February 2, 2009 at 2:31 amMiz– Happy blog-tastic Birthday week! I FLIP over your site because: You’re so REAL. You offer up advice that I can relate to and feel as though you have struggled with the same things. LOVE motivational match-ups. What a great way to connect with someone working towards a goal just like me!
Please enjoy your week of fantastic birthday fun!

February 2, 2009 at 2:40 amEven though I already said it via Twitter, Happy Blogoversary!!! As much as I love all the amazing information on your site, I think the thing I FLIP about the most is just how supportive you are of everyone, regardless of where we are on our journey. You have been such an amazing cheerleader for me on my blog which means more to me than you know. It’s always nice to feel like someone out there “gets” me and is rooting for me to succeed. In face, I’ve been so inspired by your facetime segments that I’ve actually decided to start doing some vlogging of my own. *gulp*
Thanks for all you do, Miz. You totally rock!!!

February 2, 2009 at 3:04 amYou must be so darn flippin’ proud!
To hear Happy Blogoversary right out loud.
Your offerings have flipped lives around.
And flipped the scales from pound to pound.

And comment rarely even then.
But I commend you for the work you do
And I wish the best blogoversary to you.

Miz – you rock (and you roll)(you know, that’s just how you roll in here…)
I love it all, although one day that stands out for me:
Your grocery aisle exercises (or were they antics!) – and a video to boot – proof that you did it – proof, once again, just how you really do rock!
You’re keepin’ it real here…
You’re awesome and one!

February 2, 2009 at 3:53 amHappy Birthday Blog! And a great year of reads it’s been. I love ’em all but truly appreciate the MizFit bracelet. When I catch a glimpse of it throughout the day, I stand up a little straighter, recommit to thinking fit, and smile in a grateful-for-it-all way.

So I must say to MizFit,

Your site has given so much in such a little time. Whilst it has given so much in and of itself, perhaps the biggest gift your website has given me is connections to so many others of your bumbling band. I hope you won’t take this in a negative way, because it is not meant as such. I think it is the quality of the material and advice on your website, that attracts so many other “real” people who have so much to give as well.
Miz – you are the best!

February 2, 2009 at 5:11 amWell done Miz!! Only one year and so so many followers!
I flip a few times every week. Unfortunately sometimes my flips get lost in the space time continuum so I have to re-experience them a few times before they truly take !! π
I think your attitude towards making life work for you and doing things the way they suit you best is a really important thing for me to grasp.
Keep up the good work Miz!

I keep coming back everyday because you are a real person. The way you write and record your posts feels like it’s just us chatting away; its a give and take, never a one sided conversation. And I get more out of that than just reading an advice column sort of blog.
My favorite topics included the getting rid of the scale discussion and the talk about quitting those things that just aren’t right for you. Both of those were my biggest Aha! moments, and the ones I’ve taken to most from. Although, I take something from either you or the commenters pretty much everyday!
Thanks for all you do for us, Mizfit! I hope I can contribute back in my own way.

What makes me flip is all the new information you bring to the masses! You get me thinking – and it feels effortless (you know – grad school – thinking can suck – lol). I also love that you have guests on here that are famous or that I enjoy already. They all bring a new perspective, which is great! Or how you answer our questions, even if you’ve already covered it. February 2, 2009 at 9:20 amWhat has made me flip? Talk about “just begging for a really long comment”… π
What hasn’t? Let’s see. My personal very most favoritest is the Vision Board – it’s been such an amazing tool for me – but I love your emphasis on Random Acts of Kindness, on being present, on being down-to-earth and REAL about the whole process of living healthy. There’s such a genuine, logical, sensible spirituality about you and this blog, and that never fails to speak to me in a way that wakes me up and makes me pay attention to what I’m REALLY doing – not what I plan to do, not what I wish I were doing, not what I’m beating myself up for not doing. It’s just so honest and no-BS. I love it.
And I love the insights and clarifications of other commentors. That’s my second favorite thing, I think – you’ve provided such a safe and open forum for so many people to share. It’s a perfect example of what makes the blogosphere so great. π
Happy BlogBirthday Week…and many, many more!

I don’t remember the exact post, but it was over Christmas 2008. February 2, 2009 at 11:02 amHappy Blogbirthday!
One silly-but-fun blog entry to remember: how many of us have incorporated S.L.A.P. into our lives b/c of this one: http://carlabirnberg.com/2008/07/26/slap-and-the-power-of-personal-catchphrases/ ?
I also think my trying to add more protein to my life might have something to do with you and your arms, and also the way I lift weights (starting very low and focusing on form before progressing). Those are concrete, fitnessy things.
Then there are just the offhand comments you make that make me think (I confess) I would buy a parenting book, if you wrote it. Does that sound weird from someone who doesn’t have kids? I just get this warm feeling sometimes like you are raising a good kid in this world and though it’s not a central focus of the blog at all, I flip for those little comments. They appeal to the wannabeasanemama someday side of me.

February 2, 2009 at 11:04 amHappy blogversary! Don’t take this the wrong way – but it’s only been a YEAR? Seems like you’ve been with us forever! (I think that’s a compliment on a blogversary, as opposed to a birthday, where saying you seem old wouldn’t be so nice…)
You know what I love? All the reader mail you share with us. I really lik the opportunity to hear your 2 cents, then read other’s 2 cents, and then share my 2 cents. I also love the way you emphasize how your way is not the only or necessarily “right way”, rather what works for you, and everyone is different. It’s important to remember that.
Thanks for a year of great sharing!

