As I sit here–blank post open on my blog dashboard–I barely know where to begin.
I’m grateful.
Grateful for the fact, once upon a LONG time ago, a blogger I admired (& was almost afraid to approach) agreed to do a guest post for me.
Almost exactly six years ago today.
This was back in the *day* when there weren’t as many of us, Twitter was barely a thing, and blogging could be super, incredibly isolating.
(apparently 6 years ago we dressed alike, too.)
I dragged Roni into being my virtual co-worker of sorts.
- Uncertain what to bid on a project? I called Roni.
- Have a fantastic idea but wondering if there’s a *reason* said idea hasn’t been done? I called Roni.
- Need a partner for a potential work-gig? I called Roni.
I dragged Roni into being my virtual friend of sorts.
- I lamented I’d never CRUSH! IT!–yet was juggling all I could with work and mamahood.
- I leaned on her when life felt too much & I yearned to yank the virtual plug on social media endeavors. She’d share when she felt the same.
- I confided in her how I longed to write a book. She shared she felt the same.
We wrote and we wrote and we commiserated and we wrote and yet nothing we created conveyed precisely what we wanted.
Ideas were fleshed out and tossed aside.
Book proposals were labored over and but just didn’t flow.
Until Roni created the #wycwyc challenge.
“I love #wycwyc!” I told her. “I don’t do challenges—yet what you can when you can is how I live. Do my best daily—creatively cram in what I can when I can-–get back up & reach *again* for my goals the next day.”
- WickWick—as the Tornado and I pronounced it—became part of our family’s vernacular.
- WickWick became a way to focus on large goals yet know it’s the seemingly small steps which get us there.
- #WYCWYC became the Tornado’s way of reminding herself she’s already enough.
And then it got bigger.
Online friends started using the #wycwyc hashtag on twitter, facebook and instagram.
Friends who *aren’t* online started mentioning to me how my sharing the what you can when you can mentality changed their approach to healthy living.
Small incremental changes & efforts add up over time.
Even though we’d vowed we’d pitched our final pitch (entrepreneurs much? we caint stop!!) we melded minds, wove words, and this time was the charm.
We did it.
After so many efforts which didn’t quite work—we did it.
We did it because doing what we can when we can is who we are.
We did it because #wycwyc is how we live & it’s the only way we know.
These next few weeks of manuscript-finalizing and polishing promise to be CrAzY ones.
Hectic weeks which spark me, again, to be grateful for the notion conveyed in the hashtag.
- Ill be blogging (as best I can when I can).
- Ill be who Ive always been (giving my best effort & knowing it’s enough).

Somehow I have missed this so far, but that is a wonderful concept, and I will definitely try to bring it into my life, especially as I can sometimes put waaayyyy too much pressure on myself to be perfect, and to achieve goals that my body is not quite ready for in my running career.
