“What are you trying to get to?” asks a stranger with a sweaty, kind face and muscles of steel. “Excuse me?” I huff, having zero idea what he is asking. He looks confused and points at my shirt. “How much are you trying to lose?” I stare down at my shirt emblazoned with the Skinny Emmie character that proclaims I’m “down 110+ pounds, a lifetime to ... I love you, Mom (ovarian cancer awareness guest post).
September is ovarian cancer awareness month. This cause is very near and dear to my heart because I lost my Mother seven years ago due to ovarian cancer. Her cancer was a blessing and a curse all at the same time. Â Here is her story: The week before Christmas, 1997, my Mother ended up in the emergency room in immense pain from what she thought was pleurisy. She had been sick with the flu and ... What would you give? (guest post)
I love the interwebs, even more so over the past several years with the advent of social media growing so much. It makes the world a much smaller place. Without the interwebs, I likely would never have met any of the phenomenal fitbloggers I’ve had the joy of meeting in person, like our own MizFit (don’t EVEN get me started on how muchI freaked out excited I was when she asked me to write a ... Things Ive learned since losing almost half of me (guest post).
You have to start out small. Do not look at the big number you need to lose by the time you are done. Set small reachable goals like 5% of your weight or 5 or 10 pound increments. Each time you reach one celebrate! Chipping away at 120 pounds was easier when I looked at it 10 pounds at a time. You will sustain change over time by making 1-2 small changes every week or 2 and building upon them. I ... Continue Reading
Minimalism rules to live by (guest post).
Is Minimalist Running for You? If you are into running at all, you’d have to be living under a rock to not know that barefoot running is a huge trend right now. For some it’s a scary prospect. For others, it’s the only way to go. I’m not going to get into the debate, although I will say I’m a believer in the virtues of barefoot running. That said, barefoot running can be a slippery slope if ... Continue Reading
Finding Your Motivation to Get Healthy (guest post)
Hey all. My name is Hank and I appreciate the opportunity to guest post here. Allow myself to introduce myself. You have most likely heard the I-have-always-been-over-weight story before. Well sorry to be cliche. :) My weight is sort of like a historical stock market analysis. It's was up a month ago. It was down the other day. But all the while it has been steadily climbing upwards. ... Continue Reading
How to give workouts purpose & vision by discovering your W.H.Y.
Thanks so much to Joyce, the Moore than Fitness Coach for this guest post Picture this…Sicily 1932…(couldn’t help it…I’m a Golden Girls fan)…Seriously, picture this… It’s April 15th and the first hint of spring has hit the air. The sun is shining and the flowers are starting to peek out of their buds. After months of cold weather you feel like it’s time to put the top down, if only for a ... Continue Reading
My Retro Fitness Secret… (guest post)
My name is Retro Mimi, and if you read my blog, 1972: The Retro WW Experiment - you know that I like to write about my adventures in retro dieting. Sometimes the food can be a little scary, but it is ALWAYS fun. So when the wonderful and generous Carla asked for a guest post, I thought it would be interesting to explore the concept of retro fitness & exercise. I looked at it as a ... Continue Reading
Should women lift weights? (guest post)
(Why no. I didn't train with the Angry Trainer, but I would have if he'd lived nearby!) For the last twenty years I have listened to women complain that lifting weights will give them big muscles, that it will make them look like a man, and have sat by and watched as they have neglected a very important aspect of any fitness program - strength. I've seen numerous fitness “gurus” ... Continue Reading
Living from the inside OUT!
Please to welcome Lori. She's another NOT The Biggest Loser and a blogger, runner, reader, writer, WOMAN I adore and admire. Writing guest posts always takes me way out of my comfort zone. Those who know me argue that I’m not as introverted as I think I am but I know who I am. Unless I know someone I tend to be shy when it comes to strangers. I’m just not “that” girl. You know the one who ...
