The universe whispers us messages and, when we dont listen, they get louder till we do.
Ive googled searched high and low and cannot find who said the quote above.
It isnt original to me (was it OPRAH?!)—but I *am* living it.
Allow me to explain.
The Tornado did not earn her nickname because she was docile & mellow.

First day in TX…shes trapped in sling for a reason.
In fact, at night when she wouldnt slumber, Id often watch as she’d do pull-ups on the side of her crib.
(which earned her other nicknames like Toddler FreakyStrong & General Mayhem.ย neither of which flowed well on a blog.)

Toddler FreakyStrong.
General Mayhem The Tornado was a horrible sleeper.ย
She ceased napping at age one.
Her typical routine was to fallย immediately asleep from all her activity & wake a bit later for her nightly lung workout:

ahhh memories.
As a result we weren’t home from Guatemala very long when I decided to take a Radiant Child Yoga course.
I had zero plans to teach other than my class of one, but LOVED the idea of doing poses before bed as part of a wind-down routine.
Being the overzealous misfit I am, however,ย I was so excited by the training I created ToGa (toddler yoga) and dragged friends & their tornadoes into the fun.

Yes. I had to have a logo…
We did poses & frolicked—but I quickly realized—more than anything—the Tornado needed to learn the art of self-soothing.ย
For nighttime and beyond.
We both learned a thing or three about that from this guy (pour out some dog food for our fallen homie):

a face only a misfit could love…
Life grew busy & got in the way—but the universe still whispered.
At our photo-shoot for Austin’s Fittest Mom it was *she* who suggested we do yoga poses:

closetotoppling trees.

Namaste.
Still I didnt heed the messaging.
Id head off to yoga solo only to find her like this when I returned:

sweet, sweet limber youth.
Other days she’d spontaneously lead me in a practice:

“Mama do this!”

“0ooh I like!”
In the stress of the move I turned AWAY from yoga instead of toward.
I knew better, but was too exhausted to add another item to my list—even if my hips demanded it it was self-care.
Shortly after we hit OAKtown the Tornado started asking if I would teach yoga at her new school.ย She said she’d be my helper.
She made me a coffee cup emblazoned with the image of us doing yoga.
(the universe was shouting)

I do love my coffee…
I picked her up from school one day & instead of the usual OOH MAMA CAN WE GO TO THE PARK? or IT’S HOT CAN WE GO GET A POPSICLE? she announced:
I wanna go right home and do yoga.

DoGa? Deck Yoga?
And we did.
We took turns “teaching” and she shared, again, how she wished I’d teach yoga to her friends at school.
And the universe hit me over the head.
And I listened.
FINALLY.
To bastardize a quote Ive decided to LEAP and *know* the class will appear.
A class of one.ย A class of many.ย I have no clue…yet.
All I know is I’ll have a tiny helper by my side & am excited to let go and watch this all unfold.
- What messages has the universe whispered to you recently? Are you ready to listen?
- Do you ever leap & “know” resources will appear when you need them?
I completed 200 hours of yoga teacher training, and recently made a specialized class that I’d like to offer from my house. How would I go about doing that if I was going to charge people?
The universe whispered that I should pursue health coaching (even though I’m already a well educated educator). It was a little scary, but I’m so glad I listened!
I’m so excited for you Mizzy. This is a perfect fit.
And what a lovely helper she is ๐
I’m working on the listening Carla. Perhaps I should take up yoga and get more in tune with self and the universe.
Awesome! My sister does this exact thing!
Those two pictures of you guys in the middle of this post are just breath-taking!
this is amazing!!! so excited for you!
YAY! I think you were meant to be a yoga teacher. I hope to get my teacher training starting in 2014. It’s something that I think the universe wants me to do.
Oh, they will come and you will rock it!
I tend not to listen until the world crashes around me. THen I listen :/
Thanks for the post……you really rock it
COME TO MY SCHOOL AND TEACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d have to say amazing!!
This is so awesome. You are the PERFECT person for the job ๐
Your daughter is SO cool. Although, you are living proof that moms can make it through almost anything (no naps after age 1?? Whaaaaaaaaat?). Congrats!
The kids (and parents) at y’all’s school are in for a huge treat – I have no doubt that between you and the Tornado that class is going to grow and grow and grow!!! I’m jealous that we don’t live out there so we could go!!
I don’t have kids myself but I certainly have some neice and nephew ‘Tornados’ that would benefit from some yoga!
Today I saw the end of the rainbow disappearing into the ocean. I took it as the universe whispering to me that my pot of gold is not far away. ๐
This is WONDERFUL!! I love that your tornado likes to yoga with you! Best of luck with the class!
Also, looking through all of the baby pictures and stories in this post…your tornado and my youngest have a LOT in common. Tiny screamer (for MONTHS!), sleepless (for YEARS!), knows her own mind… That particular quality will serve them both well someday. That’s what I keep telling myself, anyway. ๐
I love this post. I love the quote you used at the beginning. I love that you listened. I’m listening more and more.
xo
Looks like we might have the same “Google It” obsession. ๐
How awesome for you to teach yoga to the youngsters….it will be a lesson in so much more than flexibility. ๐
Awesome! And don’t despair the impact you can make in a class of one — although I imagine Tornado will corral a bunch of little ogis for you. xxoxx
I hate it when the universe shouts…
LOVE this. You’ll be so good at it.
Cooooool! Way to listen up… finally. ๐ I like the idea of Toga. Need more info on that too!
That phrase you used is modified from the “Rules of Life.”

