Disclaimer: The Mira Fitness Tracker was sent to me for review and this is a sponsored post. Opinions are my own.
It has been years since I’ve agreed to do a sponsored post.
Yep.
In an era where bloggers seem to do more sponsored than navel gazing I’ve tossed in the paid-post towel.
For the most part the opportunities haven’t been a natural fit and creating a story around the product wouldn’t be a win for either the brand or for me.
I changed my mind when offered the chance to review/experience the Mira Fitness Tracker.
(it arrived boxed like a present.)
This mind-shift occurred for two reasons:
- In a male dominated field, Mira is a device targeted at women and yet they didn’t just grab a tracker and, as the phrase goes, shrink it and pink it.
- Mira is
MADE FOR MEcreated with an active woman in mind and not specifically a hard-core performance athlete.
I was mildly intrigued by the notion of a bracelet-wearable with a less “sporty” appearance and which was versatile.
When I agreed to the post, however, I didn’t think those facets would matter much to me much since I rarely “get fancy” (as the child still says).
They mattered.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
The Mira Tracker arrived and I immediately liked the fact it had a stand for charging.ย This may seem a minor detail, but given the fact my previous tracker did not and I struggled to get the charger in/stay in after I set it down—a stand was a huge win to me.
I love the stand!
The device charged quickly and, ever the child of a blogger and a jewelry lover, the 9 year old insisted I photograph it on her wrist.
While she deluded herself with visions of the Mira becoming hers (confession: I have a box filled with unused wearables) I grabbed my iPhone, downloaded the app and began filling out the personalized information.
It was at this point I fell in love.
Unlike any wearable I’ve tried, the Mira app’s questions felt specific to ME and not solely focused on my current fitness intensity/activity level.
ย we all know the answer to this one!
My entire healthy living philosophy (again another NOT-SHOCK) is fitting in fitness where I can.ย The very questions the Mira app asked not just supported but validated my approach:
ย wycwyc ya’all!
I was happily surprised Mira meshed with my whole approach to moving my body.ย Fun (they even used the f-word in the app), fitting it in, and offering motivation/inspiration which was neither patronizing nor overboard.
I was ready.
To the child’s dismay I stripped her wrist of its adornment, glanced at my iPhone one last time, and was amazed at what I saw:
Strive for progress not perfection.
It wouldn’t be overstating to say I took those words as a sign.ย They’ve played such a large role in my life over the last twelve months—I smiled, screen shot, sent to my partner in crime and announced:
We’ve found our fitness wearable!
And I was right.
What I adored about my Mira Fitness experience:
- ย Inspiration not patronization.ย As detailed above, Mira spoke my language and the approach resonated with me.
- Versatility.ย To my surprise, I loved the fact Mira didn’t look like other wearables when I wore it during presentations.ย It also blew my mind out (as the child said again upon seeing this) I could quickly shift the “bean” from bracelet to clip-on.
three cheers for EASY transition to a brooch!
- It’s so me…and really I’m not all that unique.ย It’s what you can when you can in a wearable.ย Mira doesn’t slam me with data I don’t want and wont use.ย The app shows a graph of “data”ย (steps, calories burned, distance traveled etc) collected and suggests *fun* ways I might increase/maintain my activity.
What didn’t I like?
Quite frankly nothing.ย The Mira is easy to set up/start using which is crucial for me.ย I’m busy.ย I’m not a tech-guru.ย I need something where I receive, charge and GO! The Mira Fitness Tracker definitely fit the bill.
What would I change?
The bracelet comes in gold and purple (and three different sizes.ย mine is a small).ย I am a misfit unique in that I’d actually enjoy other more vibrant color options (bright purple, orange etc).
Bottom line?
You can find me sporting Mira around Austin and encouraging others to do the same.ย There’s a place in the market for hardcore, numbers focused, intense intense wearables for athletes—that place simply isn’t on my wrist.
I’ve found, as Ive showed off worn my bracelet/brooch around town, it’s not withย the majority of other women either.
And you?
- Do you currently have a fitness wearable? Which one?
- Do you, too, love the bracelet to brooch in a single
boundclick option?

June 3, 2015 at 4:14 amI’m in the “wearable” market and may have to give this one a try. I want something I can wear daily upon returning to the US. Love the daughter’s modeling!

June 3, 2015 at 4:16 amI have a Garmin for my runs, but take it off when I get to work obviously.
I looked at the Fit Bit Charge but it’s too bulky for work, too.
I love how this one looks!!!