February 2, 2009 at 11:12 amI can’t believe this blog is only one year old. It’s crazy. And I’ve only really been here a month maybe? But Happy Blogiversary, MizFit!
Hmm, it’s hard for me to pick a post that made me flip, because what got me hooked here was the atmosphere and your personality. And like Graized mentioned a few posts up, you actually post in people’s blogs π You’re a blogger of the people, and that’s cool.
So, no post for me, though I might mention the stiff-legged deadlifts π
Peace

February 2, 2009 at 11:23 amMiz, Congratulations and Happy Birthday!
I have to confess that the main thing that keeps me coming back isn’t so much an individual post (although I love all the videos, espcially the one of you lunging to the bank!), but really your ARMS are INSPIRING. Seeing your smiling face in the black “Be Present” tank with those gorgeous arms really helps me feel “it can be done!”
Thanks for everything, and keep it coming, (and would flip for the Flip, WOW, what a gift!)
debby says
February 2, 2009 at 11:31 amMiz, you are something else. The most recent comment I flipped over is yours (#92 above) LOL….
And I can’t believe you have only been doing this a year.
Some of my favorites:
1) video of you doing lunges on the way to the bank
2) your comment (on my blog?) about eating out being more about allowing someone else to do all the chopping/cleaning, etc. Has helped me to change my mindset a little on eating out.
3) Linda won some contest you had with the title of her new blog ‘Fat Don’t Wrinkle.’ That is such a funny clever title, and I really love Linda and her blog, and would never have found her if not for you.
4) Yes, Eva/Madonna/Miz, I continue to be amazed at how you are able to keep track of so very many people and encourage all of them on a personal, individual level.
Picture crowds of people throwing very fit-shaped confetti and yelling adoring comments as you look down from your eliptical (or whatever) machine.
Love to you today Miz!

February 2, 2009 at 11:53 amMiz, I don’t even need to go back over old posts, because a few come immediately to mind. But first, I appreciate the sense of community and togetherness you create at a blog with great information, motivation and comments. I enjoy when you respond within the comments, as if we’re all participating in one big conversation. And two of my lasting inheritances from you are the kitchen towel lunges (already did some this morning) and the MizFit Muffin. One more thing: I love the way your blog presents exercise as something that you just do throughout the day, rather than “making time” for it. There is no time, until maybe we’re all 60 years old. So we have to just do it! Thank you.

I remember flipping when I first came across this site. It was so different and refreshing and funny. So funny- I like humor. How generous of you to be giving away gifts for your special day…can’t say I’ll turn ya down though as I would LOVE a Flip camera!
One post that really stood out to me was when you did exercises in the aisle of the grocery store. Definitely a flip moment for me…oh, you mean I don’t have to be at the gym to exercise?!? It made me realize I can fit random workouts in throughout the whole day. If I don’t have time for the Y, no sweat. I do have time for jumping jacks while I wait for dinner to cook, and I can easily do lunges up and down the cereal aisle. I loved that post!

Oh my gosh…what’s not to flip for up in here? That you care and connect to us, not just here but over in our own blogs. (Like Lucrecia said, that has a lot of power in it.) That your blog is not just about exercising, but the “fitness” of the whole person. The rhymes. The humor. The Motivational Buddies. The Bumbling Band Banter. *sigh* (If I were a cartoon character, I’d have lots of little hearts popping out around me right about now….)
Specific post? I’d have to say the viewer mail regarding how to stay motivated when exercising. (http://carlabirnberg.com/2008/09/03/viewer-mail-27/) It’s not so much about being *motivated* to exercise, but more about just doing it anyway, us being grown a$$ people and that’s what grown a$$ people do, along with flossing regularly. I think that was the biggest mindshift for me personally during the past year.
Oh, and I know everyone loves your arms, but I was so impressed by your calves when I saw your plank demo! π

February 2, 2009 at 2:18 pmI scanned back through the archives as you suggested. I was trying to think about what made me read your blog daily. I mean..it’s not one thing but maybe many. And I rarely do any of your suggested exercises unless I can do them seated. So it’s not those. I really like Monday Face Time though I seem to get to the video late in the day – late enough today to be post one hundred and something. And I don’t need to win anything.
But something in what you do, who you are is inspirational. Maybe I see a bit of me in you.

I think I showed up ’round here in May or June–I know I was posting comments by the end of June because I posted my off-the-top-of-my-head new catchphrase (REBOOT) and won a dog tag. So a memorable post to me was the S.L.A.P. and catchphrase post. It was fun to read all the things people came up with and fun to actually win something. I do believe MizFit is the only blog of which I read every post (besides my own–actually probably don’t even read all my own once I post them).

http://carlabirnberg.com/2008/09/23/gratitude-its-all-about-the-attitude/
“The older I get the less I find that being thankful is a daily struggle or conscious focus. Im grateful most days just for the fact I can get up in the morning (even when the aforementioned awakening is courtesy of the Toddler screaming I WANNNA GO PEEEEE) and, if I find mid-day that my gratitude is waning, itβs far easier now than when I was younger to refocus my feelings.” – I totally related to that.
