY MIZFIT ways, mentally and physically. SO SO HAPPY! and very cool program
What an awesome opportunity for you AND Walgreens! I think it is so important for stores to get involved in their community. This is a great way to help people that would have otherwise not had access to these resources! Also this is a more nonthreatening way for people to learn about health and themselves!! Well done MIZ and Greens!
This is amazing and so,so,so,so,so needed. Well done Walgreens. Please come to Canada (you too Miz!)
Whenever I’m traveling and need a drugstore, I say “find Walgreens” into my phone. They’re usually clean, safe, and nearby. Plus — most are open 24 hours now in big cities.
Me too.
I need to look and see if they have an app!
Amazing program they are putting on! So happy to hear how much you loved your experience and how you were able to share your knowledge with the community!
Hmmm… I haven’t heard about the bus stopping through my area. This is preposterous!!! (or maybe I should just look into it first before preposterous-ing about it?)
Dang, wish I’d had you popping into Oaktown drugstores when I lived there! Sounds like an awesome program!
I was following your tweets, IG and FB this weekend. It looks like an amazing program! ๐
I agree. It’s all about the stories with things like this.
I hope you continue your partnership with them. It’s a great fit, Carla.
I don’t have a Walgreen’s in walking distance but I can run there so WIN! Love the bus!
They are coming here!!!!
You are pretty girl ๐
I absolutely love what they’re doing with this bus! Fantastic program. And you are, I’m sure, a fantastic addition to the show!
So sad they are not coming my way in Cali! ๐ I’d love to have these tests done all at once!
Many times when I’m not in the mood for exercising on a day when I’m supposed to be exercising, I’ll walk myself to Walgreen’s instead. That way, it’s *shopping*, not exercising. The fact that it’s a 30-40 minute walk, round trip, is entirely coincidental. ๐
I was just at Walgreen yesterday. I love the randomness of their stores – stuff I can’t find anywhere else, I usually can at Walgreens.
Love this. I’m glad they’ve got you!
What an amazing program! I’m so happy that you got to be a part of it. Did it make you feel even more settled in your new ‘hood?
Sadly, we have no Walgreens here. The closest thing would be a Walmart and it’s a looooong drive from my house.
Thanks for sharing!
Love Walgreens and all they are doing. I encourage all my clients to do the Balance Rewards Healthy Strides program. Free $$ for walking. What could be better?
This is such a great idea!
I am like you are.
I love Walgreens and didn’t know they loved me too.
I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful partnership Miz.
How cool!! I had no idea they did that–definitely going to check it out and see if it comes to my hood!
This is a great post. I hadn’t heard about Walgreen’s tour but I adore the store as well and am very pleased with what they are doing. I think healthcare should be nationwide and it is sad that some people don’t even have access to it at all. We are all humans and equally important. Caring for our health should be #1. It’s a shame that so many people can’t.
I love everything about this and Walgreens!
I think these things are necessary and not everyone has access to the materials for a healthier life or know where to get started. I am so glad Walgreens does this.
Wow – what an amazing way to spend a day. What a great experience for you and all the people you touched that day.
I have never heard of the Way to Well tour – I guess they haven’t made it through Kansas yet – I should check.
I really love that the Tornado wanted in!!!
That is terrific! So many people miss out on tests that need either because of lack of insurance or crazy high copy’s. I’m glad Walgreen’s is taking the initiative and doing what’s right for their customers!
I love Walgreens. I like just wandering the aisles, looking at all the STUFF they have there. But somehow I guess I missed the tour. Looking at the schedule, they have already passed through my So Cal area ๐
If a store is not investing in the community, it’s not a true part of the community. Glad to hear this about Walgreens.
This is such an awesome thing for Walgreens to do. I love Walgreens, but for different reasons…they have makeup brands I can’t find anywhere else. ๐
Wow, thats great what an awesome service. I’ve always loved Wallgreens too- they have everything! And the fact that they have this healthy living initiative in place makes me like the company even more.
I’m a big fan of Walgreens too! The “Way to Well” tour must be such a blast. I wish they were coming through my area!
They could not have found a better person to represent them than you!
What a wonderful program! It’s great that you were able to be there. That’s great that they made you part of the crew – how fun and interesting.
It is so important for stores to invest in and become part of the community and I love that Walgreens is giving back in such an awesome way.
Wow, what an amazing opportunity to help spread knowledge to others. I haven’t had a lot of those tests tough and I go to the Doctors all the time!
What an awesome opportunity and you are the PERFECT person for the job!
I love this- what a great program!
I’ve been waiting all day to read this! I’m so so happy that it went well. It sounds like an incredible experience and opportunity and I love how this so screams MizFit! I think that you should hop on the bus and take it on a tour cross-country to see me!
Wow! How fun was that!? That wellness test looks awesome! I have to continually get my cholesterol checked and know how expensive that test is.
So exciting that you got to be part of it all!
Free health testing? That’s amazing. You can’t manage what you don’t measure and with health tests being so expensive this can be tough for most of us. Great that ‘big business’ is supporting the community.
What an amazing program!!
Very inspiring article. Thank for all the great information about the great program.
I love this idea – bring healthcare to those who need it!
What a great program. Go Walgreens!
That is a fantastic program.
I really appreciate such activities where you can enjoy the company of good people, especially when you are doing it for some noble cause or a positive activity. Human health is the most precious thing and people should prefer joining such wonderful events.