June 3, 2015 at 4:44 amDid the bracelet rub during the day?
Did you make it a clip on during workouts?
Carla says
June 3, 2015 at 5:20 amI asked for a small with the whole thought of I CAINT STAND TIGHT AND DONT WANT IT TO RUB firmly in mind. I don’t have big wrists but definitely think and XS would have been too small for me. Im not a hardcoreanything these days (#wycwyc ๐ all the way) so I left it as a bracelet when I was active!

June 3, 2015 at 4:48 amI have been toying around with buying one. I want to have a better understanding of everything I do and how to improve on it. I will research this one and see if it fits.

June 3, 2015 at 4:57 amHoly wow. Although I consider myself an “intense athlete” there are so many things to love about this tracker #1 the stand #2 the personal info #3 you can clip it!!!!! I’m not a fan of trackers at all but you may have just started to turn me…

June 3, 2015 at 5:07 amI think I read about this when it was a kickstarter.
Could that be right?
I want the purple one like you have but I bet I’d only wear that out and always use the clip.

June 3, 2015 at 5:21 amI do feel like the last person on earth to not be wearing a fitness tracker. I think it goes back to the fact that I’m just not a data collector/analyzer. But perhaps this one is worth a try!
Carla says
June 3, 2015 at 5:28 amIM SO NOT EITHER which is why I tend to use mine just as pedometers and was really surprised I enjoyed how this one encouraged me. Data? Not my thing. Cheering me on apparently is. Who knew? ๐

June 3, 2015 at 5:44 amWow, this activity tracker is gorgeous! Its one of the best looking ones I’ve seen. I have a Nike Fuel band and I enjoyed it (until it broke :(). The Mir Fitness Tracker definitely looks geared towards woman. Looks like it’s worth a buy! Thanks for the review!

June 3, 2015 at 6:13 amLMAO at shrink it and pink it.
You are right though. I want a tracker I’m not an athlete I just want a good-looking pedometer.

June 3, 2015 at 6:24 amThat app looks great! About time there’s a more intuitive, personalized tracker.

June 3, 2015 at 6:38 amThe bracelet is not my style, I don’t really like how it looks.
I have a Fitbit zip since February last year and wear it everyday. The best part is that it’s small and I can zip it on my bra which I always wear.

June 3, 2015 at 7:03 amI love the clip-on option but I’d be afraid I’d forget where I clipped it!

June 3, 2015 at 7:29 amI never heard of this wearable device but it sounds like it’s a great fit for women our age. I have a new FitBit and I won a LifeTrak but your device sounds even better!

June 3, 2015 at 8:18 amI have the Apple Watch, which I love. It’s a fitness wearable plus so much more. However, I primarily use the fitness portions and they really work for me. As a point of interest – how much does the MIRA cost?
Carla says
June 3, 2015 at 8:20 amoh my goodness ๐ that almost made me laugh. I got way too excited over the Mira and did not include the 169.00 price tag (including bracelet tracker charger app).

June 3, 2015 at 8:30 amI’m the kind of person fitness wearables were invented for. I need that tangible feedback. On that note, I’ve had two Misfit Shines which I really liked (didn’t love, but liked) and they’ve both gotten lost. I was considered the Withings but now you’ve got me super intrigued because I really value your opinion in this department. Now, you just need to get an affiliate link so you can make money off of all of those you’ve swayed ๐
Carla says
June 3, 2015 at 8:33 amThe misfit came out when I was still MizFit. For that reason I wanted to adore it. I got one for review and ended up sending it back because I could never get it to work. In addition, I know I will never die a rich woman because I don’t do the affiliate links. I probably said ๐ but I’d rather talk up items and stuffs I love freely and without strings.
I guess I always hope it shall flow back to me ๐

June 3, 2015 at 8:36 amI’ve resisted simply because of the things you mentioned, but now I have no reason to! I love this one and the app seems like such a great way to increase your fitness without making you feel guilty when you can’t. It’s a gentle approach and I like it!

June 3, 2015 at 8:37 amCarla, your review makes me interested in it. I was not before because I didn’t like other styles I saw, hearing about the issues involved etc. The ease and the looks and your recommendation are pushing toward the Mira.