THANK YOU!!!
๐
LOVE this post & the weaving of the tail of Tornado, MizFit & yoga!!!! Just love that first quote too!!!
Honestly, I do thing the universe is yelling something but my head is such a jumble of work & money stress, not sure I hear what it is saying! I have always had trouble with this & the leaping – scared due to past mistakes.. but as I say – always learning…
I can’t wait to hear more! I love that Tornado helped you listen… ๐
I love your candid opening-up about you and the little tornado. While I still have huge apprehensions about having my own little hurricane…I’d love to adopt but have NO idea where to start and hubs and I are saving $$…it reminds me that I have that ability to instill those positive, fit values in another little adorable soul. Ah, One day…maybe ๐ xo
Love you guys! “If you build it, they will come” makes me think of you. I’ve never known of someone so amazingly capabale of finding a need and filling it. You guys rock.
Love it! ๐ I love how you two balance each other! ๐
So excited for you and the Tornado! What a great mother-daughter adventure!
I’m soo excited for you! What an amazing opportunity. Way to make your dreams come true!
Methinks I know what one thing the Tornado will be when she grows up! Well, she’s a little yogi already… but she’ll be leading others in doing it.
How wonderful and exciting! Wishing you and your helper the best in your venture, what a unique way to bond!
That sounds like an all-out HOLLER from the universe! Love the stories and the pics woven through this post… the very first pic is utterly priceless… that little face!!! ๐
I love the quote that you have on the top of the blog. Very right way to think.
Oh my, I can relate to the poor sleeper of a toddler. ๐ I love this post- you’re so right about those whispers, and things fall into place when we listen and follow through. I’m excited to see what will come of this for you!!
In fact Oprah just said that quote today on OWN radio. She said, a whisper, then ____, then a brick upside the head, then she said the brick wall comes falling down. I’m still getting hit upside the head. But have closer in the last 6 months to listening for the whisper and following than I have in a long time. Still trying to find out its message. But as for recent challenges, its going to involve Yoga too. I think.
Kudos to you.
I’m so excited for you and all the little lovies that are going to flock to your class!!! You’re right. I have a tendency to ignore messages until they are the only options I have! Like pin me down with it!!
I’m so incredibly excited about this. It does sound like a giant holler from the universe. It was meant to be. Can’t wait to hear about it all. Those pictures of the Tornado are priceless!
I love that you’re installing healthy habits in your daughter at such a young age! My mom tried to do that to my siblings and I and while we were very active when we were little, we didn’t realize the benefits until our late teens!
THis is so great…I have no doubt the two of you will get it off the ground.
With your strength, wisdom, and gift of intuition, how could you NOT teach yoga? So excited for you!
Sounds like so much fun!
Isn’t it funny how hard we try to ignore what the universe is telling us sometimes?!
I’m glad you have a little Tornado of a voice that was willing to keep shouting until you couldn’t miss the message!
so so wonderful! i know i try to escape what the universe shouts sometimes…but inevitably i listen. i’m so excited for you and all those who come to your class!
Good luck Carla!!!! That is awesome ๐
These are awesome yoga poses. ๐ I really hope more parents instill the importance of health to their kids.
Lately, I made a shout out to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. And the good thing is that I am getting the help that I need from people around me. Can’t wait to see results from my efforts.
Have a great day!
Awesome venture you are venturing on! I just love how you’ve raised the Tornado! I aspire to be a mama like you are!
As for the Universe…it screams at me. And I hear it, but I don’t know where to start, how to start, and am scared sh*tless to start. I let fear and limited resources hold me back. I’m working on it and this post really helped me to start working a bit harder.
Not too many leaps around here — i might land on a kitten!LOL
LOVE this post. How exciting for you two! I must say– you have a pretty cool kid. My “tornado” – Kenzer is pretty stinkin rad, but yours is right there with her!
That is awesome! Gook luck!
The Universe screams at me all the time, and I only listen when it becomes visibly apparent that I have no other choice. I be stubborn, yo. How awesome is your daughter? ๐
