Recently Ive had reminders how short life is.
If we dont slow down & listen to voices asking us to PLAY & not write about PLAYouts when we’re “ready” it may be too late.
This post isnt about the prolific health benefits of jumping rope (sorry not sorry).
It’s an invitation to join the Tornado & me in JUMPING not READING about said jumpage.
Lets PLAYout!
Portable.
Least expensive workout EVER!
Arain or shine exercise!
Young people in our lives get the chance to play the EXPERT!
Overall/whole body workout.
Underestimated consistently for the FUN and LAUGHTER it provides.
Time for a fast session? ALWAYS!!
(seriously.Β GO. thats yer call to action. grab a rope.Β git playing. life is too short not to.)
Long for serious musings on the myriad benefits of the rope? Stay tuned. the LEAN GREEN BEAN arrives *friday* to lend a hand.

October 16, 2013 at 1:36 amI avoid jump ropes simply because I stink at it. Double unders? I can barely get single unders. π It is a serious workout BUT also serious fun. I better get working on my skills since my kids are soon to be jump roping age!
Kristina Walters @ Kris On Fitness says
October 16, 2013 at 2:14 amI have tried it. Agreed, lots of fun. However, major coordination issues prevents me from doing it well.

October 16, 2013 at 3:53 amI used to LOVE jump rope! I need to remember the songs that went with the jumping of the rope!
Meredith @ DareYouTo says
October 16, 2013 at 3:54 amYay for play! Just went and pulled out my jump rope (not as fun or gym-classy as yours, but oh well) for regular use and play!

October 16, 2013 at 4:09 amLove this. Jumping rope is SO much fun.
Back in the day, I taught second grade. In PE class, they learned how to jump rope. It was hysterical to watch some of the kiddos learning to coordinate the rope and their legs. Ah, good times. π

October 16, 2013 at 4:47 amI really like these posts where you encourage us to just play.
Before my twins I had not played in years and I wonder why I ever waited.

October 16, 2013 at 5:05 amThere’s that circus music again! I have not jumped roped in ages. I am so clutzy with it now, but when I was a kid we had jump rope wars at recess.

October 16, 2013 at 5:05 amI just found some awesome chevron jumpropes for Halloween!! You would think as an elementary school teacher I would have jump roping down but I am not so great…still it is an awesome workout and you can’t help but smile while you do it!!

October 16, 2013 at 5:07 amI love this, too, Miz.
My daughter would freak out if I jumped with her.

October 16, 2013 at 5:08 amOH MY GOODNESS.
That video is too funny, Miz.
You need to join the circus, at least as a whistler.

October 16, 2013 at 5:11 amI echo the flip flop jump roping! π
As for life being short – YES! I have had way too many reminders of that in my lifetime & now more hitting me.. You think you are all healthy & then BAM, you are on your way out! Not me but someone close.

October 16, 2013 at 5:17 amI try and jump rope at TRX a few times a week. It’s amazing how that little motion can really work you out!

October 16, 2013 at 5:20 amHoly bananas. I jump the ropes at CrossFit a lot and it always annihilates me. Plus, I start remembering how easy it was when I was 10 and then I’m totally baffled π

October 16, 2013 at 7:03 amI hate that a fun childhood item like the jump rope has been used as a dreadful form of exercise. This is something fun to do for kids and adults alike. This can keep exercise fun if you don’t take it too serious.

October 16, 2013 at 7:21 amJumping rope is an excellent cardio workout which builds coordination and stamina. Best of all it can be done most anywhere and ropes are inexpensive.

October 16, 2013 at 8:20 amFrom what i gather, there’s a gadget now that is for jumping rope without the rope, for those of us who trip over the doggone thing too much. Although, if you are mommy and the kids are laughing, watching you trip, it’s still fun and a workout.

October 16, 2013 at 8:22 amOOH YES! the JUMP SNAP! I have one…somewhere π

October 16, 2013 at 9:14 amI NEED TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP STRESSING!!! I was stressing hard core yesterday and I fear that I may suffer the same fate today. I know what it’s from but I cannot quite wrap my brain around doing what I have to, along with EVERYTHING ELSE!!! I just need to find time, turn off the internet (or at least social media), shut off my phone and FOCUS!!! Okay, I will do this! Maybe later today or tomorrow morning. GAHHH! Figure this out, I will I will!
Katie @ Peace Love & Oats says
October 16, 2013 at 9:58 amoh my gosh I’m so bad at jump roping! Granted I never practice… I used to be quite good – in second grade jump roping during recess was really popular, we’d use the long ropes and have songs and games. LOVED it! Recess needs to make a comeback.
Kim says
October 16, 2013 at 11:42 amLove jumping rope and should do it more – although I don’t have any cool tricks like you and jumping in flip flops would probably send me to the hospital.
I’m always amazed when I pull the ropes out at boot camp – no one wants to even try with the rope – I always make them try at least 2x cause I’m mean and they should!!!
Kristina @ Diet Nutrition says
October 16, 2013 at 12:38 pmI’ve bought rope other day, but after 10 min of jumping i got pain in left knee. I’ll have to stick with cycling