June 3, 2015 at 8:39 amLove the messaging and idea of inspiring and motivating quotes!
And, you know me, would love to see the PURPLE!
Carla says
June 3, 2015 at 8:41 amthat is the purple!!! I was a little bit surprised initially, too. I had expected it to be more vibrant but I surmise you and I are in the minority in wanting a true purple ๐

June 3, 2015 at 9:02 amI have a fitbit one, I either clip it on my bra or drop it in my pocket. The only things I like to see are my steps and how far I’ve gone. The other stuff..meh. ๐ Looks like I would like the Mira too, maybe when my fitbit bites the dust!

June 3, 2015 at 9:38 amGreat review, thank you. I’ve yet to jump onto the fitness tracker train, but have been mulling it over. I’ll give the Mira a look . I especially like that you don’t have to wear it on your wrist , a great option.

June 3, 2015 at 10:07 amI have a garmin vivofit and my only complaint is that I am a watch wearer and since getting it a little over a month ago just can’t wear a watch. I love this clip on option!
My main motivation is working a desk job and wanting to be more active daily. I spend an hour or so a day running/lifting/cross training etc but know I am sedentary a lot. I love the red line reminder to move and it motivates me to walk more in general my daily target is 16,000 now based on my trends.
Being able to clip on like this one – I am definitely going to be researching for an upgrade!

June 3, 2015 at 10:26 amOK, I’m intrigued! This is so different from the one I was using, but stopped using because I was frustrated that I couldn’t get it to do things it was supposed to do, even with customer service help… #endrant I also have a Garmin that I use sometimes, but I use it more for the GPS running watch features than daily tracking.

June 3, 2015 at 10:52 amI use the pace app on my iPhone, it pretty accurate, tracks a lot of data, works in the background. What I don’t like is having to have my phone on me at all times! When it could be charging, and when it’s on my person, I tend to want to use it to check Facebook, read blogs, and I don’t feel present with kids family, and what if I don’t have a pocket! I do exercise regularly 3-4 times a week! I would love the clip option! I’m not much of a bracelet wearer

June 3, 2015 at 2:39 pmI failed at life with my fitbit because sometimes, having it on my wrist just didn’t work out very well. I love that this can turn into a clip-on, and it’s awesome that it’s more personalized!

June 3, 2015 at 7:22 pmI wear a Fitbit One clipped to my bra. I like to wear a watch and bracelets, which is one reason I’ve avoided trackers on my wrist. Plus, most of them are bulky and ugly and wouldn’t go with my jewelry.

June 4, 2015 at 7:54 amI like the sounds of this tracker! That makes so much SENSE for it to change from a bracelet to a clip-on. Versatility is important. And those questions it asks! <3

June 4, 2015 at 12:27 pmCarla, you’ve tapped into a total weakness of mine! I’m a total techie geek, to the point of getting lost in the data at times. I’m currently using the Jawbone UP24 and I like it. I love the data gathered and the analytics, and it synchs with all the other apps I use for food logging, with my Garmin for tracking my runs, etc. I opted for the “Persimmon” rather than black or silver and I haven’t found it to be restrictive in terms of style. I thought it might be “a THING” but … nope.
Also as a bracelet, I don’t get constant questions about “what’s THAT?” like I got with the BodyMediaFit armband – people kept asking if I was alright, if it was a heart monitor, all sorts of concern.
I had the old-school fitbit back in the olden days (like 6 years ago or so) and I LOVED that I could clip it on my bra or pants and no one ever had to know I was a data-gathering fool. This “brooch” idea sounds AMAZING for that. The fitbit does more now than it used to, but at the time it just didn’t provide me with enough information to be helpful. I’m interested in this MIRA though – I’ve never heard of it. I know you have different needs/wants/interests than I do, and I’m curious if they have the level of analytics that would work for me if my UP24 ever disappoints.
Thanks for diving in for this particular sponsored post!

June 4, 2015 at 1:11 pmI’m a Fitbit Fan, I just had it from the start (went from the original Ultra, to the One, which I’m still wearing , but also trying the ChargeHR). But I’m always interested in hearing about other trackers out there. I just really like being more aware of my movement (or lack) and my kids and I have a fun time comparing steps and stats. I love how Fitbit is so accepted by other apps and programs (MFP, Pact, Achievemint, Fitstudio) … my Fitbit has actually paid for itself! I hope all these other trackers will be included in these programs too!

June 19, 2015 at 2:14 pmI love your truthful review about the fitness tracker, but I probably would ever use one like that. I use the Nike+ Sensor to track my running time and distance. It does the trick for me.
Sadly, it does not come with a heart rate monitor. But I have a good idea what my BPM are when I run.