ack! YOu get so many comments I hate to bug you with another! Alas, I had to share. When the Captain was wee little, he went to mommy and me yoga with me.
and proceeded to pass gas throughout the whole class, every class. We stopped going.
That is so awesome!!! You will make a great yoga teacher!!!!
Sometimes I wait until the universe hits me over the head with a bat…
Quitting my job 8 years ago was definitely a leap of faith – faith that we could make it financially, faith that I could be a good stay at home mom, faith that I’d find a new path…
You’ll be a great yoga teacher.
AH I want to leap with confidence and know that the universe will give me those resources to be strong, move forward, and conquer those fears. I’m believing in myself and the universe that this will happen, because She Rocks is taking some big steps in 2 months and it’s time to GO FOR IT. XOXO
Sounds amazing! Sometimes we need a few messages before we realize what path we should be on.
Glad that you’re listening…
Love this. It seems to be a perfect fit. Not sure what the universe is trying to tell me with this knee thing… but I’ll think on it. Maybe how lucky I am that I can train the way I do.
^^ so great and so awesome
This is the sweetest.. it feels like a book to me, with pictures and photos of course.. it’s a beautiful story of a gorgeous relationship and I can’t wait to watch it unfold into the next chapter. You are both such natural born teachers.. Love to you.. Lisa
Looking at those pics I think the universe is trying to tell me I need to take up yoga ๐ Love those poses
SOOOO excited for you! And SOOOOO wish I could go to a class that you teach! Yoga is the BEST!
Sometimes I can’t decide if it’s the universe talking or my own voice. Sometimes I wonder if they’re the same thing.
Miz, this is exactly what happened to me, I got my license to teach last november, I mentioned it to a friend and just like that I had a class starting in January. It was unreal.
It will happen for you too, I know it.
That is awesome, I hope you and the Tornado ๐ have an amazing and blessed adventure!
I need to start listening to the universe more.
I keep saying I’d love to try yoga again… not sure what excuse I’m using NOT to do it.
Teaching yoga – to whoever is willing to learn – sounds like a fabulous idea!
And… how flexible is Miss Tornado?! Wow!
Interesting concept of Toga. It is said that toddlers manage to do their own set of yoga without learning from anyone.
Yoga is a wonderful exercise and help you keep a balance between your mind, body and soul. The ideal time for Yoga is early in the morning. I really appreciate the way you are sharing such inspiring pictures of you and your child. Its constructive exercise and let you feel relaxed.
I love the idea of teaching yoga to children. Such a perfect fit for you. In spite of my shoddy attempts at sticking with my yoga practice, the universe is whispering that I stay with it, and possibly do teacher training.
Great information. MizFit, What motivated you to call this blog “OM yoga teacher training!”, not that the title does not go with the content, I am just wondering. Thank you for the article MizFit.
I am such a dork, but I was so upset about missing your move that I have gone back in your archives to read about it. LOL. Anyway….i love this! I started doing yoga VERY recently when I attended a pilates class and realized how much work my core needed. I know pilates is not yoga, but I kind of make them sort of equal in my mind (they remind me of eachother). Anyway, roni kept posting yoga pics and I remember another blogger talking about yogadownload.com so I downloaded the app. My kids (5 and 7) and I do it nightly. It is sooo nice. :o) And I love creating this ritual with them.
Beautiful post Carla. Awesome. Me thinks that “the student” learns very quickly and can soon become “the teacher”. You look lovely together. Very happy for you ๐
This is fantastic so great for children to be involved at a young age. LOVE this post
Yoga keeps me fit and well satisfied. It’s more than a physical exercise, as it can also help me to reduce stress and overcome my health issues. I enjoy doing Yoga in the morning and evening, as there is no hard and fast rule to perform this exercise at a specific time of the day.
Lovely photos how great to share this with your daughter, this is very special for you I am sure. Thank you for sharing the photos
Hello! I could have sworn I’ve been to this website before but after reading through some of the post I realized it’s new to
me. Anyhow, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll be bookmarking and checking back frequently!
